It's been quite a learning curve getting my Sprint CDMA Galaxy Tab and attempting to load every Miui, CM7/CM9 I could find on XDA and Rootzwiki. I never fully tested my tablet before beginning the delve into the flashing world so I don't know if this is an issue with the tablet itself or caused by my endless flashing trials.
I simply am unable to save any settings or data. Everytime I boot up, no matter which ROM (Miui CM7/9), it is always factory reset. This is quite frustrating.
I'm back on stock from odining Sprint EF17 GB w/ original PIT file and this is still happening. Does anyone have any idea if this was self-incurred or if there is a partitioning bug of some sort that I have missed.
Much Thanks in advance!
So every time you turn on your Tab it loads and then reboots in a continuous loop? Do you see the Android OS unlock screen or the load process does not gets so far? Because if it does not then in my opinion the boot loader is incorrect for some reason. That is my opinion.
What you can do if you suspect that the PIT is incorrect, you read your PIT and save via Heimdall and compare it with somebody else who has the same Tab as you have.

Negative. This is not a continuous loop bug. It is a "unable to personalize" bug. I can install market/apps/data/contacts etc etc, but every single time I boot up. it's a Fresh Copy with no personalized settings.
sounds like permission issue? Is there a fix permission in recovery?

Yes I booted into CWM,fixed permissions, rebooted, put 2-3 icons on desktop, rebooted.
Nothing, it was back to factory default settings.
A permissions issue does make sense, but it didn't work and this is just mind boggling to me.

I've got the exact same problem... after reading forums for 14hrs seems like a galaxy tab thing not common at all with no real answers
Sprint SPH-P100
I'm sorry you have the same problem.
However I'm glad to have someone to share it with. Misery loves company. I've scoured the web for 3 days and have nothing.
Please if anybody knows what's going on. From my non-developer logic I need to find a way to get the changes I make to my phone to write permanently (so to speak), everything I do is temporary until I reboot.
Hmmmm... I suppose you guy's already tried to wipe all caches and reflash the kernel (= not the ROM, just the kernel) ?
Where do I find the Kernal?
It's the zImage file right?
The ROM I'm on right now is JT's CM7 here:
I wanted to try just flashing the kernal but I am unable to locate the zImage file. What directory is it in?
Edit: I found the Kernal, it's actually in the CWM 5.0.2.7 package. I'm gonna try flashing the kernal over to see if it fixes the issue.
Edit2: No cigar, reflashing kernal does not fix this issue. On a side note, I tried to upgrade to CM9 and got "Encryption Unsuccessful". Not that I am knowledgable in this, but it seems the issue may share some commonality with that.

Hi,
Yah, zImage should be the kernel.
In this thread, I found something about the issue you have. It might have something to do with NoFrillsCPU... Hope this helps

Eh, I just went through all 37 pages of that thread. Couldn't find anything on NoFrillsCPU and didn't see any issues that resemble mine. Was that tthe right thread? I'll do a google for nofrillscpu and see if that brings up anything.

you read very fast then LOL
Anyway, my bad, it's not NoFrillsCPU but it's SetCPU ... It's in the OP : "Please DO NOT check the "Set on Boot" button in SetCPU untill you have tested it, or you may not be able to get control back without a reflash."
EDIT : Looks like there's a misunderstanding in me confused about the CDMA versions. Sounds like this thread has all the solutions you need. I may be wrong , of course...

I think you have my issue confused with another . My issue is that everytime I boot it's a clean boot with google account reset/desktop reset. I can't save any settings or download any apps without it getting wiped by a boot. I don't even think my ROM is currently overclocked but I'll look to see if indeed it's hiding in here somewhere.
Let me know if you see anything else that I can try :-(
Thanks though
Edit: Just checked, my system was not overcloccked and set on boot was not checked so this is definetely not the same issue.

Bump! Bump Bump.
Well, thanks to this forum my skills are improving but I'm still messing up regularly ...
After flashing a stock ROM of Gingerbread 2.3.6, I went about removing the bloatware. Now my Ace only knows one ringtone (manic beeping, seems to be called "60") and my only option is to silence it. Screenshot attached.
Does anyone know what I've deleted, but shouldn't have? I removed the native 'Music' app - that's not it, is it?

If only it were that simple! Ringtone files are still there - some .m4a tunes in sdcard/media/audio/ringtones/ and .ogg ones in system/media/audio/ringtones For some reason, it either isn't looking for ringtones or doesn't know where they are.

The fastest way to barebone any stock rom is flashing Stocklite rom, in my opinion, plus deleting more useless apps such as Gapps, default browser, twwallpapers, animated walls, useless widgets...

Just had a look at this thread re Stocklite - never heard of it before!
Now all I need is to rescue my phone from its bootloop - I've been re-flashing the poor thing all day, now it won't accept root and only completes boot every so often.
If network providers would ship ROMs without all the pointlessly duplicated (but branded) system apps, none of this would be needed would it??!
<finishes rant, embarks on fourth emergency reset of the day, takes deep breath, drinks vodka>
Thank you for your patience

well... to avoid the bootloop do wipe factory reset and cache via stock recovery after flash a fresh stock rom and about root... Root+CWM 5.0.2.6. FIXED
Sorry to say, I haven't found the ringtone culprit.
Following your advice, Viper, I've re-flashed the stock ROM then CM4 followed by CM5, then Stocklite! It was a trial but I got there :victory:
I'm going to take out a bunch of apps, but keep making CM backups as I go - can't face another day like today!
Thanks for the recommendation, I like this ROM.
I found the missing ringtone culprit!
It's Media Storage 2.3.6 (PLAYLISTS). Without it, the phone sets all ringtones to Silent, with no other options.
I ended up having to wipe & redo everything, as simply copying the file back to my devices didn't work. I'm still re-installing the first device I buggered up (phone), so if anyone can tell me how to get it working on an existing setup in time for the tablet, I'll appreciate it!
For weeks i have been trying to solve the not working WIFI problem i have been having. I searched around a found a solution an just sharing it here and hoping that it will be easier to find and figure out cz i went through alot to find it.
First you will have to root your device by following this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227938
Next download and install Root Explorer from here http://www.appsapk.com/root-explorer/
Download the Wifi fix file here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2309737&d=1381197765
Put both Root Explorer and the Wifi Fix File on your memory card or phone memory.
Install Root Explorer and grant permissions when asked after opening it.
Copy the Wifi Fix File from wherever it is on the memory card or phone memory and browse to directory (still using Root Explorer) and search for persists folder.
Paste the Wifi Fix File there
Restart phone.
If after restarting the wifi still not working, use RSD and install stock firmware, However it should work.
Any questions, u can ask me, i will be glad to help.
I'm glad it is working now for you!

Thanks for replying bro... It seems experts are too busy to comment..
As I never faced a problem in rooting and installing new ROM's I didn't take a backup of stock ROM... (My biggest mistake)
If I install any of the available STOCK ROMs using SP tools, it bricks my phone...(it doesn't start) I followed advise for unbricking using SP tools and it worked to bring back my phone.... But now if I install any of the available ROMS, either FrontCam, SIM, WIFI etc doesn't work.... (only one of these services dont' work, if wifi works in a ROM SIM might not work... )
Thank you very much
I was fighting with it for HOURS.
The solution works perfectly by using the WCNSS file on the brazlian RAZR HD (running paranoid 4.4.x)
used terminal emulator and unix comands (chmod and chown) as explained in the previous post's and voilá!
Do I need to extract the zip? Or just put the zip there?

this entirely fixed it for me thank you again! - now, only questions i have, once restarted should we then rm the file ? or keep it in /persist folder? because it's still in there..... also, if format/factory or future custom roms, is this a permanent wifi fix? and lastly, what exactly caused this issue in the first place, and what does this file do exactly to resolve it?
thanks again!!
having this same issue on a Nexus 6 running CyanideL
Yes I know the title is a bit long, but there's no other way to say it.
After updating my rom to android revolution hd 84,I've encountered a small problem: I can't copy single files larger than 3-4MB to some of my root folders.
I discovered this when I tried to change my kernel and my phone restated. I thought it was incompatible but then it happened again when I tried to change my bootanimation.
Basically whenever I try to copy a single file larger than 3-4MB to some of my root folders, my phone auto-deletes it and restarts.
And yes, I've unlocked my bootloader, rooted my phone and I have busybox.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention, I'm using X-Plore as a file manager, and all root folders have a little purple circle on their corner. I can do whatever I want normally in those folders. However, most folders have a red circle and coincidentally, those are the folders which restart my phone and delete all files over 3-4MB that are put into them.
Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

sounds like the kernal to me, you seem to have write protection, have you tried changing the permissions on the folder your trying to write files too or even try another kernal.
I tried a lot of different permissions, nothing works. And since it's got write protection, I CAN'T change the kernel.
EDIT: also, not sure if it matters, but when I updated my rom to a newer version, I didn't wipe the userdata partition, since it's the same rom, just a newer version.
I was thinking of maybe making another nandroid backup, reinstalling the rom AND wiping the userdata partition to try if it fixed anything, and if nothing is fixed, I'll just restore the backup to before I reinstalled the rom.

This shouldnt stop you from flashing another kernal in recovery, this only effects what you do when booted into the rom.
It's the same thing. Did you read my 1st post? I discovered this when trying to change my kernel, which I can only do through recovery. I use TWRP. I tried flashing a custom kernel and the phone just rebooted without any changes. Then later I tried flashing another bootanimation and the phone again rebooted with the default bootanimation. And it still does it when trying to manually change the bootanimation by replacing it with a file manager.
In conclusion, I get the same problem even in recovery.

Of course I read your first post, just didnt quite understand the restart part, thought you meant it restarted itself out of your rom, I would try what you said, rather than a dirty flash, try with a clean slate after backing up, there maybe parts of your old modifications to the system in the data partition.
Also, I'm not sure it can technically be called "write protection", since I can copy\delete\move, etc files just fine, but I can't copy files above 3MB. And due to that I can't change my bootanimation and kernel. As for the bootanmation, I also tried changing it manually and still the same thing happens - my phone reboots and deletes the file I copied. Needless to say, the same thing happens even when trying to flash it with TWRP.
Ok, reinstalling rom, will report back with results.
Edit 1 - install complete, rebooting....
Edit 2 - doing the setup thing at the 1st startup
Conclusion - Strangely enough, doing a clean flash of my rom fixed everything. Weird. Well, guess now I have a lot of things to set up again.
Well, thx for everything, even if I managed to fix everything by myself in the end. Though, I'd still much appreciate it if anyone could tell me what the problem was so I can be ready for any similar problems I might have in the future.

I never dirty flash, and the reason, your problems, even if im switching to a newer version of the same rom.
I just got my verizon turbo xt1254 and have it unlocked, rooted and xposed installed, on SU4TL-44, and just put all my apps and data on it, then stupidly flashed the higher volume mod from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-maxx/development/motomaxx-volume-mod-t3019203 onto my phone. Now my phone has no sound at all from any source through the speaker. Headphones still work. Is there a way to fix this? Preferably without wiping my data or having to reroot and install xposed and all again?
Restore from backup, it's better from stock rom. I had a similar problem with another mod, i personally recommend viper4android, thats a good mod for the turbo, but it must be on compatible mode (using computerfreak excellent ROM)
Unfortunately I was an idiot and didn't make a backup. Lesson learned I guess. Would I be able to flash the pre rooted system image from this post http://www.theandroidsoul.com/update-droid-turbo-to-android-5-1-1-with-mofo-root-retained-yes-its-possible-now-81652/ and then just reinstall xposed? Or would that wipe my data partition also?
Have you tried just dirty flashing your current ROM?

Dirty flashing is flashing the rom without wiping any cache or data. You should go ahead and make a backup in twrp now. Also install titanium backup and then make a backup of your apps and data. Copy. Both twrp and titanium backups to your pc so you can get back to them if need to. The twrp backup is not in the directory you might expect. I'd tell you but I don't remember off hand. If you search these forums it won't take you long to find.
After that you can flash a rom. The one you linked earlier was to get to 5.1 from 4.4 via mofo. If you want that one go to First Encounters thread. It will tell you what to download and how to flash it with twrp. You could also try Computerfreeks.
I don't know of a way to dirty flash what you are on, and guarantee that that you won't lose your apps/data. If you have your titanium backups it will be easier to restore. Still a pain but easier. You'll download titanium again, then restore your apps. That's better than downloading all of your apps again. If you haven't used titanium before, you need the pro version and should practice freezing, backing up and restoring before you flash any rom's.
To be honest, I'm not really THAT concerned with losing all my data. I still have it on my old droid maxx. I was just hoping for a way to fix my issue without losing it all if possible since I literally just out it all on there yesterday.

The mod that you flashed replaced /system/etc/mixer_paths.xml. You don't have to wipe anything to fix this. Unzip the mixer_paths.xml file that I've attached to this post and place it in a convenient location on your phone. Then use a root browser to copy this file to /system/etc on your phone (replacing the file that is currently at that location). Then set the permissions of this file to rw-r--r--. It should be good after a reboot.
I just tried that and I still have no sound, and now when I try to play a song in Google music or watch something on YouTube, I just get an error. And still no sound at all. Could I get the 2bd mixer paths file from you also by chance?

I'm running Computerfreek's mod of SU4TL-44, and there is no such file. However, there is a mixer_paths_i2s.xml file.
I had assumed that CF had not made any mods to this file, but that might be incorrect. I'll try to find the file from a stock SU4TL-44 image and that should fix the problem.
But like I said before, the only thing that the Moto Maxx volume mod that you flashed did was replace mixer_paths.xml, so you should not need any other files if that's all you've done.

Here's a flashable zip of the stock, unmodified mixer_paths.xml from SU4TL-44, courtesy of Computerfreek. Simply flash with TWRP.
Yeah I had apparently tried to fix it by replacing that file earlier with a different one, plus also tried to manually fix it too. I now have it fixed. I had the permissions wrong. Awesome! No problem. If you feel adventurous and want to go louder, you can increase the values of RX(1-7) Digital Volume and DEC(1-10) Volume. Be careful with that though. You can break your speakers if you go too high.
