Best way to install rom? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S6

I'm getting S6 tonight. Should I update to lastest firmware? Do I just Odin a recovery and flash a rom? Any concerns? Thanks!

Don't update right away. If you OH6 or older you want to keep it there. So you can root with out tripping Knox.

How to root the Samsung Galaxy S5 Active on the NG3 update

A new update is being released for the S5 Active, since i didn't see a thread on how to root the device... Here it is...
Towel root works on the NE4 build but will not work on the new NG3 update.
So what i did was downgraded with the firmware file found on Sammobile with the NE4 build.
Then used Towel root and installed SuperSU, it said it failed to install Supersu but after a reboot all was well.
Oh this was a AT&T S5 active.
SuperSU worked fine and root was verified!
I haven't posted much before. I would like to give back to the awesome community who has done so much for me!
Hit the thanks button if i helped!
Could really use your help

Trying to use your same method
I am trying to root my phone with Towel root and it won't recognize my phone either. My phone deleted all it's text messages, for some reason, last night and I need to root my phone so I can save some of the messages. Came across your post and figured you can help me. I downloaded the may version of the sm-g870A and odin. Odin won't open. I've never done this before and could use your help. If I can downgrade my firmware, or change it, in a way where Towel root would recognize my phone that would be exactly what I need. Also tried all the Modstrings, did no good. Whatever you could say to help, can hit me up personally and help me, idk if you could do that, but it'd be awesome if you could help me.

Hi, I really appreciated your post, but was confused with "NE4" & "NG3" can someone please explain what these are and how would I downgrade to NE4? Thanks

NE4 and NG3 are official kernel images...
Downgrade consists of flashing the NE4 kernel image via Odin...then rooting the device....and then flashing the NG3 kernel via Odin which will give you a fully rooted rom that is the latest version...
Knox will NOT trip if you follow the thread instructions...
We are forced to downgrade the kernel to gain root due to the exploit being patched in the latest update...
The root method works perfectly....g
Thank you for your help

Lol. That is not what I'm asking. what I'm asking for is what firmware do I need to step backwards to kit Kat. I know if I can get it on revision 2 bootloader lollipop, I can downgrade to revision one kit Kat. I did this in the past but I forgot how. Right now I downgraded to 5.0 and I'm trying kingroot and Kingo root. It's not working
Find the latest 4.4.4 Kitkat version and try.

I did. Says fuse binary of 2. That's why I need the lp firmware with the binary of 1. So that I can downgrade to 4.4. Believe me I know what I'm doing, I just can't find the appropriate firmware. I need the boc 5 firmware. But that was an OTA I think

Keep root and upgrade to 5.0.1?

Hello,
Sorry for the noob question, but I was wondering on how to keep root through this update. Do I just take the update? Or do I have to wait for another root from chainfire for the new update?
Thanks

If you try to take the ota while rooted it will fail so you can either unroot and do the ota and then reroot or if you have twrp theres a stock rooted rom in the development section you can flash on top of your stock rom that works just fine

Any way to root my OF3 Galaxy S6?

AT&T pushed OF3 to my phone without my consent. I hadn't rooted it yet. Is there any way to root the device or should I put it up on eBay?
Nothing yet I'm afraid. And as far as I know, it's not possible to ODIN back to the previous version once on OF3
Yeah I can confirm downgrade is not possible. Although I think downgrading Kernels and then using Pingpong will gain root. Not 100% sure
this happened to me too

What root method should I use??

Hello everyone. I have a question in regards to rooting my S6. My s6 has version 5.0.2 and the OCG baseband. Should I upgrade to 5.1.1 before I root? I would like to root without tripping the Knox counter. Also, if I were to root without tripping knox, would I have to use this method every time I flash a new rom? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
just update to 5.1.1 and flash unibase kernel, why do you care about knox? it doesnt really matter if you trip it you still have insurance through your carrier, seriously knox is really only there for companies who provide phones to their employees and dont want them to mess with them.

I can understand that, but I would like to keep from tripping my knox counter. Anyways, I just rooted via PingPong successfully. How do I keep from triggering knox now that I am rooted? Can I flash TWRP or any other kind or recovery?? Thanks.
no, if you want to keep from tripping your knox counter you cant really do anyhting. flashing any kind of custom recovery or rom or kernel will trip it, all you can really do is just stay rooted and thats about it

Got ya. Guess I'm tripping knox then. Thanks for your help.
Ping-pong requires no computer, right? And also , is it confirmed working with this tmobile S6? I am on the latest update and have been stalling on root due to having no PC.
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Free mobile app

I am on of6. Oem unlocking is on and odin will not flash. I use the directions to the T but it stays on nand write start

How easy to trip knox

Hi guys I had thes8 plus and first thing I did was root and flash custom Rom when it come to selling it to get the note 8 I hated how many apps where still broken from tripping knox
My question is I don't want to trip knox again on my note 8 but how easy is it to trip knox?
Can any apps from app store trip it by mistake or using adb to say go to full immersive mode?
Or a couple off modded apps like YouTube modded?
Thanks

The only thing that will trip knox is flashing a custom recovery - which is required to root.
Don't root and you will be fine.
no apps can trip knox
adb wont either

You can use Odin without tripping Knox, you can flash other Samsung firmware and it won't be tripped just don't Odin a custom recovery.

Kind of you could still flash stock firmware fine if you needed to recover from a soft brick of some sort.
But yeah apart from that just stay away from it

It has the recovery needed to root (trip Knox) and has instructions on how to flash it. Does not get any more straight forward than this.
