My friend asked if I could help him with this old HTC One M7.
He bought it about 2 years ago from some guy who had paid someone to flash some slick ROM on it. It is a world phone (I think?) but it was really wonky on AT&T's network.
DON'T ASK WHY. OR HOW. IT DOESN'T MATTER
Long story short, my friend said he managed to "wipe all data" as a mistake, in efforts to clear the settings/cache to hopefully have it work more successfully on AT&T networks.
Well...he wiped the entire OS somehow.
So he gives me this phone that is literally the worst hard brick I've ever seen. Once upon a time, I was very proficient with the software manipulation of the early Samsung Galaxy phones. My Captivate would have a new ROM every week. Same for the Skyrocket (SII) and S3. Kinda stopped caring when I got my S5 as I deduced that rooting and flashing wasn't really a thing anymore (or worth it at least) . I've gone so far as to "hard brick" my Captivate several times just fooling around and learning by experimentation that I made several trips to radio shack to buy the little resistors to make *the jig*.
This HTC is really kicking my ass up and down the court. It's like playing whack-a-mole. I've literally sat down every night for the past ~2 weeks and put in a solid 45-60 minutes googling and trying different solutions found on XDA and other forums. Every time I make a step forward, it's just another 'brick' wall.
Facts to offer:
When I enter HBOOT (is that what it's called?) it shows data:
M7_WLS PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
CID-SPCS_001
HBOOT-1.44.0000
RADIO-1.00.20.0315
OpenDSP-v26.120.274.0202
eMMC-boot
May 8 2013, 16:30:08:22086
gives options for fastboot, recovery, factory reset, simlock, image CRC, show barcode
So I go into recovery. It loads up with TWRP v2.6.3.0
Won't mount to computer. Okay. Won't access files through file manage. Expected. Sideloader works...kinda.
So, I've been trying about every .zip file I can find in the "help me naooo" forums for this phone.
Through the CID-SPCS_001 thingy, I determined it's a Sprint phone originally. So I stopped trying to shove the square peg of an AT&T RUU into the circular hole of this phone that's *%&@ing me. I then found "RUU_M7_WLS_JB_50_Sprint_1.29.651.7". I also found some other firmwares to try. Can't remember the names of the files or where I got them since the guide I was following said to change to "firmware" to make easier to sideload. I remember finding one .zip that was described as the "catch-all solution answer to all your problems" zip. I tried that, but it required the phone to have more than 30% battery. Even though it said 100% battery in recovery, it kept failing the 30% test.
So, here's the catch. Every time I find a "ahhhh...that's my problem" new .zip solution, the phone won't accept it.
Every time I try to flash something, it results in
Updating partition details...
E:/ Storage Partition '//TWRP/BACKUPS/HT36YS9A014
Installing /'sdcard/sideload.zip' (firmware is not named sideload.zp fyi)
Checking for MD5 file...
Skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
Error flashing zip '/sdcard/sideload.zip'
Updating partition details...
and says "Failed" in red letters below the dialog box.
lather, rinse, and repeat.
I put an updated superSU file on the phone, that someone recommended as a solution to remedy old TWRP.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2592923 post #4
Got the file on the phone. Successfully flashed. But I am pretty sure this phone won't go into fastboot. When I go into the fastboot menu and do "adb devices" on commandprompt, nothing shows up, and I can't do the fastboot commands. At this point, my computer pops up with a "USB device not recognized" message. YES- I do have the HTC drivers installed from HTC's website, and YES I did uninstall the thingy I needed to uninstall.
What can I do next?
Also, my only goal is to get it to be a working phone for now. I just want it to be stock
You will need to use a Win 7 machine or get the hboot upgraded to 1.55 or higher to work on Win 8/8.1.

my computer is now windows 10. And I have access to an OS X machine.
Will the 1.55 upgrade work for windows 10?
Using the commands to flash the firmware (which will update the hboot also) should work on OS X.
As for working on Win 10 after the update I don't know I 'm still on Win 7 lol.

Ok... I'm having quite an issue here and i'm not sure what to do next. I've been looking over the forums and I cant seem to find anything that helps.
I have a Sprint HTC Hero CDMA. The device just hangs at the white HTC screen when booted normally.
When booting into recovery, the only option is to delete user data.
I've tried flashing with hboot, I've tried using RUU's.. I cant seem to get anything to get this phone to boot.

**Additional Notes**
This phone does not boot. So anything required to be done from within android will not work.
ADB does not connect.
Fastboot - REMOTE NOT ALLOW.
I'm about ready to pull my hair out. Anyone able to offer any help?
I'm assuming you've tried deleting user data?
You've tried ruuing with a HERCIMG.zip? (http://www.mediafire.com/?m6x4sr682ruk027)
And after all that it's just looping?
So since ADB isn't connecting, you can't run a logcat to see where it might be hanging?
I probably can't offer much help and late Friday night is a quite time here.
Yes.. have tried deleting user data.. and have flashed several of those packages. I'll try the one you posted and see.

Installed that manually from hboot by moving it to sd, renaming it, and updating. It went through the whole update, said it completed, rebooted.. and same as always.. sitting at a white screen with HTC in green.

Sounds like it's bricked to me. I don't know what else to tell you, sorry.
are u sure not pressing home+back instead of home+power because thatll go to clear storage and it drives me crazy because i always do it by accident due to big thumbs lol
Me agrees with Bierce, you also can try volume down+power then press home to get to recovery that way. Alternative install htc sync and D/l an ruu from htc site connect phone and start the process all over .I know it's long but the eng-spl is reversible when you unroot but the unrevoked s-off, isn't it's at a different level, and they haven't created an s-on for the Hero that I know of. Good Luck we are here to help
EDIT: If you are s-on you can't use the HERCIMG.zip's. AFAIK but I might be mistakin.

Cannot get to recovery from hboot. Option is selected, but it just hangs at white screen with HTC in green.
I took your advice, about the fat fingers lol and used a screw driver to press the power button to make sure I wasn't hitting the back. It just displays the same white screen.. I'm beginning to think this phone does not have a valid recovery partition.
I've tried running multiple RUU's. It take me into bootloader, uploads, flashes, says it completes, but then just hangs at the same white screen after reboot.
if it dosnt have a recovery itll just go to the bootloader just try an ruu thats probably your best option at this point.
Yeah make sure you very gingerly and accurately press the proper buttons.

If you were logged into Google chances are your Contacts are Backed up!
nope...they would never sync right so I just left them as phone contacts
I have been trying to upgrade my htc magic 32a from 1.5 ever since I got it 10 months ago...but no success. One of the reasons I learned in my inquiry is that it is not possible to upgrade a "perfected spl" which is what I have. However, I have found several bloggers who claimed to have done so using ROM Manager, flashrec.apk, ADB, etc. But when I try any of the suggested methods, I eventually reach a failure message (can't be installed on this phone, force stop, etc) of some kind.
So here are my questions:
Was the blogger correct about the "perfected spl"? If I knew that for certain, then I would dismiss the claims of success as bogus, give up the ghost on this phone, and start looking for an upgradeable replacement!
If the answer to the above is no...meaning there is a procedure for upgrading my phone, then I would be forever indebted if someone can point out the way!
Desperate in Buenos Aires,
Laurie
if you use flashrec.apk, you have to enable the option to install application out of market.
Perfected SPL issue
Although I appreciate your input, if you'll read my post, you'll see that I have tried flashrec.apk and I did it correctly allowing non-market applications.
"...ROM Manager, flashrec.apk, ADB, etc. But when I try any of the suggested methods, I eventually reach a failure message (can't be installed on this phone, force stop, etc) of some kind.
My question which I will repeat more clearly is this:
Is it possible to upgrade an HTC Magic 32A with a PERFECTED SPL...and if so, how do I do it?
Laurie
I can tell you I HAVE read posts of people upgrading these phones. even changing the radio and spl on almost bricked ones.
My question to help you from here is :
Do you have a mytouch 1.2 (fender)
If so it says 32A but it is really a 32B board.
I have the fender and I used clockwork recovery, superwipe, and then ezTerry radio and spl update zips.
I suppose I should ask: upgrade 1.5 what?
If you just mean android 1.5
I used clockwork recovery and then put cyanogen 5 on. Easily
I have since put cm6 on and even cm7
All in all. Keep reading I read for days and days, but... Putting a rom on already rooted phone was easy. And very possible
Sent from my Dream/Sapphire using XDA App
Yes: I would like to upgrade from Android 1.5 to whatever!
No: I don't even know what a mytouch 1.2 fender is! When I boot up, the Airtel logo appears followed by "HTC Magic." There's a T-Mobile logo printed on the case above the screen and "With Google" on the back. Here's what it says I have in about phone:
Sapphire PVT (32A) Ship S-On H
Hboot-1.76.0009 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-12 (Dec 8, 2009)
Radio: 6.35.08.29
Type: EB11/32A
I cannot or do not know how to use clockwork recovery. In fact, I am not able to boot into recovery...only HBoot which has no options other than to reset or power down.
I have tried to download and install ROM Manager from Market but get an error saying that there is no such apk. When I try to install from the SD card, I am told that the apk is not for this phone. I have also tried to install it from AppBrain Market but repeatedly get an internet error "Please check your connection and try again." My connection is fine and I'm able to download and install a variety of apks...but none that help me change the rom. I am rooted by the way.
Any ideas?
Laurie
Fender means that it has an audio jack.
Have you read the Cyanogenmod wiki quide? First you need to have root access and an unlocked bootloader (hboot). Only after that you can start installing custom ROMs
Looks like you have the same phone as I do, so you should use this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_%2832A%29:_Rooting_%286.35.x_radio%29
It's old but works. After that you can go forward on installing a ROM you like. Also you always have to remember to have correct radio/SPL versions (you'll learn about them with the guide) before installing software. Otherwise it won't boot.
This is what my phone looks like ATM:

Your phone is pure 32A Magic, not fender or mt4g v1.2
Well then, I don't have an audio jack so my HTC Magic is not a Fender. And I have read...but not followed the Cyanogen Wiki because it specified the "HTC Magic (32A) with 3.22.x radio" while my radio is 6.35.08.29.
I did install ADB on my computer and I created a Gold Card both as per the Wiki instructions. However, I gave up on that method after repeatedly getting a "device not recognized" error.
I do have root access but not a clue as to whether hboot is locked or not. How would I determine that?
Sorry I'm being such a dimwit but I am soooooo frustrated with this phone. Maybe I should either just leave well enough (Android 1.5) alone...or find someone who has a clue to replace the guts of the device with a more adaptable OS.
Thanks for trying,
Laurie
No recovery & fastboot fails to install
I just attempted to follow the instructions from http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Howto:_Install_the_Android_SDK once again to install the SDK and fastboot on Windows 7 but the installation of fastboot failed. See screenshot attached.
In addition, I seem to have no recovery at all on the device. Booting from Home/Power brings up the Airtel screen where it remains until I remove the battery. Booting from Vol-Down/Power produces Fastboot which offers 4 options as follows:
<Vol Down> HBoot Mode
<Send> Reset Device
<Action> Restart to HBoot
<Menu> Power Down
Choosing <Vol Down> gives me:
<Back> Fastboot Mode
<Send> Simlock
Both <Send> and <Action> restart the device and of course, <Menu> turns it off.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I suspect that I cannot proceed with changing the radio or the spl without Fastboot on my computer...and I should not try to proceed without Recovery on the device. So what do I do?
You need to run the installer as admin, and it's safest to run everything as admin since it's the easiest way
The recovery you have is the stock recovery so it won't show anything useful.
I followed this guide: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Magic_(32A):_Rooting_(6.35.x_radio) and it worked perfectly!
I did run the SDK installer as Admin and after a bit of manipulating managed to get fastboot where it is supposed to be. Then I attempted to follow the guide you suggested. However, when I try to "push adb"...I get a "permission denied" message and can go no farther.
So does having the "stock recovery" mean that I cannot enter recovery mode? Hanging up on the Airtel screen is to be expected? Then I truly don't understand. How do I back up my current ROM? And if things go wrong...which they can't because I cannot adb push anything to my SD card...then how do I recover?
I honestly appreciate your help...but I seem to have the device from hell and every time I hear how "easy" it is to do what I have not been able to do in a year, I want to tear my hair out!!!!

Please try to follow the 6.35 instructions
Did you use a goldcard? Check the wiki for that too
You can probably try temproot and then backup with that - but SMS and some other stuff can probaby be backed up in some other ways. If you can't push anything to the sdcard, have you enabled USB debugging from the settings? You can also try to enable USB storage from the usb menu that appears when you connect your phone to your computer and put the files there that way. I can't really remember how I did it since it was such a long time ago :/
Don't worry, it's hard but not impossible!
Yes...I have tried to follow those instruction as well as versions thereof listed below.
And yes...I have created a Gold Card as well as installed SDK, Eclipse, etc...but all to no avail.
When I read "Hey look. I just upgraded my HTC Magic (with the same credentials by the way) to Froyo...in only 10 minutes!" I must come to the conclusion that I am the problem in the sense that there is something that I am not getting. Consequently, my question is this:
Does anyone know of a technical service where I can send my device to have it upgraded professionally?
If it is in the general vicinity of Denver (CO)...that would be cool but at this point I'm willing to mail it. PLEASE HELP! The phone works just fine...but it is sooooooooo limited by Cupcake!

Hmmm.... the science of the magic is a little hard to some few...
Have you tried Spanish tutorials?
There's also an Spanish page (h ttp:/ /htcmania .com) that can help you, because the Magic was first released in Spain
(if you are going for the spanish forums be careful! those use 32b motherboards)
BTW, if you want to upgrade, remember something, you must download 1= the recovery and 2= roms
To install them, you need to use a terminal emulator and all that.... (the forums w/download links also have an installation guide)
I wish you look n.n
and if you need help on how to install or root something... contact me (Y)
Yes...I need help!
Hola Cesar,
Thanks for your suggestions. Since I have the 32A motherboard, I don't want to risk bricking my phone by doing anything meant for the 32B. But I can surely use your help with the following which by the way, I have already tried:
Finding and installing the correct Recovery & ROM. I have been referred to a variety of each but haven't been successful at installing any as you can see from my list...even when following the respective installation guides.
Currently, I'm running a rooted phone with a perfected SPL with no recovery. No problems so far but I would love to upgrade to Froyo if that is possible. Another by the way: I just spoke to an Android specialist at Cricket who said he could do it...but didn't understand why I would want to since I'm not having problems with the phone - if it ain't broke, why fix it?
Laurie
Try to root by SuperOneClick. Even shell root will help in future
If not, i will write more hard manual
I am rooted
Thanks for the suggestion Strogino but I already have root. My problem is not being able to upgrade from Android 1.5.
Laurie

Laurie, The magic of the Magic is a pain!
Let's do this:
Turn of your phone and turn it on by presing back + power
That's the bootloader screen, then tell me what says there
second: Download any root app (like root explorer) and tell me if you can acces the root of your sd (something like / or try to go to /system/data and see if you can COPY an app to the SD). BTW, how did you rooted your phone?
for now, you must decide wich ROM you will use, tell me that and give me the link of the rom (if you want a reco' look for Ginger Yoshi)
That's all for now, do your homework an tell me that ^
Glad to help you!

Hi All,
Need help. I installed the ICS ROM upgrade using the RUU from HTC dev on my wife's Incredible S and while the install process seemed to go well, when the phone booted up, the touchscreen and screen buttons were completely unresponsive (not laggy, it is completely frozen).
I have tried a factory reset from the hboot menu. The result is the same; the phone gets to the android home screen and connects to the cell network, but no touch screen or screen buttons working.
To make matters worse, it no longer connects to the PC via USB. The PC sees a device; calls it an "Android 1.0", but I can't interact with it. I have tried to force update the correct drivers, but no luck. HTC sync says there is no device connected; have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times. Have also tried a second computer.
I also tried to reinstall the ICS ROM from an SD card using fastboot with the PG32IMG.zip file. Again the install process seemed to go smoothly, but at the end no touchscreen.
I was going to try the stock gingerbread ROM using the SD card fastboot, but from what I've read, going backwards is not an option.
Both the cell provider (Virgin Canada) and HTC customer support were not able to help. The phone is past warranty and they want us to send it in for repairs.
Device is currently showing:
Locked
vivo pvt ship s-on rl
Hboot-2.03.0000
Radio-3831.19.00.19_M
emmc-boot
I've done a bunch of searching, but haven't been able to find anything quite like this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it should be fine to run a gingerbread ruu. just dont go any earlier or you will have a paperweight!

Can you provide a link to this RUU or the complete filename?

The filename was:
RUU_VIVO_ICS_35_S_HTC_WWE_4.14.405.2_Radio_20.76.30.0835U_3831.19.00.19_M_release_281519_signed.exe
I also tried the Gingerbread ROM via SD card, but it gave me an error saying it was an older version.

You won't be able to run GB ruu without hboot downgrade, but that will require bootloader unlocking via htcdev site.

Yes, but the problem in doing that is that I cannot get a useful connection to the PC. The bootloader unlocking method on the htcdev site seems to require a PC connection.
Try uninstalling HTC Sync and installing drivers provided on revolutionary installation instructions page.
With no connection to pc you will find it very difficult, if not impossible to rectify. is it a problem with your phone micro USB or your pc USB. I faced the same issue and found it was my micro connection (which also led to charging issues) got it replaced at phone repair shop cost me $80 au. Now everything works great.

You might have more luck with the Canadian variant. Run the ruu utility until it gets to the first screen, the phone doesn't need to be connected at this point. Open start menu on pc and type %temp% in the run/search bar. A temp window should appear. In this window search for rom.zip and copy the file to your desktop.
Rename rom.zip to PG32IMG.zip, place it on the root of your sdcard somehow (another phone or sdcard reader) insert back in phone and start phone into hboot (power + vol down) phone will scan and find the file and prompt install, accept and wait. After installation check your touchscreen and let us know how it went.
if this doesn't fix it, I think you might be looking at a hardware fault.
facing similar issue, just want to ask anyone having issue with ICS/JB, no matter what rom i flash, its still nt smooth
The Whole Story:
So yesterday I successfully upgraded my HTC One M7 to Lollipop for the first time. I was very excited because the UI is awesome. However, my cellular service didn't work. I read that this is because the firmware was out of date.
In trying to update said firmware, somehow I wiped the internal storage of my device (I know...) including my backup. But that doesn't really matter that much... because while using the HTC One Toolkit I also managed to idiotically turn S-ON! So I can't get into recovery anyway...
So I've been trying to get S-Off with firewater because if I can just get into recovery I can install an older backup I have from last year and then get a new ROM and try this circus all over again in a few weeks when my brain is hopefully not dumb. And that is where I've run into trouble with adb.
In the adb console I can see my phone's serial but it always is listed as offline. In fastboot, however, it is listed fine. I have tried so so many things, but at this point I'll try and re-try anything all over again just to get this to work.
Honestly, I'm surprised this thing isn't brIcked by now with all the f--k ups I've had in the past two days.
TL; DR: I royally messed up and accidentally turned S-On. Not sure if it is related, but now adb lists my HTC as offline while fastboot seems to recognize it fine. I can also access all my files on the phone from Windows.
One thing that (I think) is an important detail is that I cannot seem to get the RSA prompt to appear when I plug my phone into Windows with debugging mode on. I have never used this computer with this phone before, so I know it isn't saved or anything (maybe it's worth clearing the RSA keys anyway?).
What I've tried so far:
-Downloaded latest drivers from HTC (2.0.7.29 from 3/3/15)
-Installed Android Studio and updated Google USB Drivers and Platform Tools
-Rebooted Computer and Phone Multiple times
-Unplugged and re plugged USB cord
-Unchecked and rechecked USB debugging
Please...Please, I desperately need people who are better at this than I am.

maybe flashing the boot.img and stock recovery of the firmware you are into will help you!

Thanks for the tip. Does flashing a boot.img and stock recovery require adb? Currently, that is where my main setback is.
If it doesn't require adb, can you point me into the direction of the right keywords to Google to find out how to do that?
***EDIT***
I have become impatient and gone ahead and tried to download what I think is the right one...
I went on htcusbdriver.com, I installed the latest version, and I've run the installation setup and then plugged in my phone, but nothing happens. My phone makes a noise when it's plugged in but it doesn't show up on the laptop. I even tried re-installing the setup while my phone was plugged in but this also didn't work. I'm not sure what else to try! Any help offered at all will literally make me the happiest girl in the world. Thanks!
I have a HTC One M7, I was out the other night and turned my phone around to look at the screen and it was on the Boot menu...
Tried rebooting the phone and it ended up with an android logo and then onto something else (can't remember I was tipsy!!) and then it ended up on this 'Decrypt Storage' screen... I managed to get it back on the FastBoot screen, tried wiping the data caches etc and doing a factory reset (I'd rather have a phone than no phone AND no photos etc!) But that just restarted back onto the Decrypt Data screen.
I even managed to get onto Developer Mode but I wasn't sure if that's where I needed to be (So many people have similar problems but not quite the same thing!! >.< )
So from what I have read I need to download the correct drivers for my phone, which scares me because I don't know which ones I need.
When I go to power off the phone, airplane mode is turned on for some reason.
This is what it says on the boot screen:
*** LOCKED ***
M7_UL PVT SHIP S-ON RH
HBOOT-1.61.0000
RADIO-4T.35.3218.16
OpenDSP-v35.120.274.0718
OS-7.19.401.51
eMMc-boot 2048MB
Nov 16 2015, 20:23:35.0
Can anyone either advise me or give me the correct download link please? I'm not the best at this sort of thing but I really can't afford to just buy another phone
Thanks very much in advance!! :fingers-crossed:
In the same boat - sorta
Hey.
No matter the driver version, I can't get my freshly lineage'd M7 to show up on my computers neither:
With Win10: SyncManager autostarts yet says no device was connected. Windows explorer shows the device as a chargeable one named "One", that's it.
With Win7: SyncManager autostarts and freezes for a bit. Then, everything is the same as mentioned above. Results are reliable.
In probably unrelated matters I can't find any contacts on my SIM card. That's super strange since I managed to hope with my ages-old SIM card from Nokia Ovi to WinMobile to BlackBerryOS to HTC Android without any troubles or need to format any contact files.
But I still think alurasweek and me both have the same false core settings enabled maybe? *lookscepticalatthephoneasifitwasastrangelymagicalthingfromanotherdimensionwhereendlesslinesofnumberscarryallmeaning*
