Updating with no physical knobs/buttons - MTCB Android Head Units General

How do I update my head unit to Malaysk's updates when i have no physical knobs/buttons? My previous head unit was easy using the power knob. Please excuse my lack of knowledge. Any help appreciated.

I have the same issue with my pumpkin.
You have to reboot into recovery. I have done this with Titanium Backup. there are other tools to.
In Recovery it's possible to navigate with the reset button. I used a paper clip for this.
Short push is "down", long push is "select"

Many thanks

HTC Kaiser Soft Reset Problems

Hi,
I'm fairly new to the world of windows mobile and PDAs'. This website was recommended to me by a friend who has been using these types of phones a lot longer than I have.
Anyway, after buying my first windows mobile, HTC TyTn II, I used this mobile for a couple of months with its original ROM, and after a long conversation with my friend decided to flash the ROM.
It took me awhile to find a ROM I liked, eventually I did, but thats when the problems began to occur.
It is my belief that my soft reset button on the phone is either broken or possibly jammed and thus causing the phone to randomly reset (sometimes continuously sometimes at random points during the day), because of the countless times the soft reset buttin has been used, and i was just wondering whether there was a way to change the registry on my phone, or something similar, to disable my soft reset button.
I have searched the forum and read several long threads about other peoples problems with their phones soft resetting, and none of their problems sound anything like mine, their problems usually involve the phone not starting at all or getting past the OS loading screen, and my phone will do that eventually, it just soft resets at random.
Anyway, thanks anyone in advance for any help you can provide in this area.

What do you mean by soft reset button? Hole by the mini usb on downside of the device or power button on the right side, `cause Kaiser doesn`t have another button for something like that. Anyway, you can try to apply power on off function to another button (I`m not sure about that, search around forum for that), or try something with PsShutXp or XDA Shutdown (they both are free). And, of course, good luck!
The soft reset button is a switch... it's either in the on or off position. If your kaiser is randomly resetting it could be a software, battery or loose connection inside the phone issue. Could also be a bad flash or a dodgy rom. Read the stickies thoroughly and flash back to your original rom. If the reset problem still occurs then check the battery connections, etc. Poke a cocktail stick in the reset area (with battery removed), wiggle it around and see if any dirt/grime comes out.
Last resort is to open up the case using the manufacturers service manual, because getting to the reset area is a right fiddle, and not recommended if you haven't explored the guts and know your way around all the parts pretty well.
It's correct: the random reset may be due to a faulty rom/flashing problem and to a wrong battery contact...
It may be due to unstable software or to thousands of causes...
But what Hixxy1991 is saying may be a cause too...
The reset button is exactly a "button" i.e. a "monostable" switch similar to keyboard keys: it has a active "closed" position (when pressed) and a rest "open" position when unpressed.
Inside the button there is a little spring mechanism that holds the button in the rest position so that it gets closed only when you press it.
Due to the very little size of the button and to the unfrequent usage it was expected for, the spring isn't very strong so the Hixxy1991's supposition it isn't so unlikely...
Due to "phisical" cause, you can try to leave the phone over a soft cloth for a while, so it's away from vibrations, and look if it resets.
If yes, you can guess the problem isn't due to the reset button.
Even, you can check if shaking the phone drives it to reset...
I suppose there isn't any way to disable the reset button via software, as I can guess it's an hardware trap...
I'll check around if I'm wrong...
Stay tuned and, please, conduct both checks I suggested and let me know...
See You, Pino
sometimes this problem is due to a problem in the main board :s , and you won't be sure if this is the problem or not except when you try the solution posted above, one of my friends had this problem and it turned out to be what i told you, hope that flashing the rom would solve the problem getting you away from any hardware matters
thank you all
Thank you all for your advice, I have taken everything that you suggested onboard, however after trying both of ppelleg2003's checks to see if it is the hardware, and it was at this point that my mother, bless her mind so full of wisdom, decided to tell me to stop pissing around and just get in contact with HTC.
I then did exactly as I was told, sent them an email and they have asked me for the devices serial number so that they can see if the device is still under warranty, although i think its all academic now because someone sat on the device the other day and added a huge crack in the screen to my problems, so the device will have to be sent back to HTC for repair.
Once again, thank you all for your help

Sorry to hear about the damage... and it will surely not under warranty :-(
I wish You best luck in future

G1 keyboard acting up

I rooted my g1 yesterday and everything was great. Yesterday every key worked fine until I woke up today, my keys are really goofed up. If anyone has had this happen to them or knows how to fix this I would really appreciate the help.
Heres what the keys do:
my P key presses pq8yt19d
my del key presses JHGL
my enter key presses amncs,x
my right side cap key presses / ~Z{
my back key presses u542i3
Sounds like a hardware problem to be honest. Are you sure your GF/dog/cat/nephew did not spill anything on the phone and/or jump on it?
Wipe and reflash, that should rule out any possibility of software bug but it's not likely.
Good luck.
Absolutely positive have no pets and my kid is 4 months. It sat on my night stand all night. I am currently doing the reflashing I will post my results.
**update**
After wiping and reflashing the keys are still goofed up. Have any other ideas?
i have the exact same issue.. i mean EXACT. my p and delete and all those other keys do the same things yours do. i found this thread by searching pq8yt19d... were you ever able to resolve it?? i have also tried reflashing etc and it has not helped. my phone WAS in my child's mouth today, but i just don't see how the two phones could be wet and have the same exact gibberish... also my kid has slobbered allover the phone many times in the past without this happenning..

Possible hardware problem with g1?

I know it's been said before i've googled it and stuff but when the delete key is hit on my keyboard i get a JHGL and a volume lower key and if i hit the back key on my phone i get a U542i3 input. the phone has NEVER been dropped in water and it just started happening randomly.
is there any solutions i can do myself to open it up and fix it? Im not covered under warranty so that's not an option for me.

You can take it apart and clean it.
But first, I would investigate possible SOFTWARE issues. Wipe it clean and load a new system on it.
Yeah, my friend gave me the phone stock when it had the problem then I wiped it flashed it etc and the problem still occured.
Can you confirm if this worked? I have a similar issue:
I have a similar problem but not as severe. Almost all buttons work ok, just the buttons in the middle of the hw keyboard like y, h, b and space sometimes print other stuff, b sometimes writes a few characters and opens up the search, n sometimes writes some characters with an 'enter' in between etc. and these random outputs are usually the same, ie I get the same stuff by pressing b over n over again. They work fine after some pressing, and I've noticed if I press these keys immediately after pressing something else, they work fine. The problems has persisted through rooting, flashing, radio change, bootloader change etc. Anyone know what this problem is? Is it a hardware issue should I get it checked? The hardware guys here charge so much I have to be sure before I take this to them. Any way I can correct it myself? Any help would be appreciated.

Please let me know.
My torx tools aren't small enough so I haven't bought a pack yet to actually try it yet. Im really interested in fixing this G1 so im not sure yet what to do.

I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem.
On HTC Dream there are several GPIO's involved with scanning the keypad, hardware keys and trackball sensors.
These GPIO's of the SoC (MSM7201A) inside are connected to 4-line ESD circuits to protect the chip, prevent voltage peaks and stuff.
Please have a look at this post or read the whole thread.
I found out that these circuits might be harmed by some electrical effects. As a result some of the GPIO's are shorted and affect the behaviour of your device in a strange way.
It's not sure what exactely causes this short circuit... maybe some peak voltage while using the wall charger or some strange inductive effect.
Maybe these protection circuits are little bit weak concerning electrical specs.
Whatever, as you might see at the date of my posts in that thread, i fighted several weeks to solve this issue and i'm pretty sure it's the same effect that causes your device to go mad.
Regards,
scholbert
I have this exact issue. I can rework/solder very small parts and would be willing to try your fix but I really don't think it can be a hardware issue, one because everyone gets the same gibberish and two because all keys function normally in recovery console. What am i missing?

[Q] Can't enter bootloader anymore!

Hi guys,
today I (again) used Task29 because the phone behaved strange (didn't find certain files anymore....again).
But this time its quite different. After finishing Task29 I wanted to enter the bootloader to flash the rom from my sd-card (\kovsimg.nbh)....but it won't start holding vol-down + power!!!
It does start normally, but hangs (due to no rom) at sony ericsson logo.
I can do hard reset, but as no rom is on the internal mem, it doesn't have any effect.
I need the bootloader, but it simply doesn't react on the key combo!
Has somebody got any idea?
I mean, it can't be bricked as everything else works like it should, right??
I have OliNex 0.72 since last couple of rom-flashes (~6). Been doing this for a while now....but each time successfully.
Please give me some feedback!
Thank you!
greets,
Andicp
the problem maybe on your Volume down hardware botton... try to reassamble the x1 and try to change the volume down hardware.. but you must have skill to soldering the hardware.. if you doesnt have the skill just go to phone service.. to change the volume down hardware...

Thanks for your reply!
But then it would act as if I'd push only the power button, right? And the Vol-Down button worked before that.
It simply doesn't react by using this key combo.
If I press power button alone, it switches on normally.
Any idea how to solve that?? Please help!
After some research it looks like I would need a Jtag box and adapter for the X1 plus any Jtag-Software to get a new bootloader onto the phone. This will be prolly around 250€ all together.
...so I'd say my beloved X1 is finally (after almost 2 years of usage and flashing fun) bricked.
I don't know how this happened but i am facing the truth right now.
Only way to revive it: Does anyone know a repair-shop in/ close to Munich which has the equipment??

Thanks for your reply!
But first linked thread implies that you can enter the os.
Second one uses cam-button instead of vol-down button, but thats not my problem as my vol-down button is working.
But this confirms that my problem really is the bootloader itself.
So, no luck so far.
Thanks for your help anyway!
fastboot not an option? or has SE that not?(download mode ect)
edit: forget that its an x1. and not an x10. sorry my fault

airtriggers

I have a problem with the left airtrigger, it works without my help. And when I press it, it feels like it is pressed in and only after a while is released. I tried to disassemble the phone and switch the plugs, and also flashed the raw firmware, but it did not help. Perhaps there will be advice from knowledgeable people faced with the problem. I clicked on the video once, and he continued to press further
