SDCard mode in 8190/8190N - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Aim of this thread is collect knowledge about SDcard mode, which may help when phone is bricked and download mode doesn't work. Big Galaxy S series on Exynos support it by entering download mode(by buttons/download jig) and short some resistor, Galaxy S3 min is ST-Ericsson NovaThor U8420 based. I'm wonder if it's Exynos specific. I've prepared Sdcard by cloning /dev/mmcblk0 from functional phone, and using download JIG, doesn't work. Does anybody has more info on this topic?

Part 1. For whom who just want to root device (you will have option to move to part two anytime)
Part 2. For those who want to Root + CWM (advance clockworkmode recovery, to use upgrade ROM / Nandroid backup restore)
I think phone is not getting detected by software due to unknown device. Can anyone please help to root this devices.

Have you installed adb driver/Kies to PC?
and make sure close kies/firewall/antivirus before flashin, and redownload flashing package with keeping antivirus off
Confirm you have unknown sources and USB debugging enable in device.

Dr ketan, hi, I don't think it's a samsung device so kies will not detect it. even the kernel seems to be different
Don't try to flash any of the N7000 roms or root with our procedures, it'll brick you're device as it's different hardware.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
His system info suggest it is India gingerbread rom kl3
Then how come it works?
Clone device also supports it?
Op don't follow N7000 instruction
Sorry
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
may be its a cooked firmware for that device
Help !!!

Dr.Ketan so is there any method to root phone from device itself, as it does no support Pc software. The day I brought this phone camera was working fine & after 2-3 days camera became blurry, tried to reset all camera settings even soft reset, but not worked. Can you please provide any solution...
Device is not original so nothing can be suggest, anything wrong can lead to brick it, and you won't have option to reflash.

I have similar phone, but based on SC8810. I've rooted this device by entering adb shell, tar'ing /system to sdcard, untar on my linux machine, add missed (because not enough permissions to adb shell user) files, add su and Superuser.apk, make yaffs2 image and flash device with fastboot. I've wrote all of this detailed in russian here http goo.gl/nLkih (translated by google)[/URL]. Now I'm working on porting CWM recovery to this platform (but I have no free time for this, as usually). May this will help you. I can write english manual if more people will need it.
Resume: you must check you device support fastboot protocol. On my device I can enter to this mode by pressing "power" for 2 secs + "volume up".
I am having the same device, having problem rooting it

Never activated Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 semi-bricked after phone apps removed

PLEASE NOTE the tab will not do a factory reset, when I try that it tells me it has successfully erased all the data but when I reboot it it still comes up with the same screens as described below
Got a new S2 8 inch from Sprint but couldn't remember my password so I never activated it ... it worked fine. Great. No activation fee, no monthly access charge, no running up excess minutes accidently.
Truth is all I ever wanted was a pure WiFi tab to replace a Nexus 9. I just bought from Sprint because they were having a sale. Without activation I had exactly the tablet I wanted.
Than I got greedy ... decided to streamline performance by tossing out all the superfluous phone apps and system stuff ... this seemed to work well to ... or at least it did before I rebooted the phone. Now I get a black screen with a flashing red message: Kernel is not SE Android enforcing. Custom binary blocked by FHP block.
All this is Greek to me, but that aside when I try to boot up I get one of two options depending on what hard key compos I hold. One is an endless download loop, the other is the standard Android mini recovery boot page. Of all the options, the seemingly easiest delete cache and restore default system doesn't work. The other potentially useful items .... update from file, update via download, etc. require an ADB connection to work. I have tried to establish an ADB connection using many different cables on both a Win 19 and a Win 7 PC ... in each case I get the dread "wouldn't open Code 10) message .... I have tried it with specific adb drivers and generic ones ... the results are always the same.
A fw other tips, the Android System Recovery LMY47x.T817PVPS2A0L1 screen says:. in yellow at the bottom of the screen, dm-verification failed ... update from ADB blocked and gives similar messages under"apply update from external storage, and and apply update from cache
Meanwhile, back at the downloading loop page we are told:
ODEN MODE
DOWNLOAD SPEED : FAST
PRODUCT NAME SM T817P
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
FAP LOCK: ON
Secure Download: Enabled
Knox Warranty Void: ZERO
HP: SWHEV: B:2 K:8 S:0
So please, please, please does anyone have any idea what's going on here and how I can fix it ... would it, for example., be possible to reinstall the ROM and OS via a USB stick and OTR cable ... if so how would you do it .......
Thank you, thank you, thank you
Forgot to mention Samsung G6 phone connects to PC correctly through same cable ... Device Manager shows Code 10 message when nothing Android is connected to a USB port or when the S2 is connected does not show Code 10 and works perfectly when G6 is connected .... would it be possible to boot and restore the tablet via a USB stick and OTR cable? Thanks again
Hi, Guys, girls, men and women ... I'm not to proud to beg ... one of you must have an answer to this puzzle ... if you do and it works I'll use the my G6 to send you a video of me pushing a peanut around with my nose. Is there really no way to bot or restore this thing via a USB flash drive?
this seems like it could definitely help you
If you can boot into download mode (press volume down and home button as you power on the tablet. Continue holding the buttons down until you get the download warning message).
If successful, download the latest version of Odin to your computer. Also go to sammobile.com and search for your device in the firmware section. Download the appropriate firmware to your computer. You will also need the Samsung drivers for your device on your computer as well.
You should be able to flash it back to stock with Odin. There several threads on xda that give instructions on how to use Odin.

Help rooting Samsung Galaxy S4

Hello, recently I buyed a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9500 phone. I read xda-developers articles to root, and can't root it. I use Linux in my computer, but have a Live HBCD WinXp boot. S4 is booted in download mode with USB Depuration checked and Verify USB Apps unchecked.
With Live HBCD WinXp I install samsung drivers. Putting S4 into download mode runs right and WinXp device manager recognizes the Samsung device. Error is opening Odin 1.85 or Odin 3.04. Odin can not open communications port with S4 to flash image.
With Linux Mint 17.3 Samsung device is recognised in dmesg command. using Heimdall 1.4.0 (Ubuntu), commandline or frontend, can not send data to S4.
I can not root S4 phone.
Anyone can help?
Thanks.

Your best bet is to post this question within the following thread.

After readed link, solved in bad way. I need to instal windows to flash with odin, heimdall in linux does not detect two hardware devices in phone like odin (total of three hardware devices in phone).
Using odin i can not flash with cwm recovery. Flash is successfull but can't start cwm recovery. After pushing buttons s4 loops in start and restart itself. But cf-autorun runs fine, not much like cwm recovery, but enough in this case. Cwm recovery is better.
Thank you.

Nokia TA-1004 JTAG?

Hi everyone,
I was wondering does anyone know the Nokia TA-1004 JTAG points by any chance?
I tried looking around and I can't seem to find anything.
Because of my bricked device, I am thinking of going down the JTAG route to extract my data.
This is the absolute last resort as I REALLY don't want to loose any of my data, primarily Contacts and Messages
Hope to hear back from you wonderful lot ?

I don't know what JTAG is. Please give some more info about your bricked device, how you bricked it etc. It might be possible to recover it without hardware intervention. Looking at your current post I am guessing you have a hard brick. In that case you have 2 options:
1.) Press and hold power button for about 2-4 minutes and wait for the device to shut down. When the device shuts down, boot to fastboot mode and fix any broken partitions.
2.) If that doesn't work you need hardware based methods. You need to open your device and short some pins to enter Qualcomm EDL (Emergency Download) mode. From there you can recover your device.

Thanks for getting back to me.
I have done both suggestions and they don't work.
It is probably a hard bricked device, the only thing I can get is a 9008 recognition in Device Manager.
QFIL, OST and NOST doesn't seem or want to communicate with the device either
Did you open your device and short the pins required? EDL mode is different than Download mode. OST and NOST work in Download Mode not EDL. QFIL does support EDL mode. If you look at this article (https://xiaomitools.com/how-to-use-qualcomm-flash-image-loader-tool-qfil/) at Step 5 it mentions that the device should be recognised as 9008 which you mention it does. Have you installed the Qualcomm drivers? Please provide some screenshots too, it is difficult to help you without specific info about your problem

@emufan4568
Sorry for my late reply, but I thought Download Mode is the same as EDL mode???
And yes, I have the Qualcomm drivers installed.
I have also shorted the EDL pins on the board, this did not do anything at all.
I have tried QFIL many times and it keeps giving me error messages.
I have done so many things and posted screenshots across the forums that I am at a complete lost!

EDL mode is Emergency Download Mode in Qualcomm devices for recovering the device at a low level. QFIL calls it download mode but it really is not. Download mode in Nokia phones is really fastboot mode or bootloader mode where you basically communicate with the bootloader and flash/erase images from the device. From what I have seen though NOST supports EDL mode too (with the Emergency Download option) but it does not really work well.

Need help figuring out how to get the right firmware type (.mbn. .hex, .elf, firehose) for samsung galaxy s3 mini G730V

I have a hard bricked (i tried to flash it once because it was stuck in bootloop and i did it wrong) galaxy s 3 mini that shows up as a Qualcomm HS USB QDLoader 9008 (COM5) when i plug it into my computer, after some looking around i figured out this meant i could do emergency download mode on it through the Qualcomm product support tool (technically the QFIL portion). The issue is the firmware i get isnt in the format the program takes and im not sure how im supposed to do it because of this. It wants me to do things concerning firehose programmer, .elf, .mbn, and .hex but the firmware file i have is MD5. If theres somewhere in specific im meant to get the stock firmware from so its the correct format please let me know, i originally got mine from sfirmware.
