Hello people,
I rarely see a burnt in (like old crt screens) image on the bottom of the screen.
For example when I change the volume, the softkey labels of the today screen are still visible, along with a white line. Most times it is normal so I don't worry very much but I'm wondering if someone else has the same issue.
I've tried many versions of hardspl (because they seem to be connected with some screen issues) but the problem still exists.
Hi i have the exact same issue, i put a post up a month ago not had any response on it. I have a MDA compact IV, not updated any ROM or HARDSPL yet. I was tempted to update to see if the problem could be rectified.
Have you update to a cooked rom? I might send mine back to have it fixed if its a screen issue.
Mine only holds the "burnt in image" along the right of the screen from top right corner to bottom right corner around 3cm in.
Also i have noticed the "Burnt in image" seems to get stronger when the device heats up. If i use GPS or 3G, this seems to affect the screen.
My background is black which makes it really noticable, i think if i stick with the orginal t-mobile white background it's probably not that noticable.
mmm
Perhaps the units you bought where like demo units. Those units that are displayed all day long turned for people to look at them. I have read in another forum that perhaps that distortion is caused by extreme temperatures, cold or heat.
well i'm still trying to figure out what is causing it, as I notice it only once in maybe a week. Maybe temperature is the most probable cause. For me I notice the defect only in gray background (e.g. when changing volume or launching opera).
My unit was from the first batch from expansys (origin htc asia)
It's possible your handsets have screens which are somehow susceptible to heat damage from inside the phone. This would be no fault of your own, but a manufacturing defect.
I'd suggest returning the phone to the retailer, HTC or the operator depending on your situation.
However, if you're using the phone in extreme conditions, ie low temperatures, you may very well find the LCD slow to refresh or have some level of image retention.
Let us know the outcome
i also have a ripple effect when pressing, but its more apparent with black. its also a first gen model, so i think ima make a phone call to htc. maybe a can get a new device.
for the burn in, try this:
1. Go to power settings, deselect automatic backlight management.
2. Pull up backlight level to maximum.
3. Reselect automatic.
You should be ok!
If not, faulty device!

Ok I will try this although I can't see how the backlight can affect the screen. In order to repair it with warranty I would have to send it to expansys uk (because it is not a European device) and I bet it would take long
Have you tried removing the battery for a while - some lcd screens can get the memory effect, and cutting power for long enough normally cures it.
My phone actually holds the previous menu under the current menu.
Example i'm on the home screen, goto messages and send a text using the qwerty keyboard. Back to the home screen, i can see a very faint image of the qwerty keyboard under the Programs hotkey.
When the PIN lock comes on the bottom right is "MENU", i can see a faint "programs" letters icon underneath it.
I will try and leave the battery out for a few hours, if not a call to t-mobile!
ok, i have the same "problem". even after a soft-reset the words CommManager
and Programs are still slightly visible in the boot screen.
but: as mentioned above, turning the device off for a couple of minutes cures
this, and the screen is dark as hell again!
really seems to be some kind of memory effect!
regards,
markus
Left the battery out for a few hours, made no difference. I guess is not a software problem.
will be giving t-mobile a call tomorrow!
:-(
I guess every htc device must have a flaw...
when it does it again I will try to take a photo of it and post it here
Hi same problem here.... See my post below..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417629
I thought it was due to Spb Shell but no, now i'm happy i'm not alone..
But what solution for this??
I'm not worried about the burn in looks.. My worry is whether this behavior of the screen will progressively damge the screen???
I have been using the Diamond at full backlight.. Last few days i've put it down to minimum, but the problem persists!!!
ok, I think it happens when it overheats.
So that is why it is caused when charging.
wtf?
No its not due to overheating, coz LCD screen are supposed to tolerate temperatures upto 80degree C... Dont know if its related to electro magnetic radiation, may be looks like it's more after i use the network...
Hi another mate has this problem Andrew...

Hi,
i sent my phone back to T-Mobile hoping they will fix this issue with the screen. Just received the phone and it looks like they have done nothing On the job sheet all it says is "Software updated"? The problem is still there!
I dont think there is a fix as such, it looks like this is the cause
http://www.practical-home-theater-guide.com/image-sticking.html
I'll try if i can get a completely white background and leave the screen on for a while at the brighest setting, if this will erase the screen issue?
the problem appears more often now on my device....
It does not have to do with heat afterall.
Why would the image "stick" when the phone is off? I mean that many times I see the symptoms right after I switch the phone on.
Do we have any screen experts in the forum?

After calling up T-Mobile and made a complaint saying nothing had been done by the repair centre, they gave up and agreed to give me a handset replacement. Received the handset today, looks like a refurbed one? Anyway my problem is now fixed. Left the phone on a while and it got pretty hot, no ghosting on the screen
The restore was a pain, Wifi didn;t work, the HSDPA didn;t work. But after a few hours messing around it's all up and running so far.

Hello all.
So, long story as short as possible:
My Tilt got run over, LCD screen was busted but I could still make and receive calls by sliding it open, hitting the call button and using the keyboard to dial and 'enter' to connect.
I was also still able to connect to the phone via bluetooth from my mac, as well as syncing it on my PC partition.
Eventually, I think I hit too many random buttons and turned the phone off or something as I could no longer get it to dial out this way. I was always getting the flashing green and blue lights though.
After some research (and un-won auctions on eBay) I decided to see if popping in a new LCD screen would fix my situation.
I installed the new LCD last night, and the machine is almost back to living, however, I now have the current problems:
When the phone boots into 'normal' mode, the screen is display is very truncated. It doesn't display the full HTC updated today screen and won't respond to touch. It says 'no service' but wi-fi seems to connect. If I slide it open, the keyboard lights up but doesn't respond, neither do the front keys. Also, I get only a solid orange light in the upper left LED.
If I boot the phone into 'Safe Mode' it responds to touch, connects to the AT&T network, connects to Wi-Fi, etc. The front keys still do not do anything, and when I slide it open the keyboard does not light up or respond. Also, I get both the green light in the upper right and blue in the upper left.
Another thing, when I slide the phone open and closed there's a slight ripple in the middle of the phone like something is 'pressing' on it from the back.
Sorry for the novel. Any help is appreciated. I'm considering 'clearing storage' and returning it to factory settings or flashing the ROM. I've taken it apart and put it together like four times now, checking, double checking and triple checking connections.
Thanks!
Sounds like one of the headers isnt fully seated in the display region. IIRC there are two that I had to deal with with my 10min LCD swap routine
Yeah, I think you're basically describing symptoms of having put the phone back together wrong except that it's interesting it responds in this 'Safe Mode' and interesting that it would happen after four retries
It's probably going to need a hard reset then! You might want to check nothing has been bent, warped mountings/plastic could be the cause of the screen ripple issue.
Were there any active components on the touch film for the display? (Assuming you have replaced that too with the LCD, or that they're one whole unit) if that is the case, they may be different, newer revisions? Really grasping at straws there though; at the end of the day, the poor phone has been mauled by a wheel... best of luck!!
Thanks for the thoughts! I guess I could try and break it down again. As far as I could tell, everything looked like the phone in the disassembly directions; nothing appeared unduly bent or mangled.
"Sounds like one of the headers isnt fully seated in the display region."
I'll google it, but what 'headers' are we talking about? The small metal bits that seem to touch the upper outside edge of the LCD screen?
Would an improperly seated header cause the other symptoms? Unresponsive other buttons (keyboard, front keys) and connectivity issues with the network?
"Were there any active components on the touch film for the display?"
I got a new LCD and digitizer (is that what you mean by other active components?).
Thanks again!!

Any cable that attaches to the circuit boards, re-seat every one you can find. One faulty connection can cause a lot of problems. I have a similar problem with a button on my PSP but im to lazy to fix it.
It have happened to me 3 times already, and I've only had my Diamond for 3 weeks...
When I leave my device charging over night, in the morning the display looks completely scrambled / distorted and the only thing I can do is a restart... Luckily it boots up normal again.
Am I the only one with this issue??
Btw... I've handled my phone with care & not ever dropped it or had it near any moisture, I guess this might be a harware issue!?
Dun worry owziee....
I having the same problem too.........
nothing but a white static/scrambled screen, right? Happens many time to me...the only thing i can do is re-insert the battery (holding the power button to restart doesnt work).
what about soft reset button ?
Sof reset fixes it. I think that the 3D chip is overheated, because it happens when I play sensory overload (a 3d game) too.
But strangely not when I play Call of Duty 2...?
Alteast we could get it back to normal with a soft-reset, kaiser had similar problem where only a hard-reset was possible after the same situations i guess..
Regards,
Carty..
i had a similar situation after i used my device to send a text, turned the screen off then turned it back on immediately, i had some strange screen with all different coloured pixels and it looked broke as hell, but i merely just pressed the power button on and off and it was fixed again :S
Yes i have the same problem and have no idea what is causing it. The most frustrating thing is when it happens my alarm does not go of... I would realy like a fix for this.
phew! It has happened once with me, and frankly it scared me a bit. Removed the battery and then it was Ok again. Weird behaviour. I don't think it has anything to do with heat tho.
I had the same issue too and I had to perform a soft reset fer it to work but after a week the touch screen of mine stopped workin no idea why i had to give to the service center fer repairs they told me it wud take a week to repair it rite now I am without a diamond
Something like the screen shots below?
I've had this problem for quite a while. If you disable Touchflo3d, you will not have this problem at all. This issue only concerns the 3d gpu.
I've since updated to v1.93 Olinex SPL and its more stable now, thou I still get it once a while, especially after a long period of not touching the phone (e.g. when sleeping).
My tilt is acting very nasty lately. Over the past few weeks, I noticed that when I turned on the display, occasionally I would get something that looked like the static that you see on TV, but with colors. I would just turn off the screen, and turn it back on to clear it.
Now it's gotten worst! 98% of the time, it intermitantly gives me a blank solid white screen when I turn it on. Occasionally I can just turn to screen off, and on to reset it.
I'm running OEM WM6.1, and I've tried to reinstall the OS, but it didn't help. My phone has taken a beating, and the top corner has had a small crack in it over the past 2 months, but it didn't effect the touch screen, or picture. I also took off the cover to make sure the cables were all snug, and it didn't help.
Any suggestions?
Something got corrupted. If you search WIKI, it's call the 3 color screen stuck .. and you're better off posting at thread below. I hope someone can give you help (if you follow those steps and still no good)
As rule of thumb, do a lot of reading first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=423486
On a second thought, it might be the LCD itself broken ..
Oh, believe me.. I'm not one to turn to the forums without doing research myself! All the research I was coming up with seemed to point to a slightly different WSOD though. I think you are right about the screen being broken. I've reinstalled the software, and it acts up even when booting up!
Unfortunately, I'm not impressed with ANYTHING on the market to date! If I'm unable to fix this, I'll just go back to a RAZR until the next gen WM7 phones come out. (With a tilt screen of course!!)
Oh, and even though the screen goes white, it's not stuck, as it fully boots up; I can hear sounds, and even activate the touch screen.
Also, I forgot to mention.. the first problem I started experiencing was that my tilt would go back from landscape mode! It was like the video board was crapping out. I could even see a slight flicker in the display from the refresh rate.
hi i think you may need a new Need a new flex cable ribbon as i had the same problem once
Thanks Tayzaa, I think you could be on to something. I'll open it up and take another look!
Hi!
is this problem solved?
WSOD is bug of Hermes. I would know if kaiser have the same WSOD-bug with D-pad?
It's been almost a week since my SGS got wet. The phone works not that bad, but it has a few issues. Anything I could solve by myself? I can't really find a trustworthy service around my area. Or at least maybe you could tell me what components might got corrupted.
The phone sometimes starts with green screen made by thousand pixels, then slowly changes into white and when I click the main button it's fine and I can enter my pin code.
The colors of the screen are a bit faded. Something like 256 colors. I can post a video if necessary.
When I want to enable the black screensaver it starts blinking from screensaver to blocked screen, 1-3 seconds every blink. Sometimes it's fine, but only sometimes. Also, I can post a video if necessary.
I can call and text only when the phone is set to only GSM mode and packed data is off. When in auto mode or packed data are on then it I can't call or text and ofcourse I can't use the internet without wifi.
When phone is turned off the battery drains very fast.
Thanks for any help in advance.
I seems your screen is damaged, you need to get that repaired.

just yesterday my SGS got in sink i dried it in rice for about 9 hours and now its completely functional. so maybe your water damage is bigger then mine. anyway you should go to service centre because your screen already damaged so unless you have one more amoled screen and know how to replace it. and other issues u have is because of hardware problems... Your shined way is to SC
Thank you for your replies.
The screen after more time works better, just that blinking still bothers.
One more question. That fast battery drain while the SGS is turned off and goes from 100% to 10% of battery in few hours - is it more likely to be a hardware issue or the battery itself?

Hi,
Last week I used to be outside with much rainy condition.
Though it never got totally under water, many times it's screen got wet with substantial rain drops.
Slowly, phone started misbehaving with following symptoms,
1. Around 10% of left side of touch screen doesn't show response. I enabled show touches from developer option and when I try to touch left side, say "a" letter in keyboard, it doesn't show touches and pointer jumps immediately to left edge.
2. Many times, I am not able to unlock phone as no touch are detected.
3. After unlock, many times though I am not touching phone, it shows couple of pointers (I enabled show touches in developer option to trace this) on left edge. It keeps moving resulting in erratic behavior, say screen zooms in and out, some icons clicked automatic, deleted automatic etc.
4. Sometimes I noticed that capacitive buttons are also not responding.
For all above, I have to off (not complete switch off)and on the phone. After few attempts, it becomes responding except point 1 above.
I have reflashed ROM (Vivikat) just to ensure it's not software issue.
Now it seems hardware issue with following two possibilities...
1. It's matter of some moisture in phone only. I have to try hard to dry out all moisture and phone will become responding.
2. Digitizer has some issue and may call for replacement (I don't want to do that...:crying.
Can you guys share your views/experience and advise?

I just had touch screen issues but not with water or rain. It was the CPU. Almost whenever I overclocked it, I had touch screen issues. Both misbehaving and not behaving at all. Change the CPU frequency and restart the phone and see what happens. :good:

Thanks for your reply.
I have never overclocked my device.
However, I tried to underclocked it if by any chance, it can solve the issue.
But issue still there.
A small portion of left column on touch screen seems not responding or giving erratic behavior.
Does, water can damage digitizer to that extent that can not be recovered even after drying
Or, I should keep hope and wait more before I go for digitizer replacement

If the digitizer is damaged, it is probably done. But if you can open the open, check the digitizer and see if there are any things stuck on it. My recommendation: ask an engineer to open it and clean it with the special spray they use to clean electronic parts. Maybe the water has had only a side effect and it will be fixed by cleaning the digitizer.
