Z5 Compact - not able to change USB mode - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Happy New Year to everyone
I've encountered the following problem:
[short version]
I'm not able to change the USB-mode on my Z5 compact because this option's apparently not available any more in settings after the lastest Sony update. Is there a number code or another way to access it anyway?
Device: Xperia Z 5 Compact, E5823
latest Sony software update
Android: 5.1.1
Kernel: 3.10.49-perf-g75e6207
Build-Number: 32.0.A.6.200
phone is not rooted
[background]
I was going to make a backup with Helium when Helium asked me to change the phone to camera mode. There, the menu item "connectivity" (or "connection" - I'm not sure how it's translated) popped up and I changed the setting as asked. At least I thought so. Apparently, I've changed it into "charge only" as now, the phone's not recognized anymore via usb port.
We've tried different kind of cables, different pcs. --> not working
We've tried connecting a friend's phone on my pc which worked.
I can charge the phone through the charger.
We've tried a soft reset --> not working
We've tried entering recovering mode --> couldn't enter
We've tried contacting Sony support but all they had was "got to 'settings --> Xperia-connectivity --> USB mode" ...
We've activated developer settings --> no further help there
"Xperia-connectivity" is not available anymore as apparently it got removed by Sony with the latest update.
Since Helium could access it, it must still be there - and I hope you guys have a way to access it for me. Is there a number code for that maybe?
Helium won't start anymore - as it needs the connection between phone and pc.
As Helium's apparently the only app/program to backup an unrooted Sony phone with app-settings - and it's not working without a valid usb-connection with the pc - it'll be awesome to find a way to restore usb connectivity without doing a hard reset.
I hope you could help me out here.
Cheers from Germany,
Anja

First this is the XPERIA Z section not Z5 Compact nonetheless when you connect the USB there is a persistent notification at the status bar, tap the notification and the setting should pop up
PS: 1: You couldnt enter recovery because you dont have a custom one ( Stock recovery is useless )
2: Xperia Z5 Compact section http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact

[Q] Sony Xperia Z Patching Problems

Morning all,
First time poster here, I'll try to make this as concise as possible.
Short / TLDR Question: My Sony Xperia Z handset isn't able to install the 10.31.a.2.67 patch either via WiFi or the Sony Companion. Any ideas appreciated.
Longer Version I've recently picked up Sony Xperia Z to replace an older one that I'd damaged in stag do celebrations. Research indicated it would be cheaper to get a new one rather than spring for repairs. The OS version on the replacement is 4.1.2 with build number 10.1.a.1.350. It's a pre-owned one and looks like it's had a soft reset from the settings menu. I've run through and installed the stuff I need, configured it preferred but the last thing I can't do is to install the patch. I'm led to believe that the phone has been developed against as
1 - Plugging it into a desktop via the USB led it to enter debugging mode
2 - There is a root viewer application on the handset
3 - Developer options were turned on
I've tried to get the patch installed a number of times but to no avail. It'll download something (as shown via the GUI) but upon restart all I see is the Xperia logo, a successful boot and then the error message to state it won't install. I don't have access to any log files or error messages to let me take this further.
Because of the above, I'm thinking that a previous developer has possibly something to stop any further patches installing? The fixes I've tried this far: -
1 - Updating the patch from cable doesn't work. The Sony Companion can't detect the phone when connected via the USB
2 - Checking that the default applications are installed.
As such, I'm not sure where to turn next. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Update: I work as an IT professional and as such I'm comfortable with devices and operating systems. I'm not used to development or the sort of development that's involved with android devices.

download firmware from here
download flashtool from here
flash the firmware using flashtool
Thanks for the links. I'm assuming the flash tool has instructions? I've not flashed a handset before.

[Q] How to get past the lockscreen?

Hello, everyone. I have searched basically every thread and looked up a lot up posts and couldn't solve the problem which is why I am creating a new thread. Apologies for the same.
So here's the problem on my Xperia Z C6602.
I am stuck on the lockscreen. Can't remember the pattern. Can't login through Google cos the Wifi and Data Connection is off. I tried the service menu code but it doesn't work, I'm updated to the latest version of Android. I can't update/repair phone through Sony Companion cos it says there is no software available. I used the flashtool but it says "Device cannot be officialy unlocked". I went through ADB and the phone connection is perfectly fine (got a 0.5s response) but I cannot unlock the bootloader as I get a FAILED message. I used the flashtool provided by Sony but my phone is recognized as locked and I can't do anything there either. I'm running out of options
Some help would be really appreciated. Thank you, kind people.

You can have a factory reset by pressing few times volume up/down (can't remember up or down) button to enter recovery when the phone is booting with SONY logo

[Q] Forgotten pin can any one help?

Hi, I am trying to get into stock recovery to factory reset my partners xperia z3 compact. She set a pin but must have hit an incorrect digit and now we cant unlock. I thought having a gmail account linked allowed us to reset via gmail but it does not appear to work. I have seen tutorials to get into recovery but none seem to work. What are my options?
Thanks
Ady
As far as I can tell, the only way to do this is using Sony's PC software: http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/xperiaz3compact/tools/pc-companion/
I would love it if someone found another way to do it though, like using flashtool or something.
Actually i found there is and it elimated so much headache. So long as you have gps enabled you can use the Android device manager throgh your pc to wipe the phone remotely. Hey presto all done. Sony pc companion would have worked but as the phone is locked its not detected by the software!? Go figure.

Locked screen removal ?

Hey, i have got a little problem. My friends from school had locked my phone by a pattern lock. The worst thing is they don't remember it ... Isthere any way to take it off or even factory reset my sony xperia z3 compact ?
I got this phone couple days ago and i dont want to destroy it ;C
The phone is not rooted or unlocked ;S
factory reset, yes, use PC Companion for this.
in the future, set the pattern yourself and don't give this phone to these kind of friends.
Can't after i installed pcc and plugged my phone into pc i got something like this
"Your tablet/phone memony is not accessible
1.The sim card is inserted an the pin code entered
2.the screen of phone / tablet is unlocked"
:S
To fix this issue, I would recommend you to re-install the OS on the phone using the tool Flashtool with a firmware file. These can be obtained in the general section of the forum, and there should be plenty of tutorials on how to use Flashtool to restore your phone in the forums.

Forgot Pattern need help

So I recently had the idea to save my pictures from my older android Phones luckily on my other devices I either deleted the pin or changed it to 0000 but on my Xperia Z i forgot.
So the situation is that the device is no longer connected to my google account.
It has wifi and I think it is not encrypted since it is showing me downloading offline maps and a bunch of random stuff.
the boot loader is locked and I don't remember if usb debugging is on I only now for sure that I don't have a system which was connected in the past over adb. Oh and I already tried the *#*#7378423#*#* and it wasn't working.
Please help I just want to access my files.
