First and most, I am a long-time reader of xda-forum and this is my first account and/or post ever here.
And come with it bad personal news:
My Xperia ZR lost its IMEI and stalled with bootloop on Beanstalk.
I am really thankful to the developers who have made such a charming ROM, at least to me although it's CM based.
However, things become bad for me when I firstly unlock my bootloader (by official instructions of Sony), then I fastboot the boot.img extracted from Beanstalk zip. Then, off with my phone to recovery and I install the custom ROM.
Everything was just fine, my phone worked like a charm on the new ROM with great battery and gaming experiences; however, it was doomed after 5 days of using.
Phone calls could not be heard although the signals were alright.
I thought it was caused by the ROM, then I chose to fastboot boot.img extracted from CM10.2 and proceeded to install the CM10.2.
That was when I messed up with my own phone for the issue persisted with more frequent bootloop.
I reverted to flash a .ftf (claimed to be stock .244 pudding TW
Still I could not resolve the problems of calling.
Then, I relock my bootloader to try to fix the phone with PCC and SUS - By now, I think that was a very risky action to take.
The phone was perfect on 4.2.2 with bootloop and "System process isn't responding"
Thus, I lost my IMEI on the phone which was the major cause for the bootloop (some reading in the forum about resolving bootloop by recovering TA back-ups which I've failed to do at the beginning.
I've struggled with reading and testing out the instructions (re-unlocking by flashtool) just to get back to CWM Swipe and Beanstalk (with bootloop every 15mins).
And, of course, I've checked the status of my phone, unknown IMEI was there.
I know it's desperate to call for your help here because more attentions are made to Z and others but ZR.
I've been thinking about injecting IMEI back to the Xperia ZR phone ('inspired' by the Backup TA and other success on Samsung devices that I've read in the forum to solve the bootloop). I've also read about the legality of such action but swear to my ZR that I would use that for my very own personal purposes.
But you know, I'm now in vain and pain :crying:
Thank you for your reading to this very line.

first thing first, do you have your original imei saved somwhere? one your phone box or on the e-mail you've got from sony for the unlocking code? (they require your imei for that code)
so there should be nothing illigal with reinjecting your own imei.
second thing, i have no idea how to do it...

I'm rather noob by not following the backing-up tricks before messing with its very inside mechanism, thus, I've lost the code on my device; however, I have the imei code written on the box.
The problem is "I have no idea how to do it either" :highfive:
I've been scrawling around with google help and my reading comprehensive but nothing gained so far.
I've called the service center of Sony in my country and been given addresses of service shops where I would visit in a couples of days.
Thank you for your care and hopefully help may come.
well, u've bricked ur device hard times..
What abt. TA Partition Backup?
U hv to relock the bootloader and for that u need ur TA partition (Do not use others)
I faced the same prob on my XZ lost baseband and and and
Restored TA partition and locked the bootloader, now my XZ is healthy with twins XZR and BB Q10 lol
Good Luck :silly:

Thank you so much, I've read that later on; however, it was silly of me not to have made any TA back-up :cyclops:

Then I poped in a sim card, did the usual setup stuff, played with the phone for a few days, did the ota of 518 -> 534, etc.
Before unlocking the boot loader I double checked the TA partition backup, and the md5 sums no longer matched. So I made another backup alongside the original, checking the md5 sums of the new backup, etc.
So, I have two TA backups made at different times from the same phone and they're different in some way. It may only be one bit, I haven't checked to see just how different they are, but they are different. At the time I assumed that it was related to the 534 upgrade, but that may have been just coincidental.
I have no doubt that they're unique to each device, but I'm not convinced that they're constant.

Yep. Just make sure to copy the resulting backup somewhere safe (off of the device) at some point afterward.
I just checked with vbindiff what contents actually change after the OTA upgrade. The first part is identical. This was to be expected since that part contains device specific information like the IMEI (0xB2D), SN#, ... . At 0x33D8 are OS version strings stored - which changed since the OTA. In my case that values changes from "1274-8313_14.1.G .1.518" to "1274-8313_14.1.G .1.534". That behaviour was also to be expected. After that, large parts of the files differ. Many of those differences ist just shifted (by some bytes) data. Other parts actually changed entirely. Not sure what is going on there. Be it as it may, i would only restore the newest TA-backup.
Cheers

This is the reply of gladiac and something came to my mind:
I've back up my TA by v9.9 (on my bricked phone of course) and receive a zip file in which I have TA.img
By such information above, we have the location for IMEI on hexa table of the file.
In my case of bricking my device by my fool and risky action, I thought of overiding the TA.img to inject my IMEI (now the text on the box and the back of my phone only, not in TA partition any more :crying in to TA.img? Will there be any further harm?
I dare not test it because I am still very vague about my exit if something might go wrong. If problems may arise after my tinkering of the TA.img and restoring the tinkered TA.img back, then, in such scenerio, will my reverting back to the very first TA.img (the not tinkered one) save my bricked phone at the least?
I really dont know if Backup TA can restore TA partition when the phone is in bad state.
It might be silly questions to you but please, I really need help.
Thank you for your appreciation.

dude, i used the same pudding tw file and lost baseband and imei.but later i flashed with official android 4.1.2 ftf file which removed bootloop problems but still i dont have imei or baseband.i have flashed many c5502/c5503 roms and basebands but there was no use.i think the pudding ftf file could be the reason...
Easy fix
The same thing happened to me. Baseband and IMEI were unknown suddenly.
Then I did a factory reset, wiped all caches and flashed cm-11 followed by GAPPS & I got back network.
It was a pain to reinstall all apps and do all the same settings again though.
I remember seeing a stickie on the sp thread. That was a good guide to rooting etc.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100529
The same was appearing in more than one sub forum. Why can't we have such a stickie here?
I am waiting for my ZR.

Actually, I was on Beanstalk (CM based) first, which I can use normally with IMEI and baseband on. I lost them as my nephew touched the "plane" icon. So, the problem was on CM.
For the 'lost' wording, I dont think we lose IMEI and baseband but actually the phone fails to connect to IMEI and baseband data.

I've tried that but bootloop occured.
On US ftf, no bootloop but wifi cannot be turned on.
On Beanstalk, everything's fine but no IMEI and baseband.

it was a matter of time ....
Just updating to this now, will see how it goes
i've chosen not to wipe cache and apps etc, would a full wipe be recommended or will i be fine?
i ALWAYS do a fresh install including wiping everything because then it rules out having any problems in the future... once i do a full fresh install, i just redownload the apps and transfer the videos again OR leave all the stuff on the memory card as the memory card doesnt get touched while its flashing away lol

I have been using this rom since it got posted, my wifi with it is terrible though, it drops loads, could it be the fw in any way or is it the tablet it's self?
i know the issue isn't the wifi it's self because my phone is also connected and when my tablet's wifi drops my phone is always still connected and i can still view web sites etc..
Any suggestions?
i have not yet experienced any wifi issues :S... im not sure what it could be unfortunately, try a full wipe flash

I can confirm there is wifi issues but not just on this FTF, I used your file to get to stock from cm11 (which had no wifi issues for me) I then relocked bootloader and used sonys tool to fully reinstall the latest firmware. In both instances of official ROM I had random wifi hang ups, not so much full disconnection but it did happen once randomly.
Point is, its nothing to worry about on your part its just a problem with official in general.
Hello !
I've a new Xperia E1 Dual (2105).
I've successfully rooted it, thanks to the information I've found on this forum.
Now I've some questions :
1) on my previous phone (Xperia X8) I had a recovery screen accessible upon reboot onto which I could make backups of the whole software on the SDCARD. I would like to have the same on the E1 but I can't find nothing to make this work. What should I do ?
2) Is there any advantage to run a custom ROM on this device, given it already has 4.4 ? (the X8 needed a custom ROM to go beyond 1.6 or 2.1 version Sony delivered).
Many thanks in advance for your help !
Recovery requires unlocked bootloader
Yes, you can backup stuff using PhilZ or TWRP. You can get into recovery by tapping the walkman button during Sony logo
We are currently stuck on 4.4.2, but there are many Stock ROM mods that speeds up it up the phone, such as KillaMade, Illumination, etc.. It frees your time enchancing the ROM, or If you are completely new to Android, It avoids you to give a few headache
If you are unsure what to do, check my guide, It is mostly noob-friendly

I'm a bit confused because I am not able to install TWRP because it says that my phone is unsupported.
I've cleaned bloatware using RUninstaller (backing up each APK before removing it) and moved the backuped APK to the SDCard and to my PC for a possible re-install. But I would have liked to make a backup of all the files with the device cold before tweaking ... I like having belt and suspender when going wild

Just saying using any TWRP app will always say E1 is incompatible, because it is not supported (officially) daily
However, you can install TWRP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe.../recovery-main-thread-twrp-xperia-e1-t3323159
As I said It requires unlocked bootloader, otherwise you can't get into recovery

I've read about unlocking the bootloader and saw that it will reset the phone/apps/settings to factory default.
I should have done it long before ....
But I wonder if there is a way to backup everything BEFORE unlocking and, restore after unlocking to get my settings back.
What do you think ?

Unfortunately I don't have a locked BL, so I can't really tell you how to make the recovery work, though there are many threads about how to boot into PhilZ under locked BL @xezrunner
If you do however manage to flash PhilZ, you can backup your entire system along with apps, data, and etc..
I suggest backing up TA, If you ever need to relock the BL back again to make use of the warranty
Here's the appropiate thread on how to install recovery on a locked bootloader.

Thank you very much but I've already used that and installed a recovery. You are late by a couple of hours.
I was able to do a backup of my present configuration and even make a "custom ROM" with the actual phone. So I'm very pleased !
I looked into the service menu and saw that my boot loader is not locked and that I've no DRM installed (maybe that's because my phone is a plain Sony one ? without any paid application ? )
Now, I've just to use the thread about changing the behavior of the Walkman button in order to disable it...
Thank to all who responded and provided help ! I'm an IT guy but far from an Android guy ! And I would not have done this without you !
Edit :
An additional question :
Now, I still have a locked bootloader (because I did not unlock it) and a recovery installed (PhilZ). Do you think I could install TRWP rescue still without unlocking the BL ? (this way I may keep the warranty of the phone ?)
TWRP is in a different image file (recovery.img), which locked BLs will never be able to boot in it
PhilZ is stored in the kernel (boot.img), so you can easily flash another ftf file to erase the kernel If you need to deliver the phone to your provider
(some providers take this seriously as this is a great excuse for them to ask for more money, or even worse, refuse to repair it, however Sony is still pretty calm about things like this)
As long as your BL is locked, and your TA is intact, your warranty is safe

Last question, do you know if one can backup the official ROM downloaded through Sony PC Companion during "Repair phone" operation ?

There's a much better way to get a .ftf file that you can flash with Flashtool. Use XperiFirm.

It's amazing the volume and quality of information I got asking simple questions.
I would have had to read thousand of pages of this forum to get that much ! You definitely saved me weeks of investment.
Do you know if I can install a Sony software made for a different CDA phone ? Because I have an old X8 which came with Orange branding and it has been so badly configured it is a pity. So I would like to try it with plain Sony Ericsson software and compare with the ROM I tested on it.
Have a bright nice day !

Absolutely, you can flash any kind of firmware and it will work as long as it's for that specific model. You might experience some issues like no 3G if the firmware was made for a country that has no 3G support or has a different kind of cellular reception. But that's rare. The amount of bloat also varies beetween firmwares, of course. Kizoky has made a thread on all the firmwares available in XperiFirm with the fewest amount of bloat, I'm using the Turkey one and it's working really nice.
Glad to be of help!
Hello !
Here I am again !
I've a question I can't solve myself.
I've searched and didn't find an answer.
When I'm at work, I would like to send some calls directly to the answering machine without the phone even ringing. Mostly the personal calls because I can't get any privacy when at work.
Before the Android Era, I had a phone with a white list and a black list. And you could manage the actions for the white or the black lists. This served me well.
On my Android 4.4 I did not find something similar.
I would be delighted to get some help from you guys !
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Try asking in here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
Kizoky,
Thank you for your answer. Actually, i had an idea to search for just blacklist android. It was more productive this way. I've to learn how to search ...
I've found two ways : the first one (not working) is to activate the black list from the settings in the contacts. The second one is to download an app to do just that. For now, I've to find one acting just on the phone call and not on the SMS. Funny Sony or Google did not think it was a need to fulfil ...
Hi there, I have a question. I read in the thread about unlocking bootloader that if I have updated my phone from "fota" my device will brick.
I have flashed a lot on my first 4 phones until I hard bricked a new s2 within 4h of owning it because of factory nand being corrupt and I didint read up on s2 bricks and how they can happen and haven't since for last 2 years done anything to my phones.
So my question is, I have a c6603 Sony Xperia Z and I assume I have the newest os version available, downloaded through OTA (ver. 5.1.1) will my device brick? is there an option like for nexus 4 I had that I could install a stock rom from Google. So get one from Sony and that would be an os not installed from OTA but done over factory update.zip or something.
Also can someone direct me and tell me again to refresh memory what do I need to do and how to get root and be able to back up stuff and get rid of the Sony bloatware and have a faster phone hopefully if roms still give that.
Thank you very much, sorry for bad English.

first of all , older galaxy like s2 s3 are incredibly easy to brick , just forget bout it if u really had no idea about it.
also , yes you can flash your xperia with custom rom without bricking it.
as long as your flash mode or fastboot mode work , there wont be hardbrick
dont forget to backup TA too

EDIT
You just have to know, that there are some ways to restore everything
In my Case I had Bootloader unlocked already (ofcourse)
And I just was stuck on the TWRP Part... I never knew that was soo easy, but you just have to do it properly.
I will make an extra Tutorial now, because it will save many people from going insane
Because of this I didn't sleep for 40 Hours now already, because I was deeply shocked and some very very nice Pictures and important Communications would be gone... and much work in Optimization etc. etc.
Yes!

Then I got a Bootloop, because I didn't updated TWRP before.. so I got into my TWRP and flashed TWRP...
But after that I could not got into TWRP anymore, maybe because I forgot to add multidisabler..
So I flashed stock rom...
However Iam now stuck... I have important Data on the Internal SD and also the backup,
But I only come to the points where it asks me to delete all my data.
Is there any way possible to get the data?
Install TWRP somehow or get to a system?
Please suggest whats possible?
It's an emergency...
Hope you can help me & all who have this problem one day.
Best regards
I can only get to standart recovery, normal firmware & system doesn't boot - Bootloop...
I tryd to flash older firmware (ASH1, ASG8 & newer ASK1), but it doesn't boot system, always ask to factory reset and so on....
really ****ed up...
I hope there is another Way, then directly extract the data from the memory component... wich would be very expensive...

basically the new flashed standart rom erases itself after first start, probably because it detects, that the system was modified before (beyond rom) then it reboots itself and there is no system anymore to boot, then it goes in a kind of pre recovery with the option to reboot, factory reset (including all data!) or reading a log...
DAMN I SHOULD BACKUP EVERYTHING ON PC... ALWAYS!
Still I really want to find a solution and I hope some pro can help on the S10.
No Solution for this.... it seems.
Omg i found the solution and got everything back
