Hi all, I have had this bug in varying flavours with both the Wizard and now the Kaiser.
If I make a call via Bluetooth (certain devices only e.g. JVC in car stereo), after the call, all audio is lost on the device when using the speaker, e.g. no ringtones, no TomTom voice guidance. (Oddly the touchtone sounds on the phone dialler continue to work.)
Making another call via Bluetooth works fine and all audio is heard, but not if calling via the earpiece of the phone - all phone audio is still muted. A reboot is required. (Even after a reboot, sometimes all audio is muted, and 2 or 3 reboots are required.)
It is like Bluetooth is 'stealing' the audio from the phone's speaker (which is should), but not giving it back at the end, however turning off Bluetooth doesn't return it.
It happens with WM6.x on the TyTN II.
If you can fix it either via a workaround (reboot the audio service after every call?) or a direct fix (HTC are useless and have not emailed me back), I will pledge you $100 via PayPal. I am sure others will join me in pledging an amount also.
Yes. I've seen the same thing with the last stock Tilt ROM, too.
Same here. But is not happening very often.
The other issue for me is if I have A2DP enable and listening to music, then making a phone call will drop the A2DP connection and I have to reconnect A2DP again. It happens to both my JVC car unit and Sony HBH DS220.
I tried that w/ Dutty's WM6.0 and the latest 6.1 rom
I have the same issue, with bluetooth disconnects.
Just staying on-topic here (you can solve A2DP issues with A2DPToggle a great free app), has anyone found a solution to this Bluetooth loss of speaker audio issue, or a workaround to avoid it happening?
Rebooting the phone after every Bluetooth phone call is hardly what I consider a high-end smartphone to require.
Same here
What Radio's are you guys running? (Ignore my signature for the moment, been phoneless and away from here for a while and just getting back up to date )
Haz
My current radio is 1.64.08.21.
I have also tried 1.64.06.04.
Could we be closer to finding the problem? Does the Radio contain the Bluetooth stack?
Here are all available Radios:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Radio
I'm going to try 1.58.26.20 now. I suggest others try the other 1.5x variants and report back if any of them solve the bug.
Update: I am now offering $100 to anyone who can fix this - see 1st thread.
I have used Windows Mobile since the first ever SPV phone. This one issue is making me look seriously at abandoning that loyalty and getting a Blackberry. If I can fix this for $100 I could be tempted to stay however.
Have you tried BT Audio Toggle ? (found at http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/sams...luetooth-headset.html?perpage=20&pagenumber=1)
Maybe if this helps with your problem then a mortscript could be written to automatically run the utility after a phone call.
What bluetooth headset do you have? Have you tried other headsets or just the one you have? What version of 6.1 are you using?
Thanks, I'll give the audio toggle a go. Might need some help with Mortscript though
I am using the JVC KD-BT1 car stereo with Bluetooth in-car kit. However I can also lose audio on a clean boot even when not in the car, although that is very rare. When using it with the car stereo, it happens after almost every call.
I am running Sleuth's WM6.1 but the other people in this thread are using a variety of BT devices, ROMs, and HTC models.
Can anyone help with how to create a MortScript to run BTAudioOff.exe after each phone call?
Flash a NIKI radio. I had a similar issue with my JVC in-dash CD player and I just got all the radios and tried them all. All the NIKI radios seem to work a lot of the time, while some work and others don't.

Okay I tried this and before I even got in the car, chose to turn Bluetooth Audio off using the toggle. Since then I cannot recreate the issue! I am not having to toggle after every call, I only did it once and the problem won't come back!
Fingers crossed...
NP. 1 more thing. What do you mean all audio is lost? Do you mean that the auido goes through the bt device? Or just that there is no audio coming from either at all. If that's the case, then all you might have to do is go to Comm Manager>Settings>Bluetooth>JVC (or whatever you named it) and uncheck the Stereo sound and viola it should work unless you are not using A2DP >.> . I think it's either directing all sound to your bt device or trying to send sound to it but failing.

The issue is there is no audio coming from either the phone or the Bluetooth device. I hear the Bluetooth device disconnect, and its display shows that it has also.
I see no 'Stereo' option to untick for the JVC in its Bluetooth settings, only Hands-free and Wireless Stereo (already unticked).
No progress
Okay, this is seriously getting me down now It all sounded so promising. I have tried the following:
Flashed Niki Radio 1.58.21.23
Tried using Bluetooth Toggle - it seemed to work once when I turned BT off before connecting, but after a reboot the problem is back
Tried a HFP extension PM'd to me (thanks anyway - didn't help)
Made sure Bluetooth Stereo is unticked in the JVC's settings on the phone
I am not sure if the problem is worse when taking a call as TomTom is running.
Here is an interesting development which might help someone narrow down the cause:
I make a few calls, and as always audio is lost, even for phone calls sometimes.
Touchtones on the keypad are the only sound that the phone continues to emit itself. Everything else (TomTom, ringtones, etc.) is dead.
I then go into the JVC's A2DP mode and 'Connect'. The icon appears on the mobile's title bar, and I can hear phone audio through the car stereo.
I 'Disconnect' and the phone's audio is still lost.
What this tells us is that the phone is putting out sound, just not through the speaker.
If someone can write something that will reset the speaker driver after a call, my offer for $100 still stands.
Just to update this, the issue still exists with a clean install of HTC's new 2-May-08 WM6.1 ROM from their website. To***rs!
CJSnet,
Since we got the similar setup w/ exact the same issue (Att Tilt w/ JVC BT-1), I think the problem is basically Kaiser does not switch back to A2DP profile properly after headset profile from phone call. The same issue happens to my Sony HBH DS-220 stereo headset too.
I tried my Eten M600 w/ JVC BT-1 and does not see this problem
Stuttering and skipping streaming are very known issues on many jelly bean devices.
The most times when I listen to music in my car, i do this via bluetooth. So it is really annoying me and some day, I will have an accident, while I am fumbling with my HTC One.
I replaced the audio.a2dp.default.so with one of the Nexus 4 (4.2.2) and it just worked well, but only the first time using bluetooth streaming after rebooting the device.
I changed some settings in audio.conf and it still stutters.
But then, i deactived wifi while the device was streaming and all stuttering and skipping was gone.
So... can someone just confirm, whether the a2dp streaming works correctly, when wifi is deactived?
I want to know, whether this is the only point to get this work and I don't want to change my working mess
is nobody interested in this?
I posted this bluetooth issue a while back on this forum, and the issue is corrected by switching off WIFI while using BT. Apparently the new update which is due soon fixes the issue but only one user has confirmed that so far.
Since I use bluetooth streaming on the car mainly, I use Tasker so that when Bluetooth connects, it automatically switches WIFI off (don't need WIFI while driving and saves battery), and when it disconnects it switches it back on. This way the phone just works seamlessly.
Just turning the wifi off and back on again when I connect bluetooth seems to solve this issue for me.
i can confirm - turning wifi on/off fixes it as well for me (until next time I go bluetooth)
I discovered this a couple of weeks ago too. I was about to send it back too. Cant live without podcasts and audible in the car!
I have the problem that i cant even here any sound on my HTC CAR A100 Car Stereo Clip, even if wlan is deactivated With my old sensation everything is okey..

I wonder if this also improves the bitpool value. I'm noticing on my HTC One that bluetooth streaming quality is not very good. From what I've read it has to do with a bitpool value that it set too low, increasing this value is supposed to increase the streaming quality. Highs sound distorted on my phone over BT I can't believe Google/HTC have not addressed this issue.
I have not been able to solve the bluetooth audio streaming issue by turning off WiFi for my car. It works perfectly fine with my Jambox even with WiFi turned on, but in the car, it does not work either way and I'm using software version 1.29.401.13

Did you manage to fix the problem with the A100 as mine is exactly the same, works fine on my Sensation but no the HTC One.
have the same problem:
If wifi is ON and bluetooth is ON, eg at streaming youtube over the bluetooth headset, it stutters and has distortions.
If wifi is OFF and stream a video from the sdcard over bluetooth all is fine.
what i find out:
I use the JellyBean from Quarkx for defy.
The build from 7.3.2013 worked
All later builds, with the new wifi driver had this problem.
But its a known bug that JellyBean has a2dp issues, i guess.
This trick, to change audio.a2dp doesnt helped me
I didn't noticed any problem with my phone even when the wifi ON, I'm using the latest radio "4A.16.3250.24_10.38.1150.03L" found in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245615
I don't know if it can help..
I searched this forum and didn’t see any posts related to this issue directly, please direct me to any existing threads if I may have missed them. Sorry for the length of post, but I wanted to be as detailed as possible to fully explain the issue.
I am having some issues with the Bluetooth connections that I use in my car. I had this setup working previously on my Droid Razr Maxx with no issues, and was really hoping it would carry over to my Moto X.
I use Tasker in my car and have several profiles setup based on my Bluetooth connection state. When I enter my car, I connect to my General Motors Bluetooth for hands free calling. This connection works without issue. I also have a small USB powered Bluetooth audio receiver that converts the Bluetooth stream to a 3.5mm cable and goes into the radio deck for audio. It was a pretty cheap dongle that I got on eBay. It doesn’t have a brand name on it, but it comes up in my phone as “dmzmusic”. I’ve never had any major issues with it before, other than on occasion it fails to turn on when the car starts, but shutting the car off and turning it back on again works fine.
Last week I had my phone in a basically stock 4.4 state. Not rooted, nothing changed, etc. When I would get in the car, General Motors Bluetooth connected just fine. I did not happen to take any phone calls last week, so I’m not sure about how well that was working. I’ll get to this in a minute. My other connection for dmzmusic seemed to connect and then very quickly disconnect. This was evidenced by my Tasker profile launching Pandora, which it is supposed to do when it connects to dmzmusic. However, Pandora immediately exited again, and when I went to the Bluetooth settings, only General Motors was connected. If I tapped on dmzmusic in the list of paired devices, it connected and worked fine.
Over the weekend I rooted my Moto X with SlapMyMoto, which was quite a long process, but in the end, I was rooted and all was well. This morning, I got in my car and re-paired both devices mentioned above. When the Tasker profile fired for dmzmusic, I watched it launch Pandora, and then close it within a few seconds (there is an exit task to kill Pandora). It did this cycle three times, and then apparently stopped trying. As with before, I tapped on the connection and it worked fine. It launched Pandora, music played my whole way to work, and Pandora was killed when I arrived at work.
Now, back to the General Motors issue. Today when I was driving to work in the lovely Minnesota weather, my boss called to see where I was. My music paused, but my radio deck did not show an incoming call on the screen. I pressed the hands-free answer button, but it didn’t work. I picked up the phone and swiped right to answer, but it didn’t come through on Bluetooth. So I started talking on the handset, and after about 30 seconds, it connected to the radio and hands-free worked. When I was done with the call Pandora and music resumed, as it should.
So my question is, has anyone else had any issues with hands free Bluetooth, and/or any issues when using a hands-free device AND a media only device? In the Bluetooth settings, my General Motors connection only has the option for phone. The dmzmusic device has phone and media, but I have unchecked phone so it’s set to media only, if that makes any difference.
I know it’s a somewhat unique situation, but it’s really annoying that it doesn’t work. Tonight I am going to test having a few seconds delay on the Pandora task to see if that helps the repeat cycle that it did this morning.
Thanks!

Yup... My Dev GSM Moto X on 4.2.2 connected just fine to my Mazda for both Phone and A2DP everytime I entered or exited the car. With 4.4, I'd have to manually go into Bluetooth and have the phone connect to the car. Very annoying... Haven't had that happen since ICS days.. Might have to downgrade to 4.2.2 again just to make this go away.
Bluetooth working fine on 4.4 with my Hyundai Elantra. Phone and A2DP. Maybe try repairing?

Thanks. I wasn't able to test it on 4.2.2 (it took right away OTA out of the box) with my Moto X, but it was working fine on my Droid Razr Maxx on 4.1.2 Jelly Bean before I got the Moto X.
I will have to try and see how it works with just the A2DP device without the handsfree. I rarely ever talk on the phone, and with the Touchless Controls I could call people and just pick up the phone. Or turn the phone portion back on for the A2DP device so the sound would come through my speakers but I'd still have to use the mic on my phone...
Still annoying. Thanks again for the reply.

Both pair automatically together when you enter the car?
I can get them to coexist, but I have to manually add the A2DP device. The car radio (General Motors) connects fine, but the A2DP cycles and then gives up, it seems.
I will try pairing them in a different order, and temporarily disabling or adding a wait clause to my Tasker profile to see if it works without that.
Thanks,
I have a Dension BT gateway for my car that provides BT audio and hands free. My phone connects automatically as long is bluetooth is turned on. I also connect to a BT OBD2 adapter sometimes, and I tried it today, and I kept playing Pandora via BT and also connected to the OBD2 adapter and had data going from both of them.

Yeah, but they aren't a separate connection I don't think. Pretty sure the one connection handles both.
Seems to be an issue with the A2DP device specifically. I unpaired my car and the dmzmusic device and repaired them both, same result. I added just the dmzmusic, and got the same thing.
I changed my Tasker profile to just flash a toast message to show it connecting and disconnecting instead of firing Pandora to see if that mattered and it didn't. I did not try disabling the Tasker actions entirely to see if that worked.
I have a pair of Bluetooth headphones at home that I may try as well to see if it will connect to those. They fire the same task as the dmzmusic does to launch Pandora when they connect, and kill it when they disconnect.
Hoping this gets fixed, because it's VERY annoying.
Is it possible to submit this to Google/Moto as a bug if it is a larger problem with all A2DP devices?
But it's not a problem with all A2DP devices. Works fine with both my 2013 Hyundai Elantra and my Jaybird Freedom buds.

Thanks. I will try it with the Philips bluetooth headphones as well. The device in my car is pretty cheap. I don't know what version of Bluetooth it has, but it was only about $5. Anyone know of a similar device that can receive a Bluetooth audio signal and convert it to 3.5mm, and is powered by USB?

Well I sort of solved this. There's an app in the Play Store called Bluetooth Auto Connect. This can connect to bluetooth devices with a set of conditions and states, and works as a plug-in to Tasker. I told it to connect to dmzmusic upon connection to any other bluetooth device (in this case, my General Motors hands free). Worked perfectly. Thought you'd like to try it out for your dual device setup.
However, I also have a new issue. It seems the reason my phone call wasn't on bluetooth at first was due to some sort of connection issue with the General Motors unit. While driving home tonight, every few minutes my car radio said Connected. And every time I turned the car screen on to thumb up a song on Pandora, it flashed Connected to a trusted device. Which implied to me that it was disconnecting periodically. No idea why it would do this. Didn't see any setting for it in bluetooth, and battery saver isn't on.
Anyone seen something like this? Will try tomorrow without the trusted device settings to see if that matters....
I noticed a similar auto-connect issue with mine, when I was attempting to troubleshoot the stuttering A2DP issues I'm having. If I have the HFP and A2DP profiles both enabled, they both connect right up when the ignition is on. If I have the HFP profile disabled, and only A2DP enabled, it doesn't connect right away and I usually have to manually force it. Very strange. This whole BT situation on this phone has been a pretty big disappointment for me, since I had everything working great with my GNex (running 4.3) and now it's like I've lost the heart of my car audio system.
I bought the Kinovo BT dongle for my wife for Christmas, so it will be interesting to see how that works with her Moto X. I'm pretty excited about trying out the AptX encoding for lossless audio, but I doubt she will even notice the difference.
Just to give you an update.. I downgraded to 4.2.2 and it connects to my Mazda automatically just fine.. Upgraded to 4.4 and the problem returns.. No apps.. Stock + root. Keep in mind that the problem lies only with the auto connect aspect of it.. Streaming/calls work fine but only after manually connecting.

Did you look at the auto connect app? It worked fine for me. My Bluetooth stopped working for a day or two because I froze a process without realizing what it was so BT wouldn't turn on at all. I think I have to remove and repair both of my devices to get the same setup I had on my Razr Maxx on 4.1.2,
The connecting/disconnection and/or 1-2 minute lag from my General Motors hands-free connection was annoying too. Have to see if that persists. I tried making the A2DP device the trusted one to see if that changes anything.
Really hoping this is something that Moto can/does fix, especially through a Play Store push like they've done with Active Display and the camera app.
not that this is much help for the OP, but my subaru auto connects voice (calls) automagically each time. it also auto-pairs/connects with my TuneLink audio (BT receiver for audio output over headphone/FM).
in the bluetooth settings, the settings button next to your device brings up the paired bt device profile. check to see if all of your devices are registered correctly. for example, my subaru says, "phone audio" and my tunelink says, "media audio".
to help complicate/annoy/support above, i also have a soundbar and BT house phone (cordless). both devices behave the same way my car/tunelink do.

Thanks. I do have the boxes ticked in the device settings for which stream to use. The General Motors connection only has Phone Audio (and it's checked) and the dmzmusic A2DP device lists Phone Audio and Media Audio, only Media is checked.
Did you have these devices setup on 4.2.2 before taking the upgrade to 4.3? Did you wipe in the process? Wondering if that's why @totempole had the issue if he is rooted, he probably wiped the device in the process SBFing back to 4.2.2. If you aren't rooted and didn't wipe between 4.2.2 and 4.4, that could explain why it works OK for you and not us..

could be completely device specific too. if your vehicle is BT v2.x or whatever. my tunelink specifically has problems with data/audio stream with the X that my X doesn't have problems with on other devices. could be software/hardware incompatibility issues.
FWIW, my vtech BT phone @ home would NEVER pair with other devices. i would always have to manually pair.
I just emailed Moto about this, because I'm having bugs too. I think that you're on to something, 640k. My Pioneer headunit (FH-P800BT) has BT 2.0, and while HSP connects fine, A2DP only works on the first pair, and after disconnecting once and reconnecting, it won't ever connect A2DP. I have to completely unpair the phone and re-pair it to get both A2DP and HSP working. My phone also gets stuck on "Connecting..." under BT whenever it's having issues connecting with A2DP. Here's the email I sent off to Moto"
I've noticed an issue with my new Moto X that I never had with my Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The phone itself performs way better than my older phone, but I've had a specific bluetooth problem. I have a Pioneer headunit that supports A2DP as well as HSP (music playback and headset functionality) and with my Galaxy Nexus, it worked great, I paired my phone up with the headunit, and both A2DP and HSP would pair at the same time, and work perfectly. With my Moto X, when I first pair the phone to the headunit, it pairs both profiles, but after I've disconnected (turned car off or turned bluetooth off) and come back, it only pairs HSP, and when I try to pair A2DP, my phone gets stuck on "Connecting..." under bluetooth to the headunit, and never will connect to A2DP unless I unpair and re-pair the entire phone. I've tried resetting my headunit and phone and still the same problem exists. Looks like other people are having issues with bluetooth too, as per this article on a popular Android forum > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2562186 < I'd like you all to check this out. Seems it's just on 4.4, and wasn't present on 4.2.2 (I never checked myself on 4.2.2, as I immediately upgraded to 4.4 when I got my phone. This doesn't seem to be a hardware problem, but more of a software problem. Please check into this, and don't just read this and act like it's only a problem a handful of people are having. I'd like to have this fixed, and while it's not a deal-breaker for me to use the phone, it does make me a bit frustrated. Thanks in advance!

This is a long shot.
I have a pair of Bluetooth 4.1 Minirig speakers that can be set in stereo mode. However when in stereo mode one channel experiences dropouts. Running in mono mode is fine.
The issue is with the Nokia 7+'s Bluetooth transmission as when using other Bluetooth enabled devices to power the speakers the issue does not occur.
Anyone else had this issue when connecting stereo speakers or headphones and know of a solution?
I have checked: System > Developer Options > Bluetooth Audio Codecs and tried changing these setting but the changes did not "stick" and problem remained.
Maybe there is an alternative setting somewhere that can be tweaked.
Thanks in advance.

I'm also having this issue: whenever I'm connecting my N7+ onto the car's audio system via Bluetooth I have to change the codecs to the correct one every single time to make it properly work (have sound/audio at all). The settings also don't stick or are not being saved. Also looking for a solution for this, unless an update miraculously fixes it.
Same problem here when connected to my car by bluetooth. Occasionally there is a dropout. This does not happen when my friends connect with their phones (oneplus 5, samsung, allview. or my old lg g4).
Changing the bluetooth audio codecs does not work as it does not remain selected and it switches to default. This, as i understood, happens on android 8 and has been resolved in the Pie beta and should be ok in the final Pie release.
When I raised the issue with the superbly talented nokia tech support they either act surprised as if its an unique issue to you or send you a list of compatible bluetooth protocols. Are we expected to change our cars and speakers to make the phone work?
I had this issue after installing garmin connect. Theres a thread over in the garmin forums (forums.garmin.com/forum/into-sports/garmin-connect-mobile-application/garmin-connect-mobile-android/1375800-audio-streaming-issues) about it. Also on the nokia forums (community.phones.nokia.com/support/discussions/topics/7000022239/). Seems to affect some phones on 8.1
Anyway, I'm on Pie beta now and the problem has gone away.
I am trying to get the audio from my CC with GTV to play to another source. My preference would be to cast the audio from CCGTV to another Google speaker because that would be the most elegant solution. But I do not think this is possible. I know you can include the Chromecast in a speaker group but as far as I can tell that is only so the same audio can play from your speakers and your TV simultaneously.
The other option that could work is to pair an external speaker with CCGTV via bluetooth. But according to this thread this is not a great solution because you have to forget and then re-pair the speaker every time. The thread has nearly 150 upvotes but Google closed it a month ago. There was no solution to this issue at the time but I wonder if the recent firmware update made bluetooth connections more stable?
Shortly after posting this I discovered that you can access the Play store directly on the Chromecast. I wonder if there is an app I could install that would let me cast audio from the CC to a Google speaker?

I am not experiencing any issues with using my UE Megaboom as an external BT speaker on our CCwGTV. No need to forget and re-pair it every time, I just switch on CC, switch on speaker and they connect automatically.

How long have you been using the bluetooth speaker this way? Have you tried any other BT speakers prior to the Megaboom?

Hmm, let's see...I think we started using it regularly around maybe end of Jan/beg of Feb? Might be related to the latest system update that was rolled out in Feb, but not sure on that.
Haven't tried other speakers yet, since this is our go-to big boy for sound. If you want I can try my BT headphones and our smaller Xiaomi BT speaker to check and see on their functionality with Sabrina.

Yes, please. I would really appreciate that. If possible, leave the bt device powered on and turn the cc off for several hours before turning the cc back on. This is my use case, the bt speaker will always be on and I need cc to connect to it right away when it is turned on.
Thanks in advance!

Any update on this?
I'm really surprised that you aren't having to re-pair your speaker every time. I discovered two more threads on reddit where people complain about this happening to them to. I have a feeling you are the exception rather than the norm:

Haven't forgotten about this yet, gonna have a look this weekend with the different speaker / headphone.
Last night I was watching a show with my lady via the CC and I switched on our UE Megaboom to connect. I forgot to switch off my phone's BT (had them paired before for workout), so they connected automatically.
I then switched off my phone's BT and also restarted the speaker, it automatically paired with the CC without us having to go into settings.
btw @"norm" vs. "exception": hope you are aware that you would most likely only find threads of people who have troubles with this others without issues are less likely to post and are thus far less visible.
edit: by the way, i noticed one big difference between your experience and the two threads you posted vs. my case: we are using the CC with a computer monitor without in-built speakers. so could be that CC somehow detects those inbuilt speakers and resets to a default that routes audio automatically to the inbuilt system.

Thanks for the update. I don't know why sometimes I have brain damage and didn't think about how easily I could have tested all of this out myself with a pair of BT headphones.
Anyway, if you are an "exception" than I am too because I tested with my headphones and they paired up every time without any problem. So then I used the bluetooth dongle that I want to use with my AV system and it works fine too. I have turned the CC off and on multiple times and it connects every time, plus I have zero audio delay like many others reported.
Solution achieved.
hmmm....so then what was different with your speaker?
