I want to downgrade my nexus because i let my little sister play with it (big mistake) i had it rooted on 2.2.2 (superoneclick) and now im on gingerbread! i cant downgrade to 2.2 or 2.2.2 it just gives me an error could i try to use the passimg.zip and try to flash 2.2 that way to reroot it?
EDIT:just tried the passimg.zip it said main version older any suggestions?
Read the forum, I'm sure there is a downgrade thread within the last 2 pages.
I don't think there's a fix for the "main version is older" problem, unless you unlock the bootloader...

yes but im going to try with my other win 7 laptop then my winxp netbook tonight maybe then it will work. btw do i have to have the sdk set up?
Setting up the sdk is basically installing the drivers, and making sure you have the necessary files (adb, fastboot, su, or whatever)

Droidmodderx from YouTube will fix you up. It's really simple. Hope you find what you need there.

Why in development?
Did you turn on Usb Debugging in your phone settings?
I would generally have better luck recognizing my device when installing drivers on new computers with USB debugging disabled first, then re-enable it. Also with USB connected & drivers installed, go thru all the USB modes available cuz each have different drivers to be recognized (& depending on the root method you're using, the driver may not have been recognized yet, like adb services...)

I found it was my usb cable. Something defective about it. Tried another and worked like a charm.

I'm a big noob in this community. Well, yesterday I flashed a custom rom and got my captive in a loop. No biggie. I flashed it back to stock and now running elcair 2.1. I've tried hooking it up to lies mini but it seems two drivers fail to install correctly everytime. Downloaded the drivers from Samsung and other places. Contacted Samsung through live chat (never again). Ive tried factory resetting. I also need to mention I can't go into download mode or recovery. I need the 3 button mod but I've read that rom manager doesn't support eclair. Am I screwed and stuck on this firmware?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app
First, forget Rom Manager. It has almost nothing for the Captivate. Second, check out my signature for an ADB Utility to help you get into download/recovery. Also, you may want to completely uninstall the drivers for the captivate, reboot, and then reinstall them again before plugging your phone back in.
ADB utility would help me go into download mode?

If the drivers are working correctly, yes.

My drivers ARENT working correctly. I dont know what seems to b e the problem.
As Red_81 mentioned, if you can't get into download or recovery mode, try using ADB to force it to get there. You can get it with the utility in Red_81's signature. Once you have the phone hooked up and ADB installed, just open a command prompt, navigate to where you have ADB installed, and type "adb reboot download" or "adb reboot recovery".
If the Samsung drivers aren't cutting it for you, you might want to try flashing a stock Gingerbread ROM (with bootloaders) from Heimdall. Heimdall will install its own USB driver (lib-usb), which might bypass your issue.
If you're still having driver issues, take a look at the "Captivate Connection Issues" thread in my signature. At least one of those solutions should (hopefully) work for you.
I used Odin to flash back. Would it be easier if I used a jig?

When I try to install the Kindle fire ADB driver, at the very end, I get a dialog saying the driver did not install properly, or I need to reboot. I reboot and plug my kindle in, and I see the ADB driver show up in device manager. However, adb devices does not recognize it.
The EXACT same file and installation on a different computer worked perfectly fine. Both are Windows 8.1. Any suggestions to get it working on the other (newer) laptop?
My Nexus 5 is recognized by BOTH laptops via adb by the way.
I think you need to turn off driver signature verification. .

Well, a few things. I don't get an error about the driver signature. 2nd, it installed perfectly fine without any disabling on my other laptop. 3rd, I actually tried that already, it makes no difference - driver installs, I get an error, and ADB doesn't work.
I don't have windows 8 so I'm shooting from the hip. Try using other USB ports. If that doesn't work, you could try the version of adb in my signature and see if that works.

No problem, I appreciate the help. I tried both USB ports already as well (I'm not one of those people who posts on the first failed attempt, I literally tried everything I know). I've also tried the universal ADB drivers, no help.
I'll check out your version of ADB, though I think it's something with the driver and/or installation process. It's just odd that my Nexus 5 connects to ADB fine.

You must disable MS driver security or you will not be able to install the drivers manually which you need to do (at this point. Use Stunts modified drivers http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2459498

I had a similar issue with the adb that was included with the binary root. It would never see my device, but the older adb version saw it just fine. I had to replace the adb files in the binary root with the ones from the Kindle fire utility (1st Gen Kindle tool).

Hey guys. I've tried rooting my new Kindle Fire 7 5th Gen but the furthest I get is to the fastboot screen "waiting for device" and nothing else happens. I have downloaded and installed the device utilizes and the kindle's serial is recognized by the root program. Any ideas on what I may be missing or what may be causing the issue?
P.S I was able to install the Google Play Store using a similar program no problem. And everything seems to be working fine with that.

No. Still searching for one. I've heard something about a twrp boot but its a more complicated process and I don't want to risk bricking my device unless I get a tutorial that breaks it down simply. I guess I'll just be waiting for another method if one comes along.

I'm having the same problems... Check your device manager, when device boots to "fastboot" scren, are you getting a Yellow "Other Devices" with "Android" in it? instead of the ADB Composite under "Android Devices" the video says to look for?
I think I figured out the problem... Now just still looking for a solution.
Edited 30 min later:
I think I found it:

You need to force it to use the drivers that have already been installed, just didn't get applied correctly for some reason.

its saying "fire" under portable devices and there is no "android devices" listed in device manager for some reason only "other devices" in which the tablet is not displaying at all
i tried the update driver software but when i point to to what the instructions tell me to windows shows an error saying there is no files compatible with my device? so im stuck
There is a stumbling block which isn't mentioned in the videos. You will need to install the driver via
Device manager
-
Browse my computer for driver software
-
let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
-
All
-
Have disk
At this stage point to the folder containing the driver you downloaded.
As you go through the process of rooting etc you will come to a point where it says "Fast boot" on the tablet and "Press any key to continue" on your pc, this is where the process stops dead, you need go through the driver process again while everything is still plugged in and running, you will see the device name is different this time plus it uses a different driver this time.
Everything else is as the video shows.

Just so you know, all mentions of that particular app are not allowed at xda. It's considered piracy, warez, what have you.
I didn't know. I'll remove it if I get confirmation.

I have seen a whole discussion on lucky patcher quite some time ago that was never removed. It focused more on how it works, how to protect against it.
I do not believe simply mentioning the name lucky patcher is banned. It is recommending it for piracy that is not permitted. TheKhrish made zero mention of what she used LP for. People who were previously unfamiliar would not have even known it could be used for piracy.
