Failing to Flash / Locate RUU on M7 - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys -
This morning I've spent some time trying to convert my HTC One M7 from AT&T to T-Mobile (both USA) so that I may use a new T-Mobile SIM I have. I already had S-Off, so it looked like a fairly simple process. Unfortunatly, I've hit a roadblock and after searching cannot find the solution. I believe the biggest issue is due to htc1guru.com being down which I do not know if due to the DOS attack in Atlanta or not - Anyways - below is what I've done so far, where i hit the error, and current status of the phone...
Phone's Original State
I should have run a getvar for this first, but copied all info from a pic I took before starting of the bootloader screen
HTC One M7 flashed with ViperOne 9.0.0 on AT&T USA (GSM)
- M7_UL PVT SHIP S-OFF RH
- S-Off / Rooted
- CID: CWS__001
- HBOOT: 1.61.0000
- RADIO: 4M.32.3218.06
- OpenDSP: v35.120.274.0718
- OS: 7.23.502.1
Steps I Followed to Convert Carrier to T-Mobile
I found and used this guide mostly as it seemed to do exactly what I was trying to do
1. Changed CID to "T-MOB010"
2. Flashed "MID_Change_1.01.zip" via TWRP and choose to install Model ID "PN0713000" - Rebooted
3. Skipped step for re-locking bootloader
4. htc1guru.com was offline so had to find RUU elsewhere. So, I finally found and downloaded "RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_TMOUS_1.27.531.11_Radio_4A.17.3250.20_10.40.1150.04_release_324846_signed.exe" from androidruu.com.
5. Executed above EXE, went to %temp%, and copied "rom.zip" out to my adb folder
6. Ran "adb reboot bootloader" then "fastboot oem rebootRUU" to get to silver HTC logo
7. Executed "fastboot flash zip rom.zip" which failed with below error. I tried re-running the string, but got the same results
Current Error
When executing step #7 above

The Issue? / Overall
I'm pretty sure that the error is due to the rom.zip not being what I need to flash. I've found plenty of links for the rom/ruu that should work for my situation, but they are all on htc1guru.com. If I power on the phone in it's current state with the (new / never used) T-Mobile SIM in, I am prompted to enter an 8 digit PIN which I assume I would need to call T-Mobile for and activate first. Based on what I'm trying to do, the error, and the above data; what do I need to do? If it is in fact an incorrect rom/ruu file, does anyone have a link to it on another site or can tell me which specific one I need to look for?
Thanks for your help!!!

Try the link on OP for latest Ruu it may help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=59353567

Thanks - downloading now. So this is obviously an installable one. Do you suggest I try to install it via the EXE / built-in installer, extract the rom.zip and apply using steps above, or does it even matter? I don't care if I loose any data on the phone.
Thanks!

Converting your phone from AT&T to T-Mobile USA version won't make it work with a T-Mobile SIM card. You have to SIM-Unlock your phone. Even if you flash a T-MOB ruu, your phone will still be locked to AT&T and ask you for an unlock code.

Well crap. What's the process for in the guide I posted a link to in my original post, then? What more do I need to do in order to SIM-Unlock it?

Install it via EXE auto installer put your phone in fastboot mode and simply run .exe file on PC.

You don't need to do anything from that guide, you just need to sim-unlock your phone. Its done with an unlock code you can purchase online, sometimes you can get the unlock code for free from the original carrier (at&t in your case). Insert a foreign sim card, boot your phone, it will then ask you to enter the code and once done your phone will be able to work on any network (as long as the frequencies are compatible).
Btw that guide should be named "how to brand/de-brand your M7" and not "How to Get Your HTC One M7 Ready for a Different Mobile Carrier". That guide will obviously not make your phone ready to be used on another carrier if its not telling you to remove the sim-lock... I guess the author was using a carrier unlocked M7 hence why he forgot to tell about sim-unlock in his guide...

[CLOSED] Finding the latest firmware update for my M7

Hey all,
I'm looking to get my phone up to date. I bought my AT&T M7 a month or two after it came out and I've never upgraded the firmware or anything besides the ROM since I bought it (2yr contract is up next week, if that helps with a timeframe). I'm looking to find the latest firmware.
Should I look for the absolute latest one, or does it depend on my ROM? I'm looking to try the Android Revolution HD ROMs and didn't see anything about a specific firmware, just that it's not a bad idea to update it.
Would there be repercussions of updating? I'm currently on an unlocked bootloader and S-ON, and I might as well leave it S-ON while I'm flashing firmware to prevent bricking (from what I read, it should work as long as everything matches, and I don't see how it could be a good idea to go S-OFF to "get around" that and risk bricking).
I could use help finding the latest firmware version, since I don't really know what to look for.
Output of "fastboot getvar all":
Code:
# fastboot getvar all
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.44.0000
(bootloader) version-bootloader: 1.44.0000

No, I'm not sure what keeps failing. The output changes everytime I run the command (different fields are shown each time, the numbers are consistent for the repeated ones). Sometimes it outputs nothing and says completed, and others it outputs some stuff like above and fails. If you know what this is indicative of, that'd be nice to know as well. Note that I'm on Debian Linux and not Windows, so I suspect my version of fastboot from the repos might not be the latest one or something like that. (I do have Win 7 and 8.1 64-bit VMs at my disposal though, so Windows only solutions should work fine too, no worries)
Thanks for any and all of your time!

If your s-on and unlocked bootloader your first step should be to achieve s-off, on hboot 1.44 you can use Revone or Rummruner. all you need is custom recovery TWRP 2.6.3.3 / Root / and a rom with insecure kernel. ARHD 31.6 should work.
After your s-off you can flash this RUU.zip
http://www.htc1guru.com/dld/ruu-zip-m7_ul_jb43_sense50_mr_cingular_us_3-17-502-3-decrypted-zip/

I got S-OFF and everything else has been fine up to this second RUU zip. Here's what happens:
Code:
# fastboot flash zip RUU_M7_UL_K44_SENSE55_MR_Cingular_US_4.18.502.7_decrypted.ROM.zip
target reported max download size of 1514139648 bytes

fastboot: /tmp/buildd/android-tools-4.2.2+git20130529/core/libsparse/sparse.c:143: write_all_blocks: Assertion `pad >= 0' failed.

I tried redownloading to no avail. Help?
Can I just OTA update from here since it boots (i.e. was the second RUU just to save time)? I'll wait until you say it's safe, since I'm worried that it'd mess up something somehow (as in accidentally re-lock or S-ON, etc).
I went ahead and just did the OTA update and skipped the last RUU zip and it all worked out fine. Thanks a million!

[Q] (Q) Lollipop soft brick help please

Hi all,
My friend handed me his HTC One M7 the other day and it was looping at the beginning Android / HTC screen from boot, he took the lollipop update but it failed somewhere along the way and this is how it's ended up.
The device is not rooted and is not bootloader unlocked, i've tried to flash a few RUU files to bring it back to life but the vast majority of them only get as far as 1/5 checking header.
I'm more than happy to root the device and install a custom rom but I wasn't sure if it needed to be bootable to do so, afaik the bootloader unlocking doesn't require to have the device on, infact I don't think you need to have the OS to get a custom recovery either? Anyway, i'd like for him to retain his warranty so if there's a way for him to get it back to stock HTC then i'd prefer to do that.
If that's not possible and unlocking the bootloader, installing a custom rom is then I'll do that.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
PS: I have had the m7 before but I didn't have it when android 5 was available so i'm a little out of touch with what may go wrong.

Firmware, hboot, CID, MID, S-ON/S-OFF, M7_UL/M7_U
Checking header 1/5..ill give you a clue...your ruu that you going to flash,it has to match firmware that is on it now...as you are s-on,you cant change firmware.so,try with other ruu's,some that maches firmware number..not older, not newer.
And like others said, give them "getvar all" info.

I'm 100% confident it will work. Just make sure to use the fastboot version linked in that thread which is a version made by HTC. Only this version of fastboot will work to flash this ruu since the "normal" fastboot can't handle the file size of that ruu. Also make sure your bootloader is locked or relocked.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip ruu.zip
fastboot reboot

you have downloaded the 7.19.401.102 version. You have to use the 7.19.401.2 version hence why the "check ID fail". .102 version is for M7_U and .2 version is for M7_UL (the one you have).

Would recommend to simply flash the latest ruu (7.19.401.2)

read my post above you are flashing the wrong ruu. You need 4.19.401.2 not 4.19.401.102

Ah, idiot. Sorry
Couldn't see a european one though? This device is unlocked, wouldn't it have the providers software on otherwise?
Ok downloading, sorry mate, my eyes are failing me, getting old.
Ok so I think it's all done mate, looks like it's going to load up, I mean the script has finished running but the green bar is still onscreen.

[Fixed] Bricked Hboot 1.44 with RUU 1.31 (Explanation on how solved in OP)

[Fixed][Solution]
This should work for anyone who soft bricked there device but still has the 1.44 HBoot to allow them to still flash a recovery. I did not come up with any of this but was helped by nkk71 who showed me the way. I dealt with this problem for over 2 days now non-stop trying to fix it only missing 1 step that made all the difference.
This method is for a HTC One (M7) Sprint Variant:
-Be sure to use HTCDev to unlock your phone and flash a custom recovery. (I used TWRP)
-Be sure to have all the adb and fastboot exe files needed. If you bricked your phone you most likely already do but if not there are tons of links on the forums to help you get all the information you need from them.
-Check to make sure what RUU your phone is at by going into fastboot and using a cmd window type: fasboot getvar all. This will display your phones information. If you happen to be at 1.31 like my phone was you will need to do the next step, if not then find your recovery.
- Fix your version main to say 1.29.651.10 by editing the misc partition
Boot into recovery
In the recovery mount your device. I mounted all parts in TWRP.
Open a cmd window and doucle check that your device is connected by typing: adb devices
(If it shows a set up numbers and letters and then says recovery then that is your device.)
Now type: adb shell
type: echo "1.29.651.10" | dd of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p19 bs=1 seek=160
type: adb reboot bootloader
Once it loads back into the bootloader click on fastboot and check to see if your device is connected by typing: fastboot devices
If you see you device type: fastboot oem lock (This will relock your device)
- Now you are ready to run the RUU. (After it runs your phone is back to stock)
If any of this is confusing, there are links below that were used to get me through this. If you need to do this I wish you luck.
Original Post:
So basically I erased everything. Not sure how but phone Bricked. Luckily i have a 1.44Hboot and I simply just burned the recovery back.
Unforunately I've stopped messing with phones for about 2 years so it took me forever to get everything set back up properly. Now my biggest issue is I can't manage to get a ROM to boot anymore. The closest one is ViperOne 8, I've tried Android Revolution HD91.1 (which started all my troubles), NUSenSeven which is having issues for more people as well, and tried a very basic Stock M7 one.
Any information you give please act like I'm stupid. I can do adb and fastboot, but if you just say flash it, please dont expect me to know how. I've forgotten tons.
Anyways, currently my phone shows the:
*Tampered*
*Unlocked*
S-On
I have been trying to get it to S-off and then remove the Tampered but I can't get s-off with Revone.
Gives me Error = 1 and I'm just totally lost. But not I can't even seem to get a ROM to load and when it does I have no Service on this phone anymore and I have to remove the HTCsetupwizard.apk. Unfortunately sometimes this does not show up in system/app and under system might not show anything at all.
If that is standard to happen right after a fresh install without loading then that kind of makes sense. Also, I only wait about 10minutes on booting for the roms. Only Rom I wait longer on is the ViperOne 8 as it shows upgrading.
Please advise, I'm will to try anything. I'm having a huge headache with this and throwing the phone into a wall is becoming a reality.

1- please post a "fastboot getvar all" (excluding IMEI, MEID and s/n)
2- looks like you're on Sprint, which is different that the GSM version of the M7, and has a different partition table
3- you may need to use an RUU to get your partitions back to normal
4- revone wont work on such new ROMs, even if hboot is 1.44 the ROM still plays a factor
let's start with the "fastboot getvar all" output

2) Yes on Sprint, but with no activation on this phone now.
3) RUU would be 1.31, I relocked phone and went to use the RUU but don't know how to flash it.
4) I figured that with Revone thats why I attempted the RUU but got stuck there. I'll have to refind the RUU again though as I downloaded about 40GB yesterday and my SSD doesn't have that much room anymore. Waiting for windows 10 which is far away.

okay, so it's a Sprint M7 with a messed up partition table, so yes, best course of action is probably RUUing

revone will need hboot 1.44 (dated pre June 2013) and a compatible ROM to work.
So course(s) of action:
A) fix your version main to say 1.29.651.10 by editing the misc partition; example here
then run full 1.29.651.10 RUU.EXE
then you can use revone
or
B) flash newer version RUU.EXE
use sunshine (paid app $25) to get S-OFF
note: you will likely need to update firmware first for the ruu to work properly
hope that points you in the right direction

it's an "old trick", i take no credit at all for it ... as long as hboot version is the same, fixing the version-main (using adb or even the "misctool" <- it's somewhere on xda, dont have a link handy atm) should work fine

Of course after relocking the device. just want to confirm as I tried this earlier but missed the first step which was most likely crucial.

I have a phone again. Thank you so much.
Imagine someone frustrated for over 2days spending 10+ hours a day readying, flashing and trying everything to get their phone to work with limited knowledge.
Now imagine that same person jumping up and down with joy. (That's me now)
Thank you so much for your help. Your links did the trick, they were what I couldn't find.
Now that I know how to do this, I'm going to try RevOne, flash a new Firmware and then flash one of the new roms I wanted. If any of this fails then I'm done with this stuff for some time, haha.

Another update though is I am now Unlocked with S-Off w/o Tampered. Basically what I wanted.
Now should be my last questions, but it's a good idea to update to the newest firmware correct?
Firmware will never be able to stop me from achieve what I just did to fix the phone correct?

I was able to successfully update my baseband radio just a few days ago using the "full firmware" download from the link you posted. I had unintentionally flashed very old firmware(mid-2014 version) so I had no wifi. I flashed the file fw_6.20.531.5.zip by copying it as 0P6BIMG.zip to the root of my SDCARD, then booted into fastboot and the phone processed the ZIP file, updating all my firmware. Now my baseband version is correct at 1.29.213311491.05G, phone and WiFi work correctly. When the phone boots into fastboot with that special file on SDCARD you get some prompts you have to answer to go ahead & flash, just answer yes, etc. There are many guides about this on this (great!) site.

Don't use RUU, use firmware zip file by itself. Copy it to SDCARD root as 0P6BIMG.zip. Boot into bootloader, answer prompts. BUT.......Your model id & product id look like Sprint, I have not been able to flash that firmware file on a Sprint M8 motherboard yet. I need to find a different file that's zipped with the correct model Id for Sprint. If/when I find that firmware I'll report back.
Also, look-up requirements for using RUU, does bootloader have to be re-locked? I don't remember.

The procedure for unlocking an M8 bootloader is straightforward if you have a PC and a USB cable. Use the "Unlock Bootloader" link on HTC's developer site, https://www.htcdev.com/. You'll need to create an account on the HTC site, also easy. I haven't had a problem unlocking 3 or 4 M8's. I suppose if the phone was reported stolen or something crazy like that it might not work.

I reboot after flashing it, HTC logo bootup appear then went on blankscreen. I tried to wiped data and factory reset still the same

So the only way is that I flash stock M7_U 7.18.709.102 (HTC_Asia_TW), im not sure whats the correct way to do that. Or flash something ruu? I have no idea about that
saw from somewhere saying "if you are s on, you will have to do this seperate boot image install every time you want to flash a new rom"
what am I suppose to do? while the meantime im downloading the zip and its freaking slow, take very long (if someone got a better download website) due to the mirror
my recovery mode, fastboot and bootloader are functioning which is something im still happy for.
Please if someone could help me out

Sometimes downloading things requires patience.
Im not sure exactly how S-ON flashing works but i did hear somewhere that something to do with boot image gets involved
I found out the best way to bring back my m7 is to use RUU method, but when i try to flash zip it shows "failed"
./fastboot-mac flash zip PN07IMG.zip
sending 'zip' (1975775 KB)...
FAILED (remote: 02 data length is too large)

maybe the RUU is not right for my phone?
Don't know whether is it i downloaded wrong rom file for my device

You must use htc_fastboot.exe to flash a RUU if it's a Lollipop version (version starting with 7.xx.xxx.x). Others fastboot versions won't work.

Does not apply to the M7, the boot partition isn't write protected like previous htc devices.
