What version is on your phone. Towel root only works on 4.4.2 I believe

Right now you cant Root the S5 in Lollipop. You need to downgrade to Android 4.4 Kitkat to be able to Root and after that, upgrade to 5.11 lollipop.

If you have 5.0 you can't root or downgrade. Also there is no root available above 5.0.

[Q] How do I change device status from custom to official on the AT&T S5?

I rooted my AT&T Galaxy S5 on Android 4.4.4, then I updated to Lollipop (because I didn't want root anymore). The phone still says custom when it boots up and in download mode it says "System Status: Custom" (and it's not rooted anymore). I cannot downgrade with Odin because it gets stuck at the bootloader (I was able to boot the phone up and it works now but it still says custom when I boot it up. I'm still on Lollipop). Just so you know, I didn't update with safestrap because I never installed it. How do I change the device status to "System Status: Official"? Please respond to this because I would greatly appreciate it.

Then you will have to wait til there's root found.
Sorry to hijack your thread but if I'm on rooted Lollipop can I use Triangle Away to get rid of the custom? The TA doesn't really keep up with the newer devices.

Unable to update AT&T Galaxy S5 to Lollipop on stock Touchwiz

I have an AT&T Galaxy S5 that has the default version of Touchwiz on it, with Android 4.4.2. I never rooted or flashed any roms on this device, yet I am unable to get OTA updates.
My friend, who has the same phone with AT&T, updated to Lollipop a while ago, and recently got another update, both of which I didn't get. Whenever I check for updates on my phone, under the About Device section in system settings, it says "Software Update Interrupted. No update is available for your device at this time. Please try again in 24 hours."
What can I do to update my device to Lollipop?
Thanks,
Sid
Do not update your phone with the OTA muniz_ri has all the files you need to flash your phone and keep root if you upgrade with the OTA you will be locked down and never able to root your phone. Just search ...

Yeah I realized that Lollipop locks the boot loader and can't be rooted, but I didn't know where to get the rom.
Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the link! I'm not quite sure if I want to root yet, I think I'll just stick with 4.4.2 for now.

Need help with root on S5 (AT&T)

I am having trouble rooting my S5 (SM-G900A) . I tried using the Towelroot method with the different codes, it always said that the phone is currently not supported. Since I really don't know that much about rooting, it would reaally be helpful for me to have an easy-to-understand explanaition on how to get this thing rooted.
Root S5 At&T
Hi, I have the same problem, I have an S5 from ATT with lollipop 5.0, I tried to root it and now is showing me a notification that says that I have to take the phone to an ATT center to undo whatever was done, but no root, if you had any help with this topic please letme know, thank you
If you have lollipop installed, there is no root method and no way to downgrade. Boot loader is locked down like fort Knox as well. Not many devs use this 2 year old phone anymore.
super duper easy root

You can't flash back. If you have taken the 5.0 or later update, THERE IS NO POSSIBLE WAY TO ROOT OR DOWNGRADE CURRENTLY.

I have Android 4.4.2 installed, but Towelroot still does not work. I bought the phone back in the USA, then unlocked it and took it to Germany two years ago. For this reason I can't get any newer Android versions.....

Same problem here. Got a code-unlocked AT&T S5 on T-mobile SIM running 4.4.2. Kernel is from July, so Towel root doesn't work.
AP: G900AUCU2ANG3
CP: G900AUCU2ANG3
CSC: G900AATT2ANG3
I want to do the following:
1- Root the phone without loosing the unlock
2- Update to Android 5
3- Replace the OS by unbranded android, ideally also get rid of the samsung bloatware as well.
Is it possible? I Spend 8 hours already looking for answers, but none f them apply to my specs.
Many thanks

Actually Giefroot works on any device below 5.0 . Proof: https://cve.mitre.org/cgi-bin/cvename.cgi?name=CVE-2014-7911 ( this is one of the exploits that Giefroot uses.)

You can't do the OTA update anymore because its not available anymore. But you could download the OTA update file and sideload it.

Thank you very much for your reply. Good to know someone knows about this stuff. Just couple more questions if you could help.
1. Will the link mentioned by me in previous post work to root my phone with build G900AUCU2ANG3 and kernel date of July? http://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g900and3tong3keeprootota-zip-t2862299
2. How could I download the OTA update file to sideload it. Is there a link to download?
Thanks again for your help.

1. Yes, you don't need the OTA because you are already on NG3 so just start from step 2.
It works! Thanks so much. Now I have a rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 on running Android 4.4.2. Baseband G900AUCU2ANG3. Phone was originally from AT&T, unlocked and rooted, currently being used on T-Mobile.
1- How do I upgrade to a current Android version?
2- How can I remove all AT&T bloatware and have an unbranded phone?
Thanks.

you will lose root. There is no known root for 6.0. There is a hack for 5.1.1 but I never tried it.

Root not possible?

Hello i just bought an at&t galaxy s5 on ebay with firmware 5.1.1 G900AUCU4C015. From what I've read so far there is no root possible for this version. Maybe downgrade to older version to root, if so than links? Thanks
No not possible.

I tried that and it didn't work. Towelroot doesn't work either. Next to texting my phone is used primarily for listening music in my car which is made even more pleasant by using Viper4Android. If this phone is not rootable I'll dump it for a compatible model. Can anyone confirm?

Unfortunately "try to root" does not guarantee root as I found out.
Lollipop is not rootable.
