Question I need a new phone. - Motorola Edge 20 Pro

I want to buy a Motorola Edge 20 Pro but i want to ask anyone with a Edge 20 Pro could you please check if there is discoloration or tint issues in the display and sent me a picture I would really appreciate it. I am thinking of buying this phone but i held off because I wanted to know if the screen gets a green tint when viewed in darker apps like a dark mode of chrome or anything similar with a dark grey background. I have heard oled sceens tend to have this issue.
I myself used 2 phones with this issue they were the Poco F3 and the Pixel 6 and i both returned them for the green tint issues.

Bump

I noticed that last night actually. I was watching some videos and screen got really dark, and top of my screen was a bit brighter for some reason. I downloaded black picture, and put it on full screen, and then I dim the brightness down, and yeah, same result.
I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I have a touchscreen issues, entire UI is bugging, camera quality is awful. Fingerprint sensor is unresponsive at least 30% of the time.

Weren't the touchscreen issues supposed to have been sorted via a software update earlier in the year? What problems are you having with the ui? The camera does seem to get a lot of complaints, your not on your own there.

Im still have issues of some double touches.
https://www.reddit.com/r/motorolaedge20/comments/uul4q5
My issue looks like this, Ive tried launchers, just stock UI, to hard reset my edge 20 pro, and use just stock ui, but after a while, same bug is happening.
And for the camera, you have tons of complaints as well, tho they made it a little bit better with last update, users waited a year for that lol.

Hopefully they'll issue further updates with some more improvements

Alright so i have been away for a little while, but now I’m back and i have to say that you’re right about the Motorola Edge 20 Pro I actually bought that phone because I thought let’s give it a chance how bad can it be? But boy was I wrong, because the phone had many problems. First of all. Lag issues, like everywhere. Second of all. Screen issues, black crush, green tint on the top of the phone and red tint on the bottom of the phone. Software was laggy and touchscreen was unresponsive. So I returned the phone and finally got a refund.

I've reached out to Lenovo support. They asked me for a lot of bug reports, which I have provided.
What I've noticed lately is a burst of touches that happens sometime. Like, I'm typing a message "what's up?' And phone would just glitch and act like i pressed 10 of letters "p", 'Whats's uppppppppppp" With all vibrations for every letter.
Also, double touch function on finger print sensor is not working like 70% of time. And just like a strawberry on a cake. Every time you reboot/turn off and on your phone, this function will disable itself for some reason.
I've have Sony xperia J, Sony M2, Sony XA, Motorola g6, Moto g6 play, Redmi Note 8 pro, and now Motorola edge 20 pro.
So far, this phone is the worst phone I've have ever had.
It's not worth this money nor your nerves to deal with all the issues this phone have.

I didn’t even need to contact Lenovo directly I just contacted the store told them my issues, but they ended up sending me a new phone (The same phone) even though i said I didn’t want it anymore. At first, I had some trouble returning the phone afterwards, I returned the phone to them which took 3 times to walk to the store and back because there was some sort of communication issues and that’s why they returned the phone to me even though i sended it and demanded a refund which they agreed upon eventually but then sended the phone back and yadadadadadadadadda. End of the story is that I eventually, headachely returned the phone and got my money back. Because the store was so nice and actually told me that i will get my money back which is better then contacting lenovo and going through the stupid hassle of trying to contact them and them saying that “they will help you and yadadadada” Because let’s be real the manufacturer just wants you to keep the phone lol.
Sorry for the unorganized post just woke up lol

I took this phone over Yettel carrier. So I will try anything before trying to return it. As it will be really difficult.... The phone must go to the official service center 3 times before they would be able to process a refund to me.
And I need phone so. Yeah, im stuck with this unresponsive, piece of glass and plastic.

Can’t you just use one of your other phones? As a back up (Unlike me who has them all with broken unresponsive screens) lol.

I sold my Redmi Note 8 pro to get this junk. FML

Got my refund back, and i don’t know which phone to buy.

Sorry to hear all these bugs about the phone. Mine had a recurring rebooting problem. Sent to official Motorola repair (3rd party, Roadhound), but they can't replicate the problem. I made a video about it here:
Motorola Edge 20 Pro Rebooting Problem
Random reboot before and after Motorola Service checkup.
bit.ly
Finally returned to my JBHiFi store (AUS) and got a refund. Got a Zenfone 8 and never looked back.

Screen uniformity issues

I'm not sure how many of you experience this issue, but I definitely run in to it now and again especially when using the XDA app coincidentally. On certain grey tones at low brightness and in night mode, you can get situations where you know that the screen should be a uniform gray but it just isn't. I get some areas of the screen that are definitely darker than others. It's not noticeable usually during the day or even most of the time at night, but it bothers me that it exists at all. This was a much bigger problem on some of the initial units and is much less of a problem now. It really makes minimal functional issues but this doesn't seem to be a problem with other amoleds. A bit disconcerting quirk of my favorite smartphone.

I noticed this when I got my OP3 back in June, I wanted to contact OnePlus about this and get an exchange but didn't seem worth waiting another 3 weeks for a phone. Someone on the forum got an instant replacement though.
I sold mine because of this.
I sent it to replacement 2 weeks ago. The new one is on its way though. It should arrive some time this week, hopefully with no problems.
Yeah mine has the same issue, not sure what to do
My phone is manufactured in August 2016, just noticed it yesterday - when the screen should be dark, left/top side of the screen seems to be lit little bit more - lighter gray than the rest of the screen.
Going to root in a couple of days, normally would just would send back, but don't want the ball ache of waiting a couple of weeks for a replacement. Should be able to minimise with different themes
Got my replacement phone, also with the issue but less noticeable. I think I'm gonna stay with it.
EDIT: Forgot to tell that in the previous the problem was 'top-to-bottom' and in the new one it's 'left-to-right'.

Galaxy note 8 (about screen issues)

Hey guys! I would like to buy galaxy note 8, but since there was some posts and stories when people having big problems with it's screen (even after 2-3 months) - I am still in consideration. I am talking about burn in and light leak. I know that some people will say it's not very noticeable in some cases and just "chill out", but when I pay for phone 1000 euro - Phone should be perfect.
So I am creating a poll and expecting note 8 users to respond
If you have any problems with screen, could you also mention since when did you experienced it? (e.x. 1-8 months after purchasing)
P.s. As I experienced, note series phones has the most problems with "burn in". The reason I want this phone is because of the stylus pen, which I find very useful.
I have finally created some burn in but it from keeping Pokemon go open for hours and hours at a time. I've now found that using the Tiles app to hide system bars for all apps, but it's too late now. Mine is very faint and only shows in white and blue screen tests. I couldn't see it until I actually ran the burn in test.

Would warranty service replace the screen which has burn-in, or you haven't contacted them yet? Because I asked at Telia in Denmark, and they said that they would.

I can confirm screen burn-in is covered under samsung warranty from experience. My screen burn in came from the enabled auto brightness setting. Quite often my phone is holstered near the front windshield of my car. During the day, sometimes the sunlight would trigger daylight mode which is 100% brightness. Unaware of this, I was exposing the screen to long periods of youtube and maps while driving for months.. Next thing you know, screen burn in. I'm sure many cases are a result of this. So now I use an app too closely monitor auto-brightness. I think as long as one keeps brightness at no higher than 60% will avoid screen burn-in.
I've been using my Note 8 N950N for about 3 months now with auto brightness enabled and everything seems fine so far. I can get 2 days battery with lite usage.
Yeah I could get a replacement but I don't want to get a refurbished phone. I hate getting a device and wondering what they did to actually "fix" whatever was wondering with the original person's defective unit.
Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
If you purchase it directly from Samsung. You should be fine.
Be wary with Samsung's repair centers
Sent my phone for repair last week( display burn-in) received it with the same problem ( and was charged for a repair, which I paid thinking it was for the screen ) what they changed was the charging port which I had no problem with . Now they want me to send it again and I won't . Won't get charged again
No burn in for me. Got the phone on January this year (2018). Flashed and rooted on the first week. Loving the phone.
I Have my note 8 since Nov 2017 for almost 11 months, no burns or light bleed, nor pinkish tint, or peeling paint, no false moisture warnings, no excessive batt drain, no sluggish charging, no lag, zero random reboots, no freezing, ram always above 1 GB, cpu temp always below 49 oC, perfect cameras, excellent call quality, fast gps all the time, even indoors, nothing wrong in any way, I am very, very pleased with it, btw, I am running it with 7.1.1

Mine is almost 7 months old, there is only light leaks (was there when i bought the phone and you will get used to it) but it really doesnt effect the phone nor water resistance. I have swam with my phone many times in both pool and sea, still rocking. If you use full brightness even with the red limit bar ofcourse you will burn the screen. I have used it on that mode many times but still no issues with it. About light leak, it really doesnt bother, i had xa ultra and sides were a little bit curved and i could see the same light leak. Its not that of a big deal.
N950u, crc2
I've had mine for 8 months now. Started with screen becoming less responive to my touch and stylus. About a week ago, my display started opening and exiting apps, couldn't remain on same page, and scrolling on it's own. I took it to my carrier and they replaced it no charge.

Well not impressed. The width is a little nicer buts that's about all. I liked the lcd screen better and the screen ratio. No game suite on US version? Sideways HUAWEI staring at me 90%of the time. Can live without my extra 128 card. Sorry guys just drunk and *****ing. Come on Mate 20 Lcd you better be good.

Well regarding burn in I can't disagree, I'm surprised very few people report this. I'm glad Huawei Customer service replaced it without arguing. I hope I won't need to do it again, and if that's the case, I'd test again their customer service.
Regarding pixel uniformity, I can't notice anything wrong with this 3 weeks old screen

It's looks good now. Nice vibrant color till it gets burn in. Learned the hard way on my last phones to stay away from oled. Speakers are a little better on the Pro. I do miss the front navigation button. All in all good phone for me. The K970 won't win in any drag race but it has been a solid performer for me. Was set till the M20s came out but a thief changed that plan. Oh well grandson will enjoy this one over the M9 I gave him last year. Come on November.

Same here, I don't keep my phone running for hours with luminosity set to the max. As stated in my post, my device is a second hand. No idea what was previous owner habits, but being able to see his homescreen setup was a nightmare. I even had the impression I could see my own homescreen setup progressivel superimposed before contacting Huawei Customer service, but that could be a placebo effect Just too bad I did not took a picture of the result.
If issue was about Waze screen burning the display due to hours loooong rides, I could understand, but it wasn't the case. And even if it was, Huawei and other manufacturers should warn about it. And I suppose Huawei tries to minimize it with the auto-dimming enforced, but TBH I never heard people complaining about Samsung or Pixel devices.
In order to minimize the issue, I installed Gesture Control and even payed for Pro version, so I won't have navigation bar burning the display, and in addition I can enjoy fullscreen display all the time It could be an option for you as you miss fp reader/navigation button. There are few missed actions, I don't know if it's a matter of app sensivity setup, another parameter, or due to the app itself, but it's enough, and I'll progressively try to change the setup in order to reduce these misses.

All OLED screens suffer from this, some more, other less, but still an issue with oleds.
I'm glad mine doesn't have it, otherwise i would be annoyed too.
Usually static images cause this, but only if you keep your screen ON for hours on the same image.
OLED quality also matters, that's granted.

[Fixed] Touchscreen and scrolling issue S20 FE 5G

Hello there (General Kenobi)
Just got my brand new Galaxy S20 FE 5G a few days ago but I'm experiencing the touch screen issue. My phone is up to date but I still have the problem. When I have to scroll, the screen doesn't respond at all or thinks it's a tap on the screen and it suddenly goes crazy.
It does only occur on the bottom part of the screen after I unlock my phone from a long period of non use.
I contacted Samsung and they told me to get it to a repair center. But I don't know if this will work and I'm a bit scared that getting it to the center would make things worse.
I saw that Samsung already rolled 3 updates out to fix this problem but I'm still not sure if it is a hardware or a software problem.
Did you guys face this issue? Do you think it is a hardware problem and I should repair it?
It is a good phone and after having left the Pixels because of hardware problem I'm annoyed
*WELL hello there
I get the occasional unwanted zoom in a browser or failure to respond to touch, what you're describing sounds worse than the multitouch issue others have been reporting.
I'd give serious consideration to returning that phone for a replacement or refund. the current reckoning around here seems to be that this phone got a digitizer from a cheaper price range compared to other S20s. what you describe sounds like a faulty digitizer.
is putting up with it for a couple of years not going to bug the crap out of you ?
if they offer only to repair it, accept only a new screen / digitizer / glass swap out.

About the famous multi-touch problem I have to admit that I tried to reproduce it but it only appeared when I was using 5 fingers (instead of 2 in the videos I saw)
I think you're right and I should get it repaired. And I'll see after that if the problem is still here I'll ask for a replacement. I will post an update as soon as I get it back
Thank you!
If you don't mind, could you let us know your phone's hardware revision number? An app called Phone Info *SAM* can show it. People would be interested to know if Samsung has made any hardware changes to the FE line.
Okay guys I'm sorry I couldn't reply before. I had to sent my phone for a repair THREE TIMES ! The first time they didn't do anything but damaged the back of my phone (replacing the screen and the battery) and the problem was still here. The second time they sent my phone back with the battery literally filled (the back of the phone was also damaged due to the battery that had filled).
I got my phone back on last Friday. Seems to be OK. They told me they couldn't reproduce the problem. They just repaired what they did wrong but didn't seem to do anything with the touchscreen.
The phone looks OK. After 1 day of use, the touchscreen seems to be OK but I would like to wait a bit before adding [FIXED] to the title of the topic
Does anyone know if the 2021 version of FE the 4G Snapdragon (g780g I think) has the same problems with ghost touches and jittery scrolling? Can't find info on that anywhere. Deciding between the FE and 8T, but the risk of bad touchscreen is driving me away from it although it's better phone.

I'm sorry I couldn't tell you. I bought my phone around February and it has the problem. This is the 5G variant with Snapdragon 865. I didn't even know there was a 4G variant with Snapdragon (in France, it's either 4G/Exynos or 5G/Snapdragon).

That all sounds like an Exynoss version He might be wrong, maybe it is Exy?
Haha I don't feel concerned about the problems that he had because coming from a Pixel 5 some of the problems he had was worse on the P5 (reception, sound quality and the fact that the device can get warm)

Question First Thoughts - Share Yours

So after spending the afternoon looking over my pixel 7 and setting it up I thought I would share a few thoughts.
I have had a number of larger phones over the years so the pixel 7 is smaller than what I am used to, I wanted a smaller size though as I had had enough of my "larger" phone.
I bought the Obsidian black version and all I will say is it is a massive fingerprint magnet, also it is one slippery bugger! More so than any other phone I have had, so a case for it is a priority.
There are a few of what I would call glitches, when turning the phone on from sleep the bottom third of the screen seems very faded before normalising, is that by design? I don't know.
Also talking of the screen it seems very dull, even at full brightness.
When putting the phone to sleep and then placing it on my wireless Google charger it wakes the phone back up the show the charging details and also the time date - The time date though are not how I had it set up, they are miss aligned - is there a setting to turn this off that I have missed somewhere? (I'm not talking about the always on display - I have that turned off)
Also the charging animations... wtf! Horrible! is there a way to turn that mess off?
So what are your first thoughts/initial impressions of your Pixel 7?
Anything little bugs/glitches that annoy you?
Anything you wish you could change?
Please share your thoughts below.

I had issues with the 6pro as well, bought it direct from Google the day after release.
Had multiple issues with it and Google said they thought I had a defective unit and to send it back to them and they would replace it.
However no replacement showed up and they then just refunded me.
After that little fiasco I went and bought a S21+ which is the phone I was using until today.

That's not so good
Overall I am happy with it, no major issues.
1. Face unlock seems slightly worse than the Oneplus 7T from 2019. Maybe I am mistaken as it has been a while since I used the Oneplus.
2. My screen protector doesn't make contact on the left top edge, I tried applying two. Not sure if it's the protector or phone screen. It is perfectly centered.
3. For some reason it can take a second or two to load after clicking the settings app shortcut in the quick settings menu.
4. Have had some reproducible touch sensitivity issues. Again, not sure if protector or phone but I did enable screen protector mode. Didn't have this issue with the P6.
5. Once again I have to manually force high refresh rate for Snapchat and some other apps.
6. Not sure if this is the case with the Pixel 6, but Snapchat is taking a picture of the viewfinder. Looks absolutely horrible in low light without the Gcam processing.
7. The unlock animation does not look high refresh rate.
It almost feels like I am dropping more frames navigating the UI than my Pixel 6. Although I did follow the optimization guide for the Pixel 6, so I have to do the same on the 7 and see if there is a change. This is something I feel like will probably be improved via updates, it is release day after all.
Also what do you mean by charging animations?
This phone genuinely feels like a Pixel 6 with face unlock (which should have been added to P6 via software update).
Also please share Geekbench 5 scores, I got 1010 Single-core, 2771 Multi-core. Was kinda hoping it would be higher considering the "leaked" multi-core was 4000.
Got a 75mb update and Geekbench is now 1048/3237 which is more in line with what I expected.

If my phone screen is turned off and I then place it on the google pixel charge stand the screen wakes and does some kind of animation, then shows the clock and charge status for a few seconds before turning off again.
I would love to be able to turn all of those animations off, they are horrible.
Mine is perfect. No issues whatsoever.

Try turning it on
I'm coming from a Pixel 3 XL, and I was expecting a nice upgrade, but wow, I feel like I went from a 1992 Ford pickup to a 2023 Honda Civic Type R. What a difference. From the build quality to the overall feel. It is just such a premium experience. I set it up about three hours ago, and have been playing with it for about the last two hours. This thing is perfect. And for about 1/2 the cost of my Pixel 3 XL at launch. I can see myself keeping this for the five years of security updates easy. Even if the battery starts losing charge I know I can get it replaced like I did my 3 XL, so no worries for the next five years. At least five years. Maybe more.

Mine did the same thing for the first 15 minutes or so. Rebooting helped, but it still disconnected twice. After it download all my apps (in between disconnects, so it took a long time), and I finished setting it up, the Wi-Fi has been steady strong. I guess it was new growin pains. it's been running flawlessly the past three hours.

I had the same issue. It wouldn't reconnect after either. Forgetting the wifi network and adding it back fixed the issue.
I bought it yesterday. I hooked up to my LG V60 and synced up everything. Really painless setup. Been steady using it. I love all the photo feature Google packs in the Pixel 7. I have had no disconnections of wifi or anything like that. Calls are clear. Really love the phone. I hate using it without a case and screen protector. But have that coming after the weekend. Got the Spigen rugged case from Amazon. My only gripe so far is the face unlock. It's a bit wonky. But the finger sensor works great.

Try to redo the Face Unlock. Hold it arms length, and in a bright light area. I did that the second time, and now even when I'm sitting at a desk, and the phone is laying on top, if I double tap the screen, the Face Unlock can see me, and it unlocks instantly.
EDIT - Oh, and the calls are excellent. My first three were crystal clear. Way better than my 3 XL. I'd say better than landlines.
Phone is very fast coming from a Pixel 3. I do have to say this thing is **** huge and brick heavy. The fingerprint reader is horrible compared to a dedicated rear reader. Camera seems pretty nice, that unblur gimmick isn't production ready.
I absolutely love the screen. Feels heavy, but I don't mind it as it feels solid and I think is built well. I miss the back/feel of the pixel 2, which I don't know if people even liked that lol. My fingerprint basically never works though haha maybe I'm just registering it poorly. Came from OnePlus 8T, really missed the AOSP feel.
.
I came from oneplus 8t and im in love with this pixel 7, android stock its really more beautiful than these chineses software(s) like oos12.
Face unlock is working as expected, working good except when im in a dark room with low light
My only issue for now is fingerprint scanner, it's working about 1 time on 10 i don't understand why but there's an high chance that's screen protector fault, since i did not even try without it. After the unboxing of the phone, the first thing i did was put screen protector on it then unlocked bootloader and rooted.
Except for FP Scanner, this device is amazing IMO, super fluid animation and transitions from activities. I bought it because i was tired of big screen device and for my needs the dimenions of the display are perfect.
Of course, compared to the oneplus 8t that have an amoled display, colors are better and more brilliant (on op8t) but i don't dislike OLED of the P7, maybe more safier for my eye rests
And i won't speak about comparisons of the FP scanner of these device since the one of op8t is working ALWAYS, never miss a try
My next thing to do is to try FP without any screen protector and if it's working well, to buy a new screen protector maybe better than the one i have installed
EDIT: another important thing: since is my first time with non-snapdragon device, i've noticed that this tensor G2 is working really good, always cool even with wifi-data-gps-bluetooth are on in a connected session with android auto on my car. Oneplus 8t heats up during same sessions but not the pixel 7

The screen is so good. When I first started using it I though it was a good upgrade from my 3 XL, but now after a couple days of using it, I played with the 3 XL, and wow, what a difference. If feels so light and flimsy, and the screen is so dull compared to the 7. And yes the 7 is very heavy compared to the 3 series, but it add that premium feel because of it (IMO). The entire 7's build is quality. I look at my 3 now, and it seems like a Fisher Price toy.
EDIT - Redo your fingerprints. Take your time and read what it asks. I see a lot of setups on YouTube, and they complain about the fingerprint reader, and when I watch them set it up they just spam their finger each time. It asks for a certain angle on some. Like first press normal, then the tip, then the left side, then the right side. I think a lot of people don't read what's asked each press, and then it doesn't work well for them.
The first couple of days coming from a pixel 4a ,,P7 is heavier but in a good way ,, feels premium, and so far I could not be happier ,everything is better than the 4a, sound is louder and crisper, screen more vibrant and faster scrolling, voice quality on calls are amazing, call reception has been excellent even on low bars, Have not noticed any lag with this chipset but then again Iam not a heavy user, Iam sure I will find more things better but so far 100 percent like it.
