usb connection - K3 Note Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, generally when you connect phone to pc, "what do you want to do with this device" message pops up & you select "open folder to view files".
but when I connect my lenovo k3 note to pc , lenovo pc suite i.e. Mobile Assistant opens up. The main problem with that suite is I can only transfer mp3 files, apk files & mp4 files.
I cannot transfer any epub file, .zip file or simply cannot delete any folder in sd card or phone memory.
Is there any way to open my sd card folder to view files ?

Maybe you turned off "Autoplay" on your system?
Go to "Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\AutoPlay" and check.
Your problem seems strange...even if no popup appears, there should be a removable device in your "My Computer".

ATT Tilt can't see Windows folder

I just got a new laptop with Vista as an OS. I am using Window Mobile Device Center and syncing my AT&T Tilt via blue tooth. My device has all hidden files showing. The one thing that I can see anymore is my Windows file on My Device. Under the old Active Sync I was able to view all files in my device. In Vista I can't for some reason. My laptop has all hidden files showing also. Please advise.
in vista you need to go to start - folder optons - view - uncheck "hide all operating system files (recommended).
Thank you, mbarvian. That worked.

I have tried this, but I must be missing something. Once I click start, do I go to control panel or something because I don't see the folder option listed on the Start Menu

Yes, you DO go to the Control Panel. There you'll see "Folder Options" in the master list. That's what he left out. Once you pull that up, in the main tab section scroll down the list to find the "hide all operating system files (recommended)" entry and UNCHECK the box next to that.

cannot copy cab file to phone

Can someone please help? I have downloaded a .cab file to my pc; however, I cannot copy it to my device through Windows explorer or ActiveSync. The "no" sign shows up when I try to drag and drop. I have tried unchecking the Advanced features on USB to PC. Any suggestions?
Use the microSD card reader

I'm not sure whats causing that if the device is properly connected and synchronised but a surefire way will be to copy the cab to your microSD card using the cards USB reader and then put the card back in the phone and run it from there. Are there any other problems you're getting with regards to activesync and what are the rest of the details of your setup (both phone and desktop)?
Thanks for the reply. The issue is resolved now.

I've try that...
but PC still can't read internal memory
So when you connect your phone you don't see something called local device?
Did you install the right version of activesync? Because some versions of windows for pc (like windows vista) cause problems with Activesync, and you need something called Mobile Device Center (I think, because I have it in dutch)

Nope, Win XP cannot automatically synch with Windows Mobile devices. You have to install the latest version of active synch on your pc in order to connect your Xperia to the pc.

thanks for suggestion
Once you're connected with ActiveSync, look for an icon marked something like "explore". It'll pull up a file explorer that'll let you bring up phone memory on your pc

Don't know if I got you correct: in any case you will only be able to see the internal file system, but not the individual contacts. Notes are separate .pwi files - but the contacts are not stored as separate files.
If you see the green orb spinning in your systray during sync you are using ActiveSync, otherwise I assume you're connected differently.
Once the AS connection is up and running you will see a "Mobile Device" in My Computer, doubleclick that and you'll see the "My Documents" internal folder of your phone. Click on "My Windows Mobile device" (or similar, don't have an english version at hand) to see internal root directory in a new window.

LG P990 External Sd Media Scanner Problem

I have a lg p990 running CyanogenMod-7.2.0-p990 with the latest vorkkernel (without flags) and experienced this problem today when your music player apps or your standard gallery app doesnt show anything from the external sd-card. On the other hand you can look at every picture or listen to your mp3's via a file-browser app and the sd card is also shown under Settings/ Memory. So the problem is clearly not on the hardware side because i can access everything on my phones external sd card through a filebrowser.
Things i've already tried:
-Full data wipe and reinstalling cm7.2
Formatting the internal sd card
deleting the data of the mediastorage.app and manually start the media scanner through Dev Tools
Removing and putting back in the sd card 100 times
Rebooting the phone 100 times
i looked in every post at least somehow related to this topic and did not get a working fix/solution at all. Seriously i tried everything...
I just hope someone in this forum could help me (and dont say i should get a new sd card or should send in my phone, because the problem is defenitly not on the hardware side!!!!!).
ROM manager is the problem.
i havent even installed rom manager... can you at least tell me how to fix this? would be awesone

ROM manager I believe is installed in the system, with cm 7. Update it, remove the .nomedia file on the SD and reboot.
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1837185
i cant find the .nomedia data, where is it?
Look in your sdcard root for a file named .nomedia and del it if it exists. Note that the name stars with a dot (.), what turns it as a hidden file in *nix systems like android. So take care to turn hidden files visible on your file manager.

Stupid RomManager.
Easiest way:
Connect your phone via usb (with usb debugging enabled), open a cmd window and type:
Code:
adb shell
rm /sdcard/.nomedia
adb reboot
You can do this without a PC from Terminal Emulator at Android as well, just open it and type the following.
After a reboot everything is back to normal.
Code:
rm /sdcard/.nomedia
The problem in the FileManager is, that you have to enable "show hidden files" (or sth. like that), a leading dot (".") at a filename indicates a hidden file at Linux.
But of course you can just enable that option and delete the ".nomedia" file manually as well.

wow. i didnt find this .nomedia file on my sd cards root directory so i just searched it with windows over usb, 16 .nomedia files have been found and deleted... i know this problably wasnt the right way to go but it worked nonetheless. a big thanks to everyone
Open "Application manager" (Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications) -> switch to All applications -> find and tap the "Media Storage" application -> tap the "Force stop" button -> tap the "Clear data" button -> perform restart of device

If some of them are from app directories you might have random images showing in your gallery :silly:

Access to SD card

When I try to move a file to/delete a file from my sd card i get the prompt to enable access to the root directory of my sd card. I click 'got it' and instead of getting the file manager type screen with select button i get 'operation failed'. It then says to 'turn on files in settings > installed apps first. I can't find anything in settings like this... any ideas???
Okay figured this one out too...turns out there is an app called Files and an option to enable it. Did that and then I could select the root of the SD card...voila!
