When I bought note 5 I saw that there is implemented security software in smart manager. I don't know if it's good enough and does works in the background. I already have avg Antivirus pro bought from playstore when I used my previous phone, so my question is can I install avg alongside the security app in smart manager or no,because I relate to Windows problem with 2 Antivirus software working together are causing problems and I don't know if that's the case in Android too.

These anti-virus apps really have minimal use. Yea, they'll back up your data and what not but they're not the equivalent to what anti-virus software is on the computer. I have never used one on any of my devices. Just be careful of what apk's you download that aren't from the market.
I download apk's only from playstore and from Samsung store. I don't know much how Antivirus apps for Android works but in avg app that I have there is something that protect me while I am surfing the Internet, so I don't know what to do and does it have some real protection or is just gimmick.

hi,
Firstly, my attitude was also that i did not care /worry about Antivirus on my Android phone.
About 2 year's ago i started realizing and understanding the security and
increase in malware on Android. I have been using Nortons on my laptop, for many years
Further, i was happy, overall with product and always renewing 5 times x any computer /device subscription.
As i had spare subscription left, i included my Android device.
Since then i had used my Antivirus 360 subscription (Nortons) on my phone.
I must admit my attitude changed.
It helped me quite a few times when
surfing the web (malicious attacks?, phishing, bad ratings etc)
It also gves me a risk rating on each app in Play store etc( adverts, battery drainer etc) before i install. Even when sometimes sideloading it scans relevant app before installation. Also can block calls and Sms (same as stock system )
So i got my own Antivirus running on my Note5 with the included system
one, not enabled at all (only one Antivirus.. and i am no refering to Knox etc)
Battery wise, no excessive battery drainage or app been intrusive.
I have change my mind about Antivirus on Android and can only say with increased security risks, i do
need " something "
It's your choice
good luck
Antivirus for android are more like bloatwares because android is linux based OS so no risks of viruses. Only thing you should care for is your data.

hi,
Only Norton antivirus ,system one is disabled .You can install Antivirus (of your choice ? ) and it will work fine. Just remember that if you activated the system Antivirus (not Knox).. i recommend you disable system one... if enabled. Take a look at screenshots.. it should explain a lot.. remember it just not all about virus etc. There is a lot more to it...malware web protection etc... etc The screenshots should also tell you this...!
Good luck
Thank you

hi,
Look at my last screenshot (Smart manager app) , what does your Smart manager say, deactivated or activated ..?
If it says deactivated (like my screenshot) , then don't worry, just install you Antivirus of choice.
Good luck
It's already activated and there isn't a button to deactivate. And in the app manager under all applications I can't find it. ?

hi, Further if you can't find it, just install you Antivirus of choice,
If there is a conflict it should show up. I personally don't think it should give errors. if it does just uninstall your new installed Antivirus. Then you have to most probably Google around to see where its location is on device.
I presume you are stock Rom? not rooted and with Knox not tripped?
I'm stock, not rooted and Knox is not activated. I didn't find the McAfee app, or something Antivirus in application manager. But as you suggest I'll install my avg pro and give it a try. Thank you again.

hi,
yes I agree, i cannot really see it causing issues. I had on my laptop at one stage also 2 x different Antivirus installed and activated. Had no issues at all. Also i am guessing it could be Mc affee, as i vaguely read something to that effect.. but I think I am wrong!
Maybe its just part of Smart manager functions checking for malware.
I would not really "worry" about any issues. or conflicts.
As you stated, jut install AVG pro and if any issues, post in this thread,
I am sure we'll sort it out.!
Good luck.
Anti virus on an android is not worth the resources or battery time. If you only download from the market. Don't go to shady sites. Or install funny looking apks. You will not get a virus.

hi ,
i also had similar attitude as you at one stage ,but change it ..
In my case i installed Nortons 360 Premier for a reason .
Its does more than just what you stated above .( take a look at my screenshots )
I don't ( your words )..."Don't go to shady sites. Or install funny looking apks. "
All my apks is paid apps from Google Play store or Amazon .!!!
or some are just Beta apks, i subscribed /test (for a dev. re an app )
But i do use the internet and read or Google ,( eg if want want to know more about an issue )
I do click on links to follow relevant info i was Googling or reading .......etc etc .
Further eg . 'Stagefright " was spread by MMS ....not, going to your words again ....... "Don't go to shady sites. Or install funny looking apks. "
Bottom line ...
i like to have something called " peace of mind "
if somebody wants to install Antivirus on his phone.....?
i do understand he wants "peace of mind "!!!!
If you happy with your setup /device and don't use an Antivirus.. ...good ,is your choice ..!!
Today' s Antivirus software does much more than just look for a "virus " !
good luck

Well your average thief might just scratch their head and give up on the phone but if they know someone who knows about android, such as one of many of the forum members here, they still get your phone. All they have to do is flash it back to stock.
The only thing these type of apps are good for, imo, is protecting your personal data. Even then there is no protection for the data on the sd card.
Desire HD has built in anti theft service. Just go to htcsense.com and register. It is really complicated to remove this from phone
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Have you ever tried htcsense.com? the locate system hardly works and the site is often down. Theft Aware works clean.
hint: to uninstall it, you first need to remove the device admin setting of theft aware in your phone settings. then it's just like any other app to uninstall

For everyone who knows a bit about the phone it would be child's play to remove the protection.
but if you can password protect the bootloader/recovery it is safe...
Anyway the mainstream user doesn't know about theft aware.
Most of the "thiefs" or lucky ones would do a hard reset.
And if you have a rooted phone, theft aware ist still on the phone.
And maybe they put another sim card in the phone and you got the phone number.

This is really Good. I bought it and it works like a charm. I got Theft Aware, Smi Card Checker, Cerberus all together for added protection. I feel it is worth it when you spend so much for a Phone. Spending a mere 3% of the cost of your phone for these is definitely worth it.

I do not know why people answer post without any knowledge. Child play to remove it?
If you lock phone setting – the app cannot be installed
If the phone is root – hard reset does not remove the app, USB debug is unable, etc..
Of course, if you hack the password code, are able to unroot the phone, flash a stock rom, etc... you will remove this app. Childish stuff
I do not have any connection with this app, I am just considering purchasing a security app and so far this is my favourite. Theft Aware may be not perfect but please tell me if you find any better (and cheaper).
Hi...
There are so many Anti theft applications on the Android market.
Each seem to have some pros and cons.
Ultimately it all boils down to choosing the best of the lot.
Which one would you recommend ?.
I am told that in most cases the safeguards or protection
offered by these apps can be bypassed or neutralized
by hard resetting the phone or formatting it.
Appreciate your comments.
Thanks
Avast anti theft.... It's free and supports root installation (hard reset surviving)
I got Cerberus. Has some nice features I really like - and I always use the alarm when I can't remember where I last layed it down to find it
Am using the full version of F–Secure because it came with the phone. Have only tested it but no complaints.
I think the abti–theft part is free from the Play Store.
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
I use cerberus, flashed trough Rom Manager. Lots of nice functions.
you can hide it from the applist and the flashed version can withstand a factory reset, sd formatting, not only a full wipe if I'm not mistaken.

But the big question is - Can the safeguards or security features be bypassed or neutralized
by the persons who steal the phone ?. Eg: hard reset, format the phone etc.
It has hard reset surviving but no anti-theft software can survive against a rom change

Cerberus all the way for me. Low memory footprint, can do a lot of stuff remotely, and got it for free when they had a promo. But I would've bought it nevertheless.

I did a read of the website with forums FAQ and all.
Lots of success stories.
But there is no mention anywhere about the weak points.
Such as how total is the protection offered by the App.
Smartphone thieves are very technical. They know most of the techniques to disable security stuff..
Unless the person who stole it or found it just a naive user himself.
I am also using Cerberus. Its got a lot of useful features such as SIM Checker & the option to wipe internal memory & sd card just in-case. They even offer a week free trial, just give it a try and if you like you can buy. Cerberus anti theft

Actually avast does everything that Cerberus does, except for controlling via website, and it's free! It hides itself and also uses a costume name so anyone who doesn't know can't find it in the applist. Wich is really good. And If you decide to uninstall the antivirus part of the app you only reach the ui of the anti-theft by dialing a pin that you have chosen. (yes its seperated into 2 apps) It also survives wipe and and Cyanogenmod ROM flashes!
Also got some other features like firewall.
Cerberus>all
I use prey http://preyproject.com
Had my macbook stolen and managed to lock it down, wipe any sensitive info and track it / get pictures of the thief. Got it back and the theif got prosecuted. Can't ask for better than that!
After reading this thread I have gone for Cerberus.
I like this - "If you have rooted your device you can integrate Cerberus into your ROM and get two additional features: complete uninstall protection (Cerberus will even survive a wipe/factory reset) and GPS auto-enabling even on Android 2.3.3 and later"

Just do what I did, I froze the same ones that I froze on my note 4, then the ones that were in question I just disabled one at a time using my tablet for a while to make sure nothing was screwy. Will disabling apps help with battery life? I don't have much problem with lag but I would like to extend batter life
In theory, it should. what I mean is disabling an app that you never used will do nothing for battery, but if you disable say, a Samsung app such as Knox or a Samsung app updater, keeping it from using system resources you should see improvement . The problem with comparing battery stats is you would have to use your tablet in the same area using the same apps for the same amount of time every day. That's why you see some user's of custom Roms saying battery life sucks while others say that it's great, apple's to apple's and so on .

Ok I just wanted to say that this tool is really worth it if you don't want to root (lost of warranty). It is possible to disable a lot of crap, hence more free RAM. I froze more than 100 so called apps and my RAM is around 1.2GB with 0 active applications. I also froze all the apps related to knox and I do feel the tablet is faster. It did not trip Knox.
Actually I wonder if it might be a way to bypass Knox to root, install a custom recovery and so on... If someone wants to root his tablet anyway (no care about the warranty), it would be great to try to freeze Knox first to see if it works. I'm sure it would help the community a lot !

Does anyone know what package disablers work with the Note 9, it's been a year a so since I was with Samsung and package disabler appears to have disappeared from the Play Store.
Can I get it somewhere else? does it work with the Note 9?
It works but it also gets removed from Play Store periodically then it gets reinstated. People who purchased it its earlier reincarnations need to purchase it again, assuming they need to reinstall, if more than 6 months have passed. Needless to say a lot people feel peeved off (and rightly so) by the developer's attitude.

Not sure about ADB, only time I've used ADB is for flashing recovery, I wouldn't know where to start.
I've disabled everything I can manually, although there are a few not sure about, after checking the play store via chrome package disabler pro is still available but not for the Note 9, annoying because I'm pretty sure I have the Pro version.
Also somewhat unrelated, why does the software on the Note 9 have such difficulty closing down background apps? even when you explicitly selected them to not run in the background, an hour or so later it's still active and using battery. :silly:

Maybe try and contact them?
Just in case someone needs the full tutorial for using ADB to uninstall a system app, check this link:

If you're not familiar with it,it's worth your while to read everything.
It's not complicated if you're used to using command prompts/ADB,however,be warned that if you delete,it's actually just hidden from the user, but, once you do this,it can't be recovered/accessed/re-installed unless you factory reset (less root access,of course).
The article/tutorial states as much, but,we're all human & at times,TLDR.......... :good:
