Guys, has anybody tried to take a Us. Celluar Moto X and run it on Verizon? I am contemplating doing such if its possible. I think the Us celluar bootloader is unlocked on the moto x but not sure. I am curious how hard it would be to do this. I have done this before on Samsung Galaxy s4 before, and it was a pain but, I am wondering if the Moto X will be much easier
Why is that?
What are you really trying to ask? Whether or not the boot loader (or possibly SIM) is locked has nothing to do with available updates
I'm just wondering why the Moto X has not been moved up to 4.4.2 while the Moto G has. I figured if they would move the Moto X up to 4.4.2.
I see the sprint version and the other carrier versions getting the update. Who will update the unlocked version of the Moto X?

I'm actually not sure how the unlocked GSM version gets its updates (I have VZW). I was under the impression it was through your carrier anyway, or by manually flashing after the fastboot files are released. In either case, the updates are starting to roll out, but are not yet available for US carriers
All of the updates come direct from Motorola - for all models of the Moto X and Moto G. The carriers simply "approve" of the firmware and give Motorola the ok to release it. The Dev/retail/tmobile edition (XT1053) which I assume you are referring to as the unlocked version requires no carrier approval but they likely test it with tmobile(and possibly other carriers) before releasing it.
4.4.2 for the US versions of the Moto X will be out very soon, it has been released for Canada and Brazil variations so far.
Ok, thanks for clearing that up.
Soak tests are already in play from what I hear, Verizon, T-Mobile, USC. Its comin

From what I read it might be because Moto G shipped with 4.4, so they got 1 update.. whereas we shipped with 4.2 and also got an update to 4.4.. so they started later.. not sure exactly.. but we should have it soon!
Plus there's more to update for the moto x and potentially more labor intensive as well since its a custom chip set essentially with the dual core krait 300 and the low power sensor processors. The moto g does not have the active display or the x8 system... But rather just a standard quad core qcom chip AMD LCD. Who knows how long Motorola was working on 4.4.2 for the g before it came out.

If you have the unlocked gsm from Motorola who will supply you with your update?
Motorola but they are doing the tmo soak test anyway. Its a great build though because you don't get stuck with a carrier logo on the left like some of the other 4.4.2 builds.

After calling Motorola I'm pretty sure we have to wait till the carrier okay's it. When I called Motorola they just sent me the same link I already had for the files, which only had what's current. I was on T-Mobile for about a week and after i changed my SIM back to AT&T my phone said i had an update....don't know why..I downloaded it but forgot i still had twrp instead of stock. It rebooted (after not installing) and when i checked my phone said up to date and still on 4.4...

I just received my update to 4.4.2. Still not sure who the update came from. I have the unlocked gsm version that came with the tmobile sim but I am on at&t.
The update is out for anyone with XT1053 now. You can even grab it here if you are rooted or otherwise unable to get OTA updates.

There wouldn't happen to be any AOSP roms for the dev X would there? I think I'm going to get an X but I'd really like AOSP
LOL. Moto x is already as pure as it gets almost. Just get one you can unlock boot loader on. So not at&t or Verizon ones. The Dev edition you want will give you more storage and keep your warranty after unlocking boot loader. Then root and get xposed and gravity box. You can customize and get all the custom rom features with those.
If you really want roms....there's only a few...but you lose the Moto x exclusive features.
If your a flashaholic.....don't get an x.

There's a few sound issues I think with most the custom roms tho. And again....no active notification or touchless control.

I'm not sure why you keep telling people they can't get an unlockable bootloader on at&t and Verizon. I have the Verizon Developed Edition, which I'm using on Verizon service on my Verizon account, and my bootloader is unlocked. Some people don't have a lot of choices on carrier due to service areas. But that doesn't mean they can't buy a developer edition.

He means to not get a moto maker Verizon or AT&T moto X, the boot loaders are locked, and can never be unlocked.
So if your on Verizon, get the developer version and live with the preset coloring.
Or if your with AT&T either get the developer version or get the T-Mobile moto maker version.

I did say that about the dev edition.
And you can't unlock bootloader on at&t.....or regular Verizon.
So?

Yes but your response to anyone on Verizon or at&t is that they shouldnt buy phones from Verizon or at&t because their bootloaders are locked. You don't mention the developer edition as an option at all for people who are trying to find the phone that best suits their needs. If they come posting about rooting or unlocking their bootloader, then perhaps a moto maker version isn't their number one priority, so explaining that, even on Verizon, they CAN buy a Developer Edition and unlock their bootloader would be more productive then telling them they should've bought a phone from a different carrier. Which by the way, if its not a DE, it will void their warranty to unlock it.

To the OP: With all that said; however, seriously the MX is as close as you can get to AOSP without getting a Nexus (which technically doesn't run pure AOSP either). I know dhacker was working on an AOSP build but it had some serious bugs. There's also an Eclipse AOSP ROM.
Those are your options that I know of, but you really only lose the features that makes the Moto X such a great device. There's no real bloat to speak of and the stock ROM is optimized for the X8 CPU and vice versa.
Pretty sure I've mentioned the dev edition in most of my posts. Anyway....aside from the dev edition....no, no one should buy an at&t or regular Verizon phone. Not if they have an account on xda anyway. LOL
Joe schmo....sure...get them...they're still great out of the box.
All that crap involved to root those phones is not worth the trouble..unless you have no other option. They may not even have a way to root down the road. And if someone already has one of them....sell it. And put the cash towards a DE or whatever that can be unlocked.
And...if I didn't mention the dev edition anytime I talked about this....bet you 5 bucks its cause the DE was already talked about by the OP or someone in the thread.

You did mention DE , maybe instead of trying to ream someone a new butt hole who tried to answer the op , you should instead ream the op to first search the threads prior to posted a question that's been covered about 50 times, also had he checked the development threads he would have found my thread with cm11, gummy and LQ roms

I don't think anyone reamed anyone's butthole (that's a different type of site altogether). I apologize if I mistook KJ's intentions. That was was just how his posts sounded to ME, and I wanted to make sure people understood DE's are a viable option for Verizon and at&t.
All in good nature I assure you.

Personally ....I think if someone (who is on xda anyway) doesn't already know about a dev edition ...for this phone...or any other...then yeah....they really need to learn a bit more about this stuff we do on xda. And best not be attempting any phone messing until they do.
Yup....I'm a HUGE believer in reading up and learning about this stuff. Posting anything on xda should automatically mean you searched (especially with Google) and tried to answer your own question.....only if you came up empty would you post. Its a shame that doesn't seem to happen near as much as it should.

You can try my debloat script, it won't get you AOSP, but at least it'll make the OS lighter.
Can I replace the screen of an AT&T Moto X with the screen from a US Cellular Moto X?
I bought a Moto X off craigslist with a crack in the glass. There's a US Cellular Moto X on sale for $75 on craigslist. Can I put that screen on my AT&T X? I assume I can but I'm wondering if there are any significant hardware changes that won't allow it to work.
There should be no reason why you can't. The only real difference between the Xs is the carrier mods. The hardware should be the same for every model.

Does it work?
Has anyone tried the Sunrise app (found @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792487) on their new Moto X 2014 (VZW or ATT) to attempt to unlock their bootloader?
Just curious, as your experience will influence my decision about which Moto X to buy for VZW network (i.e., Moto X VZW 2013, Moto X VZW 2013 Dev Edition, or Moto X VZW 2014).
Thanks in advance.
It won't work. I asked @jcase in that thread.
*Sunshine by the way.
