Cardboard 2.0 Issues - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo Q&A, Help & Troublesh

I picked up one of the free Star Wars cardboard viewers from Google. It doesn't seem to work with my Turbo. I am having 2 issues. The first it that it presses the capacitive buttons repeatedly when you try to put it in. Its really annoying but I can get around it by launching the app through the hole in the front. Second is that it doesnt line up properly for my eyes. It seems to be off somehow and the dots in the middle aren't in the same place. My friend tried his Nexus 6P in it and it worked fine, so I know its the phone. Has anyone else tried this?

I get the same capacitive buttons going crazy when I put it in the Cardboard. Annoying...

Yeah the buttons get set off by the sheen of the cardboard. And did you scan the qr code on the unit by your phone

Nexus One hardware issue.

ok it doenst happen when i lay the phone down on the surface and click on the screen it works perfectly
however when i hold it with my right hand and touch the middle of the screen with my thumb
it opens up phone dialer, or appdrawer or vibrante cause it clicks the capacitive button.
when i hold it with my left hand it gets a little bit better but it still does.
if i hold the nexus carefully and touch the screen , it works, when i hold it like this
the things gets better when i put a thick case like otterbox..
is this a hardware issue? ( found similar video on youtube)
my phone is rooted but can i still get a replacement phone?( already put everything back to stock)
and if i do get a replacement, are they going to charge me with anything?
my current nexus one trackball doenst scroll up but everything else works.
How many of you guys got a replacement even though your phone was rooted?
Make sure part of your hand doesn't touch the screen.

it's a hardware issue...
all you can do is not grip the phone too closely to the edge of the screen. It registers touches even if you are not touching the screen completely. But that to be a problem you have to have giant hands
I've had this happen to me once since I had it from launch day. It did happen with my Otterbox commuter series, and a clarivue screen protector. But I turned it off and on again and it was fine.
anyway as stevio jobsio whould say, you're holding it wrong

ok so it is a hardware issue?
no i am not touching any part of the screen. i made sure i wasnt touching the screen.
but it does happen when i hold my phone closely to the edges.
i never had this kind of issues with other touch screen phones..
Well I dunno... One finger at a time and your good to go unless you got fat hands lol

I can confirm that my device too does this. When lying in bed I browse the net with one hand and try and scroll....the edges of the touchscreen seem to register depression when the chassis is pushed or gripped too hard also.
It's a minor irritation to me, but I agree it is a hardware issue.

[Q] Top of screen very unresponsive on new NC

Hey
Just got my brand new NC and for some reason the top part of the sceen just won't easily accept input.
It took me almost 100 tries to activate the slider in setcpu.
Any ideas. ?
Thanks Pavlos
You can try this:
http://nookdevs.com/Recalibrate_the_NookColor_touch_screen
Did this work?
Yep tried that to no success.
Anything else?
Also just noticed in Market that I cannot see any payied apps.
I too have had a lot of trouble with the top edge of the touchscreen, luckily I don't use it too much so it doesn't bother me.
All 4 corners of the screen are very unresponsive for me.
For example, on the new Market, I can pretty much NEVER hit the search button in the top right corner of the screen. I have grown accustomed to pressing Menu then Search instead of using that on-screen button.
Is this not how everyone's NC is?
Mine is not as responsive, but I do not have that bad of a problem with it.

in my case the newer market search button works a lot better than the previous one. still, far from great
Ive had the same exact issue. And can be replicated if you turn the device upside down, all 4 corners have to be touched multiple times in-order for it to register.
best way to test is in portrait mode and trying to hit the search button, tap once a second, unresponsive.....4 times in a sec and it will highlight once.
download the lcddensity app in the market place and change it to 180 that worked for me
Not exactly sure how changing the lcd density would fix this....downloaded anyway...applied...still doesn't work
What is funny though is that TouchTest the screen is insanely responsive on all areas on the screen from edges to multitouch. So im not entirely sure what the deal is.
Sometime I have to apply a little pressure to the back of the nook to get those parts of the screen to work. Pressing the bezel a little also helps. The larger density will make buttons easier to press because they are bigger. Small buttons/icons at the corners/edges of a screen are a pain. I bumped mine up to 240. Nice big juicy buttons.
Sent from Nook Color (Nookie Froyo on emmc)
I have the same here. Corners not responsive.
Not a big issue for me.
I also have the screen protector on.
Corners here also. Irritates me every time I try to search market.
Both NC I have used have the exact same sensitivity issue. It may just be part of the stock NC Kernel that is causing it for some odd reason. It is not completely impossible to work with but it is a bit of a hassle. It is really apparent in the Astro app manager/backup. When you go to check an app to uninstall, it takes like 20 taps to try and check the box to uninstall an app. Odd how it gives me trouble there but in other apps it has no problem whatsoever. Software based issue it feels.
The response from edges of screen is my biggest irritant when using the NC. It did get a LITTLE better for me when I did the recalibration linked to in 2nd post with my NC laying flat on a table with the lcd facing down.

[Q] Problem with display / S-pen??

Hi guys
I am not sure if this has been posted before, i did a quick search but nothing shows up.
Sometimes If I hold the pen close enough (but without touching) the screen would annoyingly picks it up. The problem is way more apparent if I hold the phone upside down, with the screen facing downwards and holding the pen inclined at an angle. Is this a common problem?
I have a video link but unfortunately I cant post the link here it wouldn't let me. Go to youtube and search "Galaxy note s-pen problem" the one by dudelmt

Wacom styluses are magnetic based, not capacitive, so technically it doesn't need to touch the screen. You can place a piece of paper over it and trace images for example.
I can't reproduce what you are seeing though. If I open s-memo, and place the stylus in contact with the screen with no pressure, it doesn't trace.
Just watched the video - holy cow, your pen is nowhere close to the note. wow. it looks like it's a good 1.5 cm or so.
- Frank
For the lazy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VfkXo0KU5c&sns=em
Can not reproduce this on my device. Sounds like some electronic magnet issues or perhaps some other pen?? Anyways, sounds like you should get your device replaced unless you wish to keep it as a Magical Note ;-)
No really can not reproduce your issue on my note.
Do you use your phone upside down often?
(really tired and sarcastic, I know it occurs right side up too )
Faulty Pen
You have a faulty pen! Your pressure sensor from pen's tip is defective, jammed, or maybe only the white tip is physically stuck.
Everybody could reproduce this behavior by putting the pen close to screen, with memo app running, and applying pressure on pen's tip with your finger/nail.
So it's normal for the S-pen not to register if there is no pressure applied despite contact? Because that is what is happening with my s-pen. There is contact, no pressure, and it does not register. Is this how it is suppose to work?
Also, does the S-pen have a very faint click or sound when applying pressure like it is activating a pressure sensitive "something".
Thanks
Same problem here.
My Video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgFLb8bTnXY
I contacted Samsung for replace the Pen, but they told me that is the first time they receive this type of problem.. so.. they will tell me something after some check..
Same problem for me, noticed that it's usually after the first time you touch the screen with the pen, like it still thinks the pen is touching even though its not. I'll log it with Samsung too see if they give me the same 'haven't seen this before' line.
I also have the same issue, it's rather annoying.
Will play around and see what I can find out.
Did Someone find a replace for the S-Pen?
Same problem here, appears to be worse when you first start using the pen. They should add a calibration option for the pressure to fix this, i think its now auto calibrating and that's why the problem looks worse at start.
FIXED- S Pen Problems...
Hi guys,
I had the same problem of the S Pen drawing while hovering about 15mm above the screen, I managed to fix it but it ain't easy....
It involves pulling the pen apart and there are tiny parts in there!
I am kicking myself I did not take photos, but I honestly didn't think I would get it to work again...
If anyone is still having probs, I can make up a tutorial of what you need to do.
Atleast you MAY not have to buy another S Pen.
Cheers,
Dan.

S-Pen repair tutorial- not for the faint-heated
OK...
Now I believe everyone that is having problems has at one time or another accidently or on purpose pulled the rear end out.
From what I have seen you CANNOT replicate this fault without that happenning.
Using a small blade prise the button from the Spen starting at the rear end.
The button will flex and pop out.
Pull the rear end off the pen (again ) now CAREFULLY and into a small tray if possible, turn the pen upside down and the 'bits' will come out, they are:
white nib
tiny O ring
tiny disk with nob one end and hole the other
electronics with button
What had happened on mine is that the o ring, disk and nib had pulled apart so that the disk and the wire-wound rod were always in contact so the Note always thought that the pen was in contact with the screen.
The correct order of bits is:
Nib-Disk-O Ring- Rest of electronics...
you will see the nib has a nob that will locate into the disk, the other side of the disk will hold the oring and all this sits against the wire-wound rod.
NO I AM NOT PULLING MINE APART AGAIN FOR PICS!!!
I put the electronics back in first and then using tweezers put the other bits back in through the button hole before carefully sliding it all back to the nib-end of the pen.
The button then pushes back in and locks.
Now, I a happy to answer questions, or if you like, and if you trust me, I am happy to have you send your pen to me here in Australia and I will repair it if i can.
Mine has been 100% since I did this...
Hope this helps!
Dan.
This sounds like an individual problem. For if the Note was faulty as described then it would have been noticed by the 80% in the poll here who like me think the note is pretty perfect.
Individuals and S Pen failures
I agree Gaugerer, it seems though that more and more individuals are finding this problem as more and more notes are sold...
Atleast it is fixable without the exhorbitant price asked for for a replacement stylus.
Cheers, Dan.
Hi I am thinking of also getting a Note and thus I went to a store for trying it out since I want to use it esp. also for taling notes during my meetings.
Thus the S-Pen is one of my keys in the decision and it did disappoint me:
I tried writing some text in the S-note app and when ever I finished a word and raised the pen the line is still drawn further and thus the text was not quite readable.
Same happens when I use the handwriting field at the bottom (instead of the screen keyboard). Then due to the lines being drawn further when the pen does not touch the screen, the recognition puts together the words.
So I think the problem is facing on many devices.
Does anyone ever get a better / more in-details answer from Samsung? Or should we one by one contact their support?

I contacted "Samsung Exclusive Italy" but they simply told me that check for this problem and recall me. I Never received a call from them.
Thanks to heelerdog for the tutorial, but i dont understand well english, and without some pics I'm afraid to break the S-pen

Top of the touch screen not responding sometimes

Hi, I have the phone for a month now, its 4 months old. This problem is on since I bought it.
When I try to slide notifications roll-down panel from the top, it is sometimes almost impossible to do. When I do it with whole thumb, it goes down normally, but when I try with other smaller fingers, it wont respond. Also in chrome, I have problems editing www address bar, because it just wont respond to touch. It responds immediately when the phone is in vertical position and I tap there with my thumb.
Since rest of the screen works fine and that particular area works well in certain conditions, I am wondering, if there is some kind of calibration app or setting for digitizer. Phone has not been dropped down, nor it has scratches or anything on display. I have screen protector and so I assume it can be somehow related to it. I have almost simillar issue with old HTC Touch Pro years back, but there was an option to calibrate touch screen with stylus. So I am just wondering, if someone can advise something to do. I really dont feel like waiting 30 days solving it by dealer.
Nexus 7 responds way better on the edges than my One. Also, bottom edge and sides are working fine.
As I am trying to do this over and over I have noticed, that when I click digitizer in chrome on text in adderss bar, there is no respond, but when I click just a bit above the text, it responds with any of my fingers, So it seems like its moved up or something (if you know what I mean, I can not really explain this any better

Not normal, I woudn't bother caliberating it. Just return it to the store, or try warranty via the htc website.
In my case htc always came to my place to get the phone, and they always brought it back after a week or so.
They have a great service

Problem is, that in my country, there is no official service center, thus it has to be sent to our neighbor, and because of that, it takes forever to work it out. I could live with that, if there is no self-help, but I was just wondering whether there is some app or setting or not.

Anyone else hitting the middle button sometimes when they bend their hand?

Doesn't matter on the placement too much as sometimes my watch will reset because I bent my hand and it hit and held the middle button causing it restart. Is there something I can fill in the space with to stop the button from pushing down? Maybe a very tiny elastic band?
Or you can wear it on your right hand?
Go to a watch shop, most new watches come with the crown held out with a small plastic disc. Maybe one of these might fit.

You must be double jointed or something, I tried to bend my wrist a half a
dozen times as hard as I could and even slid the watch as close as I could
to my wrist trying to intentionally press the button but I could not do it.
Good luck!
Have a great day!
I have done it twice in a week.
Happens to me all the time, also beware the button is easily broken as I have learnt. The watch fell while putting it on and landed on the button and it no longer works

Happens to me Several Times a Day,, many times it will reboot,, if i try to attach my watch higher than the wrist bones my shirt or jacket will cover the watch face and i will have to use my other hand to expose the face,, very annoying when all you want to do is Glance at the Watch face for the time or messages that just came through,,, By the Way Switching to my Right Hand Does Solve the Issue of Accidentally Pressing the Button But Very Annoying and Makes it Extremely difficult to press the Buttons with my left hand
This was one of the most frustrating things I ran into with my ZW3, as it happened all the time. However, there is a fairly easy solution. Flip it around so that the buttons are on the opposite side, then run Set Orientation to force the screen to match. Problem solved.
If you are comfy setting up your phone as an ADB bridge, you can upload the APK on the fly. Otherwise, you will need to plug it into a PC and upload over ADB the ordinary way. However, getting the Set Orientation app on the watch is the hardest part of the whole deal.
