Bluetooth Issue: Sound quality bad after connecting smartwatch - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Been using jaybird bluebud X's on my S6 Edge for a while now, love them for the high audio quality. Then I picked up a Gear 2 Neo, connected it, and noticed my jaybirds were no longer producing the crisp clear sound they used too (highs are crackly and lows are muddy). I rebooted everything a few times, reconnected everything in different order, etc. Nothing really seemed to correct the issue reliably. A few times I got it all hooked up and it sounded good, but I couldn't reproduce it.
If I connect JUST the jaybirds, they sound just as good as ever. But as soon as I connect the watch, the headphones temporarily disconnect, then reconnect (sometimes they need a button push to reconnect), and the audio quality is poop.
Anyone have any ideas? Are there bluetooth settings on the devices that would allow me to force the high quality audio reliably? My assumption is the neo is pulling the audio quality of the jaybirds down since it has such a low quality speaker in it OR a second bluetooth device is stressing the antenna in the phone forcing it to not transmit at a high quality rate, but those are just my generally uneducated guesses.

+1 on this. I have the same issue with a Neo 2. It happens with all bluetooth audio devices. My car bluetooth is choppy just transmitting voice. So much so that I can no longer talk hands free. I have Android wear on the watch now, but I also had the same issue with Tizen if I remember correctly. I may need to go back to Tizen to test.

Interesting. I've never had this happen to me. I have sometimes had issues connecting to other Bluetooth devices when I have my Gear 2 Neo connected, but never bad sound quality.

I also had the same issue with Tizen. I was hoping going native android MIGHT fix it (i didn't have high hopes) but it didn't really impact this issue at all.
How are more people not talking about this though? Can people really just not tell the difference of the audio?

Not everyone has a android wear watch. I am noticing the same thing too. My audio will cut in and out through all songs and this only happens when my phone screen is off and I have both my Wear and headphones connected over bluetooth.
I'm wondering if the minimum CPU state isn't enough to push the audio and wear info. (I have V4A installed as well, and wondering if this is eating up cpu)

I can deal with the cutting in and out, that only happens to me when I connect/disconnect one of the two manually.
But this seems to impact the audio quality specifically, which is driving me nuts. The other day it was I a state where I actually heard the quality dip down for about 20s then back up. The highs get crackly and the mid get muddy.
This watch is about to be shelved so I can utilize my ear buds.

Does Diamond Bluetooth suck or is it my HF?

I recently got a Jabra BT3030 for use as a HF and possibly music player. The only other choice in the shop was the SE DS200, so I thought meh the Jabra is a little cheaper and probably as good.
The HF works just fine: simple connection, buttons all work and people can hear me talking just fine. The only issue being the quirky music/volume after turning it off, but its no big deal.
What's wrong is the HORRIBLE, ABYSMAL, DOWNRIGHT UGLY sound output. There is a constant hissing in the background, its like a slightly offset radio station. I may not be an audiophile but every test/review I've read of this including user impressions say that the quality is "good", some even claim its "like wired earbuds". I dont call this good at all and its as far away from wired it can be.
However I've been unable to test it in another BT phone (wont work on my old SE K600i) as my main suspect is the phone, not the Jabra.
Unless of course, BT handsfree on the Diamond is meant to hiss? Or is the Jabra actually this bad quality? Anyone know that's used far more BT than me, as the Jabra is.. well, the only one?
I own a Anycom BH-100 and it shows constant hissing as soon as connected to any device (PC USB dongle, HTC Magician / Hermes / Diamond).
Good thing is, when the music plays it's nearly gone ( = can't hear it anymore).
Hm, I suppose it bluetooth really is that bad. It hisses when I try to connect to my HP portable too.
My BT-headset gives a rather friendly quality. No hissing whatsoever, but it does have a little second of lag very occasionally. Much better than my old Nokia 6300, in any case.
So you wanna tell us, that you don't experience any difference between your headset being switched totally off and being on but no actual music playing?
3030 user here.I'd described the hissing present but not so much bothering. Not that I have much BT HF experience before, used entry level Jabra BT135 with N6120c. There I'd say was little bit of less hissing.

Well lag/slight stuttering I would understand since it is wireless, but this is a constant background hiss independant of any lag.

The Diamond is not at fault at all. Its the Jabra that STINKS.
I tested a DS200 here at work at its got nothing of the hiss on the 3030. On the 3030, I clearly hear when its activated (*ELECTRONIC CLICK*hsssssssssss...) and likewise when it goes to sleep. On the Sony, I hear *nothing*. Its utterly silent. Well, aside from the music.
I'm getting this exchanged ASAP. And to think I was blaiming the Diamond
no problem with my diamond!. excellent quality both with my stereo headphones playing music or with car BT device. the connection is instantaneous and no background noises.
i must be lucky...lol. i have no lag with iGO8, my camera is taking good pictures and generally speaking i have nothing to complain about i am embarrassed...feeling left out
I thought I'd resurect my thread with an update... It appears that its NOT the Jabra at fault. I got it exchanged for a new one (the store didnt have a DS-200 at this time) and my conclusions stands at this:
- Listening closer to the Diamonds top speaker (like putting my ear to it, not good to do lol), it has the exact same type of noise. Its just that the volume of sound is so much greater its immiedietly drowned out. In other words, the Diamond behaves like this.
- Listening closer to the Diamonds package wire HF, it once again has the exact same type of noise, but here it is considerably lower and you really have to listen hard to it to hear: its not really noticable during playback even on lower volumes. So once again, this is how the Diamond sounds.
- The Jabra 3030 exaggerate the noise 10x, hence why its so annoying and with poor quality. Listening on low volume is drowned out by noise.
I got to see if I can try my buddies DS-200 again, listen closer this time... I'm starting to suspect that its a matter of how good the signal processing is on the Jabra, due to the Diamond sending out a noisy signal. If the DS-200 handle audio like the wired HF (same behaviour, much less noise), then its obviously "as good as it gets".
Sounds to me like there's something wrong with your Diamond, I can't hear any hissing through mine with the included (wired) headset or from the speaker on the device.

I suppose that's possible... But did you listen real close? I cant hear the noise from the speaker unless I stick my ear to it and the wired noise is very subtle, unnoticable during playback. Maybe I just got sensitive ears
I have tried the DS-200 again and got a background noise level that's much closer to the wired level, though a little notch higher. And its far, far lower than the Jabra. In particular, the electronic sound on turn on/off is not that noticable while the Jabra make my ear twitch.

I have a Jabra BT3030 and it works just fine in fact its perfect... Are you using a stock rom by anychance... if so what version...? you may want to use a cooked rom with the latest O/S.. as this does solve alot of BT problems...!
I am using the latest official (1.93 I believe it is). I dont quite see how a cooked rom will change the bluetooth performance of the handsfree (as a sidenote, I have tested removing those two bluetooth variables in the registry that according to another site would vastly improve quality: it did absolutely nothing)... But granted, I may just try it tonight if I ever do figure out which one to use, lol.

Low quality bluetooth audio to headphones, car audio, anything

Hey y'all,
I've had my note 4 for a couple of weeks now and am decently satisfied with the phone (don't get me started on how laggy touchwiz is - waiting on L update). Anyway I'm having an issue with bluetooth that is driving me insane. My previous phone was a nexus 5 that I always paired with my car and my sony bluetooth headset. I had no audio quality issues and the sound was clean enough for bluetooth. I only play decently high quality music and have the ears to hear the difference in sound so after paring my note 4 to the same devices, the highs are very crackly and come through with ear piercing noise and the lows are mostly gone as I cannot hear the punchy bass anymore in songs. I then proceeded to turn off bluetooth then plugged in the device with an aux cable and to no surprise the sound quality increased tremendously. The bass of the song came through and the highs were perfectly clear.
I tried various songs of various quality, various music players (current is poweramp - always have had best quality music from it), but to no avail. Sound is still really bad quality. Other issues I've had is my plantronics bluetooth headset randomly transmitting white noise to my ears and to the person on the other end. This does not happen with an LG G3. And also my LG G watch tends to randomly disconnect for a minute or two when the phone is playing audio in the car over bluetooth (this doesn't change sound quality).
I've done some research about this issue and I've found some forums and people talking about the Note 3 having bad quality audio and that switching to an aosp rom fixed it since that switched the bluetooth stack from samsung to android/google. I've also seen someone noticing that the bitpool on the note 3 dropped significantly when playing music and having another device connected, however with or without my watch I still get low quality sound. So I've come to you guys. My phone is not rooted, knox counter is at 0x0 and I don't know what to do. I feel like this is a universal issue with the note 4 and the samsung bluetooth stack and am not sure how to tackle this problem. Let me know what you guys think or if you have a similar experience!

Samsung Level U Pro - BT Headphones - Wow

Picked these up on Amazon for £70, main reason was level app gives all the function and tuning sound to suit plus the two speaker per earpiece design.
Cut to the chase stunning sound. I am picky with around 10 pairs of headphones ranging from Sony, Beats to AT. Also an ex audiophile coming from full on active Naim Audio system. Reason for mentioning that was the way Naim exerts grip, control, detail and ease rarely phased.
This sums up the headphones, never experienced this sort of deep controlled taut bass on headphones coupled with a clear midrange- normally one ruins the other.
The sound level when you attach the right size buds is shockingly loud - at max phone and headset zero distortion.
Plus you get all the notifications and crap s voice. Can take calls not tried says has two microphones.
Negatives, neck surround it very hard and stiff, ear buds do not totally seal and on my set BT occasionally disconnects but worst of all an ongoing BT skip every 15 - 30 seconds.
Hope I can solve the connectivity as even my cheap mpow have zero BT issues.
All that said an awesome headset.
Update: Reset the level U and unpaired, then repaired - all sorted NO BT connectivity issues, also have my Gear S2 and Car BT connected this morning.
Wore it to work, forgot I had it on as it was just hanging on my shoulders, realised when it vibrated (notifications).
Tried a few call, very good, I prefer to use it with 1 earpiece, mic quality (has 2) seems very good to the other party.
What about battery life?
Not really timed it but on a full charge 6 days ago have had 5hrs use in the app still shows more than half.

As mentioned I had a skip issue but that was with my s2 watch and headphones after unpairing and repairing never been an issue.

I had many bluetooth headsets and i can say for my the best bt headset was the motorola s9 a real HD sound after that the s10 and s11 they didn't have a sweet sound
btw. I have stuttering too I don't know if it's the headset or the samsung s7 .
I hope samsung gives a fix for this.

Bought this unit today and paired with Axon 7 Mini and instantly hated the sound and volume level.....of course i was driving away from the store and just had to try it. I immediately put the headset on my center console in my car and left it till i finished up my other activities and didn't touch it till i got home and downloaded the Level app from the play store. Pulled up reviews on amazon,and Headfi and saw people raving about the sound quality,put my laptop down and started going through my settings on the phone players(Neutron,Poweramp beta,and built in ZTE hi res player)......then setup Samsung Level app and changed the silicone tips to a set that fit my ears perfectly and then .....DAMN ! These things DO sound amazing. The quality of the drivers is beyond what i expected and the volume is just perfect....I love to crank it up,but my ears have been damaged through playing in live bands and crazy loud car stereos,and the volume was loud but not painfully so....These are keepers and sound great with the Dolby Atmos turned on. My two cents .....great deal when you find these now for $39.99

I'm having big issues with audio breaking up and distortion with louder audio tracks, or when its busy musically.
Any ideas?? It's Exynos (8GB/512GB) version. Atmos doesn't affect anything. All audio sources of the same track produce it.
It sounds horrendous when its doing it. I thought my headphones were broken but it does it on speaker too.

I'm having the same issue with the US unlocked snapdragon version.
I spent an hour with Samsung Support going through issues. Interestingly the audio through the speaker in diagnostic mode didn't show any issues but probably due to different frequencies and sound profile to the songs that are causing the issue. Safe mode made no difference and neither did a factory reset. They said I could do a handset swap but no current stock of the blue. Ended up finding a local store with a 512GB blue in stock so drove over there, purchased it, same issues so instantly returned that handset. I also saw this thread about the S9 Plus where people have been describing similar issues (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s9-plus/help/galaxy-s9-plus-sound-problem-t3774829)... maybe I've made a poor decision ditching iPhone!?
Is this the sort of thing using something like Viper4Android would fix?
Same issue. 128G Verizon. I had this issue on a call once(may have been the signal) but then the audio did the same thing a couple times. The behavior is that of a track where the track had been recorded with the signal too strong or the gain too high(same thing really). Turning the volume down only makes it sound like a quiter distorted signal. 1 thing i noticed was, when using smart switch my custom "EQ" setting was transferred over. I changed it but that didn't change anything.

For start - turn off all the eq settings (if you have some turned on) in sound menu - dolby, adaptive sound and so on.
If it's software problem rooting and moding the phone would help, if it's hardware issue maybe it can mitigate it, but that's beside the point to have expensive device with not working sound out of the box.

What would be better though, an LG? A Sony? Or am I then just settling for something less.

LG V series got awesome DAC. Did you tried a player like powermap (there is a free trial) that can output at high resolution directly from the DAC, ignoring the OS? It produces vastly superior sound on my exynos s7e. Don't forget to sign up for the beta tho, a lot of improvements in the latest in sound/UI design. The new exynos 9810 still uses wolfson/circus logics DAC that is praised everywhere (especially hifi forums and ofc for a phone). Maybe you just don't like the sound balance of it, as it's quite neutral. That is personal preference though, not negative point - some like neutral, others warmer and so on.

yeah but it's not constant. It only happens sometimes. To me the behavior is exactly like when you record something at max volume and then play it back and it sounds like it's blowing your speakers apart. Mine sounds great for the most part and this only happens sometimes.

i remember having this problem in the samsung S3 a long time ago ...this can only be fixed with a samsung update...
Same problems intermittently on exynos.
Fingers crossed. Would point to software if experienced by S845 and Exynos.

Is this happening with wired and bluetooth? I haven't had this issue with mine, but my bluetooth devices support separate audio control, so that the phone can be turned all the way up, but my bluetooth devices can then control their own volume further.
I'm getting some intermittent issues with speaker output where the bottom speaker seems to lower in volume and bass after some minutes of use. Overall the speakers fare well for upbeat music but very poorly for piano tracks where they add some rattle and crackling (same goes for some narration or podcasts). Some days I don't notice this at all but it might be due to multiple audio apps running or how the lower speaker is normalizing the bass. Also, just a few minutes ago my speakers just stopped working for media playback, but the volume rocker still made sounds through the speaker. I was using headphones and playing music for the video editor for super slow motion videos before this happened. The only way out was to restart the phone. I tried replicating it but it didn't happen again.

Most likely a software issue (same with the cracking sound) and will be fixed (hopefully) in a update or atleast in P.
I have no such issues with my Exynos Note 9. I listen to music a lot with headphones and it sounds fantastic quite honestly. I actually ditched my LG G7 becuase I didn't hear too much benefits with the sound to justify keeping it just for music. I actually kind of prefer the output from the Note 9 generally. The G7 might have had a tad more spacious sound but also a bit more "muffled" at the same time. A little bit more emphasis in highs in the Note which I prefer.

Galaxy buds self test / other problems

This is not really specific to the S10s, but since the galaxy buds came with it, I'm asking here.
If anyone has the galaxy buds, could you go to Wearable app, then about earbuds, then tap multiple times on device name, you will get a debug page with an option to self test the buds.
I get failed results for the proximity sensors, I wonder if it's just a software problem or something is wrong with my earbuds.

Further, I just want to convey my frustration with the connectivity, first it has a serious problem with the Facebook Messenger, it would not route the call to the earbuds, I have to reconnect them once or twice. Second, they constantly fall out of sync during calls, as in one bud would be a second ahead of the other.
Other than those issues, nothing really much to complain about, the sound quality is good, microphone quality and sensitivity are good, battery life is awesome.

Same here, it happened a few times where they restart themselves, let's hope we get a fix soon.

Got the a few hours ago, so not much usage time. However I will test them over the next few days, also with whatsapp and messenger calling and revert.
One other thing - the buds work as a single earpiece, perfect for calls at the office. That was a big surprise. You can put one in ear, one back in the box, and the one in the ear works as a single unit. Will test that too and may then retire my headset. The sound during calls is very good and also the sound reported by callers and the music plays very good too, not over done. Do remember to switch on the Dolby Atmos on the phone and the equalizer for the buds (my favorite is the dynamic setting).
Best of luck with them - for the moment they seem very good.

Thank you for the input, I am satisfied with the sound quality as well both in calls and in music, and I have the Dolby Atmos + dynamic equalizer on all the time.
I am using the Galaxy Buds and when talking to through the buds on Phone calls I sound muffled not very clear. Does anyone know why?
ive got 2 pairs of the buds, one for me and one for the wife. mine have been flawless and my wifes go out of range at like 3 ft sometimes. and its like a 1 ear thing sometimes. Then we re-pair and they work for an hour then do the same thing. wonder if its going to be a software update or i need to do a warranty.
I just ran 4 tests on my black Galaxy buds, results are as follows:
In case (1st time):
-All accelerometers failed
Removed from case, laying flat on table:
-All pass
Inserted into both ears:
-Both (Left & Right) proximity sensors failed
In case (2nd time):
-All pass
got an update pushed about an hour ago. hopefully this fixes everything.
I've had the same thing happen to me. I discovered that if I tried to do the self test while wearing them, I would get a fail but when they are in my hand or just laying on the table it would pass. Hope this helps.

If anyone has the galaxy buds, could you go to Wearable app, then about earbuds, then tap multiple times on device name, you will get a debug page with an option to self test the buds.
I get failed results for the proximity sensors, I wonder if it's just a software problem or something is wrong with my earbuds.

Further, I just want to convey my frustration with the connectivity, first it has a serious problem with the Facebook Messenger, it would not route the call to the earbuds, I have to reconnect them once or twice. Second, they constantly fall out of sync during calls, as in one bud would be a second ahead of the other.
Other than those issues, nothing really much to complain about, the sound quality is good, microphone quality and sensitivity are good, battery life is awesome.
