Hi everyone, new user here.
Just got a couple of 2015 fire's for myself and my 7 year old daughter and been playing around with the setup on mine first (as hers is a christmas present). I had installed rocket player so I could add music and videos to her profile (why the hell don't amazon allow this?!) and it was working well with having completely separate storage partitions essentially so I could have my own music and videos for the main profile but when I load the kids one my files are hidden so she only sees the music and videos that are safe for her.
So far so good except I've now added a 64gb micro sd card as the internal 8gb was disappearing fast - now I still have the two separate storage profiles but the SD card (where I actually want to store everything!) is common across both profiles so anything that's on there is visible to Rocket Player in both profiles (not so good...)
Am I missing something / doing something wrong or is this just a silly limitation of the operating system?
I don't see how it shouldn't be possible to have the same thing on the sd card, afterall it must just be a hidden folder system?
Any help appreciated, it's not a massive issue (as my fire will be for me exclusively eventually) but I was surprised this didn't just work as expected.
Thanks for reading (if you've got this far!), Matt

I have had my windows phone for a couple of weeks, the HTC Surround. I went to the AT&T store and was looking at the Captivate. Did some quick browsing and to my surprise everything worked. I loved the icon format, the animated background, the ease of navigation, the multitasking, the sound was ok, it looked like flash was supported. I did not get to view any movies but the screen looked good. So I am thinking about exchanging my Surround. But I need a few questions answered.
1. Are there many available (free) apps
2. Does the software convert movies, and is the movie player included
3. Is there a FM radio built in
4. what is the available storage
thanks for any help

The phone running 2.1 does not support flash 10.1 but there are froyo roms in the development section that do.
The android market has many free apps.
The stock video player supports many formats but if you need to convert I'd suggest handbrake.
Currently there is no FM radio support and I'm not sure if there ever will be.
16GB internal and an external micro sd card slot.

3rd party apps?
Is the phone open for 3rd party apps or just the apps thru AT&T?
Is there an IRC chat client or a police scanner?
What about video news and AM/FM talk radio apps?
Any GPS apps?
thanks
You can sidelad apps if you read a "how to" here in XDA there are also more than 100,000 apps in the android market and I would say that at least 40,000 are free, switch to android, wp7 will die soon, plus the captivate will have true expandable storage. Seeing as how you can't even get official WP7 SD cards and u can use any SD with android.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
got it
AT&T exchanged my Surround for the Captivate (Galaxy S) today. So far very happy. Better everything except the Surround had more sound, but its an OK tradeoff. I liked this phone the moment I saw it. Plenty of free apps, there's even an IRC client. Thanks for the advice. I'll be hanging around here learning the phone

rooting phone
OK I got handbrake...not sure what is the right extension and resolution is best or what it will allow.
Does rooting your phone reset the phone back to default or do your settings and programs remain intact?
I enabled USB debugging mode, and now when i go back to the USB menu I now see 4 options (kies, media player, mass storage, and ask on connection)...is that right?
When i connect and choose media player the phone appears on my PC...if i choose mass storage, a new drive letter appears but i cannot access the phone...maybe it is becasue I dont have an SD card installed?
After rooting, should i delete the update.zip file on my phone?
thanks
Rooting gives you access to system files and folders. Nothing is lost unless you do a factory reset or master clear.
Is there any way to get Doubletwist to recognize and store my files on the removable SD instead of the phone's internal "media area"? I'm filling up the latter quite fast, while the external card is nearly empty. I can't find any setting in DT that lets you choose where to store music on the device.
I know that Doubletwist's publisher has been promising a "fix" for about five months now, but I figured someone here might have come up with something on their own.
Any help appreciated. TIA
Alternatively, any recommendations on a player with desktop iTunes sync functionality and flexibility in storage locations on the Bionic?
This is a known issue with the Bionic and DoubleTwist. I submitted a ticket with Doubletwist support, and they confirm that the software is not working properly with ExternalSD on the Bionic.
I uploaded my DeviceID information for them, and the support agent promised that it would be fixed in the next release. They offered no workaround. Sorry
I've been using Songbird with MediaSync to get around the issue, but it does no transcoding, which is less-than-ideal.
It's because Moto made /sdcard the internal memory and /sdcard-ext the external as opposed to the normal /emmc and /sdcard for internal and external respectively.
This problem is shared with the x2 and d3 and there is a fix, I"m just not sure if it was adapted to the Bionic yet.

I use Easy Phone Tunes Plus on my Bionic and it works fine for me. Easy Phone Tune has a free version that you can try to see if you like it. It's also available for PC or Mac.
Thanks for the info!
@kraamerica, does Easy Phone Tunes Plus store files on sd-ext? That's my bigger issue, really: Even with syncing only a portion of my music, I run out of space quickly. Kind of a bite to have the SD card there and not be able to use it.

I will look this afternoon when I get back to my PC. That's where you control the syncing and it's pretty good and letting you choose what you want to sync (including podcasts) I just can't remember if there is a "where".
When you 1st establish a connection through the setting's of the Easy Phone Application, it will show your "2" phones (one is your internal, the other external). You would chose the 2nd "phone" unless you have the SD card swap in place.
Then you go through the rest of what you what synced in the next section of the setup and you are good to go. Or so I would hope.
AOKP w/ Devil kernel
I have same problem as these others and can't find can't find solution for this:
"So I've tried everything to get music to stay on my "external" SD card (32gb Micro SDHC class 6, by Kingston). I say
STAY because its syncs fine. But as soon as I try to unconnected it ( I've just yanked it, ejected the drive from
windows then pulled it, ejected it then shut off the phone and pulled it then turned it back on, etc...) it moves 90%
of the files from the music folder to lost.dir. I've done just about everything i can think, heres a list (sorry if some of them seem silly)
unmount SD card, remove from phone, plug into computer, load songs, re-mount = all files in LOST.dir
Sync "USB Mass Storage" Using
Windows Media
VCast media Maneger = all files in LOST.dir
Motorola "motocast USB"
WinAmp
Drag and Drop to folder
sync with the "windows Media Sync" mode not "USB Mass Storage"
Windows Media
VCast media Maneger
Motorola "motocast USB" = all files in LOST.dir
WinAmp
Sync to internal memory and move files to external. = All file in LOST.dir
Now here's where it gets strange, I've done this with 2 different SD cards, (both 32gb one a class 6, one a class 10)
and the same thing happens. I've use both of these cards on 2 different phones (talked to Verizon and they just sent
me a new phone) and the same thing happens. What the heck is going on?"
and this guy:
I'm having issues with music on an external sd card, can anyone advise?
I mounted a 32Gb sd card in Samsung Galaxy 1. I then copied music into music folder on card.
This has been done using Kies and several other times using a usb card holder and Win Explorer - all with same
results...
When I turn on phone, the external media scanner runs ok. I go to music and it only shows approx 16 cds of music. The
remainder seem to be "dumped" into media folder without structure,or alternatively get dumped into the Lost.dir.
Its almost like there's a limit on the size of the memory space allocated to the music folder.
I have used other apps to rescan media. I have also reformatted the cards to ensure no hidden files or attributes.
Also tried this with another new 4Gb card with same issue.
I just got a new Ainol 7 Advanced 7 inch Android tablet (which is pretty cool for cost v's performance).
Unfortunately, this has the same issues as the Samsung.
Obviously, this is due to the same "features" of the Android O/S and its memory mgt of external cards."
I'm using a 16gig card myself and the same thing is happening. Even if I transfer files over wifi and rescan media.
Someone said "I could be mistaken, but I think you may be right about the memory limit in file allocation on that device. I know it's true of some versions of the Android Operating System. The OS wants more storage area for system activity than
or media. Some users solve that issue by rooting their device and manipulating those parameters"
also said "In Unix the lost & found directory is for orphaned files and/or directories. They become orphaned due the OS no longer having the correct pointers to those files.
and "Some tweaks such as sdcard speed tweak and other sdcard related tweaks in init.d folder is causing this problem... Try to boot your phone without them and see if it works"
So I removed what I think was a speed tweak from the init.d folder and rebooted...same thing.
There seems to be from what I've seen, a 1.8 or 2gig limit on media files on the external SD. Everything works great until you add past 2gig, then the rest goes to LOST.DIR. So I tried something, format the SD and copied over 5gig of PDF files, I got the same thing only it seemed the limit was now 3.8gig. So does anyone know how to get around these limits?
Hi All
Firstly, a huge thankyou to @leapinlar for the "Dummies Guide for Installing CM 10.1/10.2" thread. It literally resurrected my sluggish, unusable NookHD sitting in the bottom of my drawer, to something i'm enjoying using via using CMD 10.1.3 Hummingbird!
I do have a few issues tho which I've searched high & low for but cannot seem to find answers, so figured I'd throw it out here:
(1) "can't play video": this is a message I keep getting when attempting to play any videos. they worked on the nook prior to the CM install, i'm using MX player as read that's the best for all codecs. the videos are all residing in the device's memory not the external microSD. should all media be stored (& played from) a microSD card, as opposed to the device memory?
(2) music scrubs speedily thru tracks: so basically can't listen to any mp3s on device. songs just skip thru themselves (like super fast scrubbing similar to sound of changing radio stations) then skips to next track. these mp3s also all reside on device's memory not the external microSD. again, should i play all media from the microSD?
(3) no notifications: i don't seem to be getting any notifications. gmail, facebook, twitter, instagram etc... nothing. when new emails come in, no sound, nor unread number updated on app icon (yup, gmail's configured correctly via managed labels etc). facebook & twitters app icons also don't update with a number representing a new notifications
(4) microSD not recognized: im testing with a small 2GB SanDisk microSD and although it is mounted, I don't see any option to "format SD". I also tried to export a photo & a zip from my Dropbox to the SD and although it appears to save it there, it doesn't -- saves it to internal. Am I missing something?
sorry if these are rookie questions, I will admit I am a rookie! any help or pointers appreciated.
cheers

ok, so made progress after
audio & video both play well when:
(a) reside on the microSD card, not internal memory.
&
(b) are transferred on there externally via a card reader prior to inserting card into nook.
(transferring the *same* music/videos to the microSD whilst it resides in the nook (and connecting nook via USB) resulted it some files playing whilst others didn't... very temperamental)
as for notifications, they seem to have fixed itself.
Hello All, yes I’m new to this site and my Joying 4.4.4 radio. So far I’m really liking the radio and its features however I have a few questions I hope someone ca help me with. As I’ve started to load my favourite apps its fast running out of internal storage. Simple how do I store downloaded apps and Nav maps to my external 32GB USB. I see the option to move (some) apps to the internal 12GB storage but surely I can run another external storage device. Secod last question for now, how can I set PowerAmp as my default audio player. My navigation won’t announce over PowerAmp. Last question why are my app icons (pics) shrinking
Many Thanks
