Messages App Crashing - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys, Hopefully there is an answer to this... everytime i send and sometimes when i receive a sms message and then close the message app is comes up with Unfortunately, Messages has stopped.
So far I've tried factory reset(twice) and wiping messages data. Is there something I'm missing??

If you have it, turn off enhanced messaging in settings.

Facebook messenger notification issue

Hi guys, So yesterday for no apparent reason my phone decided that I did not need to get notifications from my facebook messenger app anymore. This is a pretty big issue for me as I use this app to communicate with a lot of people.
I honestly am at a loss as to what could caus ethis sudden stoppage and am hoping someone may know some trouble shooting steps that I havent tried. (I have wiped and reflashed ROM, uninstalled/reinstalled the app restored from an earlier nandroid) All my settings are the same as they have been and if I turn on the text messaging option I get notifications from the app for texts but still not for FB messages.
Help please!

Did you go into Settings>Apps and make sure that "Show Notifications" was checked for Facebook?

Switch to hangouts as your default SMS service in your settings. The messaging app is what wakes your phone. If you use hangouts it won't wake your screen.

Problems sending sms

Hi, how are you guys? I have the following problem. When I go to send a SMS, the message it wasn't show into the send SMS, and it wasn't sent. I have stock ROM 5.1.1 with ElementalX
I didn't notice the error before, I installed the ROM again on Saturday, and I saw the issue today when I tried to send a SMS.
Anybody else got this problem?

Check your APN settings are correct, sounds like you are missing something.

The aPN settings are ok. The problem looks that it's in the application. When I press send, the sms don't show up in the screen or there wasn't sended.
Just in case I deleted all the APN settings, and reinstalled all again, but the problem persist.
It's possible reinstall only the sms app?
The rom it's LMY48M.

Try installing Handscent or chomper and see if you get the same result. If your using the stock messenger, you can disable it and uninstall the updates but not uninstall the app.

In your apn settings check to make sure you have the correct mms proxy and mms port, also check your apn type mine is default, mms, supl but best to google the settings for your provider

Yes, the APNs are ok. I have two. One for Internet and another for MMS. I did a "Reset to default" and the information for each APNs are the same as the provider.
I had few problems with sms before as well and I just installed a different sms app (like Google Messenger) and made it default one. Everything worked fine after and it usually even looks better.

I can't see it being the kernel, I was running the same one but I flashed back to the stock one. Never had a problem sending sms on either though to be honest. Did you check your providers website to make sure it isn't on their end? Also can you receive texts?

Yes, the most strange it's that I can receive sms, for that reason today I realized of this issue. I received a sms and when I was to reply, I couldn't.
The kernel it's stable. I used it before and I could send a sms.
I hate to say it but maybe factory reset? clear both cache... if that isn't it..... reflash with stock kernel and see if that does it..... just dont flash userdata so you dont loose anything.... it sure sounds like a settings problem though... who is the provider?
Are you using Hangouts? I had this problem and then switched over to Messenger and its all good now. Might be a totally different issue, but maybe worth a shot.

Yes, I think so, but I don't want to jaja. I will try to go back to the stock kernel, and if that doesn't work, yes I will do a factory reset.

I disable Hangouts, but the problems still persist. You go to Apps > Hangouts and disable it? o you did something else?

So, it isn't that. neither the kernel. I have to do a factory reset. I will try with a TWRP BackUp, and if does not work, then I will do it.
I did a factory reset, and the problem was solved. Thanks to all!!!!

SMS issue with Google message app

Hi all,
I have a strange issue that I cannot solve.
I am using the Samsung standard messaging app and all is working perfect.
I wanted to test the Google messaging app so I installed next to the Standard Samsung one.
The problem is that in the Google app not all messages are showing. It is random and has nothing to do with people having Iphone or not.
And not all messages of the same threat are not showing up. Some do and some don't.
If I open the Samsung app all are present???
Any idea what the problem is?
Thank you
Maybe some of the messages in the samsung app are probably enhanced messages, meaning they were sent as data like an imessage. So when Google messages looks at your list of sms, it doesn't see those

Ok, I understand. But I thought that Google message had also enhanced messaging. Or am I wrong?
And how could I solve this?
Thank you in advance

Did you enable and register enhanced messaging service for Android messaging? Failing that try this. View attachment 4617783
