Which rom should I flash - Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well my fire is coming next week and I want the most stable and fast rom, I don't care about customization i need it stable for daily use, please share your experience with me,by the way i am leaning toward Resurrection-Remix because root junky recommend it

I've been using RR for quite a while. SlimLP is pretty good too. Ironically the only one I haven't tried yet is CM 12. The other two are super stable in my experiences though.

SlimLP is very good, just be careful when using flashfire to install CM. My amazon fire is currently stuck on bootloop.

CM 12.1 is very stable. That is what i have installed on my amazon fire 7 inch. I am very surprised at what this $50 tablet can handle. Everything is very smooth. I used setcpu to adjust the cpu speed to my liking. Very smooth
NOTE: I don't have to use Flash Fire to flash as i didn't update my device. Have had no problems using TWRP to flash CM 12.1

I also don't have vibration but that really isn't a problem as the notification sounds work

There is no vibration because there is no hardware support so everything is fine now

[Q] streaming flash content cm10.1 4.2.2 issue

Any help would be greatly appreciated.Hello all thank you for you time. I'm running cm10.1 unofficial nightly build 05.22.13 on my touchpad with the latest adobe flash apk and Firefox app from Googleplay.
The issue that I'm having is my display would go to sleep as configure per my display setting while I'm streaming flash content at full screen. Not sure why this is happening and not sure if this is just my device. I didn't have this issue with cm9. Only notice this with cm10 and now 10.1. Theodd thing is that this issue is also happening with my nook color and nexus 7 with cm10.1
My current work around is setting display to time out 30 mins and touch the display every now and then.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks again
I did a quick search and found this app for you. I haven't tried it, but its worth a try.

Thank you. I went back to cm9 for stability but will keep this app in the back pocket . I was just curious to know if I was the only one experiencing this flash problem or its the same for everyone else. If its just me I wonder wat I did wrong with the install

Flash has never worked well on 4.1+ ROMs on the Touchpad in my experience. Flash isn't supported on 4.1+ but on other devices its still smooth so its a Touchpad Android issue not a Flash issue.
If you want Flash stay with CM9. I went back to CM9 after being on CM10 a while because I wanted stable Flash and couldn't really think of any new CM10 features that I needed.

First and foremost thank you for your input. It is true that flash is no longer supported on 4.1 + but it can and should be stable once installed. One example I can provide is with my nexus seven. With stock rom and latest flash APk installed it runs Smoth no problem but when it is rooted and custom rom installed display issue occurs. There must be some config in the rom where display would remain awake when certain apps are running at full screen. Also its hard to see that its a touch pad issue because this is happening to other devices that I've installed custom 4.1+ rom. I'm currently back with cm9. For stability until cm 10.1 is more stable will switch.

Flash runs smooth on my Droid3 with CM10.1 even though the rom is far from stable. Also runs well on the Razr with stock 4.1.2 update. Its just on the Touchpad that 4.1+ have issues with flash in my experience.

[Q] Most Stable ROM

Hi everyone,
I recently installed android on my friend's Touch Pad. Which ROM do you recommend as the most stable/usable ROM? (While being new and hopefully rather current as - like Android 4.1 or 4.2). My friend is definitely not familiar with flashing or anything like that, but she knows how to use android. As I will be moving out of the state at the end of this week, I want to leave her with a good ROM that will be nice and stable and easy for her to use. What do you all suggest? Thanks!
Tough one just have to flash them all and test I would go for cm10 night lies because they'll constantly update it and all you have to do is go into settings and update it.

Thanks, I'm trying a couple. I had a 4.2.2 mashup of CM, AOKP, and PA. It was a bit buggy, and probably too confusing for my friend. She does really like the PIE controls though so I'm trying to get a stable one with those. If not I'll just go for the CM10 nightlies probably. Thank you sir!
for me, the most stable roms are the standard CM9 nightlies.
they benchmark higher than any of the 4.2.2 builds, and has working bluetooth and no UI issues as noted on the CM10 and CM10.1 builds.
every few weeks I backup my HP touchpad and install some of the latest roms and always come back to CM9. it just works better, and best of all, it has a better UI (while the tablet UI mod helps with CM10 and 10.1, it does not fix all of the issues. and for CM10.1 there is no 120dpi so you are stuck with everything being oversized for the screen
while with cm9 all you need is the CWM flashable 120dpi patch which still works with the latest nightly builds and takes care of any market place issues.
Overall for everyday use, CM9 is still the way to go.
I attached the 120dpi patch that I use. It only works on CM9

I've used both CM9 & CM10 and found them to be very stable.
I downloaded. And installed the LCD density trick. Fonts are too small for me. How can I undo it?

If you are on CM10 and the 120dpi is too small, to undo it flash the 160dpi file
the CWM dpi patches are the only ones that have worked for me, I have tried android 4.1 and 4.2 and the only recommendations for adjusting the dpi is using apps from the market place and all of the recommended ones for me have not worked, most causes the rom to not boot fully.
The main thing holding me back from going to anything higher than CM9, is the lack of stable bluetooth support, the new android 4.1+ UI that is just a more screen space wasting version of the cellphone UI (not tablet optimized at all), and the issue with no 120DPI mod working with it.
Have been using CM9 for a long time with no complaints other than battery life. I think there may be some kernels that are better, but I like when the battery runs out and my kids have to put it down. A timer of sorts. I have not found a combination that can compare to WebOS for battery life. But, Android has all the latest stuff now for the kids, so, Android it is. I still use WebOS, though, when I can.
CM10.1 nightlies by milaq have been very stable for me. I experienced random crashing of the default browser in CM9 nightlies but none in CM10.1.
Obviously the missing Bluetooth in CM10.1 may be an issue for some but I haven't really used BT for anything.

i beg to differ. I would go with shumash 4.2.2. ROM

Any stable ROM?

I am currently running ancient cm10.1 20130604 nightly for last several months. I tried to upgrade a few times to 4.3 but had stability issues and went back to this ROM, which is more stable than others though power loss in sleep is still a concern along with BT.
Any recommendation on a more stable ROM? The Kitkat build looks juicy but my kid uses this tablet mainly and he gets upset if the battery dies too quickly or the system crashes
Thanks for any comments.
By the way, any way to see the partition sizes? I think I increased the system partition to 512MB before installing 4.3 but don't remember now.
Found Partition in Play store. Worked like a charm. I only have 393MB in /system and /data 3527MB. I guess going back to 10.1 restored the partition table as well.
I'd say just grab the latest version of 10.1 (2014-01-13). There's not too much of an advantage for 10.2 or 11. The cm11 3.0 kernel version is also close, but things like mic and camera are still broken.

Hi @scy1192,
I'm using CM 9 should i format to update to CM10.1 or just a flash?
Does the battery lasts long compared to CM 9?

I'd say flash it and if you have any problems, do a factory reset. No use getting rid of all your data if it's not harming anything, but then again there might be some odd thing that breaks when upgrading.
As for battery, I personally found it better on CM10.1 than CM9.
Thanks

stable rom
HI
I'm using CM11 Milaq and its very stable. There's still some things that aren't working. Like camera,Netflix version 3.x..etc. Buts its a very stable build. The best build I ever had installed that was really stable and ever thing worked, was evervolv CM10.2. This ROM was really good and stable I don't remember ever having any problems with it at all.

Best daily driver?

I have been running cm11 as my daily driver lately and wanted to try something new. Can any of you recommend some stable and debloated daily drivers?
Any Stock ROM imo (which this whole thread rly is)
Xdabbeb's ROM
Stock. It's the new custom ROM. Just root, debloat and ad block. You can ad some other tweaks using Xposed, but not really necessary.

I'm surprised by the lack of responses to your question. I guess everyone has their own preferences, but I'll give you some insight from my experiences.
Stock Based Rom: XDABEBB. Very clean and very stable. Perfectly debloated. Play Store and QRemote are already baked into the Rom so you don't need to flash GAPPS nor LGAPPs unless you want to add more.
AOSP Based Rom: crDroid. Stable. Fast. AOSP.
I've run Maladus, Rage Rom, AICP, Resurrection Remix (which is awesome), and BeanStalk. They all are great and I recommend trying them all. You really can't go wrong.
Good luck.
Looks like I won't be flashing for a while. Got black lines all over my Screen.

It has been pretty stable, the only issue I had was tethering but that was fixed with blackbird kernel 2.1
Install gapps just like on any other ROM.

Tethering was only broken on two nightly builds when 7.1.1 was merged. It's been fixed on 'stock' CM-kernel.
I'm on the latest lightly and with the default kernel it's broke for me, even on a clean install. Weird..... Lol

I had it working great today after struggling with the nightly that would crash on install, from a few weeks back. Got newer nightly and flashed, and worked awesome. Then dumbass me, saw the available CM update from the built in updater. Did that and completely borked my phone. Could not read from storage to even go back to a saved backup. Asked for password then rebooted to recovery. Every time, wipes did not fix. Maybe if I lurked on here on a daily basis I would have not made the mistake but it was unhealthy dose of stress from my daily driver. I got it alive again but it is a secret. Now I'm stock and unrooted and my wife said "I told you not to root it, again"...face palm.

My plan is to stick with the last CM 13.0 nightly until OmniROM 7.x hits.
I've been testing it for a while but was not stable and some bugs, so I switched to Nitrogen OS. Much better now.
No need to use another ROM. The last CM-14.1 nightly is stable and usable as daily driver.
We are transitioning our work to LineageOS. If we have everything running you need to flash it once manually....after that ther will be an updater like cmupdater.
