Do you regret buying your phone?

I bought mine on May last year, and boy was it a mistake. I can't believe I bought ANOTHER Windows Mobile phone, while it is a dying OS...
Too bad I didn't wait for the HTC Desire...
So yeah, Microsoft screwed me with their crappy OS.

yup, i regret it. BUT I can't cry over spilled milk. i make the best of what i have and with enough tweaking and playing around with it, even a Topaz can be...half decent. my ONLY complaint? it's slightly slow. faster than stock roms...but slow in comparison to the nexus one or the desire. oh well, ill enjoy it for another year maybe and then try and get an Android device (Droid 3 then?)

Sometimes I regret getting the TD2 especially when entering Text Messages which is unbareable slow and the occassional unresponses to Powering-on.
BTW sent an e-mail last week to HTC about said problems and they came back with "Try a hard reset" - Not at all impressed by HTC.

how do you end up questioning yourself something like that?
do not want to be involved into an endless discussion but I could not help myself not to reply with my thoughts: why is willing anybody to throu on a forum ideas like a dying OS and comparing 2 completely different devices? if you look ofr a shoulder to cry, go out and play with the friends! if you look for some oppinions do not by the judge! to not throuw sentances in vain!
by the moment you plan to change your device the "desire" will be a brik, so your choice made one year ago can prove to be perfect!
for not being misunderstood, I am not in favor or against topaz but this thrad is not bringing anything good to the forum, but only in time, make the search or other maintenance of the forum working slow. posts as love my device also do not help! maybe a betetr idea, si to open a new thread named: why will you choose topaz and why not, and there place pertinent reasons for complaints!
personally, I will never buy a device significantly bigger than topaz! I had diamnond 1 and now, because of useless hardware buttons on that model and because of bigger resolution and available memory I moved to topaz (pure). I will always prefer the dying OS as you named instead of banging my had on the wall finding a reliable navi for Android (of course, depend on the date of posing and the maps you need). the rest, like slow response, I can live with it! I mostly use the device for remote desktop and few calls and messaging. browsing for market information or just info is aslo a must and working pretty well!

I only regret not buying the touch pro2, and besides the lack of keyboard, I'm pretty happy with it.

No regrets here. It will hold me over for some time until the next "latest and greatest" device is released. It does everything I need it to do.
Granted, if I was stuck on the stock ROM, I probbaly would be sorely disappointed.

I really like the device. It's sad, that Microsoft doesn't fill up the marketplace. They seem to wait for their 7. My girlfriend just bought a Desire and I think I will stay with HTC but change to Android. She already has a lot of apps I miss on my phone.
I will use the diamond another 12 month from now, so Microsoft has a chance to convince me of Windows Phone 7. Else Android is my alternative.

at firts i regreted i had bought a TD2 not waited 3months and bought a HD2, but then i just didn't care.
now i regret i bought 2x4gb microSD cards 1 for my htc 1 for my (nokia)n81, because now i fixed audio problems and i hate carrying 2 phones around all the time(1 for music,1 for gps and web surfing and a few cool apps).
so i'm guesing tomorrow i'll regret i tried to make a sorta RC/3.5mm connector out of my htc headset

the lousy build is definitely a neg point for me
i have sweaty palms and the paintwork is all ruined
still prefer the old original diamond
managed to keep it in pristine condition despite being a yr old
wm platform is really slow though; getting online etc...
got a iphone for web surfing and email purposes instead
the only reason i'm retaining a wmm phone is for the intelligent call function(that is extremely important due to work and call volume) not available on other mobile platforms; correct me if i'm wrong...

I got an HTC Pure as a "complimentary" upgrade from AT&T, after my Incite got bit by the Netfront "trialware" fiasco. I am quite pleased with the Pure. It's screen is fantastic. I had to laugh when my buddy handed my phone to his wife to play with and then said, "she had a bad experience with her first touch screen phone. It had one of 'those' resistive screens." I think the only thing I don't like is the lack of a standard (3.5) headphone jack. It's also hard because a lot of new software is being targeted for the HD2 with it's faster processor. The larger screen would also be nice, but it's not any better resolution, and it would be (slightly) less pocketable. So, all in all I'm pleased with my device, and am very leary of WM7.

I like my PURE, and (fingers crossed) have not had to Hard Reset since I got it. WimMo6.5 has been stable, device has been basically flawless. I replaced two Tilts with this device. I am back on "shipped" ROM, just work around bloatware and load everything on my microSD card. I was concerned about not having the slideout key board, but am doing just fine without it.

I dont like lack of 3,5mm jack, flash, poooooor battery life, sluggish operation, WinMo abnormalities, direct sunlight readability... (nice form factor, resolution, gps performance, good camera...but in my case barely usable device)
Regarding move to E52/E72

Of course you regret it. In a year the technoligy is better and the new devices are better to. But for me it was the best device on that moment.
Overhere in Holland you just don't buy a phone. You sign a contract for a year or two and usually you'll get the phone for free. Now these day you have to pay up to €100 cause the devices are getting more expensive like a iPhone.
So waiting is not a option or you will lose your phone number. Or worse you forget to stop your contract in time, the phone company will extend your contract for another year or two.

Good service from HTC, they respond in your own language and really trying to help you. Just say you've done a couple of hard resets, they will sort it out for you. They've also kicked Vodafone Holland for me so that I can update my weather at location again.
Stock ROM's are working well
Nice design of the device
XDA-forum that brings me a lot of new futures. Just think about S2U2, CHT, TD2 tools. And I'm not even talking about flashing to costum ROM's
Multi tasking but that's also the minus. Everything is running on the back. Use CleanRAM

My usb cable is crap, I can see the wires sticking out after 6 months of usage.

I hate my TD2 soooo much... Bought it on a 24 month contract in June last year, and within a month I was sick of the slowness and the plasticky design.
A few months later the camera stopped working completely and so HTC had to replace pretty much everything (as stated on the slip they provided).
Since then the digitizer has cracked on numerous occasions, with just a few minor impacts. I have been forced to buy and fit my own replacements since I have a good year left with this phone!
So, yes, I regret buying this handset more than any other I have ever owned.
As for Windows Mobile... What a crock of ****. A bare and dysfunctional 'app store', a slow and awkward interface and even with Sense over the top it still feels horrible.
I like HTC as a company, but the fact that within a few months they have discontinued and forgotten about your handset is not nice. If we could have got Android fully working on the TD2 it might have been bareable!
There is literally nothing about my TD2 which I like (battery life and soft keyboard are also rubbish); the initial selling points for me (design, screen, processor) have all been massively superceded.
Some of you may disagree with the points I've made, but the original post was asking for opinions and so these are mine!

I can use just about any ol' device for a phone. What I like about the Pure (and the two other WM devices I've owned) is that it's become a hobby of sorts. I like to flash it and rearrange it and play with different apps. At least until the recent court ruling that makes unlocking legal, I've always felt sorry for the poor folks who use an iPhone (my wife and daughter included) because they're just no fun. I feel like a slave to Steve Jobs when I pick one up. They're just so rigid and unlovable.
Oh, one thing I particularly like about WM is the ability to tether. I wouldn't own a phone that couldn't do that.

My Opinion
Imho, I think the topaz/pure was a great purchase for me. I ran out the day AT&T had them and got one because I was somewhat fed up with the tediousness of my raphael/fuze. Apart from a few minor issues, I think it's a great device... the 5 megapixel camera can be a halfways decent substitute to my normal cybershot when it has to, and the screen is indeed large and bright. The unfortunate part about it is that for the most part, you can't use it for serious video playing without downconverting almost anything you put on there. But that's what everyone's got their ipods for, right? XDXD

I don't regret getting it, and I am still satisfied with it, but if I was stuck with stock ROM, and did not re customize it from time to time, I am pretty sure that I would regret. It is wonderful phone and in my opinion the still best looking. That said I am switching soon to Desire.

I went thru a lot of HTC devices over the years and I did not regret a singly buy!
Of course after 1/2 year there are newer better faster devices out, but I was never disappointed by any HTC device I bought.
The only device I regret to buy was an Acer Dual Sim device that was cranky, slow, and did not work in Japan.

I dont regret getting any phone due to the research and testing before I buy them. One thing I can say is txting on resistive screens is painfull at best with my sausage fingers! saying that I had issues with my Hero aswell! the only one i didnt mind typing txt on was the iPhone!!

[Q] Should I trade my iPhone 4 for a Nexus One?

I've gotten a couple of offers on the marketplace thread. I just look at it as too big of a downgrade. What do you guys think? I love android and miss it, but I had a captivate and the gps and lack of support from samsung just killed it for me. I want an inspire 4g but I'm not sure when it comes out. Also, do you guys think I have a better shot at trading the iPhone for an inspire, or the n1 for an inspire? Thanks

I find myself wanting an iPhone 4 some days. The camera is, man, so so good. And nothing ever goes wrong with it. I don't need to worry about ROMs and Kernels and Radios to get great battery life, or reception. It's the small things in Android that upset me.
The iPhone 4 has tons of apps etc, you know what the iPhone 4 has and doesn't when compared to the Nexus. I think moving from Android to an iPhone, I would miss the widgets the most. I depend on the news widgets!
As for trading, I'd say your iPhone 4 will haul in more cash than the Nexus. It definitely will actually. The average price of a used nexy, assuming it's a t-mobile, is around $300-400 I think, depending on condition.
Depending on the GB of your iPhone, you could get up to $450. Just check the internet, ebay, craigslist, the marketplace here, to get an idea of the price you could sell it for!
I think more people are looking for iPhone 4s than Nexus Ones.

well the iPhone 4 is one sexy looking phone i agree. But I find myself wanna do more with my phone rather getting attached with the computer. iOS depends a lot on iTunes and I seriously hate using iTunes. iOS devices are so similar to each other that makes me think WHY do people keep buying the same thing when they have already gotten one? for example : WHen i have an iPhone, I don't think i need the iPod becuz it's just a downgrade for me. I don't think i wanna buy an iPad when i already got the iPhone either even though the iPad does have larger screen but to a bigger view, They're all the same. In my opinion, I'd rather have devices that don't look or operate as one another so i can find the usefulness of each device.

Ive had 4 Androids, I have an N1 and i4 right now, if I had to choose only one to keep, Id keep my iPhone4. Mainly because of all of the software bugs Ive experienced through all of my Androids, my Vibrant was the last straw, that phone was worthless, it made me hate Samsung, Android, and TMobile (yes I realize i4 is made of a ton of samsung parts). My i4 works everytime I want to use it, it doesnt randomly reboot, it doesnt send text messages to random contacts, it doesnt even have a "force close" option or anything like it. It doesnt freeze (you cant take out the battery, now thats confidence!!, Hell I had to pull the battery at least a few times per week on every Android Ive ever owned.
Main Pros for the N1 over the i4 are:
1.Larger screen (although not wider, so not a complete "Pro" for N1)
2.Adobe Flash (honestly I dont miss it, Skyfire browser is very accomodating)
3.Free tethering (this one's a biggie, more like a "hugie")
4.Customizations (root/desktop/widgets- I have missed some settings shortcuts but thats really it, ive rooted the g1 and N1 and messed with roms extensively and frankly, I dont miss it, its nice to just enjoy my phone),
5.Maybe I just dont know how to do this on my iphone, but the N1, and Android generally from what I know can use cell towers to determine location, and its pretty accurate, you can use the maps and most location based apps (for finding stores and such near you) without actually turning on GPS (iphone is a hassle because you must turn on GPS for anything using your location)
Main Pros for iPhone are:
1. Hi resolution; I had no idea how great this screen was until I owned it, I saw my friends' and thought it was nice but now I realize its incredible, it makes all Androids look fuzzy, its 960x640 while no Android is over 824(roughly)x480. I could never go back to 800x480 after enjoying this i4 screen
2. Its fast, not necessarily faster than the N1, but it never lags and it doesnt freeze, that consistency makes it more enjoyable in my opinion.
3. iTunes- Ive come to prefer buying these files from iTunes rather than downloading and putting on Android; ios and itunes is just very integrated which I found that I prefer
4. The keyboard is fu***ng awesome, the screen is slightly wider but it makes a big difference in portrait typing, along with the much better keyboard (invisible, predictive auto resize)
5. Apps, every app does something, they all work, even if they are kind of dumcb. They all look and feel integrated with ios
6. Battery, it charges faster and lasts longer
7. the copy/text and cursor placement is just a pleasure
Other:
I havent used the Android Market in over a year, theres just no point. I do download apps but only when I know exactly what I want. I never look through the Market, because not only is it not well organized, 99% of Android apps are either useless, worthless, broken, or malicious. The Android Market is beyond awful
One thing I found wonderful on my iPhone 4 was that it flawlessly synced my Google contacts along with my contact pics, and it synced and integrated my google and yahoo email accounts.
The biggest thing I miss is Google Maps/Navigation, it is an incredible resource. I would literally pay $200 to have Google Maps just like it is on Android, along with its frequent updates. I bought TomTom for $50 and its good but Google maps is better
The second biggest thing I miss is Google Voice to text, its phenomenally accurate and there is nothing on ios that is comparable to its ease and accuracy
I like my iPhone 4, It has fewer features, but I kind of enjoy not taking my phone out all the time

i've always used the mentality that the android is more for a techy and iphone for someone who doesnt really care and just wants a cool phone. I have a N1 and my friends have the iphone4. I find myself winning the battles of "can your phone do this...". I have 5 different Roms ready to be flashed on my SD Card, i go through them often depending on what version i feel like playing with. I am a developer so i make my own custom apps, and with app inventor made by google it makes it extremely easy for mere mortal to create apps now. Wow...
Personally i have never had these issues with my N1 about rebooting, kernels, roms, battery life... all of those things are extra and not necessary, but they are fun to mess with. I also agree the more people are looking for the iphone4. Its popular, android is fairly new still and people don't like taking chances typically. Why would someone pay a lot of money for a phone that is not the most popular phone...
I assure you though, either decision you make, you will not be disappointed. This many people can't be wrong about each device.

I'm Venting; Nothing to See Here

There will be no tl;dr here so if you're not into long rants this may not be the topic for you.
Smart phone manufacturers think we're raccoons. Or idiots. Possibly both. Idiotic raccoons for the purpose of this rant. I liked it when Apple was the only company that made premium but dumb phones. I liked that they only gave users 1GB to 2GB of RAM, because what were they going to use it up on? But now, EVERYONE is doing it. They take whatever level of affordable hardware they can get away with and then wrap it in aluminum/glass and send it out touting refinement of the brand. The only thing they "refined" was their ability to market things that shouldn't even be sold. These phones are supposed to be built by ENGINEERING teams and engineers are supposed to innovate and solve problems. And there are plenty of problems with the cell phone that need to be addressed. A few examples:
Texting and driving:
How is safety with these devices not at the top of the list for these companies? People cannot help themselves when it comes to looking at their phones. I did a quick survey of 10 cars coming onto my campus and 4 out of 10 were texting near a crosswalk. 40% as a sample of the population on my campus who would rather look at their phone than look out for people walking or riding their bikes. I guess barreling down the road at 60 mph doesn't give people the thrill it used to so now we're adding the thrill of driving with one hand busy and not looking. What an exciting time to be a pedestrian. For the love of all that is holy in this world use the GPS technology in the phone to detect speeds over 20mph and lock the screen until it stops. And if you need your GPS for directions you open the app before you move and it replaces your lockscreen blocking usage of the rest of the phone. And before someone jumps in here yelling, "government overreach!" cool your jets, there is a reason seatbelts are not an optional feature in your car. The CDC reports that 9 people, per day in the U.S., die because of distracted driving SOURCE: http://www.cdc.gov/motorvehiclesafety/distracted_driving/. I would bet that a few a of those deaths are people who aren't in the car at all, but walking somewhere and hit by someone who doesn't have the common courtesy to drive like their life, or other people's lives, depended on it.
Texting and walking:
If you do this you're probably going to be hit by the cars I mentioned above.
Thermal Throttling:
A genuine issue with modern smartphone processors. We are to the point where transistor traces are 14nm apart and yet our only method of heat dissipation is the wind. That's preposterous. Engineering majors are required to take thermodynamics and it's because heat is a real issue. But you're telling me that allowing heat to just be carried away passively is the best we can do in a several billion dollar industry? My laptop is 13mm thick and has an active fan when plugged in and a passive fan on battery power with 10 hour battery life pushing 1080P. Smartphone manufacturers just aren't doing it because it isn't sleek and sexy. And why do I think they should be cooled? This thing is supposed to replace every device in my living room and be near me 24 hours a day. Why is is that I get frame rate drops when I'm enjoying one of my favorite games? Oh yeah, it is because my processor decides that it gets too hot and stops running as fast as it was before. Oh, and that "advertised speed" you paid all that money for? Really only reaches its peak when you'e browsing the web or doing less intense activities. If any of our other serious electronics did that, we would throw them out. Your game consoles and desktop PC's run at full speed until they reach their thermal threshold and then shut off. They don't vary their speed in intensive tasks, they go hard until they can't go any further and they shut down. Hell if your microwave changed power settings while heating your dinner and you had to wait an extra 2 minutes to get your food you would have it replaced. In a world demanding more battery life, I demand better cooling and maintained top speeds for CPUs and GPUs while gaming.
Aesthetics:
While I never wanted an Apple phone I always respected that they decided to make an uncomplicated operating system, wrapped in a very professional package and served to the masses as "premium". What I don't understand is why innovation is being stymied in the name of "premium" feel? When people in this forum heard that the new Nexus 6P was going to have the Snapdragon 810 in it, they almost in unison said there was no way they would buy a phone with that processor. In fact, response was so bad that LG refused to put an 810 in any of their devices (bravo!). However, now that the 6P is out and it looks "premium" people are rescinding on their stance about how they won't buy one. It's like a phone being pretty is enough to forgive it for being partly broken on the inside. Now that I've written that, it seems like a deeper human issue, but back on topic we lamented as a community about how 2015 was the worst year for cell phones and that seems to be changing with those same people considering the 6P. And that isn't my only example. let's take the Galaxy Note 5/S6/6Edge+ (now with plus sign!) and pay attention to what they did in the marketing department. 3 phones, identical hardware, different cases. Identical hardware at astronomically more expensive prices because the screen is larger. But the processor in the S6, which came out early this year, is in a device that came out two months ago. How are consumers who have access to this information convinced that these devices are worth more of their money. Samsung just increased their profits because they didn't have to innovate, at all, and just pushed the same old board out with a high-end screen. Example 3!: LG G4 to the LG V10 is going to have the same processor as its predecessor. It is recycling hardware used within the same year by wrapping it in a different shell and calling it "premium." What makes me sad is that people are going to buy it. Probably thousands of people and probably some people who actually already have the G4. It boggles my mind that people see this happening and just jump on the train.
Software:
This is my last piece of rant and then I'm done. Being here I love Android; anyone that knows me knows that. I will defend it and what it stands for until it betrays me in the night and locks my sweet bootloader into oblivion while hiding its source code in the dark shadows of Google's labs. But let's get down to brass tacks: there is only one Android OS and that is pure Android on Nexus devices. If your manufacturer put their name somewhere inside your software you just landed at the mercy of not one, but two teams who decide if you can have access to an open source operating system update. How is it that people are just OK with buying phones that insist the consumer like what the manufacturer thinks is aesthetically pleasing? I thought the whole point of Android was to choose how your phone was supposed to behave yourself? Why is is that we bash Apple users for accepting whatever they are given whenever they can get it and we are stuck complaining about how Samsung/LG/HTC might never release their revisions of Android to our devices? Manufacturers paid for the hardware, they didn't pay a dime for the software other than what they pay their team to change it to their liking and then we are deprived of updates because it is too much work for the teams that they put in place themselves! How hard it is to just develop device trees and pass them to Google so that pure Android runs on everyone's devices? CM does it every new release and people who purchased software from for-profit manufacturers may never see Marshmallow. This is a real problem and I know that circumstances are different but Apple supports devices for an incredibly long time before dropping it from updates. The iPad 2 was released in 2011 and it is getting updates for iOS 9 the same time as everyone else. That is 4 years of support. And the Note 3/4 are one to two years old and almost two releases behind? Software updates should not be sold as a feature (especially not open source software), it is updated to protect consumers and their personal information from being compromised and misused through security patches and release fixes. And no, not everyone can ride the train forever, I get that. But a company dropping support because they didn't think their devices would last 5 years so they didn't hire the manpower to continue making releases sounds like a corporate issue, not a consumer issue. The only thing we can do is vote with our wallets. Oh, and case in point for updates for old devices: Google is dropping support for the Nexus 4 (2012) in Android 6.0 but maintaining security patch releases so people using that device are not left open to security vulnerabilities. If you needed a reason to support a manufacturer, it would be because they support you.
Rant over. I'm just tired of reading the same articles and comments on here, being disappointed by each subsequent phone release, let down by a huge lack of innovation by smartphone manufacturers, and let down by people who continue to be part of the trend and not fight it in some way. I'm also mad at people who text and drive--cut it out. If I had an answer to fix all of these things I would post them here, but I don't. There should be a way to change the status quo of the current hardware industry and push them to innovate as opposed to buying into their hardware subscriptions plans. Hopefully you know how much you pay a year to do all that Jump!ing and upgrading of those devices. We're tethered to a yearly fee and we just let it ride.
You don't have to leave your thoughts but I'm open to them. I'm open to your own personal rants about the topic. I'm open to ideas and solutions that haven't been presented and ways to fix things that we know are broken. This community is amazing for that because we have talented people here who aren't satisfied with the idea that what you get is what you are stuck with. They work hard and use their time to make something better. There has to be answers here and a way to fix the calamity that is the smart phone market. /rant

Nice rant. I am not developer but I am with you. Got a couple of rants my self. Me to brings apple as example to look at for tey updates and I would say reliability. Both of them matters to me because I don't root and tinker and I want my phone to work well an safe for a few a couple of years at least maybe 3-4 years. I know its xda dev page but the period I had iph6 in truly got to know what is reliable and consistent in respect. So if I pay £500 for a brand new phone I expect it to work accordingly or even £200 worth phone.
O am willing tonpay phone even more than I said but in return I want brilliance O was talking aboit just like buying iPhone.
I hate oersaturated screen tendency and in general pop out colour display trend but that come from my work because I retouch photos and work on calibrated monitor . first of all I prefer panelnto be natural then I can decide if I want it to be saturated or not. At least give that choose like sammy does , I think lg does but the screen still is from ideal. I envy those sharp panels that China OEMs mounting on the phones. Anyway nothing makes me more annoyed than temporarily trends. Give us an option to choose from!
Not much reading any review on here or articles looking at other tech websites it seems they simply making business out of t, yes they have to earn BUT don't take you reader for fool. It seems just because they have writing skills they can trick us into believe phone B is a an A class phone. Luckily many of us speak out fearlessly and with much furious and I liken a lot . there are people and a lot of them tech educated. Reviewers get easily tempted into era of electronic corruption and do what they asked to do. Trustworthy reviewer is the thing of the past-dinosour.

So if I pay £500 for a brand new phone I expect it to work accordingly or even £200 worth phone.
O am willing tonpay phone even more than I said but in return I want brilliance O was talking aboit just like buying iPhone.
I hate oersaturated screen tendency and in general pop out colour display trend but that come from my work because I retouch photos and work on calibrated monitor . first of all I prefer panelnto be natural then I can decide if I want it to be saturated or not. At least give that choose like sammy does , I think lg does but the screen still is from ideal. I envy those sharp panels that China OEMs mounting on the phones. Anyway nothing makes me more annoyed than temporarily trends. Give us an option to choose from!
Not much reading any review on here or articles looking at other tech websites it seems they simply making business out of t, yes they have to earn BUT don't take you reader for fool. It seems just because they have writing skills they can trick us into believe phone B is a an A class phone. Luckily many of us speak out fearlessly and with much furious and I liken a lot . there are people and a lot of them tech educated. Reviewers get easily tempted into era of electronic corruption and do what they asked to do. Trustworthy reviewer is the thing of the past-dinosour.

I think a lot of screen oversaturation stems from consumers responses to reviews and critic description of what the "perfect screen" is. Consumers will agree not based on personal opinion and then OEMs try to emulate the visuals that type of screen renders.
Or Samsung dictates everything since they are the majority seller of device screens.

Yes indeed. OEM's will push trends that appeal to the mass and mass wants and craves for an eye popping colour utterly unnatural and repelling to my eye.... and when they look at the same image on the computer monitor it suddenly lost all it it's magic and now they want to go back to their phone. My background is related to colour accurate calibrated monitor and this must be the reason I don't see amoled technology so appealing to me but again hundreds of millions of iphone users are perfectly satisfied and not only but happy.
If we take Android market we have bloggers, tech websites, youtube channels. media that are constantly praising that unnatural deviation in colour. Another myth is those magic amoled blacks! No they are not great they and in fact bad because there are no shadow gradient it's just a black blob while IPS panel can't have those perfect 0 pitch blacks but what it can do is gradient from the darkest shadow to the lighter shadow. Watch a film on your phone and pay attention to the dark scene you will know what I mean.
There were 2 ocassions in my life after going round and round in circles, chasing my perfect phone I heard hundred of times : oh this amoled screen is super, it has super accurate colours like never before and though I saw that super duper screen my self I could not help my self but to go again to shop and see if there was anything I missed in my judgment. All I wanted is to run basic mode on a S6 BUT whites on the basic mode looks dull and yellowish while in wider gammut mode it pops out like never before. I checked all the possible panels in the shop. S6 S6+ S6 edge S6 edge + . Yes I am purist and it is hard living for me. I think I am just wasting time in my life My point is your mind will most likely be brainwashed and you will buy perfect amoled screen.
Indeed Samsung will push anything that is related in visual agenda because everyone knows Samsung TV and they awesome. Easy to follow and trust trendy technology or product.
I am so happy Moto choose IPS panels this year because they look marvelous a little on the saturated side but nothing overblown like other OEM's.
I don't try to sell anything I said here to anyone if you prefer other panel that is your choice and I don't have a problem with it.

Battery life
While most manufactures claim weeks of operation the truth is often obscure and bent.

And I agree with all of it.
Some companies will deny overheating and shove their source code 50 miles deep into their butt.
Some devices are so pretty but have horrible hardware other are so ugly but have brilliant hardware.
I'm so sick of people just blindly buying devices that are a total joke.\

It's all pointless unless we have hardware that can drive a 50000000000000000000000K display where 90% of the pixels are so small they could never be seen.

Help needed - iPhone 6 Plus v OnePlus 3T

Hi all,
Im new to the forums and I'm after some serious information on the OnePlus 3 and Android in general.
I currently have a iPhone 6 Plus (128GB) and (in theory) could have upgraded to the iPhone 7/Plus as I buy my phones every two years outright.
I've been toying with the idea of getting the OnePlus 3T and passing my iPhone to the Mrs as she has an iPhone 5 (16GB). I really don't fancy forking out £819 to get the equivalent of my current iPhone when I could get a OP3T for £439 (128GB).
My options are keep my iPhone or get the OP3T and would like your opinion.
I'm sure someone on here could provide me with an idea of what Android is like as I've never used it before and what it's like switching from iOS.
I must admit that I'm more invested with Google than Apple. I do have an iPad and MacBook but I don't use iCloud and I'm not too bothered about iMessage and FaceTime as Whatsapp is what I tend to use and I use Google for most services (Gmail, Drive, Contacts, Calendars, Maps and Photos).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

For what you described imho oneplus 3t and iphone7 are overkill...
If you want a good stock-ish android experience you can go for op3t. It is not one of those phones where if you are not satisfied somebody will tell you "of course, as an android newbie you should have gone for smartphone xy".
For some reason that I can not grasp with my stupid little mind some people who switched from iOS to Android just don't like the UI and find it too complicated. While I don't understand how a simple menu can be complicated at all, I honestly know that feeling, since whenever I have to use a Macbook I have an irresistable urge to throw it against a wall and then to burn the house down.
What I am saying is, noone can tell you if you will like it.

i went from iphone 6s+ > nexus 6p > op3t

I just switched over from a 7plus. Its not difficult at all to get used to, you get all the same or almost all the same apps as in iOS. The layout for the menus is easy to get used to as well.

Well I have checked my iPhone and have used 101GB with 19GB remaining so I would like to a phone with 128GB ideally.

Why did you switch from a 7 Plus to the OP3T?
I'm intrigued to know.

Just suggestion.. U can try very low entry Android phone or other older stock Android phone like nexus series to taste the pure stock Android experience before u spend £430 .
One of my friend did that way. It helped. Now he is considering to buy OP3T

i have both phones (7+ and 3T), and considering your current status where you use more google services than apple, i think you will be just fine with 3T as long as you are okay to learn the way android do things. in my opinion 3T has better battery life, and could do much more if you want to tinker a little bit. However 7+ also has it's strong points, like front facing speaker, and camera. for amateur like me that just need a good camera at all kind of condition to take pictures of my kids, 7+ just did the job in auto mode.

I've never owned an iProduct, so you can take my words with a grain of salt. But, my experience so far with the 1+3T is all positive. If you do switch, just be sure to give yourself some time and patience to adjust. Honestly, if you stick around here, maybe you'll come to appreciate Android as much as we do.

I don't really have a concrete reason for switching.. Just had an itch to get this phone and once the 128gb one was available for ordering I just ordered it. After using this phone I am completely in love with it, the only thing I miss from the iPhone is iMessage.

I went to OP3T after 2 years with iphone 6 and 6s, I don't miss anything about those two phone because I mostly use google app and youtube. And OP3T gave me far better battery life than ip6 and ip6s, but in your case it's a little different as you have the plus. I was a diehard android user before, so it's easy for me to make decision. Now, Huawei p10 is in my radar except this OP3T hasn't aged yet

I think what is stopping me is that I have always had iPhone's from the 3G and I'm unsure of using another OS.
Also, I noticed on the SGS7 that my friend has that some games were laggy in comparison to my iPhone and that he said it's because of Touchwiz?
I did have a mess around briefly with his SGS7 but not long enough to draw a conclusion about Android as a whole but I didn't really care for that phone.

It will be better if u play around op3t before you buy, and see if games lag or something's you use work without lag or what.
I love this device, but hate iOS so that would be one sided thing.
So some of your friends might have one plus, you should get hands on one for a few hours.
Since everyone has different uses pattern and preference, at last everything comes to what you like or what you don't.

I'm from the UK and OnePlus is somewhat unknown to a lot of people (well, to most of my friends anyway). A lot of my friends have iPhone's too.
Getting hold of a OP3T is quite hard, I know they have them in O2 shops here but they aren't connected to the internet and I wouldn't be able to use it like it was my own.

Well you can find a lot of guys from UK here in the forum's with op3t.
Maybe now you have mentioned somebody might come to your rescue
And I heard in EU all purchases can be returned under certain amount of time.
Purchase one, use it, if don't like them return it.
And purchase through card, cause PayPal don't have buyer protection.

Mostly I can modify it to my likes.
Get bored of same UI for long.
That's one reason.
Other is for music, I keep it as I like with viper and other audio mods.
And moreover when I use iOS it feels like I lack many options android provides.
Like network settings, hotspots, downloading music, and getting to do backups locally, not on cloud or PC.

Same here!!! I love it.... I still have my iPhone 6s+ as a backup if I ever needed to get the OP 3t repaired. But I won't be going back to iOS even though the UI may look a little more pretty as some people would say

well to be honest i went 6p to the 6s+because i was in egypt with my lil brother who is a iphone freak for 2 months he taunted me, so i gave it a try, and after 6 months i wanted to destroy all things apple.
Apple customer service caters to the n00b customer base that they serve. I would literally pose questions to them that they had no answers to. on iOS you can't even arrange photos by date taken or large photos to small photos . once photos are out of order in ur albums there's no way to fix them even if the exif data is on point. bluetooth sucked on ios, it would take 2 mintues for the bluetooth to turn on, and hand offs from music to phone calls was horrendous up to 30 seconds.
It's an inferior product imo, it's made for people who aren't technically inclined, that's not really to say they are stupid but there's a reason the "____ for dummies" book line made millions

The reason I have always had an iPhone was because it always did what I wanted it to do.
People I know who have had Android in the past moved to iOS because they were fed up of their phones breaking for one reason or another.
Here, I can literally take my iPhone a few hundred yards from work into an Apple Store to be fixed if needed which is another bonus.
I take it that has all changed?

Both Android (scoped storage, forced encryption) and Samsung Flagships (no SD card slot, no 3.5mm jack with huge price tags) seem to think they are Apple.

I think I'll change to iPhone 14 Pro max when it comes out given the S22 Ultra is really a note

I switched for a bit but every time there is something that annoys me to the point that I end up coming back. Consistant phones that are good for basic stuff, but once you try to do anything they don't "allow" is it frustrating.

For the first time since the Samsung S7 Edge, when i switched away from my iPhone 6S+ i am seriously looking back at Apple.
Android 12 on my Exynos S21U has ruined it -- the battery life is way worse, the OS feels laggy and buggy -- having to reboot more often and some apps just plain drive me insane as despite doing a factory restore when i got the S21 in the first place they just don't work as they should.
Samsung OneUI is still too bloaty and their insistance of having Google app clones is ridiculous and i think would be better to abandon.
I just don't see a viable Android alternative anymore - MIUI12 is a buggy mess on Xioami. The whole OnePlus Android 12 upgrade debacle has been nightmare and my wife's 9Pro is average at best for taking pics.
Sony is lovely hardware but Android doesn't like their aspect ratio and i had several apps on my 1II that just wouldn't go close to full screen
Will want the Exynos 2200 to be at least everybit as good as a 8Gen1 if not better in which case i might continue my upgrade programme --- but if it's not then i'll probably look closely at iPhone 14 when it arrives

The Ultra is the first phone that Sparks joy in a long time.
I am the type to change phones often and find myself switching between Android and iPhone.
iPhone is nice if you have family and friends that use it and you're a US user. Their pretty stable and the integration withing the OS makes most day to day tasks seamless.
But over time I'd get bored with them and switch back to Android because I missed the customization (which can be done with iPhones now to an extent) and apps like YouTube Vanced.
Everyones use case is different but I always appreciate the freedom of Android. Sometimes a factory reset and undoing all your tweaks can give it a fresh feel again.
Won't judge you either way because truthfully it's hard to go wrong with both options.
If you already have the accessories and ecosystem IOS a home run.
But personally I won't be switching for a while. The S21 Ultra even in stock form has so many granular tweaks and it's so snappy I can't see a reason to switch.

I couldn't agree more with this and that is exactly how I feel. This is the first phone in a long time that ticks all the boxes for my usage case and that I am entirely happy with. I can't see myself switching anytime soon, which is not something I've really felt for ages now. This phone is perfect for me.

I'll switch to an iPhone in 2023.

While I don't have this level of experience with modern devices, I can say the s21 Ultra sparks joy too and has moved into a reliable partnership with me.
My whole family and 75% of my friends are on iphone. I hate iphones. Every time I have to help one of them with their phones I feel like I have to temporarily lower my intelligence to work it. I have to dumb myself down. And maybe there are more tweak options with them now, but I haven't spent the time to find them. I know this is an old argument, but I will never settle for the one button thing.
I make the time to tweak, hack, turbocharge, and sometimes burn & butcher every piece of hardware I own - from cars to computers to vintage receivers to vacuums. I love pushing hardware to the max and optimizing performance. Sticking someone like with this OCD obsession to an iphone is like putting them in a straightjacket.
Now that I can take comparable pictures I won't be having a pang of envy until I see something new & worthwhile from them. Oh yeah, and I hate the company as well.

I've tried both iPhones and Macs, and I couldn't conceive the notion of being stuck with something so walled off from what I can get from another option. You can praise all the merits and advantages of Apple software and hardware, but at the end of the day it's all about what you're willing to forego.

There is something very limiting with iPhones. I have an iPhone 11 as my other daily driver and I've always preferred using my S21U. The amount of ads on iPhone is so much, I get frustrated. I don't feel like I get as much ads on Samsung or Android for that matter.

If you haven't ever used an iPhone. i would recommend asking someone you may know that has maybe an extra one to test drive it. Pop in your sim and get ready to be disappointed . Android isn't perfect but when it's compared to an iPhone. It's like night and day.

That was so well articulated. I had a similar experience when I went from my Samsung Note 3 to the iPhone 6S. I was sick and tired of TouchWiz and just wanted to escape to iOS.
At first everything was nice, probably because I also got a MacBook Pro along with the phone. The device and software integration was a pleasant surprise. I actually liked the experience for about a year - it was a simple, uncomplicated life.
But over time I started to realise how limited I was in terms of what I was "allowed" to do on "my" device. Hated the absence of a proper file system on my phone. iTunes was a pain to use and I had to do mental gymnastics to accomplish the most basic tasks we take for granted on Android devices. After a year, I started absolutely detesting the way Apple did things. I couldn't understand how a company could push a software update that could result in the phone refusing to accept a 3rd party lightning charging cable that had been working perfectly for 6 months. The phone refused to even bloody CHARGE itself, forget file transfer! Unsupported accessory, it said! I remember I was driving somewhere interstate, in unfamiliar territory, and phone battery was low. I absolutely needed the navigation and connectivity, and i still remember the horror that the freaking phone wanted another cable just to accept charge. This happened right after a software update which apparently updated the MFI codebase for manufacturers participating in the program. Allegedly my cable manufacturer did not pay apple licensing fee - so no charging for me. Not for safety or performance reasons, just because apple could do stuff like that via software. Many such experiences over the next year made me realise I don't like this 'overlord' approach to devices, where the manufacturer still owns your device even after you pay full price for it.
I jumped to the OnePlus 6 the day it was available and realised how bad iOS had suffocated me intellectually over the past 2 years. And I also realised that my anger was over TouchWiz, not Android itself. For the first time in 2 years I could do everything on a phone that I could on a PC. That also made me realise how bad MacOS was if you wanted to tinker outside of apple made software and their approved usage. Over time, I just full time bootcamped to Windows 10 on the Mac and haven't even seen MacOS in 2 years. No doubt the hardware is top notch though -I still have the MacBook Pro running well after 7 years.
But an iPhone is not just an iPhone. It's a portal into apple's way of doing things. If you are okay with it, it's great. But if the word 'tinkerer' even remotely describes you, it's a bad choice.
At least that's my experience - YMMV.

No.
iPhone is janky, stiff, and makes it difficult to do basic things. The only thing that it has going for it is good hardware, (good screens, great cameras, and best speakers) but garbage software can spoil just about anything. Also, iOS doesn't even support fundamental protocols like RCS.

I feel like apple thinks I'm a baby that needs to be micromanaged in every way. When you see the lengths people are going to in order to have custom icons (shortcuts for every single app), or to add empty spaces on their homescreens, it is obvious even their own users want some basic customization and freedom.
