Hi all! I've got a Virgin Mobile 626s and earlier this month I got a system update notification that was about 145 mb. I tried installing, but when it rebooted to install, it simply boots into my custom recovery. Is this because I am rooted, or because I am running a custom recovery? Or both?
In any event, would it be safe to un-root and/or revert back to stock recovery, then install the update, then re-root/reinstall recovery? I'm a noob when it comes to this stuff, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance :good:

Been flashing ROMs for months.Going back to stock then update..
With this last flash to Stock and after applying Update through recovery the phone will not root.
After reinstall packages after Update was applied the phone just boots and does not go into second recovery screen.
SU was never installed.
Any ideas what mucked up the Stock flash tp where One click or update root does not work?
Found the solution
New Update file
Hi everyone,
I'm having an issue updating my wife's rooted and unlocked HTC One.
I flashed stock recovery for the process to go smoothly but the update is always stuck at roughly 25%. I switch off the phone, it tries again and gets stuck again at 25% with a red mark.
I tried deleting the update and downloading it again through the GUI without luck.
I suspected 3rd party mods like the battery percentage hack, but it still didn't work after reverting it.
P.S. I also have an HTC One, had an issue updating because I had CWM, but the update worked like a charm when I flashed stock recovery.
Any clues?
Bump
1. where are you flashing the update from? - is it a zip file or is it the one the pone received OTA?
2. Which recovery are you using?
3. Which Rom are you on?
So, I rooted my developer edition M7 and then reflashed the stock recovery so that I could install the OTA 4.3 update. Everything went fine until the update started installing. Now it's been installing for the past hour with no progress in the progress bar.
Can anyone please help me? does it usually take an hour? Is there a way to stop the installation without bricking it?
Any advice is desperately needed!
Do you have the stock rom and stock kernel (boot.img)?
And your bootloader is relocked/locked?
Yes, i believe so. In my efforts to get rid of cwm recovery, I used the stock nandroid for the developer edition from this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248997&page=5 though it didn't get rid of the cwm recovery so I flashed the stock recovery from ARHD.
Can I reboot the phone by holding down the power button and start over?

Also, my bootloader is currently unlocked.
Well, I broke down and did a hard reset of the phone. It froze once more during the installation process, but ultimately concluded. However, it did not update to 4.3, but instead stayed with 4.1.2. I guess I'm just grateful that the phone is still working.
Anyway, i'll just have to research more.
@ThickG

That's awesome man,, thank you!
On stock 4.2.2 rooted and perfectly happy for now, last time i tried to flash recovery i bricked the phone and don't want to deal with that again if i can help it. Do i need to flash a custom recovery or can i get by with just stock for now?
What to do about OTA? Is root keeper an option and just accept the updates as they come?

You don't need a recovery unless you want to back up your rom or install other ones.
As for the OTA, people were reporting root stuck when installing 24A, as long as you have stock recovery it should install ok. Worst case is you need to root it again.
it all depends what you want to do bc i had my phone rooted without a custom recovery and it worked just fine using like xposed but if you want to flash a rom or do nandroids then you need a custom recovery. I also took an OTA like a dumbass and it gave me a boot loop with a certification error and it took me a month to fix it so a) plz don't take an OTA and b) get a custom recovery if you want to just be safe, i would if i were you.
Thnx, will try auto rec again last time. What to do after install? Last time it installed, it opened and that was it, couldn't get it to reboot, do l need to do a back up first? What are the steps immediately after install?
I have stock rom with custom recovery (TWRP). This morning my G2 download a Verizon OTA automatically but I postponed the installation until tomorrow morning. How do I prevent this from automatically installing? If it installs, will it cause boot loop since I have TRWP? If it does, how do I stop it? Thanks.
Same issue
I'm having the same problem, i was asked to install a new software version this morning on my rooted G2 without a custom rom. I delayed install but don't dare do it because of custom recovery. What should we do?
I'll tell you what you shouldn't do is accidentally click to have it install. I'm stuck in Recovery now. Any recommendations on what I should flash? I can still push to it through ADB. I was on the last OTA but rooted with recovery.

Have you tried freezing the System Updates MUC task using something like TIBU? I have that (along with other programs) frozen and I don't get the notice.
Try long pressing the notification, from there you can disable the notification.
