Battery Drain While Powered Off - Galaxy Note5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Note 5 (SM-N920I) has poor battery life and after reading the threads on here I assumed that there could be many courses however after resetting my phone I left it turned off for 24h and it dropped 20% battery. I always turn on flight mode at night to and over 8h it will loose 15-20% battery. Does it sound like the battery is defective or am I missing something?
Please help

Do you have root? If you do then use amplify to stop some of the wakelocks and set CPU to change the CPU speed to the lowest when your device screen is off.

Thanks, I don't have root and it is loosing battery when the phone is switched off not just screen off. Surely it shouldn't be losing battery then.

Quick Battery Drain?

I know this crazy question but here goes. I am doing the battery thing where you need to drain your battery until the phone shuts down. What things can I turn on to get my Battery Drain FAST? I told you it crazy.
Thanks
Turn on wifi, Bluetooth and turn ur brightness all the way up. Also turn on gas and then run a background that moves.

Thanks. I had phone at 35% and wanted to try to drain completely so I could Charge overnight.
Turn screen on full brightness and play angry birds while streaming music from Pandora at full volume.
Curious why you would want to drain fully just so you could charge overnight?
When you drain the battery and then recharge it completely, it helps increase the volume of the battery to help it last longer.
huh? I think you need to do some research on li-ion batteries.
I think.he might be trying to recalibrate his battery
I kinda thought that but the post regarding increasing capacity of the battery threw me.
it won't be XDA without ways to magically improve your battery life.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to calibration increasing phone uptime and accuracy of the battery meter, rather than actually increasing the battery's capacity.
Yes that's what I was trying to say. not the best at explaining

(Q) note charged itself over night ...?!

I was using the phone for about 2.5h with wifi on browsing reading some news and got the battery to 38%. Then I have activated the power saving option and locked the screen and went to bed. Now I just woke up and see that my battery is at41% wow. Did it charged up or what has happened?
An inaccuracy of the battery meter? It defenitely did not charge itself. That's physically and chemically impossible.

It's weird how it constantly increased from 38-41 it was not just a sudden jump... I got sudden drops in battery after a usual reboot, and but never a slow increase....

Actually yes it does happen.. I really can't pinpoint the reason though.. After heavy usage the battery does drain for a while after the usage and then since no usage some power is restored.. Same like AA batteries.. Example: Use AA batteries on a device till the device switches off.. Then leave the device idle for a while and battery will be usable for sometime though the device had switched off earlier due to complete drain..
I'm not an electronics person. So i dunno how or what makes this happen :silly:

Battery drain when idle?

What type of drain are people getting while phone is not in use?
Last night I dropped from 64% to 54% in 9 hours, despite the fact that better battery stats showed 97% deep sleep for the time period. Seems bad to me. On lots of other phones, overnight drain is in the 2 - 5% range.
Yes, active notifications are disabled while I sleep. I don't even have touchless control set up yet, so it can't be that. I have the same few location services turned on that I always do, and like I said, I usually see 2-5% overnight on other phones, not 10%.
Anybody else?
PS for those of you who want to say who cares, I did this test because I was noticing faster than usual idle drain during the day, too, but sleeping is the best time to get a long chuck of idle time.
Edit: could it be because the phone always has those sensors on waiting to to see if the phone moves to light up the time? Or the double twist for camera sensor always being on?

Get "Better battery stats" or a similar app to see what is running during idle. But to be fair that is just over 1% an hour.....that is not awful whatsoever. The only way you could get any better would be to disable any wifi/data, and those location services.....OR just turn the phone off completely. I've had phones that have had way higher drain on idle than 1.5%.

Like I said in my op, better battery stats showed 97% deep sleep in that time period overnight. And most of my other phones have lost only half as much or so overnight.

Inaccurate battery %??

After charging my battery fully to 100%, I unplug it from the charger and without even turning the screen on, the battery drains to 92% within one hour. I check the battery stats and there are maybe only a couple wakes during this time.
Sometimes, the battery shows a certain percentage longer than others. Example, my phone will be on 65% longer than it would be on 60%.
Battery still gives me a solid 2 days usage with about 3+ hours screen on time. The service menu also says that the battery is good.
Is there a way to get the battery reading to show more accurately?
Thanks,
Hope I could Help You
For your battery problem, I guess you could try calibrating it. And also try to install "Greenify" along with "Clean Master or 360 Security" and try to close all running apps before turning off the screen. I also turn on Stamina Mode when the battery is at 100%, in an attempt to further save battery life. And the result has been kinda meh, but well, battery drains about 1% per hour. It lasts about a day and half with light usage. In my case, light usage being, browsing, youtube videos for about 2 hours, listening to music, social networking and taking some pictures

Hey,
im using greenify (my phone is rooted). Battery is quite good for me though. I get about 3 days with light usage. I start charging my phone again when the battery gets to anywhere between 10-20%.
I read that maybe its better not to let it get so low?
I have no wake locks either.
Umm.. IMO, 10-20% is okay. I usually charge the phone when the battery gets around 5%. I read somewhere that charging battery too early can affect the battery's overall standby time (reducing it). It's better not to let the battery reach 0% though.
I had that happen with my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 earlier. I once let the battery dip all the way to 0% many times. After a few charge cycles, I found out that the battery was dead and wouldn't charge at all so I ended up buying a new battery :-/
Umm.. Coming back to our Z1's, could you try putting the phone in stamina mode everytime the phone is kept on standby mode? This boosted my battery life a lot I even put my phone on stamina mode throughout the whole night yesterday to test the battery life again, and when I switched on in the morning, I saw that the battery had dipped by just 2% (standby time of 7 hours). I'm really confused how your battery drops so fast, 100% to 92%.
Could you try calibrating the battery and then putting it in Stamina Mode while on Stanby and tell me the results? I hope I could help :fingers-crossed:

Yeah i could try to calibrate it. Im a little confused on what you do to calibrate the battery (ive read way to many opinions on this). Can you please tell me the steps.

Standby drain

When you sleep, does your phone sleep, or does it stay up all night and crunch 1s and 0s? Rate this thread to express how you deem the speed at which the BLU R1 HD's battery drains under standby conditions. A higher rating indicates that when the phone is not in use, the battery drains minimally.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Good very small drop while not being used, even when loaded up with apps.
I experience pretty bad battery drain on idle. Basically, if I leave my phone alone without turning on the screen, it would be fully drained in about 30 hours.
I've reset the phone many times but phone idle always remain as the top battery draining app. averaging about 100 mah per hour constantly.

Exactly this! My phone uses more battery while on standby than with the screen on watching things! I don't understand this behavior. Powernap + Greenify + Amplify doesn't solve it either, even the things that keep it "awake" are hibernated and also delayed by Amplify. Wakelock detector doesn't even detect any apps that are running during standby either. Also, I have no bad signal because it is always on full bars or 1 less than full.
If anyone figures it out I would love to know how to solve it.
I get this too. Im trying to debloat the rom of some apps that seem a little suspicious. Will do this tonight. Already backed up my current system partition in case I break something. Wish me luck! :good:

Tell us how it goes. I have actually converted the Amazon ROM to the OEM version, however, that doesn't fix the problem.

Me too. And I have debloted OEM rom to what I consider closest to slim or stock. We'll see later how it goes.
i've pretty much ran the Prime version debloated or the OEM debloated, same thing. I think it has to do with the phone radio and Android 6?
When I put it on airplane mode with only WIFI turned on, phone idle isn't as bad.
Maybe its kernel controlled? Have u tried flashing the 6.6 updates radio.img? Does it contain one? I only used prime to power on the phone from then on only OEM version debloated. And as you say its always consuming batt on idle. I'll give airplane mode a try today.
Alright, I have just installed the xposed module "MobileRadioActiveFix" so this will confirm if it is in fact the data that's impacting standby battery. However, not too sure because "Intelligent Battery Saving" does disable data over time and the draining is still happening in that mode.
Anyways, I'm going to be testing this and report back. @l33chpda @Alex_XV6700

I figured it out, I was monitoring the CPU states and the CPU is not using a hot plug. It nevers makes a core go offline even when the screen is off and it will ramp up while the screen is off because there doesn't seem to be a cap when the screen is off.
I think the only way that we are fixing this is if someone makes a kernel with a hot plug in it.
With Prime 6.4 mine lasts a month on Wi-Fi.

Yes, it doesn't make a difference. I do consistently get 4-6 hours for every two days, however, I can get more if the idle battery life is not there. For example, with your chart, my idle time would be about 45%-55% above the screen.
It's just the way it's reported in this ROM. Instead of looking at the battery stats, just look at the actual battery life of the phone, which is fine.
I have stock V12 vanilla ROM, and I find the standby drain can at times be worse than when I'm using the phone, and I'm not sure why. I'll put the phone in airplane mode and put it to sleep right after unplugging it from charging overnight and when I check on it in an hour or so it'll be down from 100% battery to 90%. When I turn off airplane mode and use the phone normally from that point on, battery drain is normal.

Yes, I experience the same thing! However, overnight, it drains about 10%-20% even though looking at the stats it is not even awake! It should only be draining about 1%-3% because it is not really doing anything at night.
Even the screen uses less power than the standby. @waingro808 could be possibly right that it is just reporting the battery stats different, however, on other phones with the phone idle, that percentage is very low and not as high as ours.

The battery stats dont add up either...
As you can see in my screenshots Im still 14% on battery
And it states that between SOT and Idle I have consumed more than the 2500mAh that this phone has on the battery.
