not sure if I have a defective unit or it is a software issue... brand new device. The Micro USB won't stay connected. I tried 2 cables and it had same issue. I was trying to flash the bios and it wouldn't detect the device. then i noticed the "connected as a media device" message constantly keeps popping up as if the USB connection is unstable
Any ideas? Thanks!

Usually when i connect the phone through the mini usb cable to the pc it syncs and everything is fine.I tried to do it today. The specific sound when in plug in the phone is gone. The led indicating that the phone is charging is off.I have a HTC prophet and it works fine with same computer, same cable.I tried hard reseting the phone, it did not help.Ideas?
As expected, it was a problem with my mini usb port.As it is not broken yet i found that inserting the cable and rotating it a little bit (as much as the port itself allows) counterclockwise will reestablish the connection .The only question now is can i manually replace the mini usb port?
I just got the Captivate last week. I've noticed that it doesn't recognize the USB connection if I just plug in the cable at "normal" speed. If I plug in the USB cable s-l-o-w-l-y the phone recognizes the cable and everything works. If I don't plug in s-l-o-w-l-y the computer gives me a USB inserted sound but the phone doesn't seem to know it is connected.
I've also noticed that the phone will (with the slow insertion) always say usb connected once the cable is inserted even if the computer end is not connected.
Anyone else experience this? Thoughts? Bad phone or bad cable?
What ROM are you using?
What USB Drivers do you have installed if any?
What OS are you running?
Pretty much it depends... if your using a custom ROM that could be the culprit though it doesn't sound like it from what you have posted.
Try re-installing your USB drivers for the Samsung Captivate. Make sure your running the correct version. (Search for Design Gears OTA Odin 1 Click post - has the drivers linked there).
And of course... it could be your computer itself. Reboot fixes 90% of all computer issues
Firmware 2.1-update1
Baseband I897UCJH7
Stock - not rooted. Drivers do not seem to be the issue. It happens on multiple computers. Rebooting phone and/or computer does not change things. Same under Windows and Linux.
I kind of have to slowly inch the USB cable into the phone until the phone recognizes it. If the computer end is not connected to anything, the phone sometimes still will recognize the USB cable and say USB connected. If I plug the phone end in first, then the computer end the phone doesn't recognize the connection.

Hello, today when i tried to connect my phone to my computer i got an error that said "Device Not Recognized Device Descriptor Request Failed", it did not happen before. Now I'm trying to connect a pen drive and a keyboard into the usb c and they don't work. But i can still charge the phone with the wall charger and in the pc. My audio adapter works as well. I didn't drop the phone or damage it.
There is any possible software fix to this or is a hardware fault? i have tried different pc and cables.
My phone is locked, (i was trying to unlock) with the last china rom and i dont have root
Thank you
Has the same problem happened to someone? still no solution, even with miui 10
Still with the same problem, can someone help?
thank you
Hi, wondering if anyone has tried connecting their phone to an external dac? I tried my s10e for the first time to today with my Topping Dx7s however it features popping noises along with the audio. This doesnt seem to happen with my previous phone, so the dac/amp is working fine.
Things I have tried:
disabling wifi
Connecting to usb hub (powered)
Selecting - charge phone only under usb mode in developer options.
Clicking on usb notifcation and trying to select phone usb control (as oppose to usb device control) but comes up with error message changing host failed.
I wonder if it is occuring because the phone is trying to supply power via usb?

Seems to be a known issue. Something to do with the firmware.
I'm having the same problems also when using usb audio out.
Any luck on your end in resolving this issue?
Hi Guys,
I'm having problems with A71 (SM-A715F/DS) connecting to car USB, I'm getting "the connected device is not supported" msg on the phone while connecting to my car USB port. I've tried several USB cables, and also tried another mobile phone (S20) which connects to my car with no issues. Someone suggested to check android auto battery settings to be changes to unrestricted but that doesn't help, in any case I don't think AA is the issue here as I'm not even getting to AA and phone is not charging when I try to connect it. Did anyone stumbled upon similar issues with A71 by any chance? TIA.
I've read lots of issues regarding A71's USB-C port. It's a very common failure in this device, so there's a good chance you are experiencing a faulty port.
Thanks for the reply, yeah I suspect new phone is in order and it's not something would be easy to fix, curious tho that its charging and operating well and never had any issues connecting it to my PC or laptop etc. There's always a first time I suppose...
