Kindle Fire 7 5th Gen - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys. I've tried rooting my new Kindle Fire 7 5th Gen but the furthest I get is to the fastboot screen "waiting for device" and nothing else happens. I have downloaded and installed the device utilizes and the kindle's serial is recognized by the root program. Any ideas on what I may be missing or what may be causing the issue?
P.S I was able to install the Google Play Store using a similar program no problem. And everything seems to be working fine with that.

How are you trying to root? Which method? Filename of root method? Did you watch the video?

I used the method used by Root Junky in his YouTube video.

i too was able to install google play and remove adds
did you happen to get a fix?

No. Still searching for one. I've heard something about a twrp boot but its a more complicated process and I don't want to risk bricking my device unless I get a tutorial that breaks it down simply. I guess I'll just be waiting for another method if one comes along.

It's pretty safe, bootloader is locked, which means critical partitions are protected (bootloader, recovery...)
I have also posted some unbrick instructions here
Unbrick/Restore Stock 2015 Amazon Fire (KFFOWI/Ford) with custom recovery

Me Too... Check this...
I'm having the same problems... Check your device manager, when device boots to "fastboot" scren, are you getting a Yellow "Other Devices" with "Android" in it? instead of the ADB Composite under "Android Devices" the video says to look for?
I think I figured out the problem... Now just still looking for a solution.
Edited 30 min later:
I think I found it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/howto-install-drivers-adb-fastboot-mode-t3236187
You need to force it to use the drivers that have already been installed, just didn't get applied correctly for some reason.
Let us know if this helped... or not

its saying "fire" under portable devices and there is no "android devices" listed in device manager for some reason only "other devices" in which the tablet is not displaying at all
i tried the update driver software but when i point to to what the instructions tell me to windows shows an error saying there is no files compatible with my device? so im stuck

There is a stumbling block which isn't mentioned in the videos. You will need to install the driver via
Device manager
-
Browse my computer for driver software
-
let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
-
All
-
Have disk
At this stage point to the folder containing the driver you downloaded.
As you go through the process of rooting etc you will come to a point where it says "Fast boot" on the tablet and "Press any key to continue" on your pc, this is where the process stops dead, you need go through the driver process again while everything is still plugged in and running, you will see the device name is different this time plus it uses a different driver this time.
Everything else is as the video shows.

Just so you know, all mentions of that particular app are not allowed at xda. It's considered piracy, warez, what have you.

I didn't know. I'll remove it if I get confirmation.

I have seen a whole discussion on lucky patcher quite some time ago that was never removed. It focused more on how it works, how to protect against it.
I do not believe simply mentioning the name lucky patcher is banned. It is recommending it for piracy that is not permitted. TheKhrish made zero mention of what she used LP for. People who were previously unfamiliar would not have even known it could be used for piracy.

I want to downgrade my nexus because i let my little sister play with it (big mistake) i had it rooted on 2.2.2 (superoneclick) and now im on gingerbread! i cant downgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.2 it just gives me an error could i try to use the passimg.zip and try to flash 2.2 that way to reroot it?
EDIT:just tried the passimg.zip it said main version older any suggestions?
Read the forum, I'm sure there is a downgrade thread within the last 2 pages.
I don't think there's a fix for the "main version is older" problem, unless you unlock the bootloader...

Setting up the sdk is basically installing the drivers, and making sure you have the necessary files (adb, fastboot, su, or whatever)

Wugfresh's toolkit works fine, and is a perfectly good choice for those new to Android who don't want to take the chance they'll mistype something in the command line.
This happened to me using the toolkit as well, I think the problem lies with the USB drivers, which can get confused or lose sync. Just power off your Nexus and try the procedure again from the start. Make sure you plug it into one of the USB ports on the back of your motherboard rather than going through a hub.

Now that Asus has posted official USB drivers you may want to uninstall the ones provided by the toolkit and use those instead.

Try this first
Try downloading supersu or superuser from the market, along with an app whih requires root permissions, such as titanium backup. After installing supersu, try running titanium backup, hopefully it will give you the prompt to grant permissions, and then you wont have to reroot.

[Q] "No OS installed!" Can't get past bootloader or recovery! Urgent Help!

I'm an amateur ROM flasher and I usually get around a problem after a few hours of messing around with the device and forums but I am absolutely stumped by this one. After unsuccessfully trying to flash a few roms, I decided to restore my phone back to what it was because I backed it up only a few hours before. All it would load is a black screen with the status bar showing the time and no signal, sometimes allowing me to slide to unlock to my saved launcher with still a black background. Not only would it never get reception, it would reboot within two minutes. This cycled until the battery would die. I ended up deleting everything on the device itself in attempt to fix something, not thinking I would delete my back ups and then my ability to ever get my phone past bootloader or recovery. I can still do fastboot commands and change the recovery, but besides that, it's a brick. Any kind of help would mean the world, thanks!

It's not a brick until nothing lights up our charges. And since there is no sd slot, that's out. You have access to recovery, you're fine. Download a stable Rom and just like fastboot, do an adb push of the Rom like suggested above. Wipe data, caches, and format system before flashing. No worries. All its not lost.

Any of those adb commands results only with "error: device not found"
This may not be a fix for HTC phones, but on Samsung devices, I've had to uninstall and reinstall drivers several times. Do and uninstall, run a registry cleaner, reboot pc, reinstall drivers, reboot, and try adb again. I used to do that every so often with my Samsung devices that wouldn't be properly detected by my pc. It usually fixed my problem.

No offense meant, but that information really needs to be in the first post. It could have made things significantly easier. We also really need to know what ROMs you were trying, because the problems you'r edescribing vaguely sound like you've flashed a GSM ROM somewhere along the line by accident, in which case you will need to RUU (and most of the guides are unfortunately pretty Windows-centric).

No offense taken. Unfortunately, a Mac is all I'm able to use at the moment. I'm trying to run CleanRom from the sprint htc one development section of this site, so I'm fairly certain it should work. My main problem right now is that using adb commands my phone is not recognized. Using fastboot, though, works absolutely fine to do whatever I need and recognizes my device. I've tried using twrp and clockworkmod recovery touch to sideload any zip file and just won't work. All it says after trying that is "failed to open driver control: no such file or directory".
Please do tell me if any other information would help you help me faster. I don't frequent forums so I'd imagine I'm quite frustrating to work with.
Anybody have any idea?

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T769 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I prefer this method for installing twrp, just make sure to check the box about downgrading the boot loader, because I'm not sure if when you said you downgraded if you ment the os or the bootloader, and if you haven't done that first you will get stuck with a red screen on reboot you can't fix without a fastboot cable. Make sure to stick a copy of the ROM you want to use and the gapps for it on the sdcard ahead of time though because it typically bootloops after you install twrp but it might not I don't remember which version implemented the stupid version check that causes that.

You can use this tool to restore http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
Did you make a backup before attempting the mod? If you did, just push the files/images onto your KFHD7.
You will need a matching Amazon boot.img and system.img I would do some reading around Hashcodes thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848 He has the images needed. You can probably use the ones in the restore tool as well.
You will need to have SDK downloaded to get ADB/Fastboot commands recognized. Here is a video tutorial of that https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaNM-lt_aHw

Sounds like the drivers aren't installed, go into the device manager and right click what should be a device called something like tate-pvt with a triangle next to it and hit update drivers, download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere, then point the update driver update window to where you extracted my drivers and let them install. Sounds like the drivers aren't installed, go into the device manager and right click what should be a device called something like tate-pvt with a triangle next to it and hit update drivers, download the drivers in my signature and extract them somewhere, then point the update driver update window to where you extracted my drivers and let them install. Make sure you check the md5sum of the boot loader file before flashing it.

Thanks I kept getting the tate-pvt and the yellow triangle but I didn't know what to do or so I just rage quit... I gave a factory cable and just need to fix it so after I update the drivers it'll fix everything as for as drivers and recognizing the device goes?

Yes it should work fine after the drivers are installed.

I tried it on Windows 7 and the Tate-pvt turns to Android Debug something... Basically ADB before I could manually update, like you know when you first plug in a device the computer automatically starts searching for the new drivers and well long story short it makes a noise when I plug it in and the ADB driver can not start....? I'm sooooooo confused... I know I'm probably looking like the biggest noob on xda... Help please, anyone?

[Q] Cannot install ADB driver

When I try to install the Kindle fire ADB driver, at the very end, I get a dialog saying the driver did not install properly, or I need to reboot. I reboot and plug my kindle in, and I see the ADB driver show up in device manager. However, adb devices does not recognize it.
The EXACT same file and installation on a different computer worked perfectly fine. Both are Windows 8.1. Any suggestions to get it working on the other (newer) laptop?
My Nexus 5 is recognized by BOTH laptops via adb by the way.
I think you need to turn off driver signature verification. .

Well, a few things. I don't get an error about the driver signature. 2nd, it installed perfectly fine without any disabling on my other laptop. 3rd, I actually tried that already, it makes no difference - driver installs, I get an error, and ADB doesn't work.
I don't have windows 8 so I'm shooting from the hip. Try using other USB ports. If that doesn't work, you could try the version of adb in my signature and see if that works.

No problem, I appreciate the help. I tried both USB ports already as well (I'm not one of those people who posts on the first failed attempt, I literally tried everything I know). I've also tried the universal ADB drivers, no help.
I'll check out your version of ADB, though I think it's something with the driver and/or installation process. It's just odd that my Nexus 5 connects to ADB fine.

You must disable MS driver security or you will not be able to install the drivers manually which you need to do (at this point. Use Stunts modified drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459498

I had a similar issue with the adb that was included with the binary root. It would never see my device, but the older adb version saw it just fine. I had to replace the adb files in the binary root with the ones from the Kindle fire utility (1st Gen Kindle tool).
