I have tried several different 2.2 builds on my (AT&T) HTC Pure. Most of what is supposed to work does, and it's fun to play with. However, what's really holding me back is an inability to download anything from the Android Maket. I can sign-in and browse just fine, but when I "Install" something and go to the downloads tab, all I find are apps that say "Starting Download" with a perpetually cycling progress bar. I've let it run for 15 minutes and never got anything to actually download. I do not have a data-plan, so I use wifi. I have verified that wifi works.
I have also noticed that I cannot sign into gTalk. I've seen several posts suggesting that once you sign into gTalk, that I'd be able to download apps (and vice-versa), but so far, neither of these applications/features is working for me.
The latest install I've tried is XDANDROID.2.2.AOSP.FRX01.17.09.10.UPDATE_PACKAGE.7z and it still has this problem.
Has anybody else gotten around this problem and have some advice???
I tried using my phone to create a new google account, and that worked, but I still couldn't download.
Happened to me as well. I just forgot about it, and after a while I got an alert that one of the apps is now installed (and indeed working). The other apps on the list hanged as well, and took a lot of time to start downloading.
Seems like a nasty bug to me.
it's a small comfort to know I'm not alone, but I still haven't seen anything download successfully, and as long as I can't install new apps (from the market), there's really no point in using [XD]Android.
Try settings/applications/manage applications/market 'all tab' and force stop. Clear cache. Clear data. So next time you use market it is like new and downloads and installs without hanging etc. Your downloads tab should still have a record of apps you downloaded.

thanks anunna, but that didn't work. I tried downloading the apks for App Brain and the associated "Fast Web Installer" and copying to my device (storage card), but that doesn't seem to work any better. I guess those apps still depend on Android Market to download.
aarrrrrghh. so frustrating... I have now installed Rhod.2.2BLAZN.092610 with the new builds from 9/25 (hw 3d included), and still have this problem. Does anybody have any ideas?? I dont' see how this could be device-specific. ?? I've tried different gmail accounts, different builds, and different wifi networks. The only thing I haven't tried (and can't really) is accessing market over 3G. I say "can't" because I actually have a data-block on my phone to prevent unintentional use and associated charges.
Does anybody have any advice for troubleshooting ?
thanks.
BTW, this is what worries me about WP7: one source for all your apps = single point of failure.
I'll just keep updating my own thread here...
Installed the latest build from 9/28, and nothing's changed.
This time, I went straight into Google Talk and got stuck on the "signing in" screen. Eventually it came back with a message stating, "Could not connect to server. Will retry shortly." This is bogus though, since I can do nearly everything else on the internet, via my wifi connection.
I have the same problem. Android Market doesn't download any software, "Starting Download..." stage never ends...
ashway, have you tried opening Google Talk? Also, do you have a data plan on your phone (3G)?

I haven't try Google Talk yet, will try later. I do have a data plan, do you mean that Market works via 3G and doesn't through WiFi?
I have a data-block on my phone (so I don't accidentally rack up per Kb charges), so I access everything via WiFi. I've seen people suggesting that toggling between wifi or cellular can get it to work, but that's not an option fo me.

I have tested 3G data connection and Market works just fine, but still no success via WiFi.

BOO! so, I'm out of luck??
(thanks for your update though)
Has anybody been able to download from A.M. over WiFi without ever using 3g?
It just happened to me while i'm updating a few apps. I did some research and found an article and follow that way. what you need to do is to un-install the app that you're updating. after that, forced close the Market app and clear the cache. then try again to install it from market. well, it works for me.
by the way, there's also another bug that make Market FC every time when u download an app. if it happen to you, just open Setting>Applications>Manage Application> Market and click "Uninstall Updates".
I am in Malaysia and I have this problem too. It is either "Starting Download...", "Download Unsuccessful" or "Download Paused" message.
I'd tried both 3G (3 different telcos; Vodafone while in NZ, Optus while in AU and Maxis in MY)and WiFi (different AP; at least 10). While connected, I can do everything except for download apps from Market. Also tried signing in different Gmail account.
Being desperate, I tried to install Apps via "adb install" command. Guess what, I couldn't uninstall my apps (both using "adb uninstall" and "Settings > Application > AppName > Uninstall"). It force close everytime I tried.
I got OTA updates for FRG83 twice hoping it will fix my Market problem, but it did not install because it can't. When I tried sdcard:update.zip, I got status 7 error. Some livewallpaperspicker.odex error. Tried searching for the odex but couldn't find one specifically for Nexus One.
Also tried rooting my phone and install ROM Manager. Performed a Fix Permission issue (which it claims often fix Force Close message; one friend recommended this too) and all I got is "An error occurred while attempting to run privellege...". I am sure it is rooted with Superuser Permissions showing "Allow" status. To confirm, I had Move2SD installed and able to port most apps to SD without the developer setting the option.
Just want to share this with all of you that have this problem. Is there anyone can help? The only thing that makes me keep this phone is because its a gift from my wife. Or else I would just get something else.
guys I have the same problem as you do! something I noticed though is that the phone doesnot recognise my SD card and market is downloading the apps on the card . can you pls check your sd card if they are mounted and recognized propperly!
restarting the phone and letting the card mount propperly fixed the adnroid market download freeze issue

brafun, are you using XDAndroid on a TD2/Pure? Were you experiencing problems only when using wifi? do you have a cellular data plan/connection? Does wifi download work now? I'm a bit confused, since XDAndroid is installed on my SD, I don't see how you can have Android running without recognizing it.
thanks

Your guess is as good as mine but the fact is that when I was trying to download an app the behaviour was exactly the same as you described it! It said Starting Download and froze at that point. Cleaning the Cache of market didnt help at all. THen I just started looking for reasons why is this happening, and in "SD card and phone storage" I saw that the SD card was marked as not mounted... check yours and see what it says
been bouncing around between cm7 rc1 and back to latest cm6.
everythings working ok but for maps.... says "Network failure: This application requires a working data connection." well duh it needs data! never seen or had this error before. what do i do to fix it?
so now ive unrooted and reflashed stock roms, wiped caches, everything i could possibly do in restoring to a new out of box state and maps still wont work.
help?
Clear maps data?
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I just ran into the same problem. Neither clearing apk data nor uninstalling/reinstalling Maps helped. I rebooted into recovery and fixed permissions. I also wiped /cache and Dalvik-cache while I was at it. One of those last two seems to have done the trick.
edit for derp.
This was a temporary outage - it worked fine on WiFi at home when i looked some place up, then i got in the car and tried getting directions there and nothing... then about 2 hours later it started working again.
This is when MapQuest (the new maps app, in beta I believe) saved the day. Granted, I could have used a crappy old TomTom I still have in the car, but MapQuest was more convenient.
I had just flashed a CM7 #5 when I noticed the error, so it seemed likely I'd broken something locally. A service outage would certainly explain it.
I think it's on Google's side. Got the same "need a working data connection" message also.
Had problems this morning but seems to be OK now.
I love the way that upon a service outage, geeks will fiddle about with their kit until something they do coincides with the service being restored. I do the same with my DSL connection lol.
To get the maps working again just uninstall streetveiw updates and reinstall them, i worked for me on the nexus one
^ same here
i was panicking earlier this morning when gps was failing to navigate me to my new job on the first day, thought it was just me. wiped map's data and it's working great again.
I flashed a new rom which didn't have google maps and since then I have not been able to get google maps work. It always throws an error message "Network failure: This application requires a working data connection." I tried wiping data, uninstalling, reinstalling, etc., but nothing worked. I even flashed the rom once again, but to no avail.
Please help!

Which ROM did you flash?
Sent from my Nexus One using xda app-developers app
I flashed Nahim2k7.
The author of the ROM suggested the solution. It was problem with /etc/hosts where google services were blocked along with other ad services. Replaced the hosts file with a file containing only the following:
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost
Now, it works fine.
solved
same problem

trying again n again in 5 time it start working as normal ahhaaha.

did 5 times and got it normal
Hello! i have an experia z (obviously) and a long while ago i changed my password on my google account. A few days ago, i was doing something (i dont remember what) and it said that it cannot access my google account. so i went into settings and removed the account and tried to relog in. but now all im getting is a screen saying it cannot get a stable connection to the server and asks me to use wifi for more stability. Sadly, i was already using wifi so i still went through the guided setup to select my wifi and try again. still didnt work. so i turned off wifi and used my 4g and it still wouldn't let me log in. So now im trying to troubleshoot ways to log in because i have none of my contacts and stuff like that.
it still lets me log into the account in the browser window and in the gmail app and in the email account setting in account. just not in the guided setup for making it the primary account. (i tried to add it as email and sync to think "just maybe it will work" but it only syncs emails :X)
my device is rooted and using stock rom
Here are things I've tried to do (some are from suggestions online that aparently helped others):
Reboot phone
remove data/cache from google play store
uninstall updates for google play
unchecking auto time
checking auto time
making sure time is right
checked for software updates
restarted phone, took sims card out and tried logging in
tried to log in through youtube app (which goes through the says black screened log in guide)
turned on airplane mode, turned off phone, turned it back on, then tried wifi and data again.
and i think that is all i have tried. But it tried alot of things so im not sure. Once again. i can log into the account on my phone in other places just not in this black windowed log in guide and yes im typing in the right password and username... i can add pictures if needed.
Bump also tried factory reset and going to website and did the trouble shooting guide. Still nothing
Bump threw phone at wall and drowned it in tub. Still not doing it
Also I called customer service. And like I assumed, all he did was tell me to reset cache and data and restart device. Then asked if I could try to factory reset and then couldn't find any other solutions. So im stuck
Hello!
The other day, after updating my Phone to ATT's latest firmware, I realized my root access had been removed. That was the least of my problems, however. I then realized that I couldn't use the Google Play store, as an error would show up saying No Connection. I learned it was a problem with freedom, so I attempted to fix it, but instead settled with wiping my device to get a new start. After backing up my data, I performed a factory reset, and began setting up the device.
Basically, what I'm building up to, is that when I attempted to sign in, an error came up saying Can't establish a reliable connection to the server. I have tried using 2 different WiFi connections and cellular data. I performed a factory reset both through the Samsung settings, and through the Android "Terminal" Accessed through Pressing Home and Volume up during start up. I have nowhere to turn! What can I do to regain connections to the Google servers, or convince my phone that it can connect?

Since you've already wiped your phone and don't have to worry about losing data I would just reflash the firmware.

Thanks, Trying it now, I'll respond with the outcome.
It worked great, thanks so much!
Hi all,
Hi all, first time poster here, please highlight any indiscretions or mistakes in etiquette and I will address them going forward (forgiveness is appreciated!). I have also asked this question on the Android Central forum a couple of days back but have had no response yet.
I have a Galaxy Tab S2 - 8.0 inch screen size, 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage, Android 7.0 (Kernel Version 3.10.9-10949424). It's been absolutely fine for over a year, the only recent thing I can recall doing which may have some relevance is removal of the Airwatch Software and Agent which my previous employer used to manage devices connecting to their corporate network. No AV software is installed.
I first noticed the issue when trying to browse one of the regular newspaper sites I read in Chrome, I got the "Your connection is not private message", with the "NET::ERR_CERT_AUTHORITY_INVALID". I am not able to proceed to the site - I just get the "back to safety" option.
The problem is more wide reaching, some apps that require internet access do not work any more, Google Play thinks it is not connected to the internet. Some web sites do work however, and so do some apps. A standard Google search will not work. E-mail via the stock app and the Outlook app both work.
I searched through many websites and found the same advice and steps to attempt resolution in a number of places, I will highlight below what I have tried.
Resetting the time, from automatic to manual and back on a number of occasions, with reboots in between.
Have tried connecting to 3 different WiFi networks, all of which work fine with other Android devices and my Win 10 laptop.
Rebooted my home router.
I have cleared the Chrome cache / history multiple times.
I tried the stock browser, the same happens.
Disabled Chrome, rebooted.
Re-enabled Chrome back to it's default version.
Installed the Toaster app via an apk, but I have to admit I have no idea what to do with it.
Rebooted multiple times.
There are no user installed certificates to delete / remove.
Under Settings->General Management->Reset, I went for Reset Settings and Reset network settings, with reboots etc...
None of the above have worked, the only thing I haven't done is a factory reset, to avoid the pain of restoring everything, even with backups etc it's tedious.
Any other suggestions or advice on anything I missed would be most welcome please before I take that step, many thanks in advance.
Peter
