F.A.Q. Frequently Asked Questions Teclast x98 - Teclast X98 Air 3G

Hi guys,
every new Teclast user could be interested to this topic.
Sorry for my english, it is not my first language...
Please, tell me any other F.A.Q. to put in this list.
Q: Help me, when I try to turn on my tab I display various errors written in English, what can I do?
A: Plug your Tab and charge it, after 5 minutes try to swich it on.
Q: Help, my tablet cannot switch on!
A: Have you tried to switch it on by pressing Power + Vol+?
Q: Help, my tablet turns on and enters directly into Windows / Android, there's no longer the dual boot choice!
A: Turn on the tablet by pressing Power + Vol+, fla the dual boot option with the two small icons in the upper left.
Q: I heard that there is the "Boot to Windows / Android", how can I use it?
A: To use the Boot To Windows / Android must be sure you have the BIOS updated to rev 2.02, note that the last tablet shipped by Teclast have the latest release of the Bios and they are fully compatible; You can find "Boot to" App here on XDA.
Q: When I turn off the tablet (from Windows) it takes so long to be able to turn on again?
A: Disable Fast Startup in the Windows settings, the path Control Panel -> Power Saving Options -> System settings -> Specify power botton actions; alternatively, you can use SlidetoShutDown.exe located in C: \ Windows \ System32, trivially just create you a shortcut to this file on your desktop and use it to turn off..
Q: How can I identify the correct Product ID of my Tab?
A: See the Product ID located back in the tablet (example).
Q: Can I use the tablet as router? (Only for 3G versions)
A: Sure, it's called tethering, unfortunately not all the phone companies allow you to use it; You can force it using custom APN.
Q: What is the right custom rom for me?
A: All Android custom rom are divided in Teclast Air II and Teclast Air 3G (cell module); Teclast Air III is compatible with Air II custom roms; for some models of Air 3G, we discovered they have a different camera and you can have problems with it.
Q: Can I update UEFI Bios?
A: Do you really need to update? With 2.02 version you will fix battery Drain in Windows, if you want to fix it see Guides on XDA.
Q: Can I use USB OTG to read pendrives?
A: Of course, just with an ordinary OTG adapter, Google!
Q: Can I install Windows 7/8/10 64 Bit?
A: You can Install Windows x64 only on "Pro" tablets, any others must use x86 (32 bits) OS, If you don't want to brick.
Q: Is the original Windows image activated??
A: Yes, Teclast ship its tablets with original license by MS.
Q: The stock Android ROM (original) I do not so good, are there any alternatives available?
A: Of course, the brilliant developer Mirek190 creates its own custom rom, you can use Intel MFT to install it.
Q: Why do I have trouble with the pair / pairing a Bluetooth device?
A: Try to turn off all connections (3G, WiFi and Bluetooth), and then turn on only the bluetooth to pair.
Other F.A.Q. here (I decided to create a separate topic, because we have a Forum now!)

XP on Shift, Need WLAN Driver!

First, thank you to the developersfor all your hard work that made the Windows XP "downgrade" possible on the shift.
I now have a Shift running running XP tablet edition, and it does so beautifully!
However, Everything I've been finding online in regards to the WLAN driver is for Vista. I can't, for the life of me, seem to find a working XP WLAN driver.
If anyone out there is chuckling to themselves and thinking, "hehe, well I've got that driver right here!" Would you be so kind as to post it?
Thanks in advance.
I think you managed to start the wireless using the ioperm from cygwin and the wf-on.bat file. When you start the wireless go to device manager and you will se there something with "!", just right click and use update driver, point to the folder where you downloaded the wireless driver from the HTC support site and that will work great.
PS: the guys are using a mod'ed sdbus.sys to use the wireless but the SD card then stops working... a way for both to work that I discovered is like this...
you just started your device, ok? now go to sleep mode with it and wake, now you have both sd card and wireless working ! then what's the catch? everytime your OS restarts, it's needed to sleep and wake again to make that work, I think is an exploit in the sleep module, you can investigate more using some development software if you're interested
no dice
Dalvus, when I try that, it tells me that "The specified location does not contain information about your hardware."
Any suggestions?
Regardless, thanks for the info about the SD slot, that's going to be really helpful if and when I get my WLAN working
so I understand your problem...
so here is the scenario, tell me if I'm wrong. Your wireless device doesn't appear in the control panel and the green light from the low level menu is not blinking. You should have been activated the wireless before installed Windows XP, so you need cygwin, a program that allow a linux shell to be run in Windows environment and to add the ioperm application while installing it.
I also used Windows XP Tablet PC SP3 to which I slipstreamed a file so it could read a VL serial and make it 100% genuine with no hack.
The problem at your device is that you do NOT have wireless chipset activated.
SO this is exactly what you need to do:
1.)start your device, let windows load, and then check your leds, if the led below the wireless/bluetooth is blinking blue that means bluetooth is activated, if it's blinking green that means wireless is activated, if blue and green as well are blinking, both of them are activated, so SKIP to 3.), if not blinking carry on to 2.)
2.)none of two leds are blinking so you need to activate them AND make them been recognized by Windows XP so install cygwin in c:\, just google for cygwin is free, when the installation starts, make sure that you check the ioperm program from devel submenu. now run cygwin.bat from where you just installed and type there:
ioperm –i then hit enter
exit then hit enter
now that you've just installed the I/O permision, google for hsect2.exe and place that .exe file in \cygwin\bin\
download these here http://dl.fisier.ro/files/1gjld5kjleh3fij/controls.zip.html and place in \cygwin\ where you installed or everywhere you want, where is a folder named controls, let it that way, now use the WF on and BT on to make it start, but still unrecognized by Windows/
3.) so now the leds blue and green are blinking, that's good, now restart windows and let it fully load... go to sleep mode and wake it, your wireless is now been recognized and sd slot as well, FULL functional, install the driver from the device manager and you're set to go
so i've done all of that, and i had already installed and run cygwin, i have both green and blue LEDs blinking under the bluetooth/wifi illustration... i restarted the pc, i put it in sleep mode, brought it back up, tried installing the drivers, and i still get the same "The specified location does not contain any information about your hardware." message.
Am I using the right drivers? "sd8686"
I just don't understand the problem, and it's looking more and more like I might have to reinstall xp to correct the issue..
I don't think it's necessary to reinstall Windows. To check if ok do this...
you said the blue and green [BT and WiFi] are blinking, ok. But Windows DO NOT recognize the device in any way, it DOES NOT see it !
Now go to sleep mode, and then wake it. Now in device manager you should see the "!" sign assigned to Marvel SD8686, if you can't see it, you can't do anything about it
PS: I'm selling my Shift in 1 week if no bluetooth support is for WinMobile part, I need to use all features
okay, so for some reason, i've been able to get teh bluetooth to work. so hooray for that!
but i'm still having the same issue with the WLAN. I've attached a screenshot of my device manager.
as you can see, no matter what i've tried, (including all the help offered from this thread), the shift still does not see the wireless card.
any further help would be greatly appreciated
note: the WLAN LED on the front panel of the shift IS blinking both blue and green but apparently the shift still does not see the WLAN adapter
you weren't paying atention...
one thing is to activate WiFi and because XP... other thing is to recognize it.
blinking means activated... now sleep it ! and wake it... it would recognize the WLAN...
if you restart XP, you must do the sleep/wake again to make it recognize
I have been listening, I assure you.
As I stated, I've tried EVERYTHING mentioned in the comments provided, including making the Shift sleep and then reawakening it. I'm still left in the same situation as you see in the screenshot above.

Android on HTC Touch Diamon

I have an HTC Touch Diamond DIAM100
I'd like to install Android or WM6.5. These forums contain too many information and I can't filter them. That starts with the many HTC models in this forum (MDA, CDMA, ???) I would be glad, if you could help me a little.
1. What Android version is best for my phone?
2a. Does everything work when changing O/S?
2b. Is it faster than WM6.1?
3. Where can I download Android?
4. Where do I find a How To?
5. Where would I find WM6.5?
6. Is it faster then WM6.1 on my phone?
7. Where do I find a How To?
Thanks a lot!
I just installed the Android rom found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=907509
I don't think you'll be able to use it on a daily basis, as it's somewhat emulated (needs Win to run, it's not native...yet), eats the battery way too fast and there are several issues that don't work properly (yet). For example, in my case, the Wi-fi performance is horrible, the speed is somewhere between 5-10KB/s. The developer knows about this and it may be fixed on the next version. Also, connecting to my PC doesn't work, at least on Win 7, because it complains about missing drivers and stuff. I have to turn on USB storage mode to be able to copy files on the device. After turning it off, Android sees the internal storage as empty, and there's no way to fix it unless I reboot the phone.
If you want to install Windows Mobile 6.5, there are plenty of ROMs here and it's easy to do it if your device is security unlocked. Take your time and read the tutorials on the ROM development forum, you'll get it.

[Q] USB Tethering

I use my Lumia 920 as my main communications device with unlimited internet/tethering from my provider. The Wifi internet sharing feature works fine but is a HUGE drain on the battery. Plus I have concerns about the safety of wifi!
Ideally I wanted to tether to my computer using USB but there doesn't seem to be a lot of information about regarding this with WP8.
Has anyone found a way to do this? Have I been missing something obvious?
I would recommend against using your phone as a router, it will simply die a lot faster due to high hardware stress.
http://microsoftarena.net/usb-tethering-in-windows-phone-7/
WP8 should be similar.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately, this doesn't work on either the Lumia 900 or 920. Nokia don't seem to have built the option the same as Samsung.
As for the hardware stress, thankfully in the UK we get a 2 year warranty! It'll be up to Nokia to repair/replace if my phone dies using one of the built in features
For the record, wired tethering does work on the Samsung Ativ S. The trick was finding the drivers for my 64-bit PC.
First, you need the Diagnosis app for Samsung phones. This is included, but hidden, on each phone. To access it, type ##634# (##MFG#) into the phone dialer. After it's run once, you can launch it from the Apps list like normal.
Next, to access the USB control, type *#7284# in the numpad that the app displays.
Select "QC RmNetComposite" from the USB Path Control radio button options. This will take the phone out of its default MTP (Media Transfer Protocol) mode, and make it act as a Qualcomm USB modem. The phone will need to reboot when you select this option; let it do so.
When the phone boots up again, it will not appear in Windows Explorer or the Windows Phone app. You'll get a "Found new hardware" notification, but the odds are that the drivers will fail to install automatically. We'll need to install them manually.
To do that, first download the attached ZIP file included with this post. Extract its contents somewhere handy.
Next, open Device Manager. This can be done from the Start menu/screen, or by opening Computer Management, or by typing "devmgr.msc" into Start search or the Run dialog and then hitting Enter. It will require Administrator permissions.
You should see four "Qualcomm composite device" entries that don't have drivers. We only need two, maybe even one, of them. It's possible to tell them apart, but for simplicity's sake I'm just going to tell you to do the next steps for each of them.
Double-click one of those entries, or right-click on it, and select Update Driver.
Choose the "Browse" option, and navigate to the folder you extracted from the ZIP file. You don't have to go any deeper, so long as the "Include Subfolders" option is checked.
Hit Next and, if a warning pops up about unsigned drivers, choose to install anyhow. There is actually a signature; the drivers will work on 64-bit Windows. I don't know what that complaint is about. If it just says that it couldn't find a driver, that's fine; that's one of the two devices we don't need, probably.
Once you have the Qualcomm USB Modem and (possibly) Qualcomm Diagnostics devices installed, you're ready to configure the modem in Windows. To do this, open Network and Sharing Center (or Network Connections in XP) and chose the Create new connection option.
Select a "Dial-up connection". Don't worry; it's neither as slow nor as noisy as a classic modem.
This next part is probably carrier-specific. For T-Mobile US, it was ridiculously easy: type a name for the connection (doesn't matter what), in the place for the number you dial, put "*99#" (without the quotes), and leave the password and username blank.
Try to connect! If it doesn't work, look up the WP7 settings for wired tethering to your carrier; they should be on this forum somewhere.
When you want to get back to normal (MTP) mode on the USB port, just repeat the first three steps but choose "MTP Mode" instead of "QC RmNetComposite" and let the phone reboot again.
Something which may help: I found that the PC would lose data connection while the phone used it. To make the PC's data connection more reliable, turn off data usage on the phone. The modem should still function. There are a ton of other tweaks to configure the modem driver which might also help, but for basic usage, the steps provided here work.
I recommend copying the driver bundle onto your phone (or its SD card) so that if you need to tether a PC that isn't already set up, you can get the drivers without needing Internet access. It's quite possible to copy Zip files to and from the phone via MTP mode.

my htc 8x dosent work with these code ##634# work but *#7284# doesnt work
these drivers don't seem to work for windows 8.1. Any idea where to get them?
No, sorry. It took me hours of searching to find them for Win7. They should, in theory, be pretty standard drivers; you could maybe find ones that work for an Android phone with the same Qualcomm USB modem and tweak the INF file to get them to install for the Windows phone. I don't have an easy solution, though.
The USB tethering code (*#7284#) doesn't work on my Sprint Atic S Neo. Is this a known issue on the Sprint version of this phone?
For some reason Windows 8 x64 doesn't like these drivers. It complains there isn't a hash for the file. I guess back to test-signing mode....

Thanks for the drivers
I found it interesting that additional features appeared in Ativ S T899M after diags turned on (##MFG# replies with Odyssey_121205 on diagnostics page) EXCEPT the ability to gain better control of APNs.
With my Ativ S (T899M again) the #7284# does nothing when entered into the diagnostic app.
I was wondering if there is a decent listing of all (or at least some) of the diagnostic codes.
whoops!

WHOOPS!
Missed the star in front of the hash when I entered the command. Should have been *#7284# which works just fine. Should have done more than copy and paste.
also found the complete listing by W_O_L_F ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2311626 )

There's even more things hidden in there that's available by using the native toast launcher in the hacking forum.
I have a Sprint ATIV S Neo and *#7284# does nothing.
However...
##3424# takes me to the proper screen (Micro USB Test).
Still haven't found drivers for 8.1 yet though...
You'll need to use the Native toast launcher to bring it up.

Hi everyone, especially the writer of the quoted post, i know this is a old post but i just want to tell how to install the driver on Windows 8.1 64 bit in case if someone ended up here.
Windows 8.1 64 bit won't allow users to install unsigned driver like the driver he attached (Actually, the driver is signed, but i forget the reason why windows recognize it as unsigned driver. Please refer to the previous post). So, to make windows allow that, use this instruction:
http*://www*.howtogeek.*com/167723/how-to-disable-driver-signature-verification-on-64-bit-windows-8.1-so-that-you-can-install-unsigned-drivers/
nb: remove the star. i'm new here, so i can't post a link.
After you follow the instruction, then install the driver as the guy described.
I've tried this method, and it's work!

[Q] Windows Phone on Asus Memopad HD7

Since the tablet is stuck at Jellybean, and theres no asus updates to KK or L, I would like to try and install windows phone to it. I read somewhere that windows was opening up and giving out thier tablet os for free. IS this possible.
1) Windows Phone is not a tablet OS. It could theoretically be adopted into one, but it is not actually one. Microsoft's tablet OS for ARM is Windows RT.
2) Windows for small tablets is free.. To OEMs. Not to normal people. In fact, you can't buy it at all; it only comes pre-installed.
3) You don't just "install" mobile OSes the way you do PC ones. They have to be customized for the devices they run on.
4) Short answer: NO
Ah, okay, thank you. I'll try KitKat then, just have to figure out how, Furthest I have gotten is rooting. Both CWM and Team Win says the device isnt supported.

Guides
Gaining ROOT on the GA1312, Android 4.4.4.
Requirements
Two spare minutes, if that.
Steps
Open Settings and scroll down to Factory Settings
It will as for a password, enter *#hct#root#
You should now have ROOT access.
Entering the Recovery / Recovery Procedure
According to Eonon this is the Recovery Procedure for the GA1312:
Please long press the power button and press the reset hole at the same time. And loose the reset hole.
Then head unit will make beep-beep sound.
Then please loose the power button and press the power button one time.
It will show update and system recovery interface.
You can short press the power button to make the option. Please choose "recovery system from backup" And long press the power button to confirm it.
After attempting this procedure and failing multiple times I started searching for my own method of getting in to the recovery. After about an hour of slamming buttons I discoverd the following method.
Power the unit make sure you have the screen open.
Press the reset button to power down the system but leave the screen open.
Press and hold the reset button for about 3+ seconds, you should be able to see the screen go slightly darker.
As soon as you release the reset button, press the power button and hold it for 5 seconds. (One-thousand-and-one, one-thousand-and-two, etc).
Release the power button for 1 second then hold it in again for another 2 seconds.
Release the power button and wait for the screen to attempt to close, before it completely closes- hit the open button to get it to stay open.
You should see the system load into the recovery.
Please note this can be done with the screen closed then you open it but during my experience this has only worked one or two times. Every other shot has resulted in the small LCD displaying "INIT" and a black screen.
Installing the Malaysk ROM on Eonon GA1312
Just let me point out this is a detailed version of the original instructions for the Malaysk ROM for the Eonon GA1312, which highlights issues which may be encountered by just following the original instructions.
Another note is that once Malaysk ROM is installed, the small LCD will only show "INIT" as it's unable to detect the System being ready.
Requirements
The latest Malaysk ROM from here.
A 2 GB SD Card, Minimum.
A WiFi connection to reinstall your apps.
Some Spare Time.
Steps
First things, first. Before even downloading the ROM you should check that you can enter the recovery mode using the guide(s) above. Not sure what a recovery mode is?
If you can't access the recovery, I wouldn't recommend flashing this ROM at all. Look around and find a recovery procedure. Another note: Using a ROOT tool to access the recovery is an easy way to get in to the recovery BUT it will not help you if the ROM starts playing silly buggers, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
If you have successfully been able to boot in to recovery mode twice or more, I would say you're free to continue.
Download and open the Malaysk ROM Archive you downloaded (for the GA1312 you will want to get the "Only for RK3188 800X480" version).
Move the 'update.img' to the root directory of your 'GPS Card' (it should look something like this once complete X:\update.img).
Now we want to clear any settings on the Stock ROM as for some reason it will boot-loop if you skip this step, go to Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset, then Reset Machine.
Now that there is nothing to interfere with the installation you will want to reinsert the GPS Card in to your head-unit and enter the recovery one again.
First we want to select the Wipe & Factory Reset Data option, this will remove any last scraps of data on the main system partition.
Once complete we want to select the third option down. (right now I can't exactly remember what it was... but I will update this in the future!)
This is the part where you should dash inside, grab a beverage and your phone as it may take some time.
If your head-unit was anything like mine you will have to use the reset button when the device attempts to start for the first time (I literally left it going for an hour, I'm certain it isn't first time setup, which I then had to recharge my battery, thanks tiny MX-5 battery).
Now you will either boot in to the ROM or encounter another boot-loop, either way we are going to have to factory reset once again and reinstall the ROM- I found that this will stop any application crashes. So either using Settings > Backup & reset > Factory data reset, then Reset Machine or the Recovery > Wipe & Factory Reset Data option
Once again, it's the third option down, just like before it may require a hard-reset; but give it 5 - 10 minutes this time.
Once restarted you should now be able to enjoy all the extra features of Malaysk ROM!
Overall, I enjoy using Malaysk ROM- the only downside I have with it is the rounded buttons which compared to stock KitKat look somehow even more dated in today's Android world. I still wait for a developer to start a vanilla CyanogenMod or even better, a Paranoid Android port... One day...

I recently installed the GA1312 unit and I think it is awesome. I do have one question though, how do I get the music that I play off the SD card to play random? I see two buttons that I can press but from what I can tell they just repeat the same song or repeat the whole play list in alphabetical order. Thanks for any help.

I have been using SanDisk 16GB MicroSDHC and SanDisk Ultra MicroSD XC I 64GB (I'll add a link to the pictures here soon). As for the 1TB USB connection it's just a Seagate Backup Plus Portable Drive. All these devices (well the devices over 32GB) will have to be formatted with a tool like Fat32 Formatter, but there a bunch to choose from.
Both should be able to support 64GB cards, but I would just get one and test it in case. The 64GB I tested was in the GPS Card slot on the GA1312. I will check the power issue later today as I always remove the eHDD from the car as it contains most my music.
I have been testing everything on the Stock ROM currently but I keep being struck with the 1GB of application memory always being full, so I may make the switch soon.

Thank you!
For music I ditched the stock player as its very limited and installed Poweramp Music Player and I have got to say it works wonderfully as a car Music player, the buttons are big enough to have no issues hitting and the equalizer is easy to configure. The main app is a trial it self but you can probably find a few coins around the place to buy the full version, if not (don't worry we have all been there) there is BlackPlayer Music Player which is free and has shuffle button right at the top of the artist list.
Thanks for the info! Well...gonna but two 64gb microSD ehehe i do have a 32 And a 16... But i need more space...much more!
btw blackplayer(great player wich i use with One + One) will not work propper on car...i tried it! The landscape, buttons are not the best for our unit, The best after tried a few music APP is poweramp!
Rock On
Thanks for the info vSean. I downloaded and installed PowerAmp. I like it a lot better than the stock music player, the EQ for it is pretty awesome! I even purchased the full version of it...
The forum won't let me reply directly to the original post until I post at least 10 times.... cuz I'm a N00B!

No problems, glad you like it!
I only just passed that annoying post limit myself, it's hard being an Android casual.
Thank you! Everything works very fine!
Any ideas to solve the 'init' problem yet?

I haven't been able to find anything to fix that issue. I'm pretty sure it's to do with the custom ROMs not providing the required / correct information so we may have to ask about in the Malaysk ROM thread.

There is no such thing as an Eonon GA1312, this is just a Klyde device with an Eonon badge on it, this is the same as any other MTCB head unit and all info on it already exists in the main MTCB head unit sections, you should have read it first before starting this thread, all you have done is duplicated info that is already known and clogged up the forums.
Hey all.
I ended up grabbing a GA1312 on a risk as I could not find documentation on it anywhere. No manual/Wiring Diagram/whatnot.
Turns out the only place it is located is on the unit itself in PDF format. Not even a disc/printed one in the case.
I'm sticking with the stock ROM as it seems pretty nice, but I do have some projects with it I'm going to look into. I want to provide those, my notes, and the Manual for your viewing.
1. Wifi/3G Feature -- So far this is a lie. There is no port for a sim card. No "Network" applet in the settings area. The manual discusses that "3G" is achieved by attaching a 3G usb dongle to it, then connecting to the Wifi generated by the usb dongle for internet. That's just WIFI.
2. Changing the name of the device. Not the Bluetooth. Still looking for how to do that.
3. Looking to address font size and screen res. The manual indicates ability to do 1024x600 as well as 800x400. Looking, also, to adjust font to fit more on the screen inside apps.
4. I was able to get a 64GB and 128GB transflash to operate at the same time in both ports (SD and GPS). You have to let the system format them before it will mount them. Do this via settings > storage.
5. The Brake cable is a ground. I only point this out as it's not anywhere I could see except in one place in the manual, which you may not have prior to wiring. Brake being ground is normal, but my last deck, it was wired into the light on the hot side.
6. I want to extend the wifi. I thought that the GPS antenna would double as it, but it turns out that there is a very small antenna off the back of the device that is for Wifi. Crap-Tier range.
7. Tested external keyboard and mouse successfully.
8. Want to figure out if I can get the stock system to do profiles.
9. RAM doesn't seem to be an issue so far.
10. When the system/car is off the deck still illuminates. It's inactive, but still illuminates. Gotta address that somehow.
If anyone can tell me if other ROMs address some of these, I'd be grateful. I'm not looking to just reload the system for funsies.

There is documentation for "it" all over this forum - its just a Klyde unit, same as all the others, read the wiki !! Its an MTCB headunit, Eonon just rebadge it.

I saw that it was the Klyde unit re-branded, though I didn't see it via the wiki, nor was I 100% on whose was whose re-branded so thanks for that. I also couldn't find a manual so easily for that one. That may explain why your "it" is in quotation marks. I put this info in a Specific-to-the-Model/Brand thread because the info I provided was specific to this model/brand. I apologize if you saw my contribution as unnecessary.
Forget Eonon, even Klyde isnt that important, there are about 10 manufacturers of these units and theyre all pretty much the same, even the software is interchangeable, read the wiki and reads the main threads in the the 3 MTCB head units sections for more info.
If everyone did what you did there would be thousands of separate threads about the exact same unit with slightly different fascia designs ! The info you provided is EXACTLY the same for all other units, regardless of manufacturer or reseller brand (Eonon, Erising, Pumpkin etc), there is NOTHING specific to this unit.
