Do you really need it though?

Probably not! Nice to try out new features though! The active screen could be a good one (like on Moto G 3)

i was wondering also about the double tap feature any decent solution ?

[Q] Knock on feature from G2 on Z1??

Is there any way that we can get this feature from the G2 on the Z1? Basically what it does is when your screen is off you knock twice on the screen and it turns on/off.

I believe it requires kernel level changes. Unfortunately due to the camera breaking upon bootloader unlock there hasn't been a whole lot of custom kernel or AOSP ROM development. Once Sony fixes the bootloader issue I would expect more kernels coming out and wouldn't be surprised to see one with this feature.
Can't wait
Edit: the closest I've seen is a mod to allow the camera button to unlock the screen. Is on this forum somewhere, though definitely not as cool as the double screen tap

Hmm.. it works off of the proximity sensor doesn't it? I wonder if there are any apps that will do this.

Good point. There are. I downloaded ProximityScreen Off Lite yesterday and one more I forget the name of but haven't tested it at all yet. Might work, but will drain battery if you use the screen on function because I think it will need to keep a wakelock

Yeah, you searched so well that you are pointing me an app that doesn't answers my question at all  I DID search before posting and I didn't find anything. Now I'm not even sure that you know what sweep2wake is. For anyone who don't know, s2w is a KERNEL feautre, so developers have to implement this. Only rooted nexus devices can add this as an app but they are the only exception (see PGM app in play store). This feature allows you to make a swipe on your screen *while it is off* (is kept on only the digitalizer and if you don't touch the screen, you won't have battery drain) to turn it on and vice versa. It's useful especially on big screens where reaching on/off buttons is not easy. About all HTC phones has it (even desire x, not an hi-end device), Sony xperia z and many other devices join day after day. LG g2 has this feature out of the box (OK, it's a double tap to wake, more than a sweep, but the way it works is the same, changes only the gesture).
And I checked all the 4x kernels out there, but didn't find this feature listed. And I'm asking why, since 4x has the same SoC of HTC one x, so it couldn't be so hard..
Sorry not to be the little lazy noob that you expected.
We have double-tap-2-wake or slide about the the buttons under the display.
This features is in Iodaks kernel look here:

OK, so it's work in progress, great news I couldn't find it because it wasn't added in the OP, it's something that came out a week ago and it's not working the best way..but it's coming finally. Thank you!

Did you bother reading the threads that had previously been created in the 4X forums which discussed Sweep2Wake? I searched for them and found that link which is why I posted it.
The reason I didn't research that app properly is because I have absolutely zero interest in this feature but as there were several threads discvered by searching -- one of which included my posting this on the 18th December last year
On the old HTC Desire S we had "Sweep2Wake" - but that requires kernel modifications AFAIK. Maybe something for the future as it was quite a nice feature, and I don't like using physical buttons to wake my phone as it wears them out too quickly.

so I would suggest that I am well aware exactly what S2W is and what it does
You would also have discovered that one of our key developers @laufersteppenwolf has looked at implementing this feature in Werewolf (both Kernel & ROM) but isn't sure due to the battery drain used in keeping the digitiser on all the time.
So, are you still going to claim you actually bothered to search properly?

Double tap to wake on Moto x

i am curious that exist some kernel like on Nexus 4 or 5 to ability double tap to wake for moto x?
thank u
The Moto X wakes up anytime you move it or pull it out of your pocket/holster etc - which is its best feature! Why would you need to double tap it?

I wouldn't mind it having double tap those situations it is already sitting on the desk or something. You could always just say Ok google now then hit home.
Double knock would be nice
Sent from my XT1080m using Tapatalk
Just touching it and rocking it a little turns it on. Don't need double tap or pgm.

Sorry but if you're working and hands are filthy.. It's easier to double knock.
I think skip track and volume should be a touchless control. Shower radio!

OP is talking about a feature like Knock On, which is on the LG G2.
Two taps, and your phone is unlocked.
One tap on my X does nothing. Moving brings up the active notification screen, which then requires a swipe to unlock it. None of these are like the Knock On feature.
I would love to see this feature as well. My phone sits on my desk at work. I'd love to be able to wake it, or unlock it just by tapping the screen twice. I know I can pick it up or move it around, but the double tap would be more convenient.
You're referring to Faux kernel.

its not just faux kernel, on the nexus 4 a lot of kernels supported slide to wake, double tap to wake etc.. including franco, matr1x, slimroms, etc.. it was a special app i think it might have worked on stock kernel as well.
I realize it's not a specific built in function but the Moto X will wake if you double, or single, tap it. What more are you looking for?

It came from faux kernel, read the thanks note in the kernel description, Faux is in the credit. Franco specifically do not and will not implement that feature to his kernel, he said so in the FAQ, it's available through third party modules. The app you refer to is Touch Control.

Mine does not wake if I single or double tap it. I've only used the VZW versions though.
Maybe you are moving it when you are tapping it!

oh ok, i didn't know that it was to his credit. Yes thats the app i'm referring to.
but as many have said, the slightest movement or vibration will wake up the moto x, so don't really need it.. Yes if its on a desk or something it will move slightly. I don't think it would wake up if it doesn't actually move.
If you want it to turn on active notifications while it is sitting face up on a desk all you have to do is push a little bit on the bottom.

You're correct. If I tap it without moving it, it does not wake.

It's called "knock on" on the LG G2. Tap the screen twice without moving the phone and it unlocks. I'm certain this is the feature being requested on the moto x.
On most screens you can also double tap to lock/turn off the screen. I would love to have this feature.

Decent ROM with active display working?

I've been testing some roms and so far none of them have a working active display.
Is there any decent ROM with a working active display?
Yea, i'm looking for one too. As close to stock\AOSP as possible would be great.

Yep! Lesson learnt! Apparently, there's nothing like stock. I won't try another ROM ever again on my Moto X. Stock + XPosed is the sh*t !
The only thing missing are the themes, but i can live without those.
I recommend Acid + Acdisplay

Does XPosed allow you to dim the display by swiping across the notification bar? Honestly, that is the only setting I ever cared about with my previous ROMs and phones, which is why I always used something akin to PAC Roms.
Eclipse hands down.

[Requires Root][Open Source] Doubletap to Wake Enabler v1.2

Nexus 6 Doubletap To Wake
Description
Enables the "double tap to wake" feature that the Nexus 6 shipped with.. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this. I am offering it for free to members of xda-developers; you can find the apk below. If you wish to donate, feel free to download it from the Google Play Store for $0.99 (USD):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.codechron.n6doubletapunlock
If you wish to view the code or build from source to verify that nothing mischievous is going on, you may find the code on Github. Note that the code may be slightly messy; most of my development experience lies elsewhere.
https://github.com/smskelley/Nexus-6-Tap-to-Wake/
Video
@techfanatic9 was kind enough to make a video demonstrating the installation and basic use of this app.
Caveats
Google's built in implementation of double tap to wake isn't perfect. It's likely why it wasn't enabled out of the box. Some users have indicated that if their device has been sleeping for a while, double tap to wake isn't always reliable. It is very unlikely to cause harm to your Nexus 6, but extensive longterm testing has not yet been done. Additionally, this is unlikely to work on anything but the Nexus 6. By downloading now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. Please let me know if you run into any issues or have any questions.
Changelog
Version 1.2 - Mostly bugfixes.
Enhanced error checking.
If a non rooted device opens this application, it should no longer crash.
Small formatting changes.
Version 1.1 - Persist through reboot.
Settings now persist through reboot.
Changed name from "Doubletap to Unlock" to "Doubletap to Wake".
Updated Icon. Doesn't look amazing, but it's better than it was.
Updated some text.
Version 1.0 - Initial Version
Implemented the ability to turn on or off Double Tap to Wake
Dope! Testing right meow

You, sir or miss, are an amazing person. Coming from having the g2 and then the g3 I'm pretty accustomed to the knock on/off. Thank you for getting this out there on the swift tip.
Thanks, I am coming from the G3 and I still double tap my nexus at times since I'm so used to it. This works perfectly, I wonder why google took the feature out?
Just tested and works. This feature is essential since the phone lacks infrared sensors like the X. Nice work!

I have created an app for the Nexus 6 which enables the "double tap to unlock" feature. It requires root, so you must unlock your bootloader and root before using this.
I have only tested it on my device. I wouldn't expect it to work on anything but the Nexus 6. It is very unlikely to cause harm to other devices, but know that by downloading it right now, you are accepting the liability if something were to go wrong. I dunno, but there is a commit in aosp that specifically disabled double tap to wake in HAL, for shamu.
Possibly to avoid pocket double tap? Or random double taps on accident.
If you reboot your phone, it breaks. You have to re-enable it again. Just letting you know.
it would be cool if you could double tap and wake the screen in ambient display mode
It doesn't take the proximity sensor into effect, so if your pocket double taps your phone, it will wake up. Next to my buddies OnePlus. If you cover the proximity sensor it won't double tap to wake.
This will wake no matter what. Just an FYI.
Works great for me. Thank you very much @naxir now the Nexus behaves like my G3
