Is there a way to tell if my Nexus 6 came from Google or not? I bought it used and was trying to figure out how to tell before I call them.

Well, since Google doesn't have a warehouse full of phones they sell... it didn't.
This Limited Warranty covers only a purchase of new Products from Motorola or an authorized reseller or distributor of Motorola Products and accompanied in-box by this written Limited Warranty. This Limited Warranty is personal to you and non-transferable.

It's not necessary for me to regurgitate the entire warranty to make my point, but as long as you're the original purchaser and the phone was purchased from Motorola or an authorized reseller (e.g. Google, Amazon, Best Buy, or a cellular carrier), you're covered by Motorola's warranty. If you purchase used, you have no warranty whatsoever. If the original purchaser gives you his or her proof of purchase that probably will not help much, as the original proof of purchase will have the original seller's name and address on it.
Another way is to try the MSL. The unlocked Google MSL is "00000" a carrier Nexus 6 will have an actual MSL.
Thanks for the info everyone!

I am looking at a nexus one on ebay, but the seller didn't state if it was the att or tmobile version. I sent him a message asking him which version and told him about tmobile version not being able to use att's 3g. He replied, "The ATT since it is compatible on both."
I guess I need to be more specific. Is there anything on the box that I could ask him that would identify which version it is? (it's brand new, still in box)
I would look for a different seller... if they have the phone brand new and still in the box, they should know whether it is ATT or T-Mo compatible. If they do not, that is a major red flag, to say the least.
I would gladly buy from Google, but I can only use paypal
By the way, which version do you think a guy from Pakistan would have?

Why would a guy from Pakistan be selling new Nexus One for less than Google? Especially when Google doesn't even sell directly to Pakistan?
Also, look at his rating... he has like 11 transactions.
Edit: I actually just reported the seller, since this is such an obvious scam. As well, looking at the pending sales, several have canceled the purchase because the seller never responded and so forth. It is very clear that this 1 month old member with suspicious history, and even more suspicious listing, is a fraud.
And why can you only use paypal? Do you have all your funds tied up in the PayPal account? You can transfer from a PayPal account to your bank account, for free... takes about 3 business days.

I was wondering why all the nexus ones on ebay are much more expensive. Then I found an acution that said something about taxes making the nexus one cost like $580 from google. Does google charge taxes for the nexus one for OHIO?
You'll pay around $35-40 in taxes for Ohio. Just go through the checkout process without actually completing the sale at the end and you'll see all the costs.

Yeah, in the US you'll pay a sales tax. I think it came out to $562 for me in IL ($33 Tax).
I paid 566.03 after my 7% sales tax.
I bought a HTC Hero off of eBay and the ESN number is registered to another Sprint account so they will not activate it.
Is there a way to change these numbers? I have a HTC Touch that I could take the number from so I can use the phone. Its a great looking phone but for some reason I cant use it on the network.
Any help in this situation would be great.
I'm not sure if this is true, but I read once that it is possible to change it on Sprint.com in your account page. If not, then ask the seller to clear the ESN on it.

I would suggest not buying stolen merchandise...
If you bought it off ebay, let the seller know he left it on his account and that he needs to have it removed.
If he doesn't do it, it was most likely found/stolen and you can just request a refund and complain to ebay/paypal about it
As far as changing the devices actual ESN... that would just be promoting theft of devices

It was purchased from a reputable seller from an estate sale of a business. They have a website with everything that they sell as well as a marketplace on Amazon. I'm 100% sure the item is not stolen.
This sucks though as I am without a phone until this issue is fixed.

Then you're going to have to contact the seller and let them know to get that ESN taken off Sprint.
I currently have Asurion insurance through Verizon for my Iphone 6 plus. What happens to the insurance once I put my nano sim from my Iphone 6 Plus to my Nexus 6? Will Verizon automatically remove the insurance, or will I have to call and cancel the insurance?
I currently have Ausrion on verizon also. Everytime I changed devices, the insurance just switched over by itself to the new device. I am hoping the same thing will happen with the Nexus 6. I would leave it on there for a month or two, by then Verizon will release the device, and you will be able to make a claim if needed, because Verizon will be carrying the device.

same here, insurance has always followed me no matter what phone I was using. I'm hoping I can keep asurion because they cover everything including lost or stolen.
The insurance will carry over to whatever phone you switch too. The only problem with the Nexus 6 is if you bought it from Motorola and put your sim in and it does not show up when you check your account, they may not replace it.

Hi 2swizzle,
Typically, the coverage covers the line. In the event that you experience a covered loss and file a claim, the phone would be replaced with a device similar to the one that is currently active on the account. Please let us know if you have any other questions, we'd be happy to help! Thanks!

It's our goal to get you reconnected as quickly as possible! While we strive to replace with like make and model, if that device is unavailable at the time that the claim is filed we may offer to send a comparable model.

hold on i thought the line was covered not the actually phone... verizon will allow us to use the nexus 6 on verizon but they dont sell the nexus 6 as of date. with that said its no reason for asurion not to have a nexus 6 because At&t, sprint, and tmobile all sell the nexus 6 in stores and theres only one model of the nexus 6, meaning any nexus 6(us version) will work on any network.
at&t does lock the sim slot for any nexus 6 they sell, but will unlock it as long as you fulfill your contractual agreement or buy the phone at retail cost.
While coverage does follow the line, you may want to check with Verizon just to insure that the correct type of Total Equipment Protection is active on your account. If the phone is authorized & supported on the Verizon network and you have insurance coverage, then we'd be happy to review your claim and help you get up and running again! In terms of inventory, similar to retail our inventory is constantly changing and varies per carrier. If the device is unavailable we may send a comparable model; we'd also be happy to look into your claim to see if there are any available options to get you back into your original device.

And what would be comparable to a Nexus 6? Comparable to me means the same specs, which no ther Verizon phone currently has and the fact that it is a Google nexus device.

So I just got a nexus 6 on Craigslist and it says Motorola confidential property: not for sale. I tried activating it on Verizon but all I get is voice calls because it is Sim locked to at&t. I tried to get the unlock code from them but they said the phone doesn't exist. Currently I'm waiting for a third party to get the code but I have a feeling they will fail. Any ideas?
I attached a photo with the m in the top corner so you know it's real.
i have yet to see a MCP phone unlocked. does not mean you cant, just haven't seen anyone able to yet.. Those MCP phones get out, but are not supposed too. maybe trade someone who's on att for theirs? IDK that sucks! sorry
If I don't get it unlocked do you think anyone here would want it for development purposes?
Sell it on swappa.com. There's a separate sub-section for AT&T versions of the Nexus 6. But full disclosure, so the buyer knows what they're getting.
I talked to a Motorola agent and this is what he said
Got a code from eBay and unlocked my att nexus. It cost like 8 bucks..Took about 18 hours to get code..Does each nexus have a different unlock code ? I got a code from att but never used it cause I had already used eBay code..

Let this be a lesson to you about buying crap from craigslist.
Next time, go to play store, motorola, or tmobile to buy it. All unlocked, and even come with a WARRANTY.
Could you flash a factory image to it to see if its able to do that at least?

Would flashing the firmware do anything for the Sim lock?

Lets look at your point from a different point of view;
IT COSTS LESS to buy the one INTENDED for him, then to be a cheapskate and end up buying multiple pieces of junk that don't work out.
You don't get rich by wasting money.
And finally;
NOBODY NEEDS a Nexus 6. If he's not rich, then maybe he should just buy a phone he can actually afford.
So buying second hand phones is a no no? Get a grip
You went to an ATT store to try to get an unlock, or by phone?
I say go by a store and see what the service techs there can do for you, while awaiting the code you paid for ...
As far as it being MCP, that has its ups and downs to me, the upside is that is's special, won't look like everyone elses.
The downside is that it may not be the same HW inside, which may hamper you in flashing the current image for it, or even future releases, but I'll allow for, and hope I'm incorrect there.
If you didn't, try a good store and talk to the service techs, not the sales reps.
Look on ebay for unlock code. Is imei starting from 0044 on it? If yes its prototype device.

Best way to do it is to have them meet you at your carrier store (Verizon in your case) and make sure it fully activates on your account, then and only them do you pay, that's what I do for any and all phone purchases. And yes, if it was purchase from Motorola or Google it's good for any carrier worldwide. But always just double check as to why they're selling because think about it, unlocked these phones are 6-700 bucks, and if someone is selling for a fraction of that I'd raise some eyebrows, but that's just me

Verizon may not activate it. Most people with play store or Motorola nexus 6's need to use an already activated Verizon nanosim. Not sure if this has changed since they started selling it, buy my phone from Motorola is still not recognized by Verizon.

The ONLY safe way to purchase a phone from a 3rd party, is to obtain the ORIGINAL PURCHASE RECEIPT, or documentation from the original vendor for it.
Basically, the problem is that a stolen device can work fine initially, but then *become reported stolen* and stop working later on. Like for a car, you need evidence of ownership so that you can hold someone accountable for it if it does become blacklisted.
Frankly, the effort is more than its worth. Just pay the price and buy a new one from google.
Take a picture of ID and or plate #....
There is absolute no way on this planet that I would allow some random Joe take a picture of my ID.
Everyone should refuse, no questions asked.
Get an original receipt or take your chances.
Make sure it's completely wiped and that you're able to assign your google account on it.

You can check the IMEI here:
www.swappa.com/esn
You also need to find out if the phone was financed from Motorola. I would ask for a copy of the invoice - he can log on and print it out. If the seller balks at that or otherwise does not want give you his name/address, I would not purchase the phone from him. I would also ask for photo ID so that I could verify he was the buyer of the phone from Motorola and is entitled to sell it. Again, if he balks at that, he isn't legit.
There is no legitimate reason for anyone to want to be an anonymous seller when you are purchasing a phone that they could report as lost or stolen and get the IMEI blacklisted.
Also, you will need an already activated nano SIM to get the phone active on your Verizon line. There are several threads on this.
