[Q] Server problems at Sony? - Xperia Z4/Z3+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought myself a new Xperia z3+ at christmas. Well... it was second hand but never used used, still new in the box but the seal was broken for inspection.
It works great!
I checked "Check for upgrades" but nothing, I have the *.251 firmware. When I click the link that leads to Sonys website I see that the latest FW for my region is *.266. Well... I connected it to Bridge For Mac and the app tells me "server problem". I connected it to a PC with PC Companion and I get the message that there is a problem connecting to the servers. This has been going on for 2 weeks. Do I have to worry?
I think that I got a firmware update at christmas when I got it... so I don´t think the phone has been tampered with. But how do I know that? Is there any way for me to check if the bootloader has been unlocked? Can that have anything to do with it or is this a real "server problem" in my region?
Once again... the phone, itself, works 100% great and I am very pleased with it.

I get the same message on pc companion for 4-5 months. Never buying Sony again.

@Manneman32
I don't think you need to worry too much about this issue. This issue has been around for a long time.
A Thread from the Sony Support Forum
The reason I say don't worry is because Sony has just recently started to roll out the *.266 firmware. I just recently received .266 OTA today and PC Companion finally recognizes my Z3+ as well as being able to connect to the update server (after PC Companion was updated too). You should receive the update eventually.
There is a way to check the bootloader's status but I find that to be vague because it tells you if the bootloader is unlockable and it feels like you're trying to decipher a puzzle. Just know that if your bootloader has been unlocked, your camera won't be able to focus at all. If you're interested in checking this vague bootloader status info, do this:
Dial *#*#7378423#*#*
Service info > Configuration
Look Under "Rooting status"

Thank you for the answer

[Q] calls over 3G - not stable

Hi,
I just bought my Xperia T in Romania.
Operator: Orange
The software version was 4.0.4 Central Europe.
When the phone is on 3G network , even if it shows full signal, the calls do not go through.
I have to wait few minutes or restart phone!
Sometimes is works, sometimes it does not.
Also who is calling me says that the my phone is disconnected.
This does not happen on 2G network.
What is the problem?
Operator related or should I take it to warranty?
I changed from HTC Desire and did not have this problem.
Also I tried the JB update and the same problem
Take it back to the shop, I never had that problem with any rom.
--
Enviado desde mi móvil.
damn it !
I was hoping that someone else had this problem and maybe related to radio version (used with my previous Desire).
But I see that there are no radio versions for Sony. Just baseband which I understand is embedded in ROM.
Oh well... two more weeks with my broken screen Desire till I will get this one back
So, after two frustrating weeks and sending the device to service and getting a response "defect not confirmed,
I went to the service explained them and FINALLY they understood
They replaced the motherboard in half hour and left happy from the service center.
BUT, as I was in the car discovered that there was no google apps, no way to input google account, etc. and the software version was the first one for LT30p.
As I did not want to go back I got home and hoped that a PC Companion update will solve the issue.
But surprise, it said that there is no update
So I installed the JB FTF and the 3G problems again
I also tried more Stock FTF and the same problem
So my question: might there be a problem that the FTF I have been using are for LT30a (which is for 4G)
Is this possible?
I even tried unlocking the bootloader and EMMA only shows .195
Any ideas because I don't want to get it back to the service.
I am starting to think that this might be a LT30p vs LT30a software.
Does anyone know how I could see what are the official firmwares for my phone?!
Is there a way to get my hand on a user/password for EMMA ?
Thanks
You are telling us that you are using a firmware which is designed for LT30a on a LT30p?
The baseband is different for sure.
You can flash JB version for LT30p with FlashTool.
Im using the same LT30p on orange ro and had no problems.
No
I was just wondering if maybe there is Sony issue because if i go to sony support website it only shows Xperia T (LT30a).
Maybe there is a problem with how I upgraded to JB.
Regards
I think I am seeing the same issue too now with my xperia V on JB stock.
Phone has connectivity but calls and sms are not getting through when it's on standby. It's fine immediately after I wake the phone up.

Xperia Z signal drops / unable to connect to network

Last week i got my Sony Xperia Z.
After unlocking the bootloader and stuff like that I used it for a week and in this week I encountered the following problem:
Sometimes the network signal dropped to 0% and after rebooting the Xperia Z it reconnected to the network and i could use it once more.
On Wednesday the problem got worse and I needed to reboot several times a day. On Friday the Xperia Z could not connect to any network any more.
So I tried the following:
- Put my SIM card in another telephone, it worked as a charm in the other phone
- Replacing my SIM card (got a new one) worked in the backup phone but not in the Xperia Z
- Tried to manually search for network it could find the networks but when i tried to connect to it. It failed.
Now it's being shipped to Sony for Repair or Replacement.
Anybody else encountered the same problem?
Same problem here, its randomly droping the network signal, sometime comes back sometimes need to reboot the phone dont know why it happens, and i have reboot problem phone reboots it self , i wish its all software related and get fixed with software update
Me too. I'm also facing the same issue. The only way to temporary resolve is by restarting the phone. Should i sent back to Sony? or wait for an update?
im also having this problem. Are all of these phones bootloader been unlocked and/or rooted? Any stock handsets doing this? I dont know if i should try sending it back or not because its been modded.

what network is your phone on? im getting a replacement tomorrow.
got mine yesterday. everything is great except the wifi signal >"<
it is so so weak. is there any ways to make it better
same place, but ip4, ip4s and arc get better wifi signal than z
Oo, got this problem yesterday, first time in 10 days. No root, locked bootloader, everything as it should be. After I finished call, signals was lost. I had to reboot phone, to have signal again. Simcard is new, it is old as phone is. Also I don't belive it is with simcard, since I tried to search network manual, before I rebooted my phone and XZ see every possible network, just it was not able to connect to it. Reboot helped.
I am also getting this issue, my phone is stock and rooted, using Telstra in Australia.
I'll change the SIM tomorrow, but judging by everyone else, it's not the SIM. Telstra has the best coverage in Australia (by a large margin), and the Xperia Z is a "blue tick" phone, which means in network testing, it had a significantly better antenna/coverage than most other phones. So it's not the network.
It appears there's an issue with the phone, then. Hope it's software.
Do we know if it's possible Stamina Mode might be killing it? I usually find my signal gone when I wake the phone, I haven't noticed it randomly just drop out when I'm using it.
This does not seem normal, I did not have this problem yet.
I do not think it has anything to do with unlocking or rooting as:
My Xperia Z is Simlock free, bootloader unlocked, rooted and running DooMLorD his kernel.
Kind regards, Stefan.

Its vodafone Turkey, i dont use stamina mode, try'd sim card with another phone its workin fine, almost try everything im waiting for the update i guess its baseband related update so maybe its also fix for our issue
im wondering if it has anything to do with the screen protectors placement?
im just backing up and returning to stock rom and getting a replacement.
Hey all,
I'm having this really annoying problem as well, and it's frustrating as there seems to be no rhyme or reason to it, and the only way to solve it is a restart (although once in a while it suddenly reconnects on its own)
I'm also on stock Jellybean.
I use to have this problem as well but it is all ok now after updating to the latest firmware.
Anyone sent their phone back to Sony have any updates? I'm still experiencing this problem at least once a day and it's pretty darn annoying
If I'm not mistaken, I stopped having these drops after the .434 update.
Still have to thoroughly test it, though.
same problem with my xperia z also .i have just purchaed it and within 2 days it sarts giving network problem.tomorrow i will go to service center and will update what they says
I made repair with Sony Bridge for mac and I had no problems with signal drop last 4 days (still on .350 firmware). After I first time posted here, I had like 3 or 4 times that, but as I said after repair it is gone. Hope on some other fixes within update to 434
Im having the same problems in canada, phone was brought over from hong kong, if I dont have any APN it works fine. once I add 3G and MMS configuration it starts dropping network 5 times a minute. really frustrating, so I bought ZL, seems better in North America. Sony told me its the hardware in Z that makes in incompatible, nothing to do with software or firmware.
Yes but once I updated to .434 Rom the problem was mostly fixed

[Q] "Unable to connect to the Internet."

I bought a Sony Xperia ZR a year ago, as soon as it was available for purchase. Other than this issue, it's functioning totally fine. I inserted an original Mirco-sim from my operator. ever since i bought it, it worked fine until suddenly problem with internet occurred.
However, any MMS messages just come up saying "Message not downloaded." Trying to use the browser or any apps that need data access results in connection errors, and Chrome reports "Unable to connect to the Internet."
I'm in the Cairo, Egypt and my operator is Mobinil, smartphone data subscription, and I've used various APN settings that I've found on the web to try and get the data to work, but I've had no luck.
I've taken it to the Mobinil store, the guy messed around for 20 minutes with the APN settings, but was unable to get it to work. so he told me that it shall only be a matter of software and i need to format it, i connected the phone with PC companion and did software repair and still have the same problem, Any help is hugely appreciated!
I guess it could be software thing. Repair the phone using Sony PC companion once n check if issue is resolved.

i repaired the phone twice using Sony PC companion but the problem still exists
I guess that he tried another sim card and also checked with the operator so the subscriptions are ok?

[Q] C6903 weird SIM / network error (with really bad timing)

Hi you all! Please help a girl in trouble!
Some time ago I flashed 3SE rom (1276-2189_14.5.A.0.242_R1D) on my phone because ..well.. the Nordic combined lollipop update took ages and I didn't wanna wait no longer.
The flashing went well and the phone worked properly. About one month ago the usb-cover came off so I sent it to get repaired.
Yesterday I finally got my phone back after three weeks and was such a happy girl. I flashed the customized NCB (1276-9897 14.5.A.0.270_R1D) to get rid of the 3-logo when booting. Then I moved all my photos n stuff on the phone... and first after this I inserted the SIM-card - only to notice that the phone does not work.
It won't connect to network. Says stuff like "invalid card", "emergency calls only". Everything else seems to be OK. I have tried a couple of SIM-cards that work in other phones, but nothing. The cards are not home cut, they are original micro sims. I took the sim lock off also, but it does not help.
I have tried flashing several roms, but still the same. I noticed that on some it get's some kind of signal strength, but on some roms it's just 0. I've flashed with flashtool and used also Sony PC Companion. But still the problem remains.
The IMEI can still be seen. On the phones package is the text SI 1276-2949.11 (FI, DA, IS, SV, NO). The phone is less than one year old.
Before everything got wrong the bootloader was unlocked. I checked with Flashtool to unlock bootloader and it showed the IMEI and redirected me to Sony's site, but I got a bit scared if some quarantee would get void. I don't remember the BLU redirecting me before to Sony's site if I have fiddled around with the phone and Flashtool..? The phone is unrooted and I would want to keep it that way. [Edit: it says "Rooting status: Bootloader unlock allowed: Yes"]
Now I am only very confused, and very stuck.
One thing that makes this crappier is that I am leaving tomorrow for my vacation, a trip that will last over one month... I really need my Xperia Z1 working and with me (and I really should be packing etc. instead of googleing and trying to figure out wtf I've done this time.... Unfortunately I really need that phone with me ).
Can somebody help, does anyone have any ideas?
And of course I have also tried the SIM cards with some paper behind them so that they would fit tighter.
If I try to put the APN manually it says that "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user".
I just tried once again to fix the phone with PC Companion, no luck.

Hello!
I can't find much to do but try to downgrade to a previous working version that was on your phone, and completely wipe everything (with stuff backed up of course) and see if the sim works, then update using PCC.
That's all I can think of, good luck and have a nice trip!

Hi and Thanks for the hints!
The 3-version of Lollipop worked earlier, but not anymore. Unfortunately I think it is the only version I can find from those that has worked on the phone earlier. Can't seem to find the original anywhere. I have had some backups of the phones and firmwares, but my computers got messed up, so I've lost some of the roms (and of course I have tons of other stooopid backups and their backups )
I'm trying to downgrade to some 14.3. global thingie right now, but my hopes aren't too high since I've done this already few times.
And thanks! I am sure that one busted phone can't mess up my vacation even if it makes it much complicated (water resistant, good camera, gps and battery etc.) But hey, what the heck, it's summer and I'm off duty

At least they are proper phones that actually DO work.
It's a shame I don't have any of those good ones left.
No other ideas whatsoever? Anybody? Mumbo jumbo voodoo? Rain dance?
Can you see your imei in the service menu?
Yes, the IMEI is there.
Got it fixed in another country in three days!
The service company I used first had broken some chip on the phone... Won't be using their "services" anymore.

Glad you got it fixed.
So it was a broken chip? Or did the chip get damaged when the first company tried to fix this issue?

Rooting status: Uknown

Hello xda's!
I unlocked the bootloader on my Sony Xperia z3+. It worked just fine, but after a sertain time (I think it was after I rebooted the phone first time after unlocking) it now says under "Service info->Configuration" the following:
Rooting status: Unknown
HW Config rev.: Unknown
Remote Lock State: Not Lockable
Security Configuration: Test
When I check status either using "Emma" (Sony's own flashtool) or Flashtool, they both indicate that the phones bootloader is locked. I tried running the same prosedure using the Sony Android SDK to unlock it "again", but the command return a fault indicating it has already been run succesfully once and of course can't do it again. I have tested the "Remote Lock State", and it works (unlike what the Service info. reports). I can't seem to find anyone that have similar problem. Suggestions for a solution?
How did you unlock your Z3+ bootloader in the 1st place? The official site (http://developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader/unlock-yourboot-loader/) does not even list the Z3+ as one of the supported devices for unlocking.
Found partly answers to my questions.
Before I unlocked the bootloader I forgot to deactivate the "My Xperia" (Xperia Theft Protection = MXTP). It is all explained at "developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader : After unlocking your device, you should not enable My Xperia (found in the settings menu under security on some devices running Android 5.0) as this might cause the device to malfunction". As mentioned, "My Xperia" was already active before I unlocked the bootloader. It was probably not the wisest thing of me not reading the instructions thoroughly anough. But at the same time can a serious company offer unlocking the bootloader and at the same time having one of their own proprietary programs causing the phone to malfunction? Then I think they should not offer that kind of service at all.
I was wrong when I said that I was able to remotely lock the phone in that satus. If u remove your google account on the phone under "accounts", you can just restart the phone after locked state shows up and the phone will work normaly. But, you will not be able to remove/deactivate the "My Experia" and the bootloader seems to be in a locked state (even if Flashtool reports it as unlocked in flashmode).

...the Z3+ is just not yet officially suported. If u trough the " developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader " site, choose for example the Z3 together with the IMEI code and u will be provided with a bootloader code.

Hello Rookie!
Sorry, no change in status. I guess we have 2 wait for the more experinced ones 2 come up with a solution, if there ever will be. Another downside to this is that the DRM keys are also lost. You will notice that on the cameras problem 2 autofocus, especially on close up objects. Apart from that, the phone is working just fine. "MyXperia" is not someting I will miss, apart from being that tiny safety.
you are lucky the device is still working

Hello DHGE!
Thx for the info. I'm not sure how they managed to brick their devices the way they did? Cause it seemed to me they did pretty much the same mistakes I did. My phone as resaulted more in the way that the MXTP is not working, lost DRM keys and an uknown status of the bootloader. Phone is working just fine, apart from that.

It's amazing that Sony is embracing the open devices meme but does such a bone-headed thing as to allow one of their own apps to permanently lock down a device if inadvertently activated. These Xperia's have really nice hardware design but they're a real challenge on the software side of things.
The first thing I did after rooting my device was to delete the MyXperia app from the phone thanks to the public reports from those unfortunate enough to have fallen victim to Sony's apparent obsession with locking down phones. Having owned only Samsung devices for the last 4 years or so, I complained bitterly about Knox. However, they're neophytes when stacked up against Sony's shenanigans.
I wish these manufacturers would get it. I don't give a sh1t about their software. I just want a device with cool design and decent hardware. I'll put my own software on it thank you very much. And the degree to which they lock it down is inversely proportional to the phones desirability to me as a customer.
Ha, rant over. Sorry for running off on a tangent.

The same problem does not yet have a solution?
Hello Seriousstas!
Most likely it will never be solved, according to Sonys respond to my question on this matter. You can send it in for repair, which means replacing the motherboard. That will be approx half/60% of the price of a new phone. Don't want to sound to negative, but for me there is no more Sony on the basis of:
1. Unlocking boot loader vs MXTP prob.
2. Unlocking boot loader and loss of DRM keys and the effect that has, especially on the camera.
3. Z3+ has the same rear glass probl. has the Z3, it breakes easily. This has happened to boths phones (Z3+) where I work, incl. my own. 1000 of ppl reported this on the Z3. Sony would not admit that this was a serious production error, which ended up in ppl having to pay for the repair them self. Of all the ppl I have talked to, that encounterd that problem say they will never buy Sony again.
4. There are always some annoying prod. errors with their phones, which at least I always think is either that they don't care about or that they are not checking the product thoroughly before it is released.
(5). Bloatware.
Sony phones usually come have really nice feauters, like good camera, IP67 certificated and nice design. But, as mentioned there are to many repeating draw backs. Sony has been asked a few times why their phone sale does not "take off" and that they are considering stopping the phone prod. I think a good deal of it comes from to many dissatisified customers that easly find comfort in other brands, and stay with them. Its hard to clear a bad reputation. Yes, I think they should stop selling phones.
I'm sorry for the offload here, and its questionable if some of my views belongs to this tread. I just say this so that you and others in same position should not have to high hopes solving the "main issue", cause there will be no help from Sony.
