Hey guys,
just a short question, i couldnt find any information about this problem in the world wide web
I've replaced the display of my Z3 Compact. Now i see strange color / lightning issues, when the display is "cold" (e.g. when the phone is idleing on my desk) Additionally, you can see "burned in" Icons from the launcher.
Whenever i heat up the display a little bit, all problems are gone. (perfect light, nice colors + no burned in icons)
Example:
Cold Display:
http://abload.de/img/colddlp31.jpg
Warm Display (just 60 seconds under a desk lamp)
http://abload.de/img/warmorohm.jpg
I need to say, that I'm quite sure it is no original Sony Display. On the other side.. i dont want to replace it again, because it works when its warm..
Does anybody know, why my display is behaving this way?
Thankyou!

Sorry, I can't help you with your problem, but your red cover looks nice (it's a cover right?). Where could I get one? Thank you.

99% it's a hardware issue that needs to be examined by repair center. I'd recommend you to send the phone for warranty service.

It's not a cover. It's the color of the phone itself, it's mandarin
it looks like this
Looks like the adhesive used to bond the replacement screen to the frame is too thin causing back pressure on the display when cold. Likely non-oem parts were used to replace the screen and they are not to spec.
Yes, it is just a bad GLUE paste

Hello people,
I rarely see a burnt in (like old crt screens) image on the bottom of the screen.
For example when I change the volume, the softkey labels of the today screen are still visible, along with a white line. Most times it is normal so I don't worry very much but I'm wondering if someone else has the same issue.
I've tried many versions of hardspl (because they seem to be connected with some screen issues) but the problem still exists.
Hi i have the exact same issue, i put a post up a month ago not had any response on it. I have a MDA compact IV, not updated any ROM or HARDSPL yet. I was tempted to update to see if the problem could be rectified.
Have you update to a cooked rom? I might send mine back to have it fixed if its a screen issue.
Mine only holds the "burnt in image" along the right of the screen from top right corner to bottom right corner around 3cm in.
Also i have noticed the "Burnt in image" seems to get stronger when the device heats up. If i use GPS or 3G, this seems to affect the screen.
My background is black which makes it really noticable, i think if i stick with the orginal t-mobile white background it's probably not that noticable.
mmm
Perhaps the units you bought where like demo units. Those units that are displayed all day long turned for people to look at them. I have read in another forum that perhaps that distortion is caused by extreme temperatures, cold or heat.
well i'm still trying to figure out what is causing it, as I notice it only once in maybe a week. Maybe temperature is the most probable cause. For me I notice the defect only in gray background (e.g. when changing volume or launching opera).
My unit was from the first batch from expansys (origin htc asia)
It's possible your handsets have screens which are somehow susceptible to heat damage from inside the phone. This would be no fault of your own, but a manufacturing defect.
I'd suggest returning the phone to the retailer, HTC or the operator depending on your situation.
However, if you're using the phone in extreme conditions, ie low temperatures, you may very well find the LCD slow to refresh or have some level of image retention.
Let us know the outcome
i also have a ripple effect when pressing, but its more apparent with black. its also a first gen model, so i think ima make a phone call to htc. maybe a can get a new device.
for the burn in, try this:
1. Go to power settings, deselect automatic backlight management.
2. Pull up backlight level to maximum.
3. Reselect automatic.
You should be ok!
If not, faulty device!

Ok I will try this although I can't see how the backlight can affect the screen. In order to repair it with warranty I would have to send it to expansys uk (because it is not a European device) and I bet it would take long
Have you tried removing the battery for a while - some lcd screens can get the memory effect, and cutting power for long enough normally cures it.
My phone actually holds the previous menu under the current menu.
Example i'm on the home screen, goto messages and send a text using the qwerty keyboard. Back to the home screen, i can see a very faint image of the qwerty keyboard under the Programs hotkey.
When the PIN lock comes on the bottom right is "MENU", i can see a faint "programs" letters icon underneath it.
I will try and leave the battery out for a few hours, if not a call to t-mobile!
ok, i have the same "problem". even after a soft-reset the words CommManager
and Programs are still slightly visible in the boot screen.
but: as mentioned above, turning the device off for a couple of minutes cures
this, and the screen is dark as hell again!
really seems to be some kind of memory effect!
regards,
markus
Left the battery out for a few hours, made no difference. I guess is not a software problem.
will be giving t-mobile a call tomorrow!
:-(
I guess every htc device must have a flaw...
when it does it again I will try to take a photo of it and post it here
Hi same problem here.... See my post below..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417629
I thought it was due to Spb Shell but no, now i'm happy i'm not alone..
But what solution for this??
I'm not worried about the burn in looks.. My worry is whether this behavior of the screen will progressively damge the screen???
I have been using the Diamond at full backlight.. Last few days i've put it down to minimum, but the problem persists!!!
ok, I think it happens when it overheats.
So that is why it is caused when charging.
wtf?
No its not due to overheating, coz LCD screen are supposed to tolerate temperatures upto 80degree C... Dont know if its related to electro magnetic radiation, may be looks like it's more after i use the network...
Hi another mate has this problem Andrew...

Hi,
i sent my phone back to T-Mobile hoping they will fix this issue with the screen. Just received the phone and it looks like they have done nothing On the job sheet all it says is "Software updated"? The problem is still there!
I dont think there is a fix as such, it looks like this is the cause
http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/image-sticking.html
I'll try if i can get a completely white background and leave the screen on for a while at the brighest setting, if this will erase the screen issue?
the problem appears more often now on my device....
It does not have to do with heat afterall.
Why would the image "stick" when the phone is off? I mean that many times I see the symptoms right after I switch the phone on.
Do we have any screen experts in the forum?

After calling up T-Mobile and made a complaint saying nothing had been done by the repair centre, they gave up and agreed to give me a handset replacement. Received the handset today, looks like a refurbed one? Anyway my problem is now fixed. Left the phone on a while and it got pretty hot, no ghosting on the screen
The restore was a pain, Wifi didn;t work, the HSDPA didn;t work. But after a few hours messing around it's all up and running so far.
I just got a tilt about a week ago and ive noticed that in the middle of the screen there seems to be a purple greenish tint when put against incandescent light. The size of said glint varies in size but i'm unable to see what changes the size. Not sure if its heat or pressure or something. The touch screen works perfectly its just really annoying to always see such an annoying glint.
An interesting discovery is that when i press all four corners of the screen it disappears and when i press in the middle of the little square it seems to spread out. I feel like theres some kind of material or something in the touch screen that is causing this due to pressure. I keep it in a hard case in my pocket so the screen isnt pressed on inadvertently.
I've searched the forum for any answers but i havent seen anything about it. Any response or help would be greatly appreciated. I'll try to get a picture of it up asap but i left my camera at a friends house and dont know when im getting it back...thanks in advanced
~sayazs
Do you see the same "annoying glint" under neon light (not day / sunlight)?
Lots of NOKIA and SONY ERICSSON phones for example get this screen recolorization under direct sunlight - this has nothing to do with the screen being defective but with the plastic above the screen which breaks the light and shows you this colored spots. If you can't see the same spot under direct neon light then this might be the cause.
It is normal that you get color changes while pressing the screen in. First of, you press / bent the protecting plastic and the liquid within the screen which causes the incoming light to break in a different angle, therefore the color changes. (BTW: you shouldn't do that too often, it can cause permanent stains on your screen!).
There sure is the possibility that your screen gets pressure from underneath due bad assembling! If you're still under warranty, try to get a replacement.
yeah you cant see it in day light. but i feel as though there is constant pressure on the screen between the plastic and liquid since the spot is always there and doesnt really go away (unless of course in daylight).
well im thinking im going to go back for a replacement. thanks for the quick answer!
Hello,
if I use my X1 in a dark ambience with a dark background on the telephone, I can see that some areas of the display are brighter than others (particularly the top right and left side of the display).
Its only visible in dark areas with a dark picture on the telephone (e.g. the Sony Ericsson start up screen). If I have a colured picture or white picture and if the ambience is bright I cant see the brighter areas anymore.
Is this phenomenon ok or is my X1 damaged?
I think its normal (whether that's OK for you or me is a different question)
There were 2 or 3 threads on this a couple of months back -try searching for "light bleeding" or "screen fade" or "light leakage" and you should find them
Thank you for the post!
Seems that everyone has this problem so it wouldnt be helpful to return it, right?
How do you mean i don't get it.
i don't have any problems with the backlight

Thnx, I hope i don't get any problems with my backlight or else i would be very upset
My X1 doesn't seem to have this issue
But maybe I should try with something darker than this...
You need to photograph your display while having a dark picture on it. The failure is a physical one, that is why you cant save it with a screenshot.
Another question:
Varies the intensity of the bleeding problem from phone to phone or has the problem everytime the same intensity on every phone in case that the problem occurs?

The top left/right corners are a bit "yellow" for me, I guess that's just normal.
It really isn't noticable most of the time though, so I don't care about it .
Yes you are absolutely right, they are a bit yellow!
And only visible with a black backround, right?
Probably heat related.
Check it with the X1 stone cold, check it when it's been in use for a while.
Sorry but what is the X1 stone cold?

Oops sorry, regional thing I guess.
I mean when it's cold as in hasn't been turned on for a while, hasn't been on charger for a while (and is as cold as a stone )
Hmh as far as I can see is the problem everytime the same. It doesnt matter if the telephone is hot or not.
Old thread, but actual situation...
I have the same problem: on the top right corner (and just a bit on the top left corner) when the display is on and black (start up, panel manager etc.), i see a yellow light...
Should i return it?
Hi I have a small problem with my galaxy and I wonder if it is a common thing or is it a sporadic case. I recently took my galaxy in assistance for the replacement of the screen (between lcd and capacitive glass had a hair) Once again after a while 'I realized (I think that there is a problem from the beginning) that appeared on the display strange signs. Initially I thought it was a lcd problem then I tried to shift the LCD image and saw that signs remained fixed as if they were between display and glass. I brought the phone back in service but they said there were no defects. For sureness (they were very nice) they showed me another galaxy just out of the box and presented the same peculiarities. It seems to me (but I'm not sure) that the first galaxy that I had not had this feature.
If you want to help me try to manually set the display brightness to low and pull down the curtain of the notification bar, or choose a dark gray background and gimme an answer.
thank you
i attach a photo
anyone?
I saw that many people have downloaded the image.
thank you
Can you explain what is so peculiar about it ? I dont see anything wrong with that image . Is it the three orange color curved lines ?? (though that looks to me like a reflection of something).
Are you talking about the red haloing effect around the white text?
Apart from the orange claw 'reflection' in the top right there is nothing discernible about that image.
orange signs are camera lens reflection. I talk about grey zones of images. If you watch closely you notice that some grey pixel zones are different from other. With a kind of green blur.
thank you for your answers
Is this what you are concerning about?

Hello all, my past 3 AMOLED phones have been facing burn-in where the keyboard is displayed as I tend to chat a lot! Can anyone give me an option to avoid it? Please don't troll and say use less keyboard!
Might help if you keep the brightness on the lower side, other than that seems like catch22
Also choose a darker theme for the keyboard.

That's why it kept happening for me... The I turn it to light mode and then the burn in goes away!
Dark mode will help reduce it, but I leave my phone set to auto switch light and dark mode based on sunrise and sunset, this way whatever app I'm using also switches, so the light and dark apps, flip button colours as well so anything white on a black screen also becomes black on a white screen so it helps reverse any burnin in that sense too.
For example, texting apps usually also have white icons at the top which can burn in with dark mode, so if you switch to light mode, the same icons are now black on a white screen, so the screen burns but the icons don't, so it all slowly burns in together and nothing becomes noticeable.
Been doing this after getting burnin on my S10+ using only darkmode and light icons left burnin. And then on my S20 Ultra I did the flipping light and dark mode and never had issues but I also had the full screen settings to hide the pinhole camera so it made the entire top black, and then One UI 3.0 came out and they removed that option so now you can't hide the pinhole camera and I had a burnin bar across the top from where it was black lol.
Now on my S21 Ultra I have the light and dark mode set to flip at sun rise and sun set, and I can't hide the pin hole so maybe third phone is the charm here and I won't have any burnin at all this time haha.
Hope this helps.
There is no burn in with AMOLEDs; they have a finite lifespan and get dimmer as they age before finally failing after many 10's of thousands hours.
Don't over drive them by using them at maximum or near maximum levels.
High energy blue pixels are the most susceptible to damage, red the least because of its longer wavelength.
Use manual brightness control. Avoid going much over 50%.
Using full brightness reduces pixel lifespan as probably does high temperatures ie direct sunlight.
Limit usage at full brightness by the second*.
Using manual control ensures you're aware of it and keeps the phone from auto jacking it up on you when not really needed.
Turn it down in low light; don't burn out your retina's as they aren't replaceable.
Use dark mode whenever possible. Use dark or black wallpaper. You Good Lock to get rid of the stutus bar icons; simply use the pull down notification screen.
My 10+ gets heavy usage every day with a lot of keyboard time. At 15+ months there is no discernible weakness or dead pixels of any color at any brightness level.
*this is especially important with static images

you say you had burn in from keeping a black bar in the area where the pinhole was?
that doesnt make any sense. If it was black those pixels were off and there wouldnt be any burn in

Reverse burn in, the screen area being used has a yellowish tone to it from being worn in over time, no matter how long the display is on, it's always burning in and the colour always adjusts over time from the burn in, it's the image retention burn in that people talk about, but the entire screen is always burning the entire time it's used. So by never using the top area the pixels are fresh and have a cooler tone to them than the rest of the screen as a result of this.

Indeed. And to add, perhaps occasionally change from white to black keyboard to even things out.
This is a good one. Says something about fast charging and not showing this message again. Guess they forgot to check don’t show again.
No offence but:
Pay 1.2K for phone after you see super HDR, huge brightness etc. and then limit everything to minimum? Seriously?
If I see them, I will ask EE(my phone provider) to replace it. I had same issue with OP 7 Pro, screen burn ins, they have replaced phone.

Samsung shifts the AOD clock to help prevent this. However I use only tap on AOD now.
Perps know the deal, organic LEDs have a finite lifespan. Yeah you can drive your car as fast as it will go but you probably don't because you know it wouldn't last very long.
You wonder why the price tag keeps going up?
Freebies are never free.
Using in direct sunlight or at 80+% is just asking for it. In most cases completely avoidable. One can at least limit the time of use at full brightness and not have a homescreen that looks like a Vegas billboard.

I live in Texas desert, the sun here is intense.
It burns out LED traffic lights all the time; OLEDs are far less tolerant.
Simply use in the shade.
The individual pixels are microscopic. That they work at all is amazing let alone being capable of high lumen output with extremely excellent color/gamma rendering.
The AMOLED matrix has 10's of thousands of active solid state components not just the OLED pixels themselves. All are hest sensitive plus the fact the display is helping to dissipate mobo heat while producing heat of it's own. The most heat sensitive component, the OLED is smack on top of this glass heatsink*.
Direct sunlight in especially high ambient temperatures is a real bad plan. You can fry any display like this.
Know, understand and respect their limitations. You will be rewarded with a long lived gorgeous display.
*glass is a good thermal insulator. Do tempered glass protective screens increase the thermal burden? Most likely. If cool at first the added mass will be protective but once the device (or the sun) heats that mass up things will go down hill from there and the display temperature will rapidly climb.

Common sense should prevail I guess. I live in a place hotter than Spain. If I were to use my device in the middle of the day in bright sun light it’ll cook after 15mins. Hence why I don’t. But then would any other device.
