Accessing VR video content from Wireless Hard Drive Note 5 - Samsung Gear VR

I am trying to figure out a way to overcome the capacity issue on my Note5 using the Samsung VR headset and preferable Samsung VR/Milk so I retain all the control features. I've tried a Seagate wireless hard drive with some success with google cardboard but with a loss of features. When I try the Samsung VR setup I cannot get it to locate the wireless hard drive for content. Any ideas/suggestions either way (cardboard or my preference Samsung VR) would be appreciated.

Hello.
Just read the thread about: [Q] Watching 3D Movies on a network drive.
There is few ideas how to solve this problem.

Thanks for the heads up. So far no luck with a Seagate WiFi too laggy constantly loading and sound is screwed up. I read on another forum someone had good luck with the WD My Passport. I may give that a try.
I also should mention I got emby to work perfectly but had to use BubbleUPnP only would work. Here is the link: https://www.reddit.com/r/GearVR/comm...simple_server/

IR remote support for WD and soundfeaq boxes

I use a WD live TV Hub for my movies and a SoundFreaq stereo system for my music, they both have apps that work over either wifi or bluetooth but you can't turn them on/off with those apps and the commands process slower than molasses.
Are there any/what's your favorite IR app that are super customizeable? I'd be willing to spend an hour programming each function from their IR remotes individually but I can't find an app that will let me do that.
Right now I'm looking at "smart remote for htc one" but I can't find a single written positive review of it and the developer site seems out of date so I can't email them questions. If anyone has this app I'd love to ask you a few questions.
SenseTV has a learning option, so you can teach all the ir codes by hand. Other ir apps are in development, but none of them are stable today. So just use SenseTV for now or wait another one or two weeks until one of the devs release a stable alternative

Is it possible to make Sopcast (android app) work with Chromecast?

Hi,
I guess many of you know Sopcast. The official app has never been published on Google play. But it's available for download on their website and it works like a charm:
http://forum.easetuner.com/download/
Would be possible to modify the apk in order to add Chromecast support? If someone is able to do it, then I won't hesitate to get my Chromecast
Thanks in advance

I just downloaded Sopcast but I can't find anything in English. Any recommendations?
Sent from my GT-N5110 using Xparent Green Tapatalk 2
I guess that you mean that you can't find channels in English. The channels loaded by default might not be in English.
The nice thing of Sopcast is that every time there is an important sport event it's streamed via Sopcast, but the links to those events don't appear in the channel list but in some websites.
I will send you a link via PM because I guess I'm not allowed to post it here.

Is there an update on this? It would be great to have casting for sopcast, and I assume now that the SDK is out not too hard to implement.
However, right now Chromecast is mostly US and UK, so not sure if the developer is interested in going that route.
Let's submit a request to their website. The forum is down, but this might work http://sopcast.com/info/contact.html
I might be wrong but I think Sopcast is very unknown in US and not so popular in UK like in other European and Asian countries. So I wouldn't expect to have sopcast support for Chromecast anytime soon...
I tried to contact sopcast developers several times in regards to other issues related to their Android app and I never got a reply. I just know that sopcast developers are from China and it's not open source software.

I think Acestream is very similar to Sopcast and you can use the Chromecast with Bubbleupnp transcoding with Acestream. I have a video showing how to do it.

Sorry for the offtopic, but what do you use this app for? I downloaded it and I could barely get any of the stations. Just curious what you're using it for.

Most are using it to watch Sports that aren't broadcast locally.
The channels you find in the app itself are very limited, Most of the content available for this app is not listed there and found on the web which then launches the sopcast player to stream it.
chromecast doesn't support live streams format it need to be transcoded
even if you manage to cast chrome cast isn't able to play
the best way i found is this for acestrem which is something similar to sop cast
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W02V0Y_Bq0
Has anyone else tried this method. I can play on the computer but no luck getting it to the chromecast like it claims can be done.

Yes, I was able to get Sopcast to play on the Chromecast using VLC Transcoding but after transcoding, unfortunately the picture goes from crystal clear on the computer to low quality on the Television. I'm not sure if there is a better Stream Output String than the one I'm using that would transcode a clearer picture. Bubbleupnp transcoding seems a bit better but it always gives me a cannot find Mime-Type error. This is the VLC Stream Output String I am using.
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=VP80,vb=4000,scale=0,width=640,acodec=vorb,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:duplicate{dst=http{mux=webm,dst=:8080/stream},dst=display} :sout-all :sout-keep
VLC to Chromecast
Hi,
Can you explain how you cast from vlc to Chromecast?
Did you use the vidCast?
When I'm running your command line:

I get an error saying:

Dayframe has just added chromecast support in its premium version.
Is Tic Tac Toe first game for Chromecast? Is at least a proof of concept if simple. Would like to see card games use CC - personal cards show on each phone/tablet, playing field shows on CC.

Google asked them to pull the CCast support until the Google Services rollout has been completed.
I suspect the hold up on a second wave of CCast compatible Apps are related to that rollout being completed.
Dolphin Browser CC support apparently in the works, with Flash...

tinyCam Monitor
Features in development:
- Chromecast support.
- FTPS protocol support for encrypted FTP image uploading.
- In-app motion detection.
- Sensors support (e.g. temperature sensor, humidity, etc.)
Telecast CC support coming. Fairly decent access to global mass media streaming content...

Web Video caster (app), similar to vGet

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.instantbits.cast.webvideo
Like the title says, it's basically like vGet, allows you to play embedded videos in some websites. Compatibility is not as good but the app is free and will probably improve.
In order to get it working correctly i had to select the "cast icon" inside the app and THEN, try to play a video. There's a small search like button to search for embedded video, if it doesn't start playing immediately. You should also try to select full screen mode, if the embedded video allows it.
Seems to work well, I like it.
Doesn't have the non-Chromecast features that vGet does, but if you don't want those, this just seems to work.
The disconnect doesn't work for me, but as you say, it's new.
Web link at the Play Store leads to the help page and you can contact the dev from there. That makes it all even easier.
I've chatted with the dev about the disconnect, he's using a Google library for that and will discuss with them.
That explains why this isn't the only app with the problem.
Nice guy, patient, and very responsive.
I've played with the app some more and I really like it.
If it's casting and you exit the app, it will recover where it was last, including the player timeline.

I think that the kindest way to describe Google is that genius comes at a price.
And yes, I sent the reply from that same account.
It's just the same old problem that MS now has...
At some point you just get too big to be able to handle proper support because there is no way to know who needs to get the report and even if you get it to a department who might know something about the problem, their stuff is good and some other arm of the company caused it and they have no clue who that is!
In this case, let's hope that they listen to the dev.
It's evidently not something that hits 100% of the time. My report was new to the dev here.
Anyway, I hope that Flash or flv containers get support at some point.
I rarely have a use for this sort of thing but would use it more if I could cast some of the news pages I come across and that's usually for wanting better sound.
Meanwhile, I keep my headset handy while I surf.
I did try an anime site that offered HD mp4 content (ad-supported, mainstream, not piracy, as a note to any passing mods) and it worked great. Some of the grandkids enjoy that, me too really, and the Netflix catalog is limited there. That site wants to open new tabs for videos and this app made it easy to keep track of where I was, tabs are supported.

It depends on which "THEY" the dev gets to talk to...Was it the CCast OS team that screwed up? Was the SDK maintenance team? or was it Google Services team that changed something to break the system? I bet none of those teams even live in the same city let alone talk to each other much.
And don't hold your breath waiting for Flash or FLV anytime soon.
Even Adobe is refusing to support it anymore...Until everyone gets onboard for HTML5 Specs flash is going to be left out in the cold especially as far as CCast is concerned. I'm not even sure it can be transcoded properly.

In addition to mp4 files, Kissanime has flv files wrapping H.264/AAC according to MX Player so for some of these I think it's a container issue rather than codecs. I suppose that the H.264 profiles could be different though.
Both of these are from the same site, the 480 one is flv, the second is an mp4 that casted.
Anyway, I don't expect flv support from anyone for all the reasons discussed. Just tossing out a wish.

Mirror all apps?
Generally, not. You can try mirror4cast but it doesn't work on all devices and from the video seems to lag heavily.
Google is working on Android device mirroring (the beta is available if you have a rooted Chromecast), but no guarantee it will be supported on a wide variety of devices - we'll have to wait and see.
Spotify, Dolphin Browser, Samsung Dongle
Only apps which specifically support Chromecast or can Share to a Chromecast-enabled app will work with Chromecast. Chromecast is not a replacement for a HDMI output.
Think of it more like a video output accessory that works for supported apps.
If you want to see everything from your device on your TV, one of the many wireless output dongles like Samsung AllCast Share, will work better for your purpose.
Chromecast is an autonomous device (so its output is not limited to the device's screen resolution, nor does it require another device to remain on, unless content is being sent from the other device).
See links in my signature for more info.
