I had updated my moto x (xt1052) to 5.1 using ota (Asia retail). Then now downgraded to 4.4.4 without flashing the bootloader.. Now want to install stock 5.1. Can I update using ota zip file?? Is there any other methods??
Found a solution!!!
Not by official update.zip file (it is risky) by some other method

I flashed all the way back to stock using fastboot and mfastboot to the 1053 4.4.3 firmware. When I tried to install the 4.4.4 OTA, I received the EMMC error. I'm using a 1053 on AT&T. Could it be that I had flashed the AT&T 4.4.4 then going back to 4.4.3 that could be causing the error?

Yes. Downgrade is a no no. Post all details.
I was on stock 4.4.3 and flashed a pre-rooted 4.4.4 AT&T image in TWRP. I had read somewhere that the BL's were the same between the two versions. I didn't like the AT&T version, so I flashed back to 1053 4.4.3. The phone has been working just fine. Now, I can't upgrade to the 1053 4.4.4 OTA update. Should I just wait for the SBF file to become available?

A ROM flash doesn't equal a firmware downgrade. RSD going downward is the problem.
But once on a custom recovery you need to backup your virgin "rom" to save it for any future OTA!

Download your current version (look into "about phone"). Extract zip and flash boot.img through fastboot. But for ota to work, you have to do a full unroot in SuperSU settings.
yea...unfortunately i have to wait for motorola to release the fastboot files for 5.0.2 before i can leave the soak test because lol i couldn't wait for root and flashed the modified boot.img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/xt1064-lollipop-root-t2938051 and thats what keeping me from updating
i'd roll back to 4.4.4 using fastboot but i ended up with a hardbricked moto g doing that
Hi all, it's with great delight that I managed to get Lollipop on my Moto G thanks to the amazing XDA forums
So my problem started that I couldn't install the Lollipop OTA update because I had TWRP. I found the stock 4.4.4 image for the Moto G 2014 and followed instructions to flash everything from boot.img to recovery.img. After my phone was now in "stock" I was able to install the OTA update.
Now my question is: could I have just flashed the single stock file "recovery.img" and achieved the same effect? That would remove TWRP wouldn't it? Allowing for the OTA update to just work?
(asking because I don't want to have to go through all this again in the future as I'll have forgotten!)

Hi
Is it good to root 5.0? or shall I wait to 5.1?
what will happen if I rooted on Lollipop 5.0 the upgraded to 5.1 using OTA update? will it harm my device?
Is there a trusted/tested root for Moto X 2014 Lollipop 5.0?
If you are rooted you will need to do a clean install of 5.0 before accepting an OTA to 5.1 or the OTA will fail. The way I use to root is to flash a custom recovery and then flash SuperSU.

what do you mean by "good"? in what aspects? the answer will depend on how you want to use after root features.
AFAIK, you have to stock recovery installed before getting any OTA, they wont even downloaded if you have a custom recovery, so you have to use fastboot to install stock "recovery.img" before getting OTA.
I used CF-Auto root method, its safe and easy, but beware, you have to unlock bootloader first.

That's true. You can not downgrade, if you are on a light, official side. But if you want to try dark side - flash your Asia region 4.4.4 without "gpt" and "motoboot" lines in its XML file. Once flashed 4.4.4, you can take OTA 5.1 on it without any problem.
A message to future users. Being on 5.1.1, then downgrade to 4.4.4, and taking 5.1 OTA - will brick. Don't do that.
