Updating is easy and if Sony PC Companion is malfunctioning, you could use Flashtool ( get it here )
After that you can download the latest firmware ( ftf format ) here
There are some guides on how to flash the latest firmware, and don't worry flashing won't void your warranty or root your device.
This is the best and the most informative click me
Good luck
Hi
If I do that, will ota updates work in future?
Don't have time to fiddle around too much now and again every time there's an update,
Any ideas how to get it to pick up the ota update, which I'm sure has already been released for its region?
There's a thread around here with a tool to download the official full firmware files per region and flash them to your phone.
As long as you use a region that's compatible (with radios and all) the effect should be a perfectly fresh installed stock phone that will pick up OTA's just like any other official firmware.
sony flashtool or something? I can't remember.
Hi,
The firmware thats on the phone is global region,
23.0.A.2.93 - Unbranded - GLOBAL (1286-9917) #1
But i dont see lollipop updates for it.
Which region firmware should i use to flash?? Which would work 100%
Pls help with some advise asap which will work

I bought SGS that was unlocked from orange (UK) then sold in another country (mine)...
1. Does unlocking procedure include rooting?
2. Is this prohibits me from getting official update through Kies?
A simple yes/no will do, although if u answer no plz help me out and explain
(had a hd2 before this one, did some rom flashing.., never did unlocking though)
Unlocked and rooted are two different things and neither should affect kies offering an update.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
hopr this helps!!

1.No..(flash via odin to some unlocked firmware)
2.It depends..(ie) if for the previous problem, you flash a firmware not from your region then no your kies wont be able to give you an official update.. so download a region specific firmware( for ex dd means india, dx means singapore. find ur region code). Instead of this i'd suggest you to go to samfirmware.com and get the best rom.
thank you for replies
i found out my firmware is I9000XWJV1 which could also be found in official sources, so i supose it should be available for me to use official updates...
still is there a way for me to know if the phone is with stock/retail firmware or its rooted with a rom thats just almost as stock?
sry if i may sound silly at any point, im new to samsung rooting and stuff
kies says:
"This version of your device cannot be updated.
Current firmware version DA:JV1 / PHONE:JVE?CSC:J
Can you tell me if it means i wont get updates ever, or just couse now its not available?
Nevermind, i found uot myself.. google almighty =)
If i change my 4x firmware to another countrie (ex: update to austrian firmware , a 4X bought in honk kong), will i still get the Austrian firmware future updates via OTA or just KDZ ?

If you do, don't forget to give feed back

didnt understand what you mean.
You reverted back to 10c and after that you updated to 10f via OTA and it was only 7,6mb? But did it update to 10f via OTA?

After update you're not getting what?
After upgrade from V10C to V10F, you went back to V10C, and now you don't have upgrade notification to V10F?
Is that it?
I think you will. The .kdz file is a complete image and the FOTA program is included, so it should not stop you from getting those updates. However i've never needed to flash a .kdz, so can't tell exactly. But why worry? If the OTA doesen't work, you can still flash it manually.
first phone was on 10c and ota found update with 7.6mb
i decided to update 10f kdz and updated to 10f
and thenn want some persian lang and rtl support so i re falashed v10c and tried ota but found nothing

Using LG Official software will delete everything, at least with me...
You can upgrade using the tradicional unofficial method to keep the apps that you have.
I use to flash with the web upgrade/ official tool but, when I'm just "playing" with the "flash" (using the unofficial) all my apps, setting, everything remains, no matter if I upgrade or downgrade and if I downgrade and upgrade again...
But if your goal is to see if the official software upgrades, its better to do a backup!!!

What do you mean with "continent firmware"? The latest in europe (open, all languages. To be honest I don't understand why there are open_portugal; open_italy; etc... if the firmware is the same) is V10F, in Brasil V10B...
But there you can use the europe V10F

There is no Brazilian portuguese language on europe firmware, only portuguese from portugal. thats why im moving to brazilian 10a firmware. after that, i will check if OTA update itself to brazilian firmware 10b.
If NOT, than updating the firmware from one countri/continent like europe for example, to another countries firmware like brazil for example, affects the OTA update.
thats what im going to test tomorow. Im shure people here changed their`s firmware to another region one, but no one told if it still receiving update.

I know that the european version only have PT-PT, but the difference is that big? The improvements in the firmware are not better than the language issue? And that issue it will be in a few cases cause in the keyboard for example, if you choose SwiftKey 3 you can choose PT-BR and in a lot of other apps...
The update OTA... probably you'll see here posted the update first than in your phone.
Is just an opinion, you do what you think its better of course.
Anyway, enjoy your phone and wish you good luck whatever you decide
i tried to update via OTA , but it says, phone not registered. I registered in lg web site but still gives me the same emssage. Should it take a while, or where do i need to register in order to check for updates?
OK, it happened what i suspected:
the phone update itself (not via OTA because it didnt worked for me) to the latest firmware by CHECKING YOUR IMEI. It means that if your original stock firmware is EURO for example, and you install Asian firmware for example, it wont update to the latest Asian firmware, but to the latest EURO firmware because it will check your imei that is Euro, not the firmware you have.
I have a problem.. I bought my xperia z unlocked and "unbranded". Full price and stuff.
But my xperia isn't unbranded at all. It's branded by vodafone Germany, the phone it's unlocked. But i have stupid preinstalled apps from vodafone and i can't get rid of the.. Not to mention i will get my updates via vodafone Germany (ps, i don't live not even near Germany).
And i didn't buy my phone from vodafone!!
Can I use this tutorial? http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/04/01/debrand-your-xperia-z-tutorial/
And this world_xxxxx rom (now i have vodafone1_xxxxx) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2209637
If i do this, i will still have my warranty?
Thanks.
Root you XZ, install some king of app manager (Ex: titanium backup) and remove that apps. I did the same here (Portuguese TMN apps)
Yeah.. but still. My phone will have "vodafone" rom. And that's my main problem and frustration.

Grab any ftf file from any country you want and use Flashtool to flash the ftf file, no need for rooting or unlocking BL.
I gived back that one. And i bought a new xperia.
The problem with this one is like : the phone have the file system version Global-lte_10.1.a.350.
And does not find any update to Global-lte_10.1.a.434.
I tried another pc.. OTA/Cable.. Does not work. the phone it's made in week 11 (so between March 11, 2013 and March 17, 2013).
And Sony released the 434 update around 20 march i think. It's possible this phone have the bug fix already in it?

No need for OTA when you can download any ftf and flash it using flashtool anyway.
I understand that but i'm just wondering why this phone does not want to "see" the update.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem. what is FTF file, and where to get it? I almost bricked my phone already trying to delete the Vodafone software.
Hi,
Really couple of quick questions... I have read the tutorials on flashing stock firmwares, I have got all the software downloaded (Xperifirm and Flashtool). I just want to debrand my phone (i.e. no O2 apps and no O2 boot screen).
I have picked out the Customized UK Unbranded firmware 23.0..1.A.5.77.
My current firmware is O2 Pay monthly UK 23.0.1.A.5.77
Does anyone see any forseeable issues with what I am about to do? First time flasher of Xperia phones - I have been a Samsung shill for far too long!
Kind Regards,
Neil

Hi,
I've also got the phone on O2 pay monthly and considering flashing the generic UK firmware. Did you use the links on the firmware thread to obtain the UK one? The links seemed to not work when I tried to download.
Have you read about creating your own flashtool file (ftf) for the current firmware? I would advise you to do so before getting rid of the O2 firmware as a backup ftf. You can repair the phone using the Sony PC companion and that would download the necessary files to create the ftf.
I have used couple of Xperias before and have always used flashtool to flash different firmware many times. The consensus regarding warranty and flashing seems that you do not loose the warranty in doing so and I have hoped it is so in flashing the other Xperias.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately this was not a successful attempt. I got the firmware using the app Xperifirm and decrypted it and created the flashing files in Flashtool as per instructions in another thread. I could not get the drivers to work correctly for Flashtool to function correctly however. Once I got to the flashing stage and Flashtool asked me to power down the device, I would then hold down the Vol - button whilst putting in the micro USB cable and it would fail instantly, first saying the driver was not installed and then after a lot of fiddling that the loader.sin would not install and again fail straight away. After a couple of hours of messing around I gave up.

Am I right in thinking that you downloaded this firmware when you posted about it back in 2015? If you did and you still have it would you be able to send me a copy? It seems to be unobtainable now from the internet.
Kind regards
Simon
I just got a new Z3+ to replace my old one that got broken. The new one had Android 6.0.0 and immediately updated to 6.0.1 32.2.A.0.253. But now it says my system is up-to-date and doesn't show nougat available. I went to the Sony support website (https://support.sonymobile.com/us/software/#gref) and entered the IMEI and it also says "Your Xperia Z3+ is up-to-date release 32.2.A.0.253". Right under that, it has a block that says "My Android Information" and it says Android 7.1 Nougat is released for Xperia Z3+. (See attached image)
So, I'm confused. Do I need to give it more time and maybe it will show the OTA update available?
I don't seem to be able to restore my Google backup from the old phone while the Android versions are mismatched.

For your region it may not released. You can flash Naugat update of any region through Flashtool, but you have read and understand the process and need to do the experiment (no need to unlock bootloader). I have flashed different versions (upgrade or downgrade) using flashtool number of times.
Check this link for more information and step by step guide. Do all your experiments at your own risk

Do you mean a region associated with the phone, or the carrier (T-mobile)? My old phone is a Z3+ and it updated to Nougat automatically. If there's a region associated with the phone, is there a way to see that?
If it is Carrier locked, then carrier specific else region specific update to be released. If your phone is locked with T-Mobile, don't try to use flashtool. I not aware of carrier locked phones flashing.
