From what I could find online the new Ethernet option is used when connecting a USB to Ethernet adapter. Is there any benefit to selecting this option while using USB tether without the adapter?

Hello, now making my USB OTG cable from nothing. Saw in the "USB Host Controller" 's settings that I can change "Operation mode" to either "Host" or "Client", not only "OTG". Does this mean that my device can enable its host capabilities without connecting the "right" OTG cable with 4&5 pins connected?
Yes. OTG mode only means it will detect the operation mode automatically.

I made a few of these cables, OTG and audio line outs (fun with resistors had me soldering and making cables for a week lol)
USB Host Controller is just a helper app, You still need to short the pins for the cable to work, as well as making it a "powered" cable since the cappy wont power OTG compatible devices that need it.
I recently bought an USB OTG cable and a USB 2.0 to Fast Ethernet Adapter off of eBay. The OTG cable works fine with my mouse and keyboard, but the ethernet adapter does not work with the OTG cable. Does the P7 support ethernet via USB, or maybe is it the ethernet adapter's problem?
Thanks!
well, I was wondering, if it is possible to turn this phone in a dhcp server for a LAN using an usb to lan adapter.
I have bough a cheap adapter and it comes with a driver for android, so if someone knows how, or can point me to a manual or similar I would be grateful.
also just in case, I tried connect the adapter to the phone but it isn't detected. (expected result).
going to add the files listed in the folder of driver for android of the adapter is a CH9200 USB Ethernet Adapter driver
thanks for reading.
Just curious how it ended up with the usb lan adapter.
Any update on this ?

I want to buy some USB to ethernet adapter to be able to connect my OnePlus3 to internet in places where there is no WiFi but there is an ethernet socket. But I heard that not every adapter works.
So my question is ,which are the supported USB to ethernet adapters for OnePlus3?
I tried my Ugreen USB 3.0 to Gigabit Ethernet + USB combo that i use for my mibox 3.
The adapter worked. Obviously i had to enable otg storage on settings and also had to use a USB C to USB dongle to connect the Ethernet adapter.
Hope this helps.
