My turbo has a newly unlocked bootloader, thanks to beaups and jcase. I have TWRP installed and I'm ready to flash some ROMs, but TWRPs USB-OTG won't functions.
Has anyone used it yet that can help me?
I was just going to ask about otg ( for different reasons) I have a sandisk 64 gb flash drive (formated exFat) my phone sees it but won't open or format it. Any thoughts?

I had no issues with a 32gb sd card with otg adaptor formatted fat32. Read and write very fast, twrp recognized everything.
USB-OTG /dev/block/sda1 already exist.

Check second post of TWRP thread there is a help we use it for months all the bug are resolved.... Today TWRP only access FAT32 drivers not a bug, to access other format like NTFS generates a bug that make the device not boot at all..

A little leg work is required.
FIRST, NANDROID BACKUP
Second you'll need to format and partition your external sdcard as follows.
Four partitions:
First partition is for normal use formatted to FAT32
THESE PARTITIONS SHOULD BE FORMATTED TO WHATEVER KERNEL YOU PLAN ON USING. FOR EXAMPLE IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE FAUX 1.45 EXT4, FORMAT THE FOLLOWING PARTITIONS AS EXT4. IF YOUR NOT GOING TO USE EXT4 KERNEL FORMAT THE FOLLOWING PARTITIONS AS EXT3! If you're using windows download mini partition tool and set all partitions as primary, not logical and label them appropriately!
Second partition is for /system. Should be 350 MB
Third partition is for /cache. Should be 750 MB
Fourth partition is for /data. Should be 2.3 GB
Now that you have your sdcard partitioned download terminal emulator and run the following command BEFORE you flash the sd rom.
su
mkdir -p /sdcard/Boot/Phone
mkdir -p /sdcard/Boot/SD
cp /dev/block/mmcblk0p11 /sdcard/Boot/Phone/boot.img

now download smanager from the play store and run the attached script (created by sendust7 and modified by me) as root with argument 1 to boot back into your phone rom (argument 2 from phone rom to boot back to SD). Rename the script to boot-rom.sh. You'll need smanager in your phone rom to reboot back into your sdrom
I did not develop this rom, only modified to boot from external sd card. Report any bugs/requests here.
A huge thanks to Sendust7 without whom I would have never had any clue on how to even get started and to Nottachtrix for the best Atrix GB rom out there.

I´m going crazy over here: I followed everything in the instruction to the letter (although I used mini partition tool) and every time I got the following message at the end of the install:
Installing Kernel
assert failed:
package_extract_file("customize/ramfix/faux/100/kernel/boot.img", "/cache/boot.img)
After reboot I always land on my phone Rom - no chance to get into SD-Rom...
I guess something went wrong with the partioning...
You should really make a guide for windows on how to partition the SD Card.
If youre using mini partition tool on windoze all partitions should be primary, not logical. The boot img extracts to /cache, then mmcblk0p11 (phone boot partition) and then is deleted from cache. Double check your partitions on sdcard and make sure there all primary

Yes, but since I'm really noobish in the Dual-Boot-business, I also made another mistake: I didn't know that you actually have to name the partitions. After doing that and using gparted, it worked... Kind of... Had a boot loop on first try (faux 1GHz kernel), flashed again and used stock D 00 kernel.
I need further testing

1.ROOT your phone and backup your external SD card!
2.Download the .ZIP file(here or here) and extract
3.Connect your phone to PC and run runme.bat
4.When asked for ROOT in your phone, choose YES, it will be done in a few secs(if something wrong shows up like "tar invalid tar magic“, try with another Busybox because the latest version messup with Tar file sometimes) and then phone will reboot
5.After reboot, disconnect your phone, go to settings->Xperia->Connectivity> USB Connection Mode, choose MSC and reconnect your phone to PC

You can format the MicroSD card externally. I did it and it went just fine. This means that you can skip the 'switch to msc mode' step and the switching back.

Hello, today I booted up my phone and BOOM! Encryption error. So I flashed a stock rom via ODIN with no luck. Download mode and recovery both work, but I can't mount /data and internal sd card. I read somewhere online that I need a PIT file to restore the partitions. Is this true? Can someone upload the GS3 LTE pit file for me?
Thanks!
i'm on strong indication it seems u've attacked by emmc mbc encryptor malware (/Seftad). Its main goal attack is to encrypt ur master boot record of ur internal phone storage where the bootloader chip in so ur phone cant even entering to bootloader to makes it boot.
did u have a proper mobile security app/antivirus/malware installed? I'm using avast n I'm ok.
imo all u have to do is to gain full wipe & format (if possible) from recovery then go to download mode to flash stock rom by odin with repartition/PIT checked.
Grab i9305 PIT file here

Hi, can you explain in more details how you repartitioned the external SD? I do not understand what you did.
Tks.
I've found that Zenfone 2 has native support for NTFS and even support write! It has kernel module and even tools to check and format for NTFS.
But strangely, NTFS support is blocked in vold (auto-mounting service). I've made patch to allow NTFS volume mounting. This patch is not 100% safe because it doesn't check NTFS volume before mounting. So, it checks for exFAT (and mount if succeed) then check for FAT/FAT32 (and mount if succeed), and then blindly tries to mount NTFS (it will refuse to mount if it's not NTFS but won't detect errors if they exist on disk).
how to install:
1) You need root.
2) unpack attached archive and replace /system/bin/vold
3) set permissions 755 (rwxr-xr-x): chmod 755 /system/bin/vold
4) reboot
Patched vold is compatible with Zenfone 2 (ZE551ML, ZE550ML), Zenfone 5 (BETA Lollipop FW) and probably other Zenfone versions.

Main purpose of OTG is support for so called "USB sticks". HD drive will require additional non-portable external power and may be special Y-cable which will prevent drawing power from phone (and use external power). So, this will be the main problem of using HDD (Not sure about power consumption of 1TB flash drive and if phone can power it). You have to be careful. Don't overload USB power provided by phone. If phone has not enough overload protection, you can damage USB port.
As for disk size, it shouldn't be a problem because it's handles by Linux kernel.

Yes.
I won't be at home till end of June, so i won't be able to test NTFS usb drive, but exFAT usb and internal SD card mounted without problem.
may be restorecon command execution required after vold replacement (to restore selinux attributes). Depend on how you replace it.
Mine works fine with OTG cable on a Lexar 64GB USB stick unpowered, no issues. You do need a "Y" OTG cable to run an external drive though, they are cheap on eBay. No need to root your phone to do this.

sorg there is a mistake in ur instructions
ur instruction made the sd unusable..[but pendrives, internal works and ntfs works]
we need to change owner and se context
to have sd card working
SE cntext shuld point the vold.exec
and owner should be root and group should be shell
and there is an issue by this..vold is hidden opr moved from bin..
but everything now works, SD,pendrives with ntfs

Is it just a matter of changing the owner/group or did you edit the vold itself? If so, can you upload it somewhere so I can grab it? I share my pendrive(s) between a few different devices and the only file format that works on all of them is NTFS.

Just read my post you quoted. I've already told, you need to restore SELinux attributes using restorecon utility.
This modified vold is a part of other modifications together wuth SuperSU and Xposed i'm using to create pre-modified system.img where all generic and SELinux attributes are applied at building stage.

Since we don't have an SD card slot, I am guessing a lot of folks are using OTG arrangements.
Anyone using an OTG drive with their phone for backing it up and shuttling media files back and forth?
My main need is for an external destination for backups, but I would also like to store a bunch of music for swapping off and on the phone.
I have an older small (16GB) OTG drive that I used successfully on my S4 and G2 and G3, but the Nexus does not seem to want to show the drive when I attach it.
Is there a trick to making it work or is there some hidden setting in Titanium Backup to make it visible as a destination? Is there a "best" file manager to do this?
I am rooted with TWRP and running stock MMB29V.
Thanks in advance for any guidance!
Update: I installed Stick Mount and it mounted my SP OTG drive and I was able to browse it, etc.
Once I did that, Ti BU could actually see it as a destination and I am happily backing up to my (older, smallish) drive.
Now, what bothers me is the dang drive is hot as hell and that can't be good!
Anyone familiar? I only have the one OTG drive so can't see if it is the drive or the phone.
Thanks again.

Thanks for reply.
As I said in first post "running stock MMB29V"
All stock Marshmallow, except rooted and TWRP installed.
Kernel is what came with that I guess: 3.10.40

I do use OTG drives to back up my stuff. I use a 1 TB Western Digital My Passport Ultra to back up with. I prefer to use an OTG cable with a power slot so it can use pretty much any storage medium. I can't use it now because I keep getting Error 255 when it executes createTarfork. Wish somebody would help me with that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/twrp-error-255-t3357541
