Installed Omni rom... I9000 ... no recovery and no download mode anymore - General Omni Discussion

Hey guys....
I need some help here with my cousins i9000 ...
Years ago when this galaxy came out... i did a lot of flashing and all were "success"
I did flash on my i9505 those days... worked fine.. now im stuck on my cousins i9000
Dont know if i had luck all this years or what... cant fix it..
I9000 had Froyo... if i remember corretly.. and if i remember right.. i instaled CWM... flashed with omni-4.4.4-20150520-galaxysmtd-FINAL .... the phone flashed.. started up... and working..
Left it there now for dont know... 3 weeks.... today i powered up phone... checking the Rom... there was no Google play..no Google APPs...
I installed Rom manager over dropbox.. there i found GAPPS.. downloaded them..... here comes the problem.. Install and Reboot button... i can click.. and there is nothing... Then i tried to instal stock rom back.. over zip... problem came again with reboot.... it doesent want to...
Than i had enough... i try the 3-button combination... for Recovery or Download mode... It doesent work...
No if someone can help me how to get download mode.. so i can flash back with Odin.. coz...even Odin doesent recognize phone anymore...
Please help me with this one Tnx
Simi

So let me get this straight - you can no longer boot up normally, into recovery, or into download mode? For me, the surefire way to get into download mode is to push and hold both volume buttons and plug in the USB cable (which is already connected to a computer), however, I'm on a variant.
You could try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819551(download jig) as a method to get into download.
Also, I'm assuming you've got the Samsung drivers installed on your computer (but you should still be able to get into download mode without them, but Odin won't recognize your phone).
P.S. As this isn't an Omni specific problem it would probably be better served to go in the Q&A section on the i9000 forum.

yes thats right.. cant get it to download and recovery mode... it is very interesting that..in rom manager.. everything works... but when i come to the reboot click ..or reboot to recovery or anything... its just nothing ... not rebooting.. it like i didnt press anything..
Im still on my workstation and laptop.. on both computers i flashed my own i9000 and i9505 and other phones..
the drivers are installed..
i did the volume buttons and power button... than pluged the usb... it just booted up to OS..
I order JIG over ebay riht now.. we will see if i will get it in 3days like they said... until then... i will try more..
P.S. Sorry if i posted under wrong section... though that becouse i have Omni rom.. its right to post here..
I will copy my therat and paste it under Q&A section... tnx

No problem, now that its here it might as well stay here if you get it solved. No sense in creating two threads. If the jig doesn't work, I would then create a thread there as I can't help you anymore.

Actually, Q&A section is also not appropriate. Per the Omni FAQ, these forums are for discussion of official Omni releases. For issues with unofficial builds that did not come from dl.omnirom.org, please take them up with whomever provided the unofficial build.
Edit: ooops, noticed it was a 4.4 build, which WAS officially supported. I had assumed you were talking about 5.x initially @humberos ?

that's really weird!
I have no complains about reboot mode (download nor recovery) at omni-4.4 version.
All information about I9000 official builds (Omni project) is here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2488037
@simi182
I think your bootloader has some problem. Bad flash? maybe?
Also we should to update I9000 from 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) which has new one BL version (IIRC).
I am sorry, I have no idea which kind of problem that you are getting on your I9000.
Anyway, just remember that buttons combo for download mode:
[Power] + [VolumeDown + Home]
I hope that you get it fixed.

OOOH YEAH - I remember that Infuse (and I think also all of the Galaxy S family) changed bootloaders between Froyo and Gingerbread.
I'm shocked anyone at this point in time would be transitioning from Froyo to custom firmware since that device has had GB for years, and all custom firmwares would have broken with the old Froyo BLs.
The whole MTD/LVM mess means I can't provide any advice on returning the unit to stock and updating to GB, maybe there's something in the I9000 help forums.
Some of the descriptions of inability to enter DL mode sounds like REALLY old Froyo bootloaders - I had assumed initially this wasn't really possible since those haven't been used by anyone since before I got involved in Android development...

Wow , that's wierd . I flashed beta 8 with no problems .
Ummm ... assuming you've done ALL possible 3 button tricks , did you try going into airplane mode ?
You've probably already done this , but just making sure , did you try rebooting the phone ?
Just curious , what were your steps to flash MIUI ? And how do you normally go to download mode ?
actually i followed the exact same procedure in the miui forum and also I was in 2.2 based roms. download mode worked when I was flashing miui rom. But does not work anymore
BTW I go to download mode by holding the up and down vol button together and then plugging in the USB cable to the phone

You messed up. if you can't get into dl mode you will need a jig
MIUI
Real long shot here
If you have wifi, dl sgs kernel flasher from market. Actually dl a compatible cm7 kernel. Use kernel flasher to try to flash kernel. Probably won't work cause sounds like you can't see your sd. Also did you flash the efs backup as stated in the instructions?

I tried all the tricks...my last hope is JIG

That means you didn't follow instructions properly . Try using the kernel flasher . And flashing one of the "[KERNEL][CM7] ...." kernels . MIUI is based off of the nexus S , and CM7 uses a captivate version kernel from Nexus S .
If all else fails , DL jig .
For the new Rc1 do you have to flash Beta 7 then Rc1 or can you go straight to RC1
Help
I followed all the steps and flashed MiuiCapPre1 and got it to work. I rebooted the device and I am now stuck in a endless reboot. All I see is Galaxy S Cyanogen mod screen and occasionally a At&t screen. I also can't seem to enter Download Mode I get the screen that looks like its about to display the battery.
Any suggestions how on how to fix this?
if this is answered im sorry, but i cant figure out out to get my contacts from my sim to show up or import them

why can i download any apss on the market ???

hello I flashed the latest miui version (rc2) and I am not receiving text messages. I can send them out but I just cant receive any. Anyone have any advice? everything else seems to be working correctly. Appreciate any help! Btw, this is my first time flashing the miui on the captivate.

go to the app downloads and push the menu button and select download using mobile network.
So I flashed RC2 and it came up as I9000 device. I flashed TheEscapists 4.2 kernel and it changed to his kernel but kept the device as I9000? I have not had time to keep up with the thread like I normally do so is this an issue that is known or just a single occurrence?
Wow lol didn't even know we had one of these, if you have questions then you should read the FAQ section in the third post of the MIUI thread otherwise you might as well post your question on the thread rather than here as it will be answered a lot faster.

I have the same problem after upgrading to official firmware via kieys. Running PDA:I9000NEJVD, PHONE:I9000NEJV5, CSC:H3GJV6 on 3mobile. Odin doesn't recognise phone in download mode, computer only reads onboard sd card when connected as usb storage. Tried one superoneclick too but stops at running pnueter exploit/gingerbreak exploit. Super laggy as well, Can i roll back to froyo? any help highly appreciated.

I am interested in rooting too, and I have gingerbread. I have 2 problems though, first, I do not have the 3button combo working. I thought the gingerbread update would fix it, but no luck, and the method I found here did not work. I hear that you should not try to root without the 3 button combo working, but what choice do I have, samsung update did not fix this bootloader problem. I cannot put my phone in download mode without having it plugged in and recognized by adb.
My 2nd problem is that I have a I9000T and it seems nobody has this phone around here so I have no way of knowing if some of the rooting options even work for my phoen and firmeware.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I actually have a i9000t, ive soft bricked a few times as long as you could get into download mode you should be ok, allways keep a stock rom around just incase to flash back to through odin.
Ive flashed a few modem with no problems, few roms with minimal problems..
Cm7 lost radio and weird pixle screen boot.
Deoxidized roms work good.
I had flashed Darkys 9.5 and everything worked till i noticed the stock music player gave me reboots.
I had tried flashing MIUI but no luck at all, could of been my zip. File was messed up but i tried a diffrent and still nothing. Now im on Darky 10.1 final no problems.
This has to be the most stable/fastest rom ive ever flashed.

hi.. do you have official kies installed on your computer?
if so uninstall it first... and installed the unofficial samsung driver.. sorry i cant post link here as am junior member..
you can search in google "samsung usb.rar". Once you download it, then installed it on your computer. Open you odin, put your phone in download mode,
and plug in to computer, then odin should be able to recognize your phone.
Once I have the same problem and it works for me with above step. hope that help.

Thanks for the reply! Ok, I finally manage to have the 3button combo work and get into download mode and recovery mode. I want to root, can you tell me if the odin method works on 2.3.3 stock, on I9000T . Also, How can I fully backup my phone. Which android version did you have when you rooted.
Also, I keep reading those very old threads and I was wondering what the latest Odin version is used for 2.3.3.

Turns out We/I have been using the wrong button combo for download. Download mode is: Vol DOWN+Home+Power On.!!! Recovery mode is Vol UP+Home+Power On. I used Fuguroot with my stock kernel from RAMAD (senior developer). Flashed with odin & it took LESS THAN 2 MIN! Check out this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1011901.Hope this helps. Do remember to thank Ramad and Nicademus!

I don't have a galaxy tab, but it should be similliar to my galaxy s. I think your device is NOT bricked. As long as you can get to download mode, your device is NOT bricked. If you can get there, you should try to flash with odin/heimdall again. I think you must have done something wrong in the flashing process. AFAIK the logo is displayed by bootloader (primary), so if nothing went wrong with flashing the secondary one (download mode), you should be able to flash again.

[Q] [i9000] cyanobricked

Hi there,
I noticed I can't get in download mode anymore. Whatever I try it won't show the yellow triangular download sign. It just boots into cyanogen.
I have tried the 3 button trick but recovery nor download works. That's when I had the idea to apply the 3-button fix. adb reboot recovery brings me in the cwm recovery mode. adb reboot download just reboots the phone. I even tried the 300k ohm jig which always seemed to work as a failsafe. That also just boots the phone into cm.
I have checked with my brother who also runs CM nightly 101 and for him the download mode works fine so it is my phone, not CM.
The phone works fine now, is rooted too so I wondered if there's any way to fix this by rewriting the bootloaders. I want to have this fixed as a failsafe is flashing ever fails or if one of the nightlies gets corrupted.
Is there anyone who can confirm the download mode is in the primary bootloader (boot.bin from a stock rom) and is it safe to just flash_image that to the boot partition or will that be a guarantee to brick. The idea is that I still have root console access so I have to fix it from there.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Tried the tricks with and without pc-usb/charger and it made no difference. The 300k ohm jig trick can't be done with power or computer connected since you have to use the usb connection on the phone for it. It usually was my ever working failsafe.
I also tried the quickboot app without any luck. It seems it is responding to the download command but the code isn't there anymore.
Hey try going into download mode by touch controls although I haven't ever used cyanogen but i assume as every custom rom has this feature cyanogen must also have this! The download mode option in quick network options when u press the power button for 2 seconds ! Although it isn't safe but you cab try this and then if it goes into download mode then their must a way to go into download mode manually!

Holding the power button for two seconds indeed brings up the profile/reboot/shutdown options. Selecting reboot only gives two additional options, reboot and recovery which do as they say. I can boot cwm recovery but from there I can't go into download mode either.

Tried it from the terminal with reboot download. Also tried adb reboot download long before that. It just reboots and starts. I have the feeling the piece of bootblock that's holding the download mode isn't there anymore.
There is an option in recovery to boot into download mode, Have you tried that ?
It sounds to me like that part of the bootloader is corrupt / missing.
Does the phone still work normally ? can you still continue to use it daily without the download mode option ?

The phone works fine otherwise. I just want to fix this before it stops working fine and I need the download mode.
Recovery boots into CWM-based Recovery v4.0.1.5 which I got with CM7 with no option to return to the stock recovery or download mode as far as I can see. Also zipped updates from sd-card install fine from CWM recovery mode. If I just knew where to find a cwm ready zipped bootloader that will fix this.

Thats a good idea, I think that should be made, Would save a lot of hassle...
In my recovery under 'advanced features' the option is there to reboot into android or reboot into download..
In order to go from CM7 - Stock, do you need re-partition with all 3 files ? or can you flash it through recovery ?
If so, flash it to stock and sell it to someone who has no idea about Custom ROMs / Hacking. (like me 12 months ago )
EDIT: is this issue not kernel related by any chance ?

Well I have no clue to make any package and I don't dare to flash_image some random boot.bin.
My recovery -> advanced only has reboot recovery which brings it back into recovery.
I'm afraid bringing it back to stock also needs odin/heimdall, that brings me back to the initial problem.
Selling it gives me the money for half a new phone. As long as its working fine I'd like to stick with it. My worst case scenario so far is that I'm stuck with CM7 nightly #101 for the coming 1.5 year which is annoying but far better than the slow stock samsung hands out.
The issue can't be directly kernel or CM7 related. My brother has CM7 #101 running and download mode works fine with him. (And no I can't secretly swap phones ) He doesn't know how to work with odin so I arranged everything for him. Exactly the same steps as I did my own phone. Perhaps a glitch in flashing or something.

Hmmm... tricky one to fix..
I have no more ideas i think flashing bootloaders through recovery would work like you said, But unless its a tried and tested method i wouldnt recommend it at all.
Have you posted this issue in the CM thread ? perhaps you could PM one of the Devs for assistance, or whether the whole 'flashing bootloader in recovery' idea would work at all.
You have nothing to lose by asking them.
Hope you get a solution... But until them im out of ideas.
Keep us updated if you get a fix.
Good luck man !!
EDIT: one more idea, Sounds risky but.... What if you made a nandroid backup on your brothers phone and restore it on yours ?? Thats if nandroid does back up bootloaders im not sure

Thanks for thinking with me. I'll give the nandroid solution a go if there are no other replies within a reasonable time.
I'll post the same question in the CM forum but contacting the CM devs could be hard. They don't give any official support to nightlies and I can't say I'm convinced it has anything to do with CM at all. Though they do have the knowledge to answer the question or build a package to repair it. But you're right there's nothing to lose in asking.
Ofcourse I searched the forum before posting and found out I seem to be the only one ever with this problem. The solution could be as rare so I'll keep you posted if I make any progress beside here. That's what the whole idea behind this forum is for right?
True man !!
And if you get a solution or a dev to make a flashable bootloader. It could help other people in future
Good luck. Keep us posted

Interesting but that project still needs a bricked i9000 to tear apart. I don't have a captivate. Well if it ever becomes really bricked I'll consider donating mine.
And I'm okay with handling computers (yes I consider the phone a small computer about 400 times faster than my first pc) but when actual soldering is involved I give up.
fixable?

Hi! If it still doesn't work, try downloading ROM Manager from the market and install the latest CWM. It sounds like your bootloader got modified/locked.

I REALLY liked your answer
BTW , same here

so my brother brought me his semi bricked n7000 "btw i searched and googled"

so my brother brought me his semi bricked n7000 "btw i searched and googled"
well, yesterday my brother brought me his cellphone which doesn't boot anymore, he wanned to install a custom rom since he saw that i have a fast one (galaxy s I)
so when i asked him what he did , he said he followed all the steps in rootgalaxynoteDOTcom/galaxy-note-roms/kingdroid-ics-rom-v3-0-for-galaxy-note-gt-n7000-best-ics-romtouchwiz-ux/[/url]
but then, his phone didn't boot, so he wiped - reset factory setting, which i read is a BIG NO when you're flashing ICS.
so whats done is done, i am trying to get it back , i can boot in recovery mode/download mode ... i tried out many kernels like AbyssNotekernel42RedTouchCustomLogo or speedmod, and downloaded at least 4 or 5 GB stock roms.
sadly , if odin flash is successful, it stuck on (samsung galaxy note gt-n7000) black srcreen, reboots few times then stays still...
if the odin flash wasn't successful , it keeps stuck on data.img and never goes beyond that .
i did all the steps i could find, wiped data after installed stock GB rom and rebooted, nothing worked
i even used rogue_ET-recoveryonly , and i think it went along format all the way, but still nothing happened after that.
the only thing i haven't tried yet was the repartition + pit file, i couldn't find the PIT , most of the roms have pda/modem/csc ... so if anyone can help out, i would really appreciate it ..
thanks
First thing you should do is check other threads about that around here.
If you can get it into download mode, you could give flashing with Odin a try. If it doesn't get stuck at factory.fs, then you're not superbricked.
If it does get stuck, then you have 2 more hopes:
- HOPE 1
- HOPE 2
If those don't work either...I'm afraid it's off to the Samsung Service center for a shiny new motherboard.
Best of luck to you and hope you get your Note up and running as soon as possible...
thanks, no it doesn't get stuck at factoryfs at all , i did check out most of the threads here, and most of them say "go back to GB with odin and if its stuck on samsung gt-n7000 boot screen just go back with recovery mode and then wipe data / cache " but never worked, so i thought i should ask around here
i'll check out the threads you posted and see what i can come up with
weird, i used the 16gb pit - repartition (check)
and i flashed it with SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS through odin.
and its still the same, the flashing with odin was successful and everything went fine, no hanging , no delays or what so ever. after it restarts its stuck on the black samsung galaxy note gt-n7000 screen
im gonna wipe data / cache again but i doubt that would fix anything.
so any idea what could be wrong? specially when the flashing process went fine?
i've already tried like 4 stock roms ,
arabic uae , europe , saudia and the SGN_XX_OXA_KJ1_FACTORYFS
i wonder if i need to put something in boot space in odin "just a thought"
ive tried downloading roms from here [STOCK ROMS] N7000 All stock ROMs + install + Root guide All at 1place,Latest ICS LQ3
and here [STOCK ODEX PRE ROOTED ROMs] for Odin PC no counter & triangle
any ideas?
For OP:
If you are not stucking while flashing from PC Odin then you are not superbricked.
I think you got corrupted /system or other partition; I saw another thread where OP was getting this sort of hang due to filesystem corruption which can't mount.
Entropy512 gave simple dd command based solution for erasing initial 1MB of partition.
Try searching for corrupted filesystem/partition related information. I can't recall exact thread title, sorry.
I hope this will help.
I found the post/thread for you to check: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27102526&postcount=16

Should try to install/reinstall samsung usb driver package. or try reinstall Kies also provide drivers for Note.
If driver is install properly: when connect with PC using usb cable it need to be shown under hardware management as something like "android composite adb interface" or something like that.

Also are you trying to connect adb after booting the phone ? Means in a stuck state ? I think you can try enabling ADB thing from CWM rather than trying to boot phone fully.
hmm i can't find an option in CWM that suggests that , still searching
also im trying to find roms that i can install from CWM , are there any GB roms that can be directly installed from CWM ?
thanks.

Hi: I understand he means boot the phone into CWM and then connect to PC in that environment. adb need to be run from PC while the phone is booted into CWM recovery.
Still, most of the custom roms are in the .zip format and can be install using CWM. they just now become a bit more difficult to find since dev move on to ICS/CM9 roms. Still try to find some GB roms in the forum such as: rocket GB, litening GB, xtralite GB....
This is the link for Rocket rom GB. Better try v22 than v23.

Yes, recovery mode is in CWM. (in case you have not done it: Enter recovery by,from phone power off: pressing volumeup + home + power and release power when see samsung letter while still hole the other two buttons.)

hmm. that should be still the problem with usb driver. Have you checked under hardware management if it show the device as "samsung composite adb interface" yet?
kernel should not be the problem with connecting adb. It is the problem with usb driver for Note. Sometime Win7 have problem with driver. You may want to search for another package of samsung usb driver on the web.
I did put some links of GB roms in the post in the previous page. maybe try them first if any luck.
Also try to restart computer to see if the driver issues get solved.
Got to go. Hope that you can solve the problem. GL.

thanks, i restarted my pc , reinstalled kies, and now it shows under device manager
now i connect to the phone through adb , i appreciate you pointing it out
which method you think i should go for 1st? this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26285877&postcount=12
or unzipping a rom and then pushing it all through adb?
i think i'll go for removing and repartitioning manually, hopefully it'll work
thanks again guys , i'll post the updates here,
lol, my brother called me and he's like "if u can't fix it by the end of the night, fk it, dont bother yourself with it" but to be honest, im too stubborn, i hope i can fix it
looks like deleting and adding partitions back through parted kinda work, for the first time i was able to pass the boot screen after i installed rocketrom from CWM
however, its been 1/2 hour since im stuck on rocketrom loading screen it keeps looping and looping.. i wonder if i should wait more.. or should i try another rom?
finally got rid of the verification -.- was kinda annoying thats why i didn't bother editing posts,
anyways, rocketrom didn't work, so i decided to flash a stock rom instead , the flash through odin went fine, it was great to be able to wipe data without getting stuck , however, it keeps going though samsung animation over and over, i think im gonna leave it like this one the charger till morning, i wonder if it'll be the same
guess i have to google for "samsung loop" , i wonder why this keeps happening though -.-
-.- leaving it for 6 hours on samsung logo animation didn't do the trick , still looping when i woke up, so i guess i'll do some more search on why this is happening.
You have checked partitions and see no error that means the problem lies somewhere else, not partitions. I have no idea yet, but for me I would try some different roms. Small roms have more chance to work, that is the feedback I got from some people:
- try check rom in the link I sent
- try paranoid android which is CM9, or asylum
- extralite
cheers.

thanks buddy, i appreciate your help, the partition "USED" to give me error when i did the check 9 10 11 , but after removing the partition and reformatting them (and i also removed the cache partition) now its working fine "i suppose" i didn't do another check, but i might will now that you mention it.
i already tried rocket rom, didn't work, stock rom didn't work, so i'll give the others a try at least it doesn't get stuck on the boot screen, but its stuck on the animation logo which is an improvement
thanks again

Ace won't turn on.

OK... so a couple of days ago a friend of mine screwd my phone when he tried to install clockwork recovery without rooting, I was stuck at Samsung logo, no recovery, only download mode... so today after going through tons of threads so I could use Odin with ace on win8.. I finnaly managed to un**** it... so I could re**** it again... so I followed this thread after reviving the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1034145
After rooting and instaling cw, I tried to install a ROM on it, namely nightly cm (found somewhere here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2188679)... I got a status 7 error cause of the assertion, which in removed, after successfully installing the ROM (or so recovery mode said) I tried reboting and it no longer turned on. Doesn't seem to charge and it won't boot...
The only things I can think of that i did wrong were:
Having under 50% battery life
Not removing sim card
PS: also before installing ROM I cleared caches and reset to fact. Settings
Any ideas on how to fix this? If not, what did I do wrong here?
EDIT: ok so i think i figured out what i did, i wanted to download this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2199575 ... i went to the "external webstie" to download, and i think i downloaded this rom "android cm_skate-userdebug-cm-10.2 (stable)" which it seems its not for my phone :S ...
Is it possible to boot into download mode now? would a usb jig work? something like this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8822843&postcount=1
Or is it a lost cause?
Thanks...
PS: oh god, to think i removed the assertion that was saving my phone... ahh **facepalm** , why didnt i read the damn assertion...

If you want to use stock rom again then flash stock rom via odin through download mode. to get to download mode, press volume down + home + power button at the same time until it shows a small "downloading..." word. For further info, How to upgrade, root & flash Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830

Thanks for the answer, i know the "shrotcut", as i said in the op i used odin allready, but the big issue is the phone does not react to the power button, idk what the rom i installed did, if its bricked or if its just expecting a different input rather than the supposed power button, in which case the jig should work...
