Hi All,
I got the Nexus 6 a few weeks ago and I like it pretty well though I'm having a hard time figuring out how to work it lol. One major thing I'm not understanding - it seems to have no picture storage in the phone itself that I can find. Is this correct? There's no "Gallery" or anything - all I can get into is my google photos. Which would be okay I guess except that not everything saves to Google Photos. For example:
Last night I took a picture with the camera app I use (Camera 360) and edited it in another app (don't remember which one - it was an in memory pic so I just needed to add some text). Anyways, I saved it and it said it was saving to the phone, however, it's not anywhere in the google photos. I couldn't find it anywhere. But then when I went to Facebook it popped up in my options to upload a photo. So it has to be saving somewhere!
I also have a lot of issues with photos from Camera 360, Instagram, FB, and other apps doing the same thing - they'll show in my FB options or if I click within the Camera 360 app on the preview area but they don't show in Google Photos or anywhere else on the phone.
Can anyone explain this to me please?
Thanks!

Did you set Google Photo`s to backup all pics and video`s in the cloud? Have you checked /sdcard/DCIM/Camera/?

No. I don't really use the cloud. I want to be able to access everything physically on the phone if possible but I'll look into that too.
I thought it didn't have an SD card slot so how to I check what you said at the end there? If there's no SD card then how would it be saving to an SD Card? Sorry... I'm not the brightest with this kind of thing.

Get a file manager from Google Play and look for /sdcard/DCIM/Camera and your pics etc should be there.

Okay thanks! So what do I do then? Do I just use that file manager going forward every time I want to access my pictures? What I'm trying to figure out is how I can view/display/transfer my photos going forward. Should I download a gallery app?

I actually had that on my last phone and liked it but there was a weird glitch on my old phone where it wouldn't let me delete anything. Even if I deleted pics from the phone gallery they would still show in QuickPic. Then if I tried to delete them in there it gave me a weird error. I could probably try it on the new phone again here though!
I did download the file manager and that seems like it will work perfect.

Well then the problem is solved
Isn't there is device folder at the left side of the menu in the google photo app. I usually find all the picture there, screenshoot and stuff like that.

Do consider backing it up to the cloud. That way, if your phone dies or gets lost/damaged, you won't be stuck trying to figure out how to recover your pictures. Google Photos app gives you unlimited storage for your photos (just don't choose "original resolution"). The photo/video will still be there on your phone, but will have a backup on the cloud.

Yes, I do the same. Tap the menu icon on the left side of Goole Photos App, and then tap "Device Folders",
This will show OP all the local camera photos in DCIM, as well as any screenshots/downloads, etc

Hmm. I'm confused. Maybe I do this and just didn't know it was called the cloud? Right now my photos from my last like 4 phones are in my "Google Photos" and I can access them all on any phone I've had, on the computer, etc. So they're already stored in Google Photos?

Go to photos.google.com and sign in with your google account. See if your photos are showing there. If yes, then you are good - they are being backed up. You can verify the settings in the photos app on your phone too - settings/backup and sync. Verify that it is on, and that upload size is high quality (or you can choose original - but that will not be unlimited)

Hey everyone,
this has been mentioned for other devices as well, however, I did not find a way to make this work yet. I would like to have my Picasa Albums show in the Gallery. In Account/Sync settings of my phone, I can select "Sync Google Photos" (whatever that means?), but there is no "Sync Picasa" option.
What I want to achieve is my Picasa Albums showing in the gallery. Ideally including the option to only sync them on Wifi, and select which Albums I would like to be able to have available offline - top notch option would be to select an image size to use for offline storage as well, cause I obviously wouldn't like to have the full 4 MB or more image resolution on my phone storage.
Any ideas?
Best regards,
Hendrik

Yes, seems like it - but there doesn't seem to be an "offline sync" feature, which I really would like to have...there are a lot of areas here where there is only poor data coverage.
I cant get the phone to stop automatically selecting photos it deems highlights from any album on my phone.
I uncheck the highlight from custome albun it was moved to, delete it from highlights album... Within the hour the phone has added it back in.
Please God someone help... This is a GIANT PRIVACY ISSUE

If I'm correct it highlights the pictures you click on (view) the most it's not a privacy issue since it doesn't even transmit the data to HTC or anyone else. It happens to me too from time to time.
So a highly connected device moving files from a protected location to a shared location by itself is not a privacy issue?

It doesn't move the location of the picture, it just links it to a folder in the gallery for quick viewing access. That's all.

I see what big is talking about though. If someone is looking at his phone, someone might see pictures they weren't intended to see that would otherwise be hidden from view.

Then un highlight them? If you say it keeps highlighting photos you don't want to be highlighted then it'd probably be a good idea to go into settings>apps>all>media storage and clear the data from it, as well as the gallery app. Then do a reboot and let the gallery settle
This also drives me crazy. I'm constantly un-highlighting my photos and there's no way to turn that feature off

Then hide the highlighted album?

BTW I completely deleted the highlights album. 2 days later it had rebuilt itself, and pulled photos on my phone again from wherever it liked.

This.
I did this on my first day. In the settings of the gallery app, go to hide albums, and check the albums you want to hide.
This is actually a cool feature and it's even cooler that you can opt out of it. I see no privacy concerns at all. If someone is looking at your pics, your entire gallery is there for them to flick through.... unless you are seriously concerned with someone knowing which pictures you look at most frequently... in that case, don't let people get to your phone.
EDIT: I just realized how angry my post sounded... that was not intentional. I hope I didn't come off as a jerk!
Does the highlight album take up storage space?
This is a privacy issue...My highlighted photos go up on Twitter. I don't even post any personal pics on Twitter, or face book.
I'm very pissed with this auto feature. If I wanted someone to see them I'd post them.
How do u permanently turn it off. ????
Now, I want to backup my "albums" automatically, or as soon as a picture is added to them. Now, I have dropbox instant upload etc.. but those types apps only upload a new camera capture or screenshot. I'm looking for something that will do this, but will also save the other pictures in my "album" which include MMS pictures saved to "album". received pictures through facebook etc... Or is there no such app and I must manually transfer these off my phone?
Thanks

There s apps for External Cloud Storage that instantly backup every media in ur phone into ur personal cloud
like seagate, western digital and etc.
remote cloud server like google.drive or box, dropbox & etc are limited to some kind of backup.
:good:

Do you have saved MMS/Facebook pictures on your phone? Does it backup these too? IThe app pages suggests is only backs up your camera roll (photos taken/screenshots).
Ok, so a few days ago, I removed my SD card and transferred all media files to a lap top and then moved them onto a new 256GB SD card of the same brand...now, a few pics do not show and now, when I take a pic, some of them do not show up in the Gallery, i just get a big Exclamation Point....anybody know what the issue is and how to fix it? Thanks
You need to force refresh your media store. Look for a media scanner type app on GP

Didn't work. I'm starting to think that I got a defective SD card. Unless something in my settings got changed, but I didn't change anything between swaps.
Figured out the problem....it was fake...I contacted the seller and told him I was having issues and that my card might be defective, and within an hour, had a full refund. I feel pretty damn naive...i'm usually pretty cautious when buying things on eBay....i should have known better...price was too good.
I am not getting collage suggestions after upgrade to Pie?
Is this feature gone from Gallery app?
It's still here but you have to swipe down in the gallery app to reveal more categories.
I notice when I had Oreo that all those features (same on Google photos) are not available when pictures are saved on a SD card. What a shame. So I removed it.
I wonder if it's the same on Pie?
All I see is Stories. No collages.

When in app, swipe down to bring down more options.
Automatic collages will be in the "suggested" one.

Yes, I found them there a few times when I took newly similar pictures.
The drawback is that if you save/store your pictures on a SD card it won't work at all, and the same goes for Google photo (don't know why).

I occasionally get notifications from Google photos about Rediscover this day 4 years ago etc..but not for collages for my stored Google cloud images. I manually backup to Google photos periodly.
My camera roll pics are stored on sd card. And yes you're right it doesnt work.
