I need help to hard reset to factory setting a phone i've inherited from my kids, i don't have pin to unlock to get to settings, need to hard reset.. any thoughts on easy way.. I've tried for two days and i'm stumped..

I have a germany vodafone branded phone and use it in portugal unlocked. If I do a factory reset I will lose the unlock or not? By the way could you confirm how can i do a factory reset?

you can go to recovery mode. turn of phone then volumeup+home+power.
or goto settings then privacy
so does a factory reset wipe out the unlock, and re-lock my vibrant to T-mobile?
Depend on how have u unlocked the phone..... I think factory reset with wipe out the unlock coding. In case if the unlock has been rooted & than done than it won't.

Also its rooted/Oced from what I can tell as well , do I need to remove the root as well to factory reset it? It's running 2.1 update 1.
If you are talking about the subsidy/carrier lock, it sticks after resets (meaning you dont need to ever redo it again). I always either unlock my phones and buy them unlocked and have never seen a phone relock.
If you mean bootloaders or SPLs, you need to be careful which sbf you flash.
But with a factory reset, the worst you can do is lose data and apps.

It could simply be never locked. Carrier lock is not mandatory phone feature

No need to remove root for factory reset.
You can easily root it, so dont worry, just jump in..

If your referring to the SIM Unlock so you can use another SIM Card in your device then NO, a Hard Reset will NOT relock you device to one carrier.
