I have been trying to recover data from a specific directory in my internal memory through Recuva. Recuva doesn't recognize the xperia z3 compact as a drive when connected through USB. Additionally, the mass usb storage option is greyed out. Is there a way to have Recuva recognize this phone as a drive to recover this data?

I had this issue with other phone, and needed to do some research. I came to the conclusion that the only chance to recover a file in an mtp drive is to run a recover software in that drive: it is impossible to recover plugging the phone to a PC. Unfortunately I couldn't find that software and lost valuable files.

description: During file transfer from my PC to my Diamond the process was stuck, then sot reset i have looked on my diamond and couldn't find Internal Storage via file explorer.
via memory manager there is a message of " Internal Storage: not installed".
i dont have backup of Internal storage and i don't want to format it. how i can safe my Diamond?
thx
Internal Storage disappears when you connect USB
Hi
When you connect USB, you get two options - Disk Drive and Active Sync. If you connect as Disk Drive, the PC takes over and it cannot be seen inside the explorer of Diamond. Better connect with Active Sync for transferring data.
this works try it. google htc diamond internal storage hot fix.
I also have the problem that the internals storage can not be found anymore. I tried everything including double hard reset,... - internal storage could not be formated because it was not found or "not installed". I can connect my Diamond to the PC via ActiveSync but not as a storage device (harddisc).
Cant`t install the sprint hotfix on my german Diamond either (wrong device message).
There is a chance that your internal storage is infected by some virus. The virus for windows desktop versions might not affect Windows mobile, certain times, it could block you from accessing your internal storage.
I had this issue with my Symbian phone (nokia N91), where i got infected by an autorun.inf file, and symbian was unable to access data from the builtin harddrive.
I had this problem last night. Here's how I fixed it:
Connect the phone via USB, and select Disk Drive.
Go into Windows Explorer and wait for the drive to show up. Don't try opening it!
Just right click the drive and wait... When I did this, this step took 10 minutes!
When the menu finally loads up, click Format.
You should be able to leave the defaults that come up. But here's the settings to the best of my memory.
Format: Fat 32, Allocation: 4032 (or something like that), check Quick Format then click Format. And wait some more...

i have a problem....my sd card not detect on pc..any suggestion can hard reset my sd card??by the way how to backup data on device storage??
What do you mean that your "sd card not detect on pc"?
If your PC cannot access the SD card via USB connection to your phone while you are still able to access it on your phone, check that your X1's USB mode is set to "Disk Drive/File Transfer/Mass Storage" under Settings>Connections> USB to PC
If it cannot be detected on your X1 but can be detected if you were to directly plug your SD card into a card reader in your PC, blow into the SD slod on your phone.
If your SD card can be detected by the PC which prompts you to format it, it probably got corrupted and you need recovery tools like Recuva to recover the content. If it can be detected by either, it's probably dead.
just bought lumia 620..didnt get memory card in retail package..so right now i just have phone's internal memory to store data..now the problem is..after connecting device to the PC, whenever i transfer files from PC to device, m able to see them in explorer of desktop os..but when i send .xap files from my android phone over bluetooth, m neither be able to install them in lumia nor able to see them in explorer when i connect it to PC..in simple words, where unrecognizable files (transferred over bluetooth) get stored in wp?? or how to see ALL contents of internal memory of wp?? i just want to remove those files transferred over bluetooth to clear the space and which are not seen in mass storage mode
hope you understand what i wanted to say..
You need SD card to side load applications.
Phone memory is not all seen by the system because part of it is occupied by windows phone OS root files, which protect themselves against other explorers.
Ya.. But how do I clear those files? Unnecessarily taking space.. seems internal memory connects in MTP mode n not in mass storage mode.. :X
You should be able to delete the files from the built-in file explorer from the phone.

as far as i know, there no full functioning file manager available for wp..we just can see music, photos and videos..
Today I'm gonna transfer pictures and videos from my Xperia V to my computer after a long time and delete some files in my internal storage because it said it is 100% full.
When I connected my phone, it was via MSC or mass storage mode. Knowing that I cannot access the internal storage when on mass storage, I disconnected my phone and switched to MTP to access the internal storage. After making the changes I wanted and just returned to "My Computer"..... I noticed that It indicated that my SD card is 29.4GB free out of 29.4GB.. I just ignored this and thought that maybe it was just an error. I switched back to mass storage and it stayed the same.
How is this possible? All of my files from my SD card are gone when I'm not even deleting anything!!! I downloaded a data recovery program though and it retrieved some of the files but my videos weren't recovered
What could be the problem? I'm so upset about this, it is driving me crazy. Please help me.
It is the risk of using mass storage mode. I stopped using it a while ago.

The same thing happened to me yesterday, however I haven't used it in mass storage mode...
Is there a solution to get my data back? Fortunately I only had music on it, so there was no important lost.
Hello friends.
I have a Lumia 730 Dual Sim.
I wanted to know how to recover deleted photos of his internal memory. I tried to use some recovery programs, plus they do not detect the Lumia partition, making useless most of these programs.
Someone could help me by suggesting a program that recognizes the partition of internal memory and I can recover the deleted photos?
Thanks,
I know how to recover deleted image
Yes, you'll be able to, if the photographs were saved on the memory card then stop mistreatment the phone now and take away the memory card and insert it on the laptop.
Then transfer a free utility called Recuva and do a recovery for the memory card and once you scan using the utility it ought to show you the files that would be recovered.
If you deleted from phone memory then connect the phone to your laptop as a memory card and follow the higher than a step.
Note: when you scan and if shows you the files that you just will recover save them on your desktop alternatively if you save them on the memory card then recovery can be hampered.
Thank, mobile pundits
But the problem is that is not the external memory, but the device's internal memory. I wanted to know how to recover the internal memory, it is possible? If so, how?
Hugs.
Trying for 5 days now with no luck

So yes, I have been trying to get windows phone to assign a drive letter to my computer. I have looked through countless posts including the subst command, registry hacks, and reverting to backup files. I lost my files when I did an update on my Lumia 635 phone. I called tech support No help. The most promising was a ytube video for reverting the phone using the backup function, but if you didn't have that turned on then your outta luck. I'm still looking for someone to know how to edit the phones registry since it is a MTP and not USB Mass Storage. We need to turn the phone into a USB Mass Storage. I have come to the conclusion it is not possible. But Nokia can walk you through some things try : 1888-665-4228 you may not have screwed up as bad as me.
