Is there a way to prevent music from pausing during navigation?

I was surprised that rather than attenuating music playback the One pauses music when Waze or Google Navy is announcing an upcoming turn.

Not sure on that one, it might be app specific. For instance, last time I was listening to Pandora and navigating, the phone simply turned down the volume on the music while the navigator was talking. In the HTC Music app, it muted the music but it kept playing(annoying, since I was listening to an audio book...) and in Google Play Music, it would pause it.
unremarked is correct. I use PowerAmp and theres an option to pause the music or play the notification along with the music and thats what i use. I prefer the way iOS handles it though. The music goes lower while the notification sound plays. But i haven't found a way to make it work that way.

So this morning I got into the car and continued to stream music to my device via Google Music. I needed to make an unplanned detour so I fired up Waze to calculate a quick route avoiding traffic. Much to my delight the music I was streaming attenuated when Waze spoke, just like it used to do on my iPhone. I was so jazzed and my kids were probably wondering why. So at the next light I switched to the HTC player and no dice. Same behavior as before, muting/pausing music whenever Waze spoke directions. Finally I decided to try Pandora (which I haven't been able to stream to my car in the week I've had the One) and not only did Pandora play through the car speakers, it too attenuated when Waze spoke. I haven't tried this with Google Nav.
So what's changed since yesterday? Well I booted into Safe Mode (per HTC rep's suggestion) to troubleshoot a bluetooth volume issue and that didn't do anything other than remove some of my folders on one of my home panels. That bluetooth volume issue is a separate issue and it was not resolved through Safe Booting the device. Also, it appears there was an update to Google Music so that may have resolved the music pausing issue. Either way, I'm not sure what I did or what happened to the device to fix this behavior but I'm very happy to experience this expected behavior between music (except for the HTC native player) and nav.

Chromecast and Google Music All Access

For those that have it, what do you think about it? Is it a nice way to stream music?
It's great since my 'good' speakers are attached to my TV. Works fast and easily.
It's OK. The on screen display is lacking and even though I've synced all my music to Google, some of my albums are side loaded and will not play through chromecast. I love all access for streaming on my phone, but I don't think it's there quite yet for chromecast.

its fantastic. I keep no music on my phone and rely on streaming it. This is great for chromecast and I even talked my girlfriends parents into doing some upgrades to their sound system in their house since it goes through the whole house and outside which makes chromecast great for no longer having to go inside to change the music.

I'm having problems streaming to it with my Nexus 4.
I can connect and stream the first song with no problems, but when the screen sleeps it doesn't always stream to the next song.
50% of the time it'll automatically stream to the next song in the playlist if I manually turn the Nexus 4 screen back on.
30% of the time after I turn the screen back on, I'll get an error message that says "this track could not be played, and I'll have to manually select the next song"
20% of the time chromecast will be disconnected and I'll have to manually play the next song, and reconnect to chromecast.
Being a native Google App I had hoped that Google Music would work flawlessly, but it's been poor thus far. Hopefully an update will fix the issue.
I'm having issues too. I'm not sure why, but I keep getting "Playback error, Unable to play the song. Can't play a sideloaded song remotely."
So any music that is in the Google Music cloud AND on my device are not playable? I am not sure. I haven't been able to get Google Music to play from my phone - and if you use a PC, then the only way it seems is using the tab casting, which needs some polish.

The case of having the same song locally and on the music cloud not playing through ChromeCast seems to be a universal problem right now.
When I cast a tab and a video is being played inside the tab, I can't seem to get any sound to output through ChromeCast.
Another thing I tried was to drag and drop a local video file into Chrome and cast that tab. I just played a movie file that was .mp4 (.avi's don't won't), the video played (although a little slow on the framerate) but there was no sound at all.

Same issue here. This is a design flaw that I'm hoping Google will rectify with either a Google Music update or a Chromecast update.

I found that playing music from the Google Music "cloud", as in NOT my music - works great. If it's in my library, does not play. I just signed up for the 30 day trial of Google Music All Access or whatever it is called, and I can now stream music to the ChromeCast.
Strange behavior for sure.

I have a few thousand songs pinned to my phone and they all cast fine.
Echodawg/arrghh,
I have had this issue. It depends on how you have it setup.
If you have everything uploaded to Google Music cloud and then if you copy the files over to your phone as well and try to play those songs, it will not play and give you a 'Cannot play sideloaded songs' message.
For this to work, you should NOT copy any songs from your computer to the phone directly, you can and should ONLY 'pin' it....

I'm talking about songs that you've manually loaded onto your phone. Not cached/pinned copies of googles music.

Ah. I see.
Why not just upload and pin?
I have mine pinned to my SD card, 40 gigs or so.
Works great!

Unless something has changed recently, pinned songs get deleted from the phone every time you flash a new ROM. I go back and forth between cm and pa and stock. I don't want to have to download 5gb of music every time.

I pin to extSD + Titanium Backup.
And upload once and done, you can side load your music on the phone, but you could then access it in Gmusic too.

I've tried that. The issue I have is that when I load a new ROM, the first time it boots up and Google music runs in the background it wipes the pinned songs. Titanium backup doesn't actually backup the pinned songs so not sure what you mean there.

Yeah I can vouch for this issue too. I sync a list of podcasts to my phone through iSyncr, and the same podcasts also get synced to the cloud via iTunes/Google Play. On my phone, any synced podcast won't cast because it's sideloaded, even though the same podcast is already in the cloud. On my tablet, which I don't store local music on, I can launch the same podcast and it does cast to Chromecast.
As for All Access - there was an overlap of a few days between my free trial and getting Chromecast, and it did work nicely. However I was under the mistaken impression that signing up for the free trial of All Access before June 30 would give me a lifetime discount. I did not realize I'd have to maintain a continuous subscription. So I cancelled at the end of the free trial and no more discount for me. I will probably not sign up again as I anticipate other music apps becoming Chromecast-compatible soon.
I see an update to Google Play Music available.
v.5.1.1107k
*Chromecast improvements
Hopefully it fixed the problems we've been having
I see the update in Play Store but no update button. Tried uninstalling updates and then updating, but I still have the previous build. Guess it hasn't "rolled out" to my accounts yet.

[Q] Google Now/Play Music shuffles song rather than playing correct song

I have Google Play Music All Access and a premium Slacker Radio Account.
This happens whether I default Google Now to Google Music or Slacker
When I request it to play a song using "Ok Google Now" it shuffles the artists album rather than playing the specific song. It does this in Google Play music as well as Slacker depending on which I set the Google now Default to.
Examples:
I say "Play Rolling the Deep" and it will launch Google Now and say "Playing Rolling in the Deep by Adele" then google music will launch and it will just shuffle her album rather than playing the song.
or
Same thing happened when I tested "Sympathy for the Devil" it just played a random Rolling Stones Song, even though google now said "Playing Sympathy for the Devil by The Rolling Stones"
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is one of the reasons I wanted the touchless controls of this phone!
Moto support had me reboot into recovery and clear the cache. That fixed it.

[q] Can I get some help with using google now to play music

Either I need help, or google now is absolutely terrible with music.
I have a bunch of music that I added to my phone using isyncr. I have tried to get google to play it, but have yet to play a song successfully using voice commands. It is half the reason that I got this phone, and it's really frustrating how bad it is. Let's use the artist Bonobo for an example. I am able to tell google now what I want to listen to, and it interprets my words successfully about 50% of the time.
If I say "Listen to Bonobo," it opens google music and says "no results found." This occurs despite the fact that it spelled it correctly and I clearly have his music.
If I say "Listen to Black Sands," it tells me that it "Couldn't prepare an instant mix, please try again."
If I saw "Listen to Know You by Bonobo," it actually says "Playing 'Know You' by Bonobo," opens google music, and then starts an instant mix with "Know Yourself" by Femi Kuti.
I was a former android user, now a former iphone user, and google now is a complete disgrace. Am I doing something wrong?

Reverted to the factory version of google music, and these are the results.
"Listen to Bonobo" is interpreted correctly, google says "Playing Bonobo." It then just takes me to the app with that artist selected. I have tested this for multiple artists.
"Listen to Black Sands" is interpreted correctly. This is an album as well as a song, which is incredibly common. Google successfully plays the song. If I say "Listen to album Black Sands," it still plays the song. If I pick another album that is also not a track name, it just takes me to that album in google music.
"Listen to Know You," a song from a different album, just pulls up a search for "listen to know you." "Listen to know you by Bonobo" successfully plays the song. It plays this single song on repeat and nothing else.
This is an improvement, if I only ever want to listen to a single song. It also gives me the ability to tell google to pull up an artist (even if I am telling it to play that artist), at which point I can hit play myself.
Thanks for the help. I'm still extremely disappointed.

I did. I said "Black Sands," which is the name of both a song and an album, and I also tried "The North Borders," which is a different album. For the north borders, it clearly understands what I am saying and shows the album artwork. It doesn't actually play any music, though.

Thanks. I'm a little pissed off that I even switched at this point. They pull you into the Moto X by talking about how you never have to use your hands. The voice recognition tool is absolute crap unless you want to search the internet. At that point, I'm just yelling at my phone to search the internet even though I can type it out.
I was really hoping to be able to use this to play music while driving.
its pretty patchy at the moment, I agree. Half the time mine searches on the web rather than opening google play. If I wanted to search on the web, i would have used that command. But when it starts with "Play..." then it should always search on GPAA.

For what it's worth, I just asked the same question on Reddit, and somebody pointed me to a program called PlayerPro. It will recognize artists and albums successfully, but not playlists. I'm also not sure if I can tell any app to shuffle via google now.
PlayerPro is a paid app, but I might try other media player apps now that I know that different apps work/don't work differently.

Hello, beelbeel
For PlayerPro, have you been able to get it to play via Google Now, without having to quit the Program?
I can get GN to recognize my speech and play any of my songs via PlayerPro, however, after asking it to play a song, i have to quit PlayerPro, (not pause, or dismiss) to get it to play any other song i ask for. if i just request without asking, it only opens the player.
To the original poster: Try asking GN to "Play" instead of "Listen". You may have a difficult accent or pitch, Try to rephrase the command. GN seems to recognize a number of ways to get what you want done. And if that fails, Rename your album to include a second or third word, so that GN doesn't confuse the song, and the album.
GL
I reccomend you get this PlayerPro program, they have a free trial. it's great. It will allow you to rename, your files, and albums. try it.

[Q] Controlling Music From Watch - How?

I can't seem to figure out how to control music playing on my phone from my watch (using Google Music phone app). Is something supposed to pop up when I play music on my phone? I don't see an "app" on the watch that controls this. Note that I'm using a Note 3.
What am I missing?

You get card of current song and if u swipe to left u can advance and swipe to right one more time to stop I believe.
Ian B
Actually I figured this out. You have to start the playback on the phone first. Then you get a notification that let's you pause / play, Swipe to the left and you next and once more to the left you get previous, but that is the extent of the stock music control. This worked with EVERY music player I have, not just Google stock Music player.
You can also control volume if you get the Wear Volume app - it appears as an additional notification card under the main music notification. And here is also something that is WAY cool - if you download musiXmatch app, you can scroll down and choose to display scrolling LYRICS to the current song!! I can't get BOTH volume AND lyrics to work at the same time however. Note the Volume works with any music app you choose in it's settings. However, musiXmatch only works with Google Play Music player.
There are also some voice controls to start playback. Such as OK Google, play me some music (that will start an "I'm feeling lucky" shuffle). OK Google, Play Some *artist name* . there are some others, but I use those two often.
Not sure if it matters, but this is on an HTC One M7, stock 4.4.2 Sense 6, Google Play Music.
I've just finished developing my Wear Music Controller app to solve this problem for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.barkside.music
You can play/pause/next/prev/stop/vol-up/vol-down from your watch! Works with all music apps. Let me know what you think!
