I've a XT 1092 bought in Germany, now it is:
Andriod version: 5.0
System version: 22.21.19.victara_retde.retdeall.en.DE.retde
Build number: LXE22.46-19
What I've done on it:
1, Unlock,Root
2, Being unable to do OTA, download a German version of 5.0, recovery to this 5.0 through fastboot
Now there is always system update notification on the cell phone, so I download it automatically and try to update it.
Then the little robot appears and updating process starts.
But it failed every time, after power on the phone, it just says no change was made.
I enter the fastboot mode on phone through volume down and power button, and it says:
Device is unlocked. status code: 3
Software status: modified.
How could I successfully do an OTA?
Why it still says modified even after I recovered the phone to a stock version 5.0?
Many thanks, and wish you all a Merry Christmas!

To successfully do OTA, your system must fully unmodified, this including no custom recovery, unrooted, stock boot logo, etc. So, if your system only rooted, you have to unroot first. Or the easiest way, just flash the stock system and recovery image, then perform OTA.

Nevermind, delete.

thanks for your replay.
my x2 is now on a German version 5.0, and unlocked.
i think it is unrooted, but truth be told the last step I had taken before running into this OTA issue was returning the rooted phone to 5.0 by fastboot.
so now I'm even not sure weather it is rooted or not.
I've tried the steps regarding below method with stock ROM, hoping it can return to stock status and be ok to do OTA.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/general/guide-return-to-stock-official-status-t3274121
Question: is this what you've suggested "flash the stock system and recovery image"?
but when i access the bootloader, it stays the same as before, and says:
device is unlocked. status code: 3
software status: modified.
then I put the zip stock ROM into phone, and tried to do OTA on phone both with original name and modified name(update.zip)
But after selecting the ROM in recovery, it says:
qe 1/1
--install/data/media/0/update.zip...
finding update package..
opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:footer is wrong
E:signature verification failed

all the thing i want is being able to to OTA, I have searched some threads both on domestic forum in China and on XDA
but no one works.
thanks in advance.

Why would you want to do an OTA?
Just grab the newest ROM and flash it.
I've seen a 6.0 XT1092 ROM somewhere on these forums.

Did you flashed 5.1 or 5.1 based custom rom previously like cm12. 1?
I'm facing the same problem. Did you get any solution?

Hi,
I am trying to update my phone to an OTA update from HTC that will bring my phone up to Android 4.3 and Sense 5. When I try to install it, my phone boots into Twerp v.2.6.0.1. I go to Install - Download Folder and click on the OTA file and then Swipe to Flash. It Fails and the last line above Failed is Updating Partition Table. Can someone help me?
Also, I noticed I wasn't running the latest version of Twerp. I was goin to download it but I can't recall whether I have the International version or AT&T version of the phone. Is there a quick way for me to figure that out? (if i need the updated Twerp).
Thanks.
John
Are you trying to do the OTA from within the OS or flashing a zip? If you try to do OTA from within the OS, it'll boot to TWERP because you're not supposed to do OTAs with a custom recovery. If you're trying to flash a zip though, it should work fine.
As far as I know, TWERP is the same for the international version and the AT&T version (only Sprint is different), anyway you can get all your essential info using this:
reboot to bootloader, then into fastboot
fastboot getvar all
Should give you all the information. Hope this helps!
Hello, I would very much appreciate any help provided.
I just got a moto x developer edition gsm. I'll be using it on tmobile.
I've rooted lots of android phones and have never had this many problems. I tried a lot of different things on these forums and have had some success but i'm stuck now.
I was able to unlock the bootloader using motorola's site. I also have TWRP recovery installed (2.6.3.1). Currently the phone has 4.2.2 (build 13.9.0Q2.x-116-x-17-57) and its rooted, working fine.
The moral of the story is that i'm unable to update to 4.4. I've tried the OTA update twice and it downloads fine, then reboots to twrp to install it and it fails, saying something about its not ghost. Although in my system version it does say ghost. I also downloaded the 4.4 rom and manually tried to install it using twrp, also fails.
I'm not totally sure if the rom i'm on now is the same one that the phone came with. The rom that's on it now was obtained from this page:
http://sbf.droid-developers.org/phone.php?device=0
(Android 4.2.2 Blur_Version.139.12.57.ghost_row.Retail.en.US) for t-mobile US
Please help me be able to update to 4.4 and ideally keep root.

You need to be stock, unrooted, with stock recovery to take the OTA. Use the sbf you have to flash back your stock system and recovery and you should be good to go to accept the update.

that is your problem. The OTA installs will not install via 3rd party recovery like TWRP and CWM.
fastboot flash the stock recovery back on your phone and try the OTA.
Thanks for the help guys, going back to completely stock enabled me to get to 4.4. After that luckily I found out that rooting and installing twrp was very simple, unlike all the info i was reading in the developer forum. All set now
Why didn't you flash the official firmware manually using fastboot? Once done, boot into Android and run adb reboot bootloader. Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img, select recovery, adb push su.zip /sdcard/, flash su.zip, adb reboot?
I have an unlocked and rooted HTC One M7, which I just updated to the latest version of android via an OTA update.
I used the process I always use for this, by reverting back to the stock recovery, then doing the update.
Even though the update completed, the initial boot after the update won't complete anymore. I am stuck at the HTC One Boot-logo.
I know that it usually takes longer to boot after an update, for the first time. However I have waited 60+ minutes now and it still did not move on.
Some more detailed information:
- Unlocked bootloader
- S-OFF
- H-Boot: 1.61.0000
- Radio: 4T.35.3218.16
- Version-Main before update: 7.18.161.2 (This is also the stock recovery I pulled and flashed before doing the OTA)
- Version-Main after update: 7.18.161.21
- CID: VODAP110
- Variant m7_ul unlocked / international
What I have tried:
1st As mentioned above, re-flashing stock recovery, update -> No boot
2nd Recovery from an older nandroid backup, made on the previous version, so 7.18.161.2. After recovering, my device worked fine again, like before the update. HOWEVER: The system version (inside the OS, aswell as adb and bootloader) still showed 7.18.161.21, which should be the version AFTER the update. It still tells me that I need to update my phone though.
3rd Since then I have tried to re-flash the stock recovery, this time the one for 7.18.161.21, since it showed me I was on this version. Again, the update completed without any hickup, but it is now stuck at boot again.

You are confusing software and firmware version. When installing an ota update, both the software and firmware are updated. Nandroid backups doenst include the firmware, flashing one will only restore the software. So you are restoring a .2 software on a . 21 firmware.
Anyway you have soff just flash the latest ruu available for your phone and then update it

I have tried finding the correct RUU, but I am getting a little confused with the available ones. When selecting the RUU, is only the variant of the phone important (so unlocked in my case) or do I have to match everything, as in CID, Carrier etc.? Because I cannot seem to find one that has matching information, except for the variant.

Wow, sorry I somehow didn't manage to find that
Thaks a lot!
Btw, since you said the firmware is not included in a Nandroid backup, if I create one now, do the whole procedure and if something fails, re-flash the nandroid, should everything still be working fine just as it is now? I'm guessing yes, right?
Also: If I now flash the ruu, deleting all data etc in the process, and then update, I won't have any option of re-aquiring all my data/settings either, right?
So in the end effect, this update will basically "flush" my phone
Same problem
Hi
I experienced the same problem while updating from 7.18.161.2 to 7.18.161.21. My bootloader was unlocked l, S-on and flashed stock recovery before I did the OTA. This procedure was working fine since a long time. Unfortunately this time I got stuck at the HTC boot logo, same as OP.
After flashing the RUU, locking the bootloader (this I guess was the important step) and do the OTA again, it finally worked. Too bad I lost all my precious data. Yeye backup I know
Im really aware of unlocking my bootloader again and have the same problem the next time they might release an update.
Now my question is, did HTC or my Carrier (Swisscom) changed anything in the update procedure?

They will probably not have anymore updates but to install one you need:
stock recovery of the same firmware version or from the ota update version
stock /system partition (any missing/modified/corrupted files on this partition will makes the ota install fail)
stock /data/preload (any missing/modified/corrupted files on this partition will makes the ota install fail, unlocking the bootloader wipes everything in this folder)

I've been trying for two-weeks to apply the 6.0 OTA to my Moto X 2nd Gen XT1095 phone.

1. I don't understand the reference to victata:4.4.4 as I'm running Android 5.1 right now.
2. I can't find a recovery image for T-Mobile for the XT1095 to return to factory image.
3. I presume the Blur_Version above -is- the OTA image but I cannot force it to apply
(and probably shouldn't)
4. Motorola isn't making factory images available for non-developer models.
I'd be happy to wipe it and return to factory image, but cannot find a way to get there
without downloading the factory images from stashed places I cannot seem to find.
Any advice?
You must have stock recovery and stock system to apply the ota
What system version are you at right now?
If you have root and recovery, just flash the stock xt1095 6.0 rom from the android developmemt forum...
Factory reset, install zip and that's it..
As mentioned above, you can't take ota in your situation.

Doesn't sound hard, except for the part about -finding- a stock xt1095 6.0 rom.
I'm looking though but not finding the correct version of stock rom. A lot of

Flash this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/rom-xt1095-flashable-stock-rom-t3277874
And after that root your phone with that: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-2014/development/root-root-moto-x-2014-android-t3249105
Download supersu 2.52 and the attachment for xt1095.
Just for comparison, antutu benchmark on stock 5.1 verizon's gave 36000~ and now on stock 6.0 xt1095 (which is really close to clean aosp) gave 55000~
Have fun
Bootloader unlocked. Phone rooted. P10 Vtr-L09. I no longer want root and have installed stock recovery but I'm having issues updating. Soon as the phone reboots after update to install package it gets to 5% and then update fails. I'm not sure if it's because the bootloader is unlocked or what but I could really use some help.
edit:
after factory reset, i attempt to update with ota that my phone received appears the update was successful.
