Like mcord said above, u could do all u want, and then set it back to stock in case u run into any issue. Just be careful not to brick ur phone, and cross check if u can get into the download and recovery modes, in case ur phone gets stuck at any place.
i DID root due to one click root program, phone is fully operational got rom manager installed and oclf installed, tried titianium back up paid, didnt install, uninstalled it looking for an easy 2.2 rom to flash. but did android explorer backup.

You have to install the free version of titanium then the paid. The paid just unlocks features on the free version. It is not actually a standalone app

oK will do, what will happen after att 2.2 update, will I still be in root?? If im still in root after update will I be able to use mobile hot spot feature?
You will need to re-root your phone IF and WHEN (if ever) AT&T releases the OTA 2.2.1 Froyo update.
After you start rooting and flashing - you'll never use AT&T's update as it is.. you'll just wait for the Odin or *.zip and do it that way.
I had to return the captivate, didnt work well as a phone. I did unroot it and master reset on it so its stock.. got an aria instead, works good as phone.

Oh man... should have checked here first. Some people trade their captivates in a couple times before getting one that is "perfect". I've never seen a model that can be so different phone to phone.
Also, I hated the captivate on the stock rom and was having some huge buyers remorse. I thought I made a huge mistake not getting an iphone 4. It wasn't until I flashed a custom rom that I started to love this phone. I had the same feeling that you did, that it was a neat toy but not a good phone.

I have it up and running on my X. Got the link from your thread in Rootzwiki. Thanks for releasing this.
I've got this rom on my samsung fascinate, and I have to say, it's the best rom out there. Even better than cm7. Does every single function work with this rom (gps, camera?) And in order to install it, is all I need to be on a rooted .34 and use bootstrap?
Sold my fascinate and my droidx and now both have miui and my HTC device does not. Looks like i have cake on my face.

It's a nice rom, I was on CM7, went to Apex, and then used bootstrap to get to Miui. I heard that the GPS does work(but my phone isn't activated and i can't use wifi to try it myself), I can confirm that the camera(pictures and video) works. as far as rooted .34, I don't know what that means?
thanks for ur quick response. So it's assumed that all the functions are working! I'll put this on my cousin's droid x asap! What I meant was, what were the initial steps that needed to be taken before I install this rom. There are no clear steps that I can find on this post at least.
You're welcome, all I did was use the Droid 2 bootstrapper(since that was what i had, and I was on Apex at the time which I think is a froyo based rom?), and went into recovery and did a factory restore, and installed the zip, and it booted. I took a risk, skipped backing up the rom and stuff before installing MIUI, but yeah make sure to back up the rom and stuff before you use the bootstrapper. I also read that full resolution should be working on the camera, the MIUI camera isn't included though, just the AOSP camera. Also the live wallpaper(only one on there) works.

I understand this runs the froyo kernel so im on liberty 2.1 can i bootstrap to recovery and flash this? Oh and do I need google apps as well?
Edit: Do I need to sbf back to stock then to cm7 then to miui?
Which version of Android is Liberty 2.1 based on(not sure if it matters as much as which kernel it's based on, if someone will clear it up for me), and which kernel is it based on? I don't know much about that rom. I know that at least the Market and Google Talk are included, Gmail is in there also(don't know if that's something that wouldn't be in a custom rom ie CM7).
EDIT: You should be able to install it from rooted froyo at least, but it would be good to find out if you could do it from Liberty, so you won't waste your time just in case you can.
Its 2.2 and I couldnt get it to install so i sbf'd back to stock and trying again.
Have you got it running? EDIT: This is Juanito216, i didn't know my sisters account was logged in lol.
Not booting apparently you need d2 bootstrap........sbf'ing again.
Edit: Still at moto logo. 4 minutes now not booting.
I recently installed MIUI on a coworkers OG Droid and fell in love. To have it on my X just a week later is awesome. This ROM is tizzits.
I can get cm7 to boot up but not miui wtf am I doing wrong?
Where the hell is everyone? Even IRC is completely empty.
Have you done a factory restore? Did you try wiping cache?

Im on my third sbf now. I rooted stock froyo got d2 bootstrap, got cm7 running, updated cwm to the latest version, wiped data and flashed miui and get stuck at m logo everytime.
I don't know what the issue could be, hopefully you can get it up and running soon.
I have just recently restarted using this phone due to my uscellular S4 getting turned off. I am now back on my LG-P990 currently rooted and running CM10.1. BUT most importantly to me is the fact that I have all my wonderful apps on my s4, I want to be able to use them by using the LG phone as a tether and calls not much else BUT CM10.1 tethering does not work, so i find myself flashing rom after rom, avatar rom, older CM mods, none would turn on tethering, so i flashed a modded version of MIUI for this phone and it worked except for ONE thing no signal, tethering turned on just fine so i decided to look around for other roms and found Slimrom TRYED to flash it didnt work, try to flash actual MIUI roms off there site, didnt work, met with an error in CWM Recovery after some searching I found its because Im running the OLD Bootloader -_- THIS is the issue im having IF MIUI does NOT work is it possible to downgrade the bootloader again so i can restore my CM10.1 backup? I have been working at this for a week, if there is something here about this can someone please just point me at it? I would appreciate any help.
On a side note i DID soft brick the phone the other day and found a program called nvflash witch flashed an install of CM mod. Dont know if that will help any.

I really do not understand how other ROMs deny Tethering. Did you flash the latest 2.x kernel by pengus77 after installing the rom? Did you make a clean install(wipe everything then install)? On the other hand, yes you can switch bootloaders as much as you like, just remember that changing the bootloader wipes everything on your internal memory, so do a backup. Did you try just plain old stock 4.0.4? Should work there. Ask anything you want, if you're still having questions.

As to the flashing to stock i lost the original rom backup i had made along time ago and cant find the original firmware anywhere online. When I flashed CM 10.1 I just ran with it, when i go to try tethering it says "Turning on portable wifi hotspot." and it stays on that no matter what untill i restart, left the phone running for 2 days once and that was still stuck on that before i restarted. As for flashing a 2.x kernel i had no idea about that. But yes when i did the installs i would do a clean wipe and install. Most of what i read online led me to believe that there was an error with CM 10.1 nightlys that was not being fixed for the tethering. So that is why i decided to go to another rom. Two questions one how do i go about finding the original firmware for this phone and two how would i go about updating or downgrading the bootloaders and could i be pointed to the files please?

Okay, This is SFSP by @sgspluss which is a pretty fast, stable and battery-friendly slimmed down version of stock ICS. It is available for both Old and NewBL, so you might want to try that first. This is AIO Toolkit. I know that you've used it and bricked your phone, but try again, and for the love of God install the nvflash drivers because most people skip that part. You have to do it manually and if you're running Windows 8 you need to disable Driver Signature Verification. But yeah, you switch bootloaders with this.
Alright, I'm in need of some help, and I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this thread, so if it';s in the wrong place, I'm sorry for taking up space in the wrong section.
My issue is with my Nexus 6, the Verizon variant; I had a custom kernal, running 6.0, and was rooted. I wanted to upgrade to 6.0.1, and downloaded the newer version of the ElementalX kernal, the one I was using, as well as the necessary SuperSU files. I downloaded the new Android version, installed it, and before it went intoi the OS, I flashed the kernal and SuperSU upgrade, and now my phone either won't boot, or is taking the longest time for a phone to boot on the planet.
I need to download a 6.0.1 ROM that I can flash with TWRP. Any links or advice anyone could offer would be grately appreciated, because right now, I'm drawing a massive blank.
Many thanks!
Do you need to backup any data?
Could you not just flash a stock "like" rom such as this one by Danvdh http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-5-1lightromstock-lmy47e-03-19-2015-t3059493 as it has already been rooted.
I have been running it for a while, very solid and stable rom.
Which SuperSU did you install?
Reflash the rom youre using and then flash Super su (asuming its not a pre-rooted rom) BEFORE flashing elemental x. Other kernels work the other way around
Question?
Are you trying to run systemless root wit EX? If so did you click on yes when TWRP asked you to root your rom?
That would would cause the rom not to boot.

Don't flash anything else till you boot at least once.

I decided to download and flash a custom CM13 build, but it's a bit finicky, kinda to be expected with an early release, though. I'm using that ROM, for now. I'd still prefer getting something from the CM team, something that's supported and I can download upgrades to.

Pretty sure it was 2.61. I have a few versions of it on my phone, ready for flashing, but was careful, making sure I chose the right one.

I'm not great with this stuff. Sorry4Noobishness. I'm not sure what systemeless rooting is.. Originally, I just flashed SuperSU and EX onto the stock ROM I was using. Worked fine. When I decided to upgrade, I downloaded the 6.0.1 ROM, installed it, but didn't boot into the OS. I booted into TWRP, and flashed the new EX and SuperSU stuff. The phone didn't boot after that. It was just stuck on the Google boot animation of all the interacting circles.
I decided to use a custom ROM, a CM13 ROM, but it isn't supported, which is why I'm not looking for a CM13 ROM I can use, because, well, I'd kinda like to be able to upgrade when an upgrade comes out.
Flashing a nightly build from their site did the same thing. I flashed the ROM, then gapps, then SuperSU, and it gets stuck on the boot animation. I let it sit for about half an hour, then restored the custom build I was using. I'm not really sure what to do to get a REAL CM13 build on this thing.

Sounds to me like you dont have the correct bootloader. Which bootloader are you currently using? try flashing the newest bootloader and radio then flash your rom again. It should then boot up fingers crossed.

Alright, I decided to go with this ROM, but now I'm stuck with an issue: It won't let me install any apps. Minimalist gapps was used, so I'm not sure what's wrong. Should I just flash stock gapps and see how it goes?

Wouldn't let me use the Play Store. Nothing would install, and it's kinda pointless to have an internet-capable device if it can't connect to what's supposed to provide me with that internet connectivity (downloading Chrome, for example). Had to flash stock gapps, but it all seems to be working now.
ok i bought a used note 4 as its my favorite phone to date i broke my old one over new years.
When i got it it was all ready rooted with tw recovery and had a version of maximum over drive installed and i belive beast mode kernel.
So i installed my universal sim chip from cricket got all excited and blam nothing.. so i was like ok wtf.. did some research for the last 2 days straight and i got every thing to work except being able to make a phone call lol.. so i flashed a new kernel.. yea my mistake.. flying blind playing the guessing game to get to where i was i figured the heck ..
So my phone would not boot past the first splash screen.. then i remembered the beast mode kernel i saw in about phone details.. found one and flashed it .. now im stuck at the second splash screen of samsung ..
i can get into recovery. i can use odin. but the phone wont boot the os..
so.. from start to finish.. what do i need to start over with to have a working phone.. sim unlock is taken care of now i just need to get back to basics.. please for simplicity sake list what i need from step 1 to what ever to get the phone back up and running..
maybe im just to tired and not thinking clearly..
thanks
never mind i figured out all of my mistakes..
so phones working.. just not calls and messaging or data
dang seems no one views these threads any more lol..
Ok so i have data working.. but still can not make or receive calls..
any ideas? OR ANY ONE HAVE A SURE FIRE SET UP THAT WILL WORK WITH A N910T ON CRICKET?
HERE IS WHAT IM CURRENTLY USING:
baseband: N910TUVU2EPJ2
KERNEL: 3.10.94-EMOTION-TW-NIGHTLY-R23
BUILD NUMBER: MAXIMUM_OVERDRIVE ROM VER 7.0
ANDROID 5.1.1
dang i dont want to create a double thread but i might have to ..this section is dead.
I would recommend going back to stock. If your phone is truly unlocked, it won't matter if you flash the original T-Mobile N910T stock ROM. Then, I suggest using a newer custom ROM, I think Emotion is a bit outdated, but I'm not sure

Austra S8, yeah it's stable. I've tested Norma and Apocalipse and they're also great
