Mine first started when I flashed custom firmware on my Sony PSP back in '09 (I think I really don't remember at this point) ever since I've never been satisfied by the OEM os's on phones and what not and I've always wanted more. The first phone I flashed was my Samsung Galaxy s3, that was the phone that really got me into flashing. Obviously Samsung bloat was the reason I flashed cyamogemod over it but it didn't stop there. I flashed firmware after firmware. Omnirom, justarchi, paranoid Android, PAC rom and so on. I being the flash noob I was never backed up my efs folder and boom it got corrupted. A bunch of patches later I got it back up only to start again and lose it again the backup didn't seem to help (well that was for nothing). Fast forward to 2015 jan where I got a one plus one and boy oh boy was I happy to have a cyanogen run device. Of course you have to have root right? And a custom recovery (of course) and oh look this rom looks pretty good legs try it. And that one and that one, yeah I'm a flashaholic currently running omnirom 6.0 probably going to switch again soon because I can't stop myself any more be it roms, kernels or recoveries.
Go ahead and share your flashaholic stories down below

I love playing around with my Note N700 and trying every rom, but I have become a little worried of late with bricking it. So am I right to think (after reading things said all over these forums) that no rom based on either ICS 4 is safe from bricking?
Also is it true that even if you do it right and have the one rom on it and it runs well your phone can still brick at any time?

The only safe ICS Roms at the moment are:
1. official CM9
2. Asylum
3. Paranoid
4. MIUI
All other ICS Roms contain LP1, LP5, LP6, LPY or LPF kernels, which are known to be able
to brick phones after doing a wipe/format/flash from CWMR.
So, does that mean if you:
Are like me, never flashed anything other than kies rom updates,
Never used CWM, never wiped, never modded the rom.
Updated to ICS using Kies, then used the cwm method to root
the rom....and I've never wiped after the update, or anything else...
Phone runs fine, NO issues, then I'm "safe"?
I appreciate the cooks for doing what they do, but I pretty much stick
with release roms from the manufacturer. My days of spending all evening
tweaking the computer to get .5% better performance along with modding
build.prop files etc are over. My computer & phones are just "toaster ovens".
I turn them on and use them LOL. At the end of the work day, I"m just too
tired to screw with it.

You should be safe, yes.
Some people use phone less but flash ROMS more lol
Is it some sort of addiction ? you root your phone and then dont stick with one custom ROM and keep flashing one after others just for sake of it or for testing..so you spend more time in rebooting, resetting, formatting and testing ROMs than actually using your phone . you get new version of ROMS/KERNEL after every week and you tempted to flash new version of ROMS which dont let you stick with one for a while
what you say?
rajaasim its so true even when i do something stupid i just keep flashing cant help myself and im a total noob haahahaha

haha i am also noob
I think good thing about noob is that at least they are happy and satisfied with what they have got( i.e stock ROM) unlike us who just flash every now and then and keep playing with their phones by changing kernels/modem/Mod/Roms/inverted apps etc etc
I dont think we ever satisfied as asking for more and more
It all started with my one and only i9003 (still alive) till current with 6 devices (3 from Nexus range, 2 from Sammy, 1 from Amazon Kindle).. And I'm still flashing them..
When have great HTC HD2 i flash muuuuuuuuuuch roms ;D I have all android versions, Windows Phone (what a crap). Now i have SGS+ and F kin CWM recovery bricked my /data so cant use phone ... Waiting and trying new fixes, ehhh i should stay on CWM 5.5.0.4
Oh boy I really hope I am just too tired to look and info I've got so far is incorrect. My i337 Got stolen today and I managed to get Galaxy S 4 Active from ATT i537. I looked up only 1 thing before I did because only system I can use is CM11, I mean stock Samsung makes me uneasy if I am on it for more then 15 seconds. Sounds, UI, just feel and look, totally garbage. So now I see that bootloader is locked AND there is no solution to unlock it. Only then we can install some kind of Dual boot thing ? I really hope this is not true. Can I just get rid of everything Samsung and stock and get CM11 ? I don't want to waste space with stock as "not used" system.
Please let me know because like I said I had really bad day with two thugs stealing my phone, spend money on new one and now this. I just rooted it and was thinking like always I get Rom Manager and from there I install recovery ..... but phone is not listed .... I am freaking out a bit right about now. Please let me know if possible on where to start getting custom recovery cause ODIN + tar recovery files gave me magic error or something like that just now.
Thank you guys !
UPDATE: Couldn't sleep.
So I have my new phone rooted with "towel", I install Safestrap and backed up my current ROM (I am on NE3) I see now reason why this dual system needed and stuff. I mean too bad Samsung locking bootloaders and oh well. I have only 2 questions. 1 can I just install latest build from https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=jactivelte in to rom SLOT-1 and use it or no. And how much space I can allow for my current ROM and CM I mean I am not planning to have anything on stock so I don't need space at same time I cant make it that when I do want to go on stock I'd have a problem with running it because of not enough space.
Thank you guys once again. I mean If you know few lines ..that's all I am asking. Cause I do see some pros and cons but .. I need straight up answer. Thanks !

You cannot install CM. Since you have a locked bootloader, it is not possible to install any custom kernels, so ROMs that require a custom kernel (CM, AOSP, or any ROM based off those) will not work. Using SafeStrap you can flash TouchWiz-based ROMs since they can use you stock kernel.
Look in the AT&T S4 forums for ROMs that say they are compatible with SafeStrap, you should be able to use most of those. Since they are meant fir a different phone you'll have to flash the MasterPatch afterwards. A lot of people seen to like the Hyperdrive ROM.

Got it. Thanks. I remember back in a day I've been using "theme" that allowed me to have Google stock feel u guess I need to look in this but for now I guess I'll just remove what I can and will suffer until Nexus 6 is in stock and I can afford it. Love that phone. Also I see 5.0 will be out for active next year so it's not that bad. Meanwhile should I do Ota update to latest stock firmware ?

If you want, you can still root the latest firmware so you have nothing to lose.
I tried both CandySeven (7.0) and Resurrection Remix on my m7, and I can receive sms just fine, but I cannot send it. Is there a fix for this or should I try a different rom?
I wish I had an answer. As far as I've seen, every Marshmallow and up ROM has the SMS issue. My guess is that once that's fixed for one, the others will be able to follow suit.
Ugh, that's really unfortunate. I could go back to stock but it is quite slow. I've got an iPhone coming due to this whole Note 7 situation (wouldn't be dealing with this m7 if it weren't for that), but it's not going to be here for a few weeks. Guess I'll just deal with this issue until then. Not so sure I want to switch back to iOS but for me it's either that or a v20... I don't really trust LG and I didn't want another Samsung phone. Really frustrated with my phone situation overall right now.

If you don't mind running Lollipop, this ROM is a really fast, stable custom ROM that I run as my daily. Everything works on it, but it is a little tricky to flash (hint: fastboot flash the boot image after flashing the ROM).

Actually I'm about to flash this, thanks. I'll let you know how it goes.
I bought my first phone when i was 16, i worked my ass off during summer for it. And after 2 weeks i decided to flash the custom rom, i remember my hands were shaking and sweating because i knew there is possibility of completly bricking it (not to mention how back in the days, flashing custom roms was like defusing a bomb, old school flashocolics will know )
It all went good at the end, unfortunately my phone fell in the water 2 days after flashing, and i could only use it as a paper weight
what was your experience like?
I too bought my first android phone when I was 16. It was a Samsung galaxy young S6310. After tinkering with it for a month I got bored. I tried more than 500 apps in that period. Some of those apps required "Root access" to work. I didn't know what it was at that time. When trying to learn about root, Google introduced me to the term "custom ROM" even though I didn't really understand how to get or install one. I rooted the phone with framaroot. That was the easy part. I messed up a lot of things with my unlimited power and had flash stock firmware using Odin several times. Then I learned about cwm recovery and it's nandroid backup feature. This was the point at which I understood how to install a custom ROM. I found a cyanogenmod based custom ROM for my phone. But it was worse than original ROM (my phone didn't have any actual development going on). It was too slow and crashed always. I switched back to Samsung's ROM never tried anything else ever on my galaxy young.
My first experience was with my mom's phone , when I was 13. I installed CM for her after the stock firmware turned out to be extremely buggy and almost unusable with constant freezing... It was scary af, but fun nonetheless. Unfortunately she gave away the phone , after even CM couldnt fix the issue. Turned out to be faulty DRAM .
After that, my second experience was with my Xperia Z3 Compact , which I got when I was 15 It was fun and we finally got actual custom ROMs (Like Lineage and other stuff) this March. Until then I was using SliMM and other roms that were based on the stock rom with some extra features (We did have custom roms, but the camera wasnt working, or unusable in them)
My first android which I rooted/(flashed custom ROM on) was a Micromax, running an MTK processor. Idk why I had the habit of replacing the CWM Recovery with stock recovery after flashing the ported ROMs :stupid:
Well i am a HUGE fan of AOSP, cyanogenmod in general, but samsung is a stupid *****, because of them we xan't have camera as good as on stock camera yo be on cyanogenmod rom, that is why i am on boring touchwiz
I mean yes cyanogenmod is awesome, but camera is one thing that i was looking up when buying a phone...
My first phone was Samsung galaxy star pro GT-S7262 and it was slow as hell so I decided to flash cm or aosp to improve its performance. Unfortunately there were no cm or aosp roms for the device at that time, just one themed lollipop rom. I was so scared while flashing mainly because it wasn't an official rom plus the device was slow so I thought I'd brick it. And just when I was getting comfortable, the dev jokingly decided to add a line at the end of the updater-script " BRICKING YOUR DEVICE" I was complete noob so I thought I did something wrong and almost dropped my phone. but it turned out to be a fast and stable rom and to this day I still have it installed (though I don't use the device anymore)
