Can the S Pen be used on a standard Galaxy Tab A? - Galaxy Tab Accessories

My girlfriend got me the standard Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7" for Xmas & bought the S Pen separately. The store where she bought it misled her & told her it was compatible with the standard model. The Tab A that comes with the S Pen wasn't on sale at this store & I can't return it as the security seal has been broken.
The S Pen doesn't work with my Tab A but I was wondering if there is a hack or apk that would make it work. I have read that the S Pen is a Wacom device & requires a Wacom display but the tablet I have is pretty much identical to the S Pen model so it may be possible.
If not, which precision stylus would you recommend?

There are numerous pens out there for sale that work on all smart devices. A few to mention are Travelocity and Polaroid. Only $5 at Big Lot stores.

For anyone wondering, the answer was probably "No". The device that comes with the S Pen has hardware to interact with it. If it didn't come with an S Pen, it doesn't have the internal hardware to work with the S Pen.

No, its much larger then the Note 2.
Here is a comparison for all three since I have them..
In size order: Galaxy Note 2 < Galaxy Note 10.1 < Samsung Pen w/ Eraser
How about this one?

Check this s pen features on the website, in the easy storage bold.
One more thing. How does the pen with eraser work compare to the stock on Note 2?
Smoother, easier?

Thanks for the pics. They certainly clarified the misinformation from Samsung's website regarding this "Durable, plastic body storable and concealed inside of the Galaxy Note II handset" according to the features section in their website.
What is the difference between that one and this one on ebay?

THey are both s pen with eraser but I notice the button on both of the pens are different. The one on samsung website has a dot on its button while the one on ebay doesn't. They are both clarified as 8pi. Anybody know what does that mean? The stock pen on note 2 is 5pi I think

No idea what 5/8pi mean. I've used Wacom tablets for years and I've never heard any statistic quoted as Xpi.
As far as the difference I've been trying to figure that out as well. I think it may just come down to marketing; if you search for "s pen with eraser" on Amazon one of the first couple results is the same one seen at those eBay sellers, except the item description includes a box shot. On there you can see that the pen is clearly branded as for the Note 10.1, while the one on Samsung's store is branded for the Note II. My guess is that they originally developed the eraser pen for the 10.1, never launched it outside a few countries, and then redesigned the looks slightly for the Note II.
Someone would need to test both of them but I'd strongly suspect that they're functionally identical. On top of that, there's this: (http://www.samsung.com/us/computer/laptops-accessories/AA-DP0NE2B/US which I believe is the pen for the Samsung Series 7 Slate. Looks extremely similar, and on Amazon I see that most of the reviews are from people who purchased it to use with the 10.1.

I like this idea... interesting
Looks like Asus Padfone and I now that Padfone magick works good. But Active have a cover to protect USB port, and it will be a problem for conecting to tablet.
Agreed I would assume they would change the interface design to accommodate the usb cover. Like the port would flip out so you could plug in and flip the active into holding clips.
2 problems ... the galaxy s4 active is slightly bigger than the galaxy s4 , i wonder if the dock will still fit? also, the screen is 1200 x 800 , which is lower than the the s4's 1080p display ....
otherwise, fantastic idea, i know a few people who find that windows and mac pc's are too complicated for them, and the android OS would be perfect for them... its about time that phones realized their potential as computing platforms for the masses
I would buy this.
For up to $400. If it's GOOD.
I love hardware keys. I hate onscreen keyboards.
I want this. Well, really I want an ASUS PadFone for Verizon but that will never happen because VZ sucks.
I've been looking for the sliding qwerty keyboard like the one they have for the regular s4 but no luck

Is the compatibility issue anything more than if an S4A fits or not?
If the size of the slot is the only compatibility, it might be close enough to fit the S4A with some minor modification.
id never use that, my opinion. yet it is a nice idea, but the ubuntu phone is a little more advanced

I think this is the first post in this forum.
Definitely would like at least 32 GB. Leaning more towards the 8.4". We have a 10" tablet, and it is just too big to use one handed. And by use, I mean hold.
The weight of both tablet is relatively low. The AMOLED screen makes for a thin tablet. The ahead-of-its-time GT-P6800 7.7 tablet is amazingly thin and solid. It's still a good tablet for media playing and web surfing.
I just pre ordered the 10.5 32gb version from Best buy, I wonder how they pulled the exclusive with the 32gb. I'm in the process of putting some sample files on a flash drive to test on one of the display models. Best buy also has the bronze and white book covers for 39.99 rather than 69.99. Glad I decided to wait for the release and didn't open my Note Pro, it's already on it's way back to Samsung.
Edit: So I went and tested two video files at the local Best Buy, Pacific Rim 1080p 12gb mkv high encoding 19 quality and Timescapes mp4 2560x1440. The picture on this tablet is amazing especially the nature scenes in the Timescapes file. The stock player was able to player both files with no skips or jitters.
I pre ordered the 8.4 from Future Shop (Canada). I am keeping my Note Pro 12.2 as my home unit, the 8.4 as my traveler (Read in bed) and Nexus 5 as my phone. I have no problems with a 16 gig unit. I used the savings and bought a 64 gig microsd. After being burned by Samsung in the past ie.. software updates and coming from a Nexus background I was hesitant to purchase the 12.2 but I have to admit that it has been a nice experience. The first tablet I haven't bothered to root. I think the 8.4 will be even better. Of course I will be keeping my eyes on this year's Google IO conference just in case they mythical Google 8 is announced. I just need to find a case and glass screen protector.
I am really tempted by this new tab
Especially since I sold my Nexus 7 2013 FHD, I really would like to replace that with the new 8.4 Tab S. I miss reading books and browsing the web on my couch or bed. I don't really care for the aesthetics mainly due to the placement of the buttons, it's just weird having the phone layout of buttons on a huge tablet, I prefer to have them on the sides of the device. Not a deal breaker though. I'm just torn on whether to buy this 8.4 through amazon as I have a gift card there for 300 bucks or save a little more and wait for the new Nexus 8 or Nexus 10 if they ever announce them. I have a galaxy note 3 and being a phablet I thought it would be sufficient enough in size to not miss my nexus 7 but I was wrong. The one thing I hate about Samsung is the bloatware and difficulty in rooting the device due to knox and voiding the warranty. I'd prefer to wait for a tablet using either the tegra 4 K1(32 bit) chip or the tegra k1 (64 bit) chip because the games on it would be fabulous, but like I said I am just itching to replace my tablet I dearly miss and this samsung galaxy tab S looks very promising...Woe me
for some reason the smartwatches here in bahrain and saudi are more expensive than in the US but the phones and phablets are cheaper, wonder which range this tab s prices will be here
I preordered this online on bestbuy (in canada) because when I went to do it in stores their system didn't let them help me. is this normal? anyway if you preorder from bestbuy canada they give you the folio case for free as well I believe and theres a lexar 64gb thats on sale for 70 bucks off until the 19th...
Noticed BestBuy, Futureshop, Staples in Canada all bumped their dates back to July 4th right away. Was saying June 26 for the first day or two. Amazon still says June 26.
I wonder if it will get bumped again. I've had horrible experience ordering online from bestbuy and futureshop. I'd try staples next if they had the free cover offer too.

I started my tablet buying addiction with Chinese tablets - lol. I have owned a number of Chinese tablets , TV sticks and TV boxes. My advice is to save yourself a lot of grief and buy a name brand tablet from a recognized retailer. There are a number of issues to consider. 1) The RK3288 looks like a good chip but Rockchip is notorious for producing buggy versions of Android. I know I currently own two Rockchip devices and if it wasn't for a dedicated user base debugging and producing custom ROM's, the devices would be useless. 2) If your tablet has a hardware defect you would have to ship it all the way back to China - usually at your own expense. It could take months to get it sorted out. 3) Chinese manufacturers tend not to support devices once they are originally released and since these Chinese tablets don't usually appear on XDA you are left on your own. 4) Many Chinese Companies quickly disappear for no notice. 5) You'll be kicking yourself for not spending that extra money for that great Tab S display.
If you do by Chinese then Geekbuying is a reliable place. They have always been good to me.
Hope this help,
D

I just bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. It's really nice and I actually like the S-Pen more than I thought I would... however, I'm thinking of returning it to get a Tab S instead.
From what I see, the specs are really close between the two tablets. Main differences appear to be the AMOLED screen and slightly thinner/lighter Tab S ... but then I lose the S-Pen. Both AMOLED and scLCD screens seem to perform nicely, so that's a matter of preference I guess. I have a Galaxy S5 and the scLCD on the Note side-by-side to my S5 AMOLED screen looks pretty close.
Thoughts? Do you think the Tab S will be that much better than something like the Note 2014?
Thanks

$99 Gear Vr and Note 4

Hello. I've been trying to find myself out but no luck. What happens if you cram an "old" Galaxy Note 4 into the new Gear Vr? I've already installed the Oculus App inside. Will it say that it's not compatible with the device? Or will it work just fine? Or might need a some sort of patch to make it work with my Note 4?
Thanks in advance

Im wondering the same, especially now that I've flashed my Note 4 with a Note 5 port and the model number actually says SM-N920C.
Just finished reading amazon reviews and people are saying that the Note 4 doesn't fit! Most of us Note 4 users expected a software limitation that could be fixed with rooting or spoofing, but a hardware size issue would be a huge disappointment. I contemplated buying this VR consumer headset knowing it's not going to be compatible with the expectation of making some modifications to get it to work, but if it doesn't fit that's ridiculous! Hopefully someone shares photos or videos of their problems, and maybe we can find a workaround.

Since the announcement of the consumer Gear VR it was clear that the Note 4 will not fit in it.
There is also a visible trend that new content is sometimes unsupported by the Note 4 (mostly because of the Snapdragon variant out there which somehow causes trouble to utilize the performance needed without overheating problems).
The Note 4 version is now over a year old and in my humble opinion it is/was a developer device but to get more testers on board it was called "innovator edition".

I read the specs and the Note 4 and 5 have the same micro usb connector. Is this correct? So what's keeping a Note 4 from being hacked to work with New Gear VR?

That's somewhat good news. Now someone needs to confirm that the software works. I am surprised a Note 4 xda developer has answered this question yet.

Dn5 for the n910c works perfectly with the note4 vr innovator edition. You need to install the oculus apps using n4 buildprop but after that you can swap back to n5 buildprop. I don't know much about the snapdragon variants but if you want to know anything about the exynos n4 and gear vr just hit me up

I'd also like to know what people mean when they say it 'doesn't fit'. I am interested in getting a VR device, but the Innovator Edition is ridiculously expensive for some reason. Can you squeeze it in? Or does it really not fit. Maybe I'll head to a Best Buy and jam my Note 4 in the Consumer Edition to see for myself.
Better to ask forgiveness than permission.
Edit: I found the Innovator Edition for the Note 4 certified refurbished at Amazon for $150 and made a separate thread.

Even if it didn't fit.. why couldn't you use rubber bands or something to strap it to the VR as a rudimentary workaround? Or maybe even take part of the VR's plastic off.
I was going to buy one to test myself. From what I understand, you can make it fit. With root , you can fake it to think it's what ever device you want it to be.
The problem will be overheating and under power, and screen resolution. But Samsung really screwed themselves with this non removable battery deal..

If you do buy the newer version, let us know what the issue with the fit is. If it's something that can be remedied by modifying the back cover or removing it, I might return the Innovator Edition I just bought and get the Consumer Edition.

I was just given one of these as a gift. Love it! The new version has a power port so you don't drain the battery. Instead of separate cartridges for each phone all of the devices fit into one set up using Springs and spacers. I'm running this with my note 5 and couldn't be happier.

How snug is the fit of the Note 5 in terms of it's width? The Note 4 is only a few milimeters smaller in terms of width, but I bet that could be the difference between wedging it in and not getting it in at all.

Since it is the largest device this was designed for; the fit is very snug. You would have issues with the corners if you tried to fit a note 4 into this. Your best bet would be a refurbished innovator edition.
@baja, I am very well aware which devices this was designed for.

Does the Galaxy S2 come with a stylus?

I like to make a lot of notes for math / computer science subjects.
I already own a Galaxy Note 4 phone that comes with a stylus -- will this work on the Tab S2?
The S2 doesn't support an active stylus like the one with your Note. They made (make?) a Note tablet, which did.

You can use a stylus, but not an active stylus and it will work much differently than an active stylus like on the Note. A normal stylus will work just like a finger.

you can use any capacitive pen (some are also called stylus/bamboo), however, none have the stylus pen technology.
the cheaper tab A model does have the S PEN technology (also stylus)
all models work with capacitive pens and your fingers, but not all work with stylus pens(these are the capacitive ones)....
please correct me if I am wrong.
I came here to ask the reason why Samsung designed the cheaper Tab A with S pen technology while the tab S2 was not.
By the way , the TAB s2 is hat...
