I still am fond of my Moto X 2013, but the battery life is getting worse and worse.
Which custom ROMs are best for extending battery life? I'm far more interested in long battery life than in any other features, at this point.
I'm already using every trick I know of to reduce battery drain (not even collecting e-mail any more on my phone, for example).
Thanks.
I too had the same problem but solved now . I tried many custom ROM's but can't fix that problem. Then found that the problem is with kernal. Then tried stock 4.4.4 with custom kernal (excellent battery life + doesn't over heating) kernal= zwliew (thanks man). No need to tweak anything. Just flash and forgot the kernal. That kernal itself super tweaked.
As long as you don't flash a lollipop ROM, you'll get decent battery life. You can boost that with a custom kernel, or with Greenify/Powernap/Amplify.
Thank you for your help, gowtham nkg and EmilianoTalamo.
One question: did you downgrade from 5.1 to 4.4.4? I had thought that at some point, you could no long downgrade. I'm sure the info is on this forum, but since we're on the topic, I thought I'd be lazy and just ask you guys.

Stock 4.4.4 excels in battery, specially if you tweak it some. Other than that and you'll most likely get battery issues, especially on 5.1

Hi all
I've unlocked the bootloader on mine through the htcdev site and am currently running Niks latest rom.
However after flashing Nik's latest rom, I'm finding that my battery life has been horrible (i very much doubt its the rom, lots of people have commented on great battery life with his). Can just scrape through a full day's use of texting, some web browsing and music playing. After some browsing on the phone, it goes down from 100% to 90% in about 10mins I've tried increasing my battery life by following the method found in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=701567 but it still hasn't worked for me.
After reading the forums, I've heard that unity's kernel supposedly brings better battery life and am considering flashing it. However I'm not sure if i can flash it given that I haven't rooted my phone or done an s-off?? Can someone please give me an answer on that?
Also, is there anything else I can do to increase my battery life?? It's so annoying having to impose restrictions on myself to increase battery life when my friend's S2 drops to 98% after some browsing and 3 hours of standby...
Thanks so much guys
sometimes, a custom roms make your baterai drain fast.
why? so many tweaks and overclock at cpu.
so, you have other options to change your custom rom.
example, ARHD 2.1.3 make your baterai not drain fast.
If you don't have full s-off, then you are restricted to whatever kernel comes with your ROM. I'd recommend you look into SetCPU if you haven't already, which will improve battery life by regulating how your processor is used. Juice defender is an app worth looking into as well. Have you tried flashing an earlier version of the ROM? Sometimes you can get a build where the kernel just doesn't work well. You might find your battery life improve with an older version, with a different version of the kernel. You have nothing to lose by trying I guess.

As man, not the answer I was hoping for. Thanks for the info, ill give that a try and see if battery life improves. If not might go the whole stretch and get an s-off
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using XDA App

Believe me, it's worth it in the long run. Good luck!
Hey guys, just thought I'd poll and ask some questions?
So if looking for the best possible battery life (over peformance) which is recommended,
true official stock samsung ROM? or stock ROM e.g. Adrenaline ROM etc
I've tried Stocklite, Adrenaline and am currently using Thunderbolt. However my battery life never goes over a day, even with Juice Defender Ultimate and SetCPU profiles.
Any one else have any experiences with good roms? Battery calbiration tips? charging tips anything?
Thanks

1.The battery life depends more upon your baseband rather than the roms.
Ofcourse the roms do make a difference!
Eg. Earlier i was using Stocklite v7.1 on DDKQ8, and it used to last a day, now on XWKTM it lasts more than that.
2.The battery calliberation is said to be a myth as an official google android developer stated that it does not affect the battery in anyway. (Tried it personally too, no change in battery life!)
3.Underclock when you are not using heavy apps on your phone.
4.The way you use your phone makes a great difference, switch off the bluetooth, gps, data, wifi when not needed! Reduce the brightness, it saves the battery!
Hope all this would help you!
Hi,
Whether I'm on the latest SlimBean, CM10 or CM9, battery life is always bad for me. I don't have draining apps and when the phone is idle it's not using battery at all. The problem lies within usage, when I'm using my phone, the battery life goes down too fast (when I'm using Whatsapp and Gmail. Especially when you compare it to stock.
I've done a bit of reading and many people suggest the Modem and Kernel files can have a huge impact on battery life.
So, I wonder, what would you guys recommend to increase my battery life during usage?
I've found this thread with modems: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870460
(My wish is a fast phone with a ROM that looks nice, like the latest SlimBean, but I appreciate battery life more. However, a rooted Gingerbread stock ROM goes so slow...)
Hi, I open that thread to know yours opinion about battery consumption in each version of FIRMWARES.
I get the impression that .93 is receiving less power than .77
What do you think ?
Hard to tell. There's a bug in 23.0.1.A.5.77, and the phone/SMS radios will go to sleep under some circumstances on LTE data. A lot of AT&T users have to run that build in WCDMA which uses less juice. So you can't really compare battery consumption apples to apples.
The battery in this thing is bulletproof unless an app happens to hang, but you can usually tell the phone is getting warm before it runs down too far. I for one am very satisfied with it.
For me it's a bit different. I jumped from 23.0.1.A.1.49/R13B straight to 23.0.1.A.5.77. Because my phone has come with stock HK custom firmware and damn it they don't release newer versions for some reason. I didn't knew that before the new rooting method finally came out. So what I've done is to flash a Singapore custom firmware and then made the rooting procedure.
And about the battery thing, I must say I feel the .77 firmware has much better stand-by performance on my Z3 compact. Much better. And since I gained root along with the upgrading, it's hard to say how much impact the firmware actually has on the battery improvement. Because by gaining root access, I'm able to install greenify and xposed to help saving battery.
But overall, the firmware does improve battery for me.

Guys,
Just received my tablet and I am thinking about immediately swapping the stock ROM for a custom ROM but I am wondering what is the battery life comparison. I have seen benchmark comparisons which look ok (i..e slightly faster via custom ROM) but I have not seem battery life comparisons.
Specifically, because this is more a casual use tablet, I am more interested is how long the device will last when its not used, rather than on-screen time with stock versus custom, but any advise as to what is the best option. So, has anyone done battery comparisons with the various ROM's available?
Thanks
Jerome

Hey Jerome! I'm running slim ROM and the battery is amazing! It's way better than stock because all of the amzon crap is gone so its not draining the battery.
I'm a casual user on this too and only really use it in the evenings for light web browsing and a few games. The battery easily lasts me three or four days before I have to plug it again.
When the screens off and its in idle it only drains about 1% every five hours! I thought it was broken at first because I'm so used to my phones battery draining.
I don't use any power saver apps or anything. I originally had greenify, wakelock detector and better battery stats ready in case of drainage when the screen was off but deleted all of them as they were uneeded!
I'd def go custom rom! Really recommend slimrom its great!
Cm12 is great too and the battery was good on that, its just better for me on slim!
Sorry if this was a well long answer!
