Kindle Fire+Chromecast+Netflix=No Casting from App? - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello folks,
So, I have the Kindle Fire (with the stupid 5.1.1 update, THANKS AMAZON!) and I got Google Play, GAPPS, etc all loaded and working just fine.
Chromecast App sees that I have netflix installed.
Netflix does not have an icon in the menu area for casting the app to the chromecast.
Is there any fix or special permissions or hackery for this?
Thanks in advance!

The key in what he said was that he took the 5.1.1 OTA update so can't root.

[Q] How do I install apps not supported from the Play Store?

Hello everyone,
I recently rooted my KF HD 8.9 and installed the Play Store. All is well and most of the apps I want installed without an issue.
However there's one app that I swear by that isn't "supported on this device". Chrome.
I ended up sideloading an APK I grabbed from the web but that's neither ideal and it's not a current version.
My question is:
Is there a way to bypass the "not supported" message via an app like Market Enabler?
OR
Is there another (I'd imagine legal) way to obtain the current APK from an alternate website?
Not sure if this will help you but I'll share my method. What I do is just download whatever app I need to my SGS1 and back it up with Titanium Backup. Then, I mount it to my PC and pull the .apk out of the TitaniumBackup folder and side load it. I did this with Nova Launcher and HD Widgets and so far everything is working wonderfully.

It will not help because it will redirect you into Google play
Apktop.com
Since chrome is free then this is legal

Nope, the 1mobile market app does the upgrade by itself.
It even upgrades sideloaded apps
btw... it will mark the kindle skype app as outdataded, do not, i repeat do not substitute the kindle skype with the market skype.

[Q] Prime on rooted KF HD

Hi,
I bought the first version of the Kindle Fire HD (7"). I like to root it for using Google Play Store on it.
I have red, that it is possible to root the KF and to use all the prime features (videos and e-books) without any restriction.
Is this still right? Which custom ROMs support the prime features, too? (Kinology?)
Thank you!
Regards, Michel

Kinology should work as it's based on the Kindle rom, but i am not 100% sure as i never tried kinology. However Cm11 rom works for books games and music but not prime video. I just watch prime videos on my laptop. Cm11 has the android 4.4.4 and overall i think it's really good.
I hope you are talking about the 2012 Kindle fire hd 7'' version though?
you can see for your self the cm11 rom by Hascode: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2543455

Hello and thank you for your response!
CM11 is no option for me at the moment, because I bought the tablet to use prime instant video and have access to the free prime ebooks (with the normal kindle app, you do not have access to them).
So I like to know, if all the prime stuff is working after root the original rom and if it works with the kinology rom?
Yes I own the first version oder kindle fire hd 7" with cam and hdmi output.
Thank you!

Hi! If you root your Kindle Fire you will still have access to the apps and prime videos and books. I have done this and i can verify it works. However not having used kinology i can't say for sure but it is likely that it should work as well!

At the moment I only want to use the original ROM. Maybe later I will check Kinology...

Yes I know, but I bought a used one, so there is only a few time of warranty left...
Btw., is it possible to reset the device to the manufacturer settings, if I do not use a custom rom (only root)? (I have red about unroot, but nothing about reset)

Yes you can do a factory reset. This will unroot your device and get rid of all the media (apps, music etc) and settings will turn back to normal.
However doing this you WON'T renew your warranty. But the benefits are clearing cache!
To reset your device got to : Settings - Device - Reset to Factory Defaults Then there should be a pop up and it will ask if you are sure.
If you want reset click "YES".

If your stock root then leave WiFi on and Amazon will push an OTA update out and your tablet will update.

Thank you for the information! Is it possible to force the OTA update?
The Google Play Store updated some apps, unfortunately the amazon music app, too.
Now it doesn´t work and I need a way to get the original one (either as apk or from reinstall). The factory reset does not help

Problem is solved! I downloaded the firmware from the amazon page, added the extension ".zip", opened it and took the amazonmp3_unsigned.apk from system/app folder, copied it to my kindle fire HD and replaced the apk on it.
Now all works like expected

1st gen Kindle HD 7, does latest Amazon firmware lock it down?

Edit: I mean 2nd gen (one with hdmi and camera)
I'm a bit confused with this. I have one on the way, but I'm concerned it will have been updated to the latest firmware. Are there downgrades available if it is locked down, or is it just not an issue with the latest firmware?

I started getting that on 2 kf hd 7" and 1 kf 8.9 that were rooted and updates disabled about 2 years ago. I was on here trying to remember how I rooted it in the first place to restore it.

Any way to make Google Play the default store? (Fire 5th Gen)

Hi, first thread and all that - so just a quick question:
Often when I click links (on websites) in Chrome to apps, it wants to take me to the Amazon app store when the link I clicked is supposed to go to the Google play store. Is there any way to change the DEFAULT app store so it always follows the link to Google play rather than Amazon apps?
I rooted my Fire btw (I think so any way - I followed a youtube tutorial to download a few files to install google play), sorry for lack of details rooting is new to me this is my first Android device.
Thanks for any help

I'm not sure which app controls that, but I have most amazon apps frozen with titanium backup pro, and now play store just opens

Thanks. I'm not aware of the titanium backup pro, will it conflict with anything else or do anything that can't be reversed?

There is a couple of options
Free;requires PC/Mac/Linux and root Adb Shell Pm Hide as much bloat and amazon as you can by k3ll0gs
$5.99:App no pc needed, freeze withTitanium Backup PRO Key use app list in
5.0.1 Bloatware & other Safe to remove Apps
both methods have the same result, the app stops running, and can be restarted if needed
as long as you don't stop a system critical app
There are free apps that can freeze other apps. Are they not good in you opinion ?

I installed one of the app freezing apps from google store, but when I tried to freeze an app (the amazon app store) it said I need root access. So obviously I hadn't rooted it, just installed the google play store (never had an android device before so rooting and it's terminology is completely new to be sorry). I followed a tutorial on youtube (I think it was a rootjunky video) and thought I was rooting the device, but obviously I just installed the google app store.
I'm not a techno-virgin, but I think I need to do more research on rooting and see how easy it is to reverse etc, so thanks for your help, but for now I guess I just have to deal with getting defaulted to the amazon app store.

Basically there are two ways to root, right now
Modified Boot.img
Amazon Fire 5th Gen 2015 Root by Awesomeslayerg
Root Video With Launcher changing Instructions by Rootjunky
Custom Recovery Method
[Video]Install SuperSu using a Custom Recovery
Unrooting is can be done from the supersu app that is installed in the rooting process, but unrooting is different than returning to full stock.
To restore full stock see [HOWTO] How to restore firmware on your device + Amazon Firmware by Awesomeslayerg

It would be nice if it was that simple wouldn't it ytsejam! Unfortunately all that does it turn off being able to open ANY external store links, it doesn't then redirect them to the google play store. It would seem the ONLY option is to root your device.
Hi,

I am looking for the same information.
Previously, you just had to Rename /system/app/MarketIntentProxy.apk to something like MarketIntentProxy.bak and you would be able to have apps launch Google Play Store.
On 5.3.1, the apk is not in /system/app/ or may have been renamed?

Fire TV 1 Gen. - Broke Amazon Appstore App by sideloading mobile version

Hallo,
like mentioned in the topic ... dumb like i am - I sideloaded the mobile version of the Appstore and it overwrote my Appstore in General. Im now unable to get back. If i try installing the APK appstore from my Firetv 4K its telling me, that its an older version. Also im unable to uninstall the APK because its a system app. What can i do to fix this? Can i edit somehow the APK to spoof it to a newer version than it is? if so, how? Just an idea because i was able to install it before.
Not rooted FireTV - Latest OS.
App version i installed: release-32.51.1.0.204398.0_800900410
thanks in advance
