When I try to install the Kindle fire ADB driver, at the very end, I get a dialog saying the driver did not install properly, or I need to reboot. I reboot and plug my kindle in, and I see the ADB driver show up in device manager. However, adb devices does not recognize it.
The EXACT same file and installation on a different computer worked perfectly fine. Both are Windows 8.1. Any suggestions to get it working on the other (newer) laptop?
My Nexus 5 is recognized by BOTH laptops via adb by the way.
I think you need to turn off driver signature verification. .

Well, a few things. I don't get an error about the driver signature. 2nd, it installed perfectly fine without any disabling on my other laptop. 3rd, I actually tried that already, it makes no difference - driver installs, I get an error, and ADB doesn't work.
I don't have windows 8 so I'm shooting from the hip. Try using other USB ports. If that doesn't work, you could try the version of adb in my signature and see if that works.

No problem, I appreciate the help. I tried both USB ports already as well (I'm not one of those people who posts on the first failed attempt, I literally tried everything I know). I've also tried the universal ADB drivers, no help.
I'll check out your version of ADB, though I think it's something with the driver and/or installation process. It's just odd that my Nexus 5 connects to ADB fine.

You must disable MS driver security or you will not be able to install the drivers manually which you need to do (at this point. Use Stunts modified drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459498

I had a similar issue with the adb that was included with the binary root. It would never see my device, but the older adb version saw it just fine. I had to replace the adb files in the binary root with the ones from the Kindle fire utility (1st Gen Kindle tool).

Why in development?
Did you turn on Usb Debugging in your phone settings?
I would generally have better luck recognizing my device when installing drivers on new computers with USB debugging disabled first, then re-enable it. Also with USB connected & drivers installed, go thru all the USB modes available cuz each have different drivers to be recognized (& depending on the root method you're using, the driver may not have been recognized yet, like adb services...)

I apologize if this is in the wrong section. I've never used ADB before, so I'm not sure if this is device-specific. I'm pretty good with Fastboot (for some reason that works just fine) and I've read up on ADB, but I can't use commands because I'm experiencing what I believe is a driver issue.
I am running Windows 7 x64
When I plug my phone in and run a cmd window, I type
adb devices
And it shows blank in the listed devices. So, I tried sending a reboot command and it said
error: device not found
I tried reinstalling my htc drivers, and I can't get the AdbDriverInstaller or pdanet to recognize my device. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

So I just got this last Wednesday. I read through a guide, and watched an instructional video on how to root my device. Everything works fine up until the point where I have to install SuperSU or SuperUser. Now, my friend uses SuperUser so I thought I would go ahead and follow his footsteps with that. I install ViperOne, and it finishes. After the reboot, my device is stuck in a bootloop. I wipe the memory, not thinking, and removed everything. My backpu, ViperOne, everything. I look up some more guides and learn about the abd push ROM.zip /sdcard/ command and try it out but I'm getting device not found. I have an OTG cable coming, but the possibility is there to use adb so until it does come, I'd like to at least attempt.
Current status:
Can only access boot loader and TWRP. ADB is not working. I wouldn't mind running an RUU but the only file I found on it, on top of downloading it twice @ 80kbps, says there's an error and I can't extract it from the .zip archive.
I don't know what more information I should provide, but any advice on how to unbrick this would be greatly appreciated. This is an amazing android, and all I wanted to do was make it better :c
Try reinstalling drivers on your computer. You might have to do some research here to find them though. Good luck.

I did the same thing when I first got the phone. Download the drivers for the one from the htc site, also try installing HTC sync if you haven't already. I'd provide links, but I'm not at a computer right now. Try using another computer if you can. Also, try restarting your phone WHILE it's plugged into your computer, or a different usb port. That helped me get adb working.

Use these drivers, make sure to delete all other drivers. Once installed go to device manager and search for new drivers, then pick these.

Hey guys. I've tried rooting my new Kindle Fire 7 5th Gen but the furthest I get is to the fastboot screen "waiting for device" and nothing else happens. I have downloaded and installed the device utilizes and the kindle's serial is recognized by the root program. Any ideas on what I may be missing or what may be causing the issue?
P.S I was able to install the Google Play Store using a similar program no problem. And everything seems to be working fine with that.

No. Still searching for one. I've heard something about a twrp boot but its a more complicated process and I don't want to risk bricking my device unless I get a tutorial that breaks it down simply. I guess I'll just be waiting for another method if one comes along.

I'm having the same problems... Check your device manager, when device boots to "fastboot" scren, are you getting a Yellow "Other Devices" with "Android" in it? instead of the ADB Composite under "Android Devices" the video says to look for?
I think I figured out the problem... Now just still looking for a solution.
Edited 30 min later:
I think I found it:

You need to force it to use the drivers that have already been installed, just didn't get applied correctly for some reason.
Let us know if this helped... or not

its saying "fire" under portable devices and there is no "android devices" listed in device manager for some reason only "other devices" in which the tablet is not displaying at all
i tried the update driver software but when i point to to what the instructions tell me to windows shows an error saying there is no files compatible with my device? so im stuck
There is a stumbling block which isn't mentioned in the videos. You will need to install the driver via
Device manager
-
Browse my computer for driver software
-
let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
-
All
-
Have disk
At this stage point to the folder containing the driver you downloaded.
As you go through the process of rooting etc you will come to a point where it says "Fast boot" on the tablet and "Press any key to continue" on your pc, this is where the process stops dead, you need go through the driver process again while everything is still plugged in and running, you will see the device name is different this time plus it uses a different driver this time.
Everything else is as the video shows.

Just so you know, all mentions of that particular app are not allowed at xda. It's considered piracy, warez, what have you.
I didn't know. I'll remove it if I get confirmation.

I have seen a whole discussion on lucky patcher quite some time ago that was never removed. It focused more on how it works, how to protect against it.
I do not believe simply mentioning the name lucky patcher is banned. It is recommending it for piracy that is not permitted. TheKhrish made zero mention of what she used LP for. People who were previously unfamiliar would not have even known it could be used for piracy.

Thanks for clarifying Blueberry. I do not intend to use LP illegally. Just as I use Flex for IOS (Apple) I use it as one way of practicing my developer skills while I try to learn. Just as a hobby.
