As the topic title states - should I get a retail unit of the beastly N6?
I am currently a long-time Xperia user, and feels like I want to try something additional to play with - that also got a huge development support, specially on the kernel side (FLASH-O-HOLIC GUY HERE!!!). Great development rates in general for Xperia units varies a lot between the unit, as expected..
Guys, please. Point me in the proper and correct decision.
Any benefits from a Nexus unit? Huh?

What is the known issues with the Nexus 6? How high fail-rate does the device have in general?
Long time lurker, I just saw this thread and wanted to comment. After going through 2 of the nexus 6's, I would wait and see if Google announces anything at the end of may. There are many issues that can plague the phone:
1. horizontal or vertical banding
2. uneven "lighting" (one part of the screen appears darker than the rest
3. crackling in sound
4. battery back coming loose and popping off
5. un-even screen (the screen is not aligned properly)
On my 2 devices I had the battery back issue and the lighting issue where the top 1/3rd of my screen appeared reddish pink while the rest had a standard tint. The device is roughly 7 months old now so its almost towards the end of the life cycle. I'd hold off and see if anything else comes out that you may be interested in.

An Nexus6+ or Nexus 8?
I got a Nexus 6 last week, coming from Nexus 5. After the first 'wow this thing is like a tablet' the phone ist getting really fast comfortable. One hand usage is possible.
With the best community here you get tools like sweep2wake or doubletap to sleep. Its blazing fast, really nice screen (but only inside) and fells really light.
And playing games/watching movies is so nice :good:
If you're a flashaholic like you say it would be a yes.
Went from a note 3 to this device and I have no regrets. It's fast, smooth and the stereo speakers rock.
Yes sir.

What the hell are you talking about
Every device has its quirks but you make it sound like these are widespread issues because some users reported these defects. I have non of the above defects so for me the device is perfect. And a 7 months old device is not at the end of its lifecycle. We`ll still get 2 major updates at least, try that on a Sony, HTC or Samsung
I can wholehartedly recommend this phone for its speed, good camera and other hardware and great developers support. The N6 is the best device i ever owned hands down :good:

Yes, you can buy a N6.
Since the beginning of this year a N6.
I've had only issues with Lollipop and Google apps.
The light material design and the kernel were causing battery drain. The text in the Gmail app is hard to read (grey text on white background; these colors can't be changed). After flashing Franco's kernel and a black Google Now Launcher and disabling not used apps and services the issue 'battery drain' was solved and that made the N6 great for daily use.
I changed the lcd-density to 384 and the font size to huge. That turns the N6 in tablet mode.
For a better grip I use a cheap ultra thin hard case from eBay. I carry the N6 in a vertical belt case.
(Still looking for a black alternative for Gmail)
I got this device and I really like it but I'm a little disappointed. i have had the nexus 5 and a note 4 also. i really like the nexus 6 for its big screen and speakers. but both of my previous devices were faster and smoother. i gave my dad the nexus 5 and my mom the note 4 and since i still use them occasionally I can fairly judge all of them. My dads nexus 5 is running cataclysm and it is a perfect experience with no bugs. the recents screen and all the animations are super smooth. My moms note 4 is running firekat and everything is smooth with no lag either. but i have the nexus 6 on chroma which is supposed to be the best rom and its not nearly as smooth. recents widows still lag and stutter and with every release there is something new wrong with it.

yeah i clean flashed and i have so many problems on it. expanded desktop doesn't work and the notification panel won't even pull down lol. the other problems i have i have had with every release of it. the recent windows just don't pull away smoothly they always stutter a little bit at the end. google play music will randomly stop working and i have to reboot the device to listen to music again. and for some reason chrome beta takes super long to open too. i tap on it and wait at least 5 seconds for it to open... oh and sometimes auto rotate messes up my wall paper too

Try to reproduce these issues and post a logcat in the Chroma thread or PM them to @zephiK so he can deal with it. Thats how issues are solved
I just got one to replace a Note 4. It reminds me a lot of the Moto X, but bigger and better. Which is a wonderful thing. The Note 4 will be why I'll never buy another Touchwiz device again though, so I feel like I've been let out of a crappy prison. I'm so sick of tech reviews that use a phone for 11 days and try to tell you what's worth owning. Never again.

I think for everyday users, the note 4 has a lot to offer.. Great caner a hardware and software for example. Also it has that great default notification tone.. It just never gets old...
But for modders, its a no go.

Within another 5 months the new line of nexus devices will be out. I am not saying the nexus 6 won't be updated, but it wont be "the" device anymore. After visiting about 12 verizon wireless stores and checking out their display model, I can say I found many of the same defects I listed on all 12 models. Including my 2 that makes a sample size of 14 devices that all have some form of defect.
I am not saying this phone is not great, as I really did like it. The question was should he wait or buy now and I simply suggested wait as the next best thing is almost here already (nexus line wise) and he has waited this long, whats the difference for another 4-5 months. Since he is also buying this retail (I assume full price), the money would be better well spent on a more refined piece of hardware. The nexus 6 was google's first try at a large phone, i'm sure the next google device that comes out will perfect this.

Hmmmmmm, I have had none of the described issues written here, maybe you got a Lemon? I was on the HTC phone for the past few years until they came out with the (IMHO) pathetic M9, after looking at that in one of the VZ stores, my attention drifted elsewhere. The VZ rep said sales of the M9 are real slow, at least here so it will be interesting to see what HTC does, or doesn't do.
If someone want to get ride of note 4 to get one nexus 6, I would trade for sure xD.....hate my nexus 6 lol
960 FPS video showing OnePlus 5 display refreshing inverted compared to Pixel XL &S8+
The 57 second video is scrolling with the OP5. Notice how it refreshes bottom-to-top, opposite of how it should be refreshing.
The 35 and 34 second videos are the Pixel XL and Galaxy S8+, refreshing top-to-bottom, as they should be.

Into the trash the OP5 goes!
Oh no... I was hoping for a software fault but that... [emoji47]
If you watch some disassembly videos you will see that the screen on the OP5 sits upside down comparing to OP3 and other manufacturers.
Between all the statement and confirmations I am still not sure what to do I have 4 days left to send it back. I am still love this phone for all other part but the jelly one is just annoying and we still don't know if this is fixable in any way. In one way OnePlus says it's natural and normal and in the other way we hear from the support that they "work" on it !. It is getting me more and more on my nerves.

There is a possibility of fixing it i.e if Oneplus decides to ask Samsung for a different fw for the displays, unlikely it's going to happen though.
i'm glad i dont notice/have this issue on my OP5 - love the device so far, coming from a note 3

I've posted a thread of the OP5 and OP3 with a photo taken through polarised sunglasses where the 5 has all the whites separated into colours and the 3 does not (nor has any other amoled I've owned)
Also, the comparison you show is excellent. There's something up with this phone and I am certain to return it (mainly as I can't look at it wearing sunglasses!)
What's annoying for me is that I haven't received the phone cause I love in Trinidad and I'm getting the phone next two weeks
I don't understand this issue. Whether you refresh from top to bottom or bottom to top, depending upon which direction you are scrolling to, you will see a slight repaint of the screen as the text from previous paint faints. What's the problem? The slowmo videos from OP show the same effect for Samsung galaxy phone. So, all phones will show this depending on which direction you scroll (as long as its the opposite of the repaint direction). Are you telling me that you only scroll in one direction on your phones?
Has anyone tried speeding up/slowing down animations (in developer options) to see if this effect is reduced/increased?

Our phones are designed in a way that most of the scroll is done from top to bottom because informations are listed from top to bottom. So yes, it will be a lot more noticeable with a refresh from bottom to top than with one from top to bottom.
It could also be linked to the fact that our brain are used to devices refreshing from top to bottom.

Maybe it is just me but what does the placement of a screen has to do with this.
If I use a iPad etc I use it in all ways upside down on the side and I never notice it . Having that said if I use my phone upside down it should work normal?
I also have a oneplus 5 and I come from a oneplus 3 and I never notice a thing what is mentioned here. If the problem was that obvious don't you think everybody would complain and the media would burn oneplus ?
Also asked my wife and she owns a s7 edge and does not feel or see any difference.

I'm not sure how you think they haven't been burned. Tens of thousands of people have read and seen the issue on here, Reddit, and OnePlus forums. I pretty much guarantee your device has it. You're just not sensitive to the issue.

And how sensitive do you have to be to notice this so called bug.
What do I have to do to notice the yelly bug.
I find this one of the weirdest comments ever assuming I have it to but I am not sensitive enough.
And how many are tens of thousands I read a lot on XDA and a bit on the oneplus forum.
And I see a lot of the same users posting messages about this.
But anyway luckily I am not as sensitive as you and no I do not feel offended more blessed haha
Few minutes before seeing the videos in this thread I was already thinking about the fact that it is probably an issue with screen scanning and the fact that, because of the extra code in the driver, some sort of inverted screen scanning (similar to what you have in CRT displays) is happening.
On another note, I noticed the same effect with my Sony Z5 compact when rotating the screen 180 degrees and it's not that bad. I actually like the effect! If gives the interface a funny extra animation.
Just my two cents...

Hey guys! I would like to buy galaxy note 8, but since there was some posts and stories when people having big problems with it's screen (even after 2-3 months) - I am still in consideration. I am talking about burn in and light leak. I know that some people will say it's not very noticeable in some cases and just "chill out", but when I pay for phone 1000 euro - Phone should be perfect.
So I am creating a poll and expecting note 8 users to respond
If you have any problems with screen, could you also mention since when did you experienced it? (e.x. 1-8 months after purchasing)
P.s. As I experienced, note series phones has the most problems with "burn in". The reason I want this phone is because of the stylus pen, which I find very useful.
I have finally created some burn in but it from keeping Pokemon go open for hours and hours at a time. I've now found that using the Tiles app to hide system bars for all apps, but it's too late now. Mine is very faint and only shows in white and blue screen tests. I couldn't see it until I actually ran the burn in test.

Would warranty service replace the screen which has burn-in, or you haven't contacted them yet? Because I asked at Telia in Denmark, and they said that they would.

I can confirm screen burn-in is covered under samsung warranty from experience. My screen burn in came from the enabled auto brightness setting. Quite often my phone is holstered near the front windshield of my car. During the day, sometimes the sunlight would trigger daylight mode which is 100% brightness. Unaware of this, I was exposing the screen to long periods of youtube and maps while driving for months.. Next thing you know, screen burn in. I'm sure many cases are a result of this. So now I use an app too closely monitor auto-brightness. I think as long as one keeps brightness at no higher than 60% will avoid screen burn-in.
I've been using my Note 8 N950N for about 3 months now with auto brightness enabled and everything seems fine so far. I can get 2 days battery with lite usage.
Yeah I could get a replacement but I don't want to get a refurbished phone. I hate getting a device and wondering what they did to actually "fix" whatever was wondering with the original person's defective unit.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
If you purchase it directly from Samsung. You should be fine.
Be wary with Samsung's repair centers
Sent my phone for repair last week( display burn-in) received it with the same problem ( and was charged for a repair, which I paid thinking it was for the screen ) what they changed was the charging port which I had no problem with . Now they want me to send it again and I won't . Won't get charged again
No burn in for me. Got the phone on January this year (2018). Flashed and rooted on the first week. Loving the phone.
I Have my note 8 since Nov 2017 for almost 11 months, no burns or light bleed, nor pinkish tint, or peeling paint, no false moisture warnings, no excessive batt drain, no sluggish charging, no lag, zero random reboots, no freezing, ram always above 1 GB, cpu temp always below 49 oC, perfect cameras, excellent call quality, fast gps all the time, even indoors, nothing wrong in any way, I am very, very pleased with it, btw, I am running it with 7.1.1
Perfect cameras - not. Selfie - awful !

Mine is almost 7 months old, there is only light leaks (was there when i bought the phone and you will get used to it) but it really doesnt effect the phone nor water resistance. I have swam with my phone many times in both pool and sea, still rocking. If you use full brightness even with the red limit bar ofcourse you will burn the screen. I have used it on that mode many times but still no issues with it. About light leak, it really doesnt bother, i had xa ultra and sides were a little bit curved and i could see the same light leak. Its not that of a big deal.
N950u, crc2
I've had mine for 8 months now. Started with screen becoming less responive to my touch and stylus. About a week ago, my display started opening and exiting apps, couldn't remain on same page, and scrolling on it's own. I took it to my carrier and they replaced it no charge.
So if I zoom in my phone will vibrate and the image is extremely blurry. It seems to be a known issue as Samsung forums are filled with threads about it but no solution except send for service. The problem reoccurs after service, cam module replacement, so seems like a software issue. Very unacceptable. Any fixes? Anyone else dealing with this?
Same problem here. Search the forum. There's already a big thread about it.
/CK
Same issue here, wobbly picture as soon as the x2 zoom camera is used.
It started 2 or 3 months ago (I bought my note 9 in December, 512GB European model)
If I focus on an object a foot or two from the camera it stops wobbling for a few seconds which allows me to take a shot quickly... The "live focus" mode doesn't work either (it uses the zoom camera for the effect)
I've also read that getting the camera replaced didn't help, but I wonder if these are real stories or just a rumour.
In any case, like many people I'm waiting a bit longer to see if Samsung publicly acknowledges the problem before getting it replaced under warranty.

Ring Samsung and get it fixed via warranty ? As thats a manufacturing defect, if my Note had a issue like yours i would get Samsung to fix it.. if they dont fix it, i would get it replaced with a brand new Note-9 from Samsung. That's what warranty is for!
I have this problem also, i have no problem when using the google camera app zoom so i will stick with it it's even better than the stock Samsung camera app.

Had this.. fixed in samsung service...since im rooted price was around 110 euro..
Same issue
Yeah same issue here. The camera itself seems to be vibrating and making a noise like it's struggling to focus. I had the device replaced and the camera worked for 4 months and started to play up again. Honestly happened with my Note 4 as well, although the Note 4 could be slapped out of it at least. Very frustrating.
When I upgraded to android 10 my vibration camera problem disappeared.

Interesting, as Samsung usually refuses to repair rooted devices.

I never notice any camera zoom issues with my N960N, when I was using it running android pie. I haven't tested it running on android 10 as I have managed to fix my N950N. As my N960N is now a backup device, which I backup my N950N to frequently.
I want to buy a Motorola Edge 20 Pro but i want to ask anyone with a Edge 20 Pro could you please check if there is discoloration or tint issues in the display and sent me a picture I would really appreciate it. I am thinking of buying this phone but i held off because I wanted to know if the screen gets a green tint when viewed in darker apps like a dark mode of chrome or anything similar with a dark grey background. I have heard oled sceens tend to have this issue.
I myself used 2 phones with this issue they were the Poco F3 and the Pixel 6 and i both returned them for the green tint issues.
Bump
I noticed that last night actually. I was watching some videos and screen got really dark, and top of my screen was a bit brighter for some reason. I downloaded black picture, and put it on full screen, and then I dim the brightness down, and yeah, same result.
I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I have a touchscreen issues, entire UI is bugging, camera quality is awful. Fingerprint sensor is unresponsive at least 30% of the time.

Weren't the touchscreen issues supposed to have been sorted via a software update earlier in the year? What problems are you having with the ui? The camera does seem to get a lot of complaints, your not on your own there.

Im still have issues of some double touches.

My issue looks like this, Ive tried launchers, just stock UI, to hard reset my edge 20 pro, and use just stock ui, but after a while, same bug is happening.
And for the camera, you have tons of complaints as well, tho they made it a little bit better with last update, users waited a year for that lol.

Hopefully they'll issue further updates with some more improvements
Alright so i have been away for a little while, but now I’m back and i have to say that you’re right about the Motorola Edge 20 Pro I actually bought that phone because I thought let’s give it a chance how bad can it be? But boy was I wrong, because the phone had many problems. First of all. Lag issues, like everywhere. Second of all. Screen issues, black crush, green tint on the top of the phone and red tint on the bottom of the phone. Software was laggy and touchscreen was unresponsive. So I returned the phone and finally got a refund.
I've reached out to Lenovo support. They asked me for a lot of bug reports, which I have provided.
What I've noticed lately is a burst of touches that happens sometime. Like, I'm typing a message "what's up?' And phone would just glitch and act like i pressed 10 of letters "p", 'Whats's uppppppppppp" With all vibrations for every letter.
Also, double touch function on finger print sensor is not working like 70% of time. And just like a strawberry on a cake. Every time you reboot/turn off and on your phone, this function will disable itself for some reason.
I've have Sony xperia J, Sony M2, Sony XA, Motorola g6, Moto g6 play, Redmi Note 8 pro, and now Motorola edge 20 pro.
So far, this phone is the worst phone I've have ever had.
It's not worth this money nor your nerves to deal with all the issues this phone have.
I didn’t even need to contact Lenovo directly I just contacted the store told them my issues, but they ended up sending me a new phone (The same phone) even though i said I didn’t want it anymore. At first, I had some trouble returning the phone afterwards, I returned the phone to them which took 3 times to walk to the store and back because there was some sort of communication issues and that’s why they returned the phone to me even though i sended it and demanded a refund which they agreed upon eventually but then sended the phone back and yadadadadadadadadda. End of the story is that I eventually, headachely returned the phone and got my money back. Because the store was so nice and actually told me that i will get my money back which is better then contacting lenovo and going through the stupid hassle of trying to contact them and them saying that “they will help you and yadadadada” Because let’s be real the manufacturer just wants you to keep the phone lol.
Sorry for the unorganized post just woke up lol
I took this phone over Yettel carrier. So I will try anything before trying to return it. As it will be really difficult.... The phone must go to the official service center 3 times before they would be able to process a refund to me.
And I need phone so. Yeah, im stuck with this unresponsive, piece of glass and plastic.
Can’t you just use one of your other phones? As a back up (Unlike me who has them all with broken unresponsive screens) lol.

I sold my Redmi Note 8 pro to get this junk. FML
Got my refund back, and i don’t know which phone to buy.
Sorry to hear all these bugs about the phone. Mine had a recurring rebooting problem. Sent to official Motorola repair (3rd party, Roadhound), but they can't replicate the problem. I made a video about it here:
Motorola Edge 20 Pro Rebooting Problem
Random reboot before and after Motorola Service checkup.
bit.ly
Finally returned to my JBHiFi store (AUS) and got a refund. Got a Zenfone 8 and never looked back.
